REALLY.

All I want in a social network is to have a place to share events, ideas and information with my "real" friends. Also, to not have to worry about what the company who runs the network does with my information. I'm OK with a company using my info to target ads with information such as age, gender, marital status, hobbies. But, if they grab my friends info, or info from my status updates; I have a real problem with that. My info is obviously valuable, so why don't I have the right to have it used in a matter that I find valuable.

The real problems with social networks are the dumb people who post divisive thoughts. Or, the people who post about their "mafia's" and "farms". Do we REALLY care about peoples thoughts on the power of Christ, and/or prayer? Save it for church. Do we REALLY care about peoples thoughts about how awesome Sarah Pailin is. Aside from being a "MILF" what else is compelling about her? Here's a hint, not everybody agrees with your political beliefs. I REALLY don't care about your shitty virtual Mafia and how many gangsta's you mowed down. I REALLY don't care about how many virtual acres you cultivated for you prize pig. Now, if you want to share your thoughts about your real life mafia, then I'm down.

There are hundreds of sites where I could do any of the things that I listed above. The problem is that not enough people that I know really want to go to those sites and I don't want to put up with the garbage on the sites that they are on. Despite my own thoughts about myself, I don't think that many people really give a crap about what I'm doing or what my thoughts are. It's a shame. It's a shame that we don't care more about each others real lives. It's a shame that we don't feel like we can tell others that they are valuable. Why is is so hard to make real connections with the people that we want to share with?

ReclaimPrivacy.org | Facebook Privacy Scanner

Great tool for analyzing your security on facebook.

ReclaimPrivacy.org | Facebook Privacy Scanner

Unfortunately this tool doesn't address some fundamental issues I have with facebook. The process of deleting your account is a pain in the ass. Facebook doesn't provide an easy solution. I will delete my account on Friday, May 14th. Why? To put it simply, the juice is no longer worth the squeeze.

It's been a hard decision. I'm leaving behind some comedy gold from old posts. I'm leaving behind past conversations and experiences I've shared with my friends and family. I'm leaving behind renewed connections to people who I once knew. I'm leaving behind an important tool for expressing myself. These things that I value are being eclipsed by the constant changes that have been going on at facebook.

I value certain aspects of my privacy and I want to control what and who I share that information with. As time has gone by on facebook I control less and less of that. In turn they make more and more money from that information. I'm tired of being pounded by all of the requests for the latest crap farm game. I'm tired of knowing that every time one of my friends adds an application, my info is being given to the application publisher. I'm tired of reading about the boring, mundane, "my life is the best" posts by people who I really don't give a shit about. I'm especially tired of censoring myself for fear of offending certain people (even though they aren't afraid to voice their opinions). And really, at the end of the day, most of you guys really don't give a flying finger fuck about me or what I have to say.

I won't go on any further, but if your interested in reading about some privacy issues, read here.

http://calacanis.com/2010/05/12/the-big-game-zuckerberg-and-overplaying-your-hand/

http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/05/facebook-rogue/

http://gizmodo.com/5530178/top-ten-reasons-you-should-quit-facebook

http://gizmodo.com/5534736/more-reasons-you-should-still-quit-facebook

http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/05/things-you-need-know-about-facebook

http://mattmckeon.com/facebook-privacy/

If anyone is interested in staying connected with me there are numerous other social websites that I dwell in. The 6- x 6-meter device features an active walking area of 4.5- x 4.5-meters, and later this month, individuals anxious to prance through a virtual city will be able to strap on a head-mounted display, lace up their LA Lights and indulge in escapism. Aside from giving curious persons the ability to walk through a recreated version of ancient Pompeii, the device could also be used to meander through buildings not yet created or give firefighters a way to train without placing them in harm's way. Now, if only there was an option to dissolve into pixels and teleport to locales you find particularly intriguing, we'd be sold.

[via Engadget]

Xbox 360 Version Of Wii Remote In Development Since Summer | MTV News

MTV News has an apparent insider who claims that Microsoft is developing a motion controller for the Xbox 360. I don't think MS would blatantly copy something cheesy like these mii's. We'll have to wait and see. Whether it's "Pachter snubs pal Lohan in Viper Club debacle" or "EA could delay GTA IV's April 29 release" we tend to take notice. On the latest episode of Bonus Round, Pachter told host Geoff Keighley, "I think if EA takes over Take-Two, they have an economic incentive to delay [Grand Theft Auto IV]." What economic incentive might that be? Why, to hold the release until the far more lucrative fourth quarter. As for why Take-Two isn't simply doing that itself, the Pach explains, "Take-Two, financially, has to get that game out ... they need the money. They need to get it out."
That's all well and good but, you see, it's just that we've had April 29th circled on our Strauss Zelnick pinup calendar (in permanent marker no less) for over two months and, since Peter Moore really dropped the ball, we also went ahead and got that date tattooed on our far less impressive biceps. So, to recap, if EA manages to merge their giant family with Take-Two's impressive roster, your plans for May are shot and we're going to have a funny tattoo story to tell the grandkids.

[via joystiq]

Ubisofts Ghost Recon Page Covered With Burning File

When visiting Ubisofts Ghost Recon site visitors are presented with a burning file folder overlay. The thing is the code was printed on a sticker on the outside of the game. Better still it can be used by anyone who owns the game.

To unlock the gun go to the main menu of the game and do the following:

(Hold RB) Down, Down, Up, Up, X, B, X, B, Y, Up, Up, Y

This is almost as good as that free Comcast map.

[via Kotaku]

EA Charging For Bad Company Weapons?

Word from the Battlefield: Bad Company beta test is that several weapons in the game's arsenal are locked, with "Available for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace" notations next to them. In total 10 weapons are listed as for sale, with five of them also available in the Gold Edition of the game. What this basically means is that people willing to drop a little extra cash, be it in the store or on Xbox Live, will have more weapons to choose from than someone who scrapes together just enough to pick up the game itself. This is not the way microtransactions should be used. Cosmetic additions and extra maps are all well and good, but allowing players to pay in order to get a leg up on the competition is just slimy. Multiplayer games suffer from enough balance issues without this sort of thing going on. Where will this lead? Perhaps eventually they'll allow you to purchase a much better surrogate player to represent you in matches, taking the term "professional gaming" to an all new level. Maybe we can pay for ammo next! "Everybody down! He bought extra clips!" *sigh*

[via Kotaku]

Sadly, the only real way for us consumers to combat this practice is to vote with our wallets. By not purchasing the game and or not purchasing the microtransactions it could send a message to EA and Microsoft that we're not going to take it. Also these "Microtransactions" seem to me to not be so micro anymore. We'll have to wait and see if this is the case.

Battlefield: Bad Company Multiplayer Beta

Starting March 25th EA will open up Beta testing for Battlefield: Bad Company. To get in the Battlefield: Bad Company Beta click this Battlefield: Bad Company Beta Link. Obviously you'll need a Gold Account on Xbox Live and live in North America. See you there.

CoD4 Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack Dated and Priced

A new page over at xbox.com announced of the Call of Duty 4 variety map pack will be available for download Thursday, April 3 for 800 MS points.

The Variety Map Pack includes four new multiplayer maps. "Creek" is a
wide-open village ravaged by combat where concealment is the difference
between life and death. In "Broadcast," fight throughout an enemy
communications building with confined corridors and wide-open parking
lots. "Chinatown" is a foggy downtown district, lit only by a full moon
and the neon glow of the city. "Killhouse" features a desolate training
warehouse filled with a variety of building mock-ups and soft and hard
cover points.

These new maps can't come soon enough for me, I've pretty much had my fill of the current playlists.
