What does this mean?

Well, here are a few observations:

Bloom Energy receives so many state contracts that they may not need investment cash just yet.

Bloom Energy has continued to sign new contracts with large businesses.

On point two, lets look at recent Bloom Energy contracts.

First we have Cox Enterprises which just installed 5 new fuel cells at a San Diego location just this month.

Cox Enterprises’ alternative energy projects in California, include:

Four 100kW fuel cell units at KTVU-TV in Oakland

Two 400kW fuel cell units at Cox Communications in San Diego (Federal Boulevard facility)

Two 400kW fuel cell units at Cox Communications in Rancho Santa Margarita

One 100kW photovoltaic solar installation at Cox Communications in Rancho Santa Margarita

According to Senior VP at Cox Communications in California:

“It’s important for us to positively impact the communities we serve, and where our customers live,” said Dave Bialis, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Communications’ operations in California. “These newly installed fuel cells in San Diego will help us continue our efforts to be good environmental stewards, and hopefully, inspire other businesses to implement eco-friendly practices.”

At the end of last year NTT America deployed Bloom Energy Servers running on renewable biogas at San Jose Data Center.

NTT America’s initial deployment consists of five Bloom Energy Servers, with a total capacity of 500kW (kilowatts), or approximately the baseline required to power 500 average homes or five 30,000 square-foot office buildings.

NTT America will produce over 4.2 million kilowatt-hours annually, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.6 million pounds, the equivalent to planting approximately 4000 trees each year.

As part of NTT America’s energy efficiency initiatives, the fuel cell option reduces the dependency on the public electric grid, minimizing the company’s carbon footprint by using renewable fuels.

The fuel cells at the NTT America data center utilize renewable biogas, additionally reducing the carbon footprint through decreased dependency on fossil fuels.

Distributed generation means electricity is generated at the location where it is to be used, allowing NTT America to reduce the amount of energy loss due to transmission across power lines, increasing efficiency and trimming costs.

NTT America’s energy efficiency initiatives include hot aisle/cold aisle server rack design, aisle containment solutions, high efficiency computer room air conditioning (CRAC) cooling systems, distributed electricity generation and dynamic temperature sensor/control technology.

“As one of the major data center operators in the world, we recognize the importance of energy efficiency, and the need for distributed generation and use of clean fuels. Equally important is our enterprise customers’ interest in, and support of, energy efficiency both from the environmental and cost reduction avenues. As a key driver for the future of the data center, NTT America will continue to evaluate, support and deploy technologies that can be environmentally sound and cost effective for our customers,” said Kazuhiro Gomi, president and CEO of NTT America.

“NTT America, like Bloom Energy, understands the importance of a clean and reliable data center solution,” said Bill Thayer, Executive Vice President of Sales and Service. “We applaud their innovative approach to sustainability, and their commitment to delivering the best choice for their customers and the environment.”

Thank you all for voting but I encourage more of you to participate in the discussion in the comments section! Share your thoughts or great ideas!

Bloom Energy has raised over $500 million dollars in capital, as well as an untold amount in California subsidies. They have recently expanded their workforce by 1,000 employees and manufacturing space by over 200,000 square feet. So it looks like they’re doing good right?

Well, maybe not exactly. Not yet anyway. They don’t have that many customers. Sure, big names like Google and eBay. However, they likely do not have enough customers to foot the bills. To employ an extra 1,000 workers requires a lot of capital. Capital that they may still have a lot of, but once this dries up on operating expenses, where do you think they’re going to get it from?

An initial public offering. The Bloom Energy IPO we have all been waiting for. The IPO would allow for a huge influx of capital allowing Bloom to further expand and likely, from the publicity garnered from the announcement, many new customers.

What do you think? Do you have an opinion? Why don’t you take 30 seconds to participate in the poll below and leave a comment with your thoughts.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Bloom Energy has announced that it will be expanding it’s California manufacturing facility to a huge 210,000 square feet. This expansion has now provided over 1,000 new jobs to California residents.

This expansion means that in 2010 alone, Bloom’s workforce was expanded by 70%. Bloom Energy itself has expanded over 525% in only four years time!

“Bloom Energy was born in California, we manufacture in California and we continue to thrive and grow in our home state,” said KR Sridhar, the current CEO of Bloom Energy. “We’re grateful to be in a state that supports and encourages innovations like those from Bloom Energy to help address the state’s clean energy needs while giving California’s economy a healthy boost.”

“Bloom Energy’s decision to create clean tech jobs in Silicon Valley is more evidence that California is the epicenter of innovation and industry,” said Governor Jerry Brown. “Our state is at the forefront of the growing clean technology sector, which is creating the jobs of the 21st century, in California and across the nation.”

We’re all still anxiously awaiting Bloom Energy’s announcement to go public and you can bet that when they do, you’ll be one of the first to hear about it from the Bloom Box News Source.

Bloom Energy’s “Bloom Electrons” service provides financial flexibility to those of you who do not want to pay for an actual Bloom Box. Enjoy the benefits of the Bloom Box without any upfront payment. The Bloom Boxes’ Electrons is a “pay as you go” model where you lease a Bloom Box.

Customers of this new program can lease a 2MW installation for no money down, and pay only for the electrons that they use. However, a 10 year contract is required.

Do you have a business that could potentially benefit from this model? It’s probably still not the best option for individual home owners but this could change in the near future.

One thing is clear, Bloom Energy is coming out with more economical business models which will benefit us in both electrical costs and in any future investments with the company.

Bloom Energy operated in stealth for 8 years before going public with their technology on February 24th, 2010 at an event held in Silicon Valley. Could it take another 8 years for the Bloom Energy IPO?

It’s very possible that we may not see a Bloom Energy IPO for many years. K. R. Sridhar (CEO and Founder) has stated that he foresees the best application of this technology within about a decade. This means that the Bloom Energy IPO may not be seen until then, or possibly later. However, this is not a bad thing. As long as continual advances in the production of the fuel cells and Bloom Energy Servers continues, then initial investment in Bloom Energy should be much more safe.

Currently, a Bloom Energy Server (made up of fuel cells arranged into a “Bloom Box” configuration) that produces 100 kilowatts costs about $750,000 USD. Current customers of Bloom Energy Walmart and Google are using 400 kilowatt systems. Google can power an entire building on its campus with one of these 400 kilowatt systems. Whereas Walmart can power an entire store.

Energy costs to run the Bloom Energy Servers is about 3 to 5 cents cheaper per kilowatt hour than traditional on-the-grid power costs. These savings add up big time for these large companies and as production costs for these units decreases and the retail price of the Bloom Energy Bloom Box and Bloom Energy Servers decreases the average consumer should be able to get in on the savings. All of this means big success for Bloom Energy and big success for the Bloom Energy IPO.

We’ve been receiving many emails regarding the purchase of one of these units for a single family type situation or if it would be better to purchase another alternative energy product to help get off the grid. At the moment, a single purchase of a Bloom Box or small Bloom Energy Server for a regular home is not possible.

However, there are many options available for those of you who would like to get off the grid or at least lower your monthly electric bills by producing your own electricity in a clean and green fashion.

The biggest question that kept coming up was about building your own solar panels or how to get solar panels. Yes, you can actually create your own solar panels for relatively cheap. A great guide which has consistently proved helpful in this endeavor for countless people is this set of books and videos from Green Do-It-Yourself Energy on Solar Panel Systems. This guide was recommended to me by a colleague who does operate panels that he and his wife built himself in Arizona.

They’re not living off of the grid yet but I always like to think that if the power grid failed, he’ll still be sitting in his house running devices off of the batteries he’s charging with his solar panels.

Sound off below on your thoughts on the Bloom Energy IPO. Will we see one in the near future?

For the Bloom Box Energy Servers to become widely adopted and used, Bloom Energy must reduce the building and installation costs of the devices. A device that can be produced cheaply with little upkeep costs will generate a flurry of investors who will suck up any Bloom Energy Stock or IPO.

Currently, companies like Ebay and Google are testing and using the Bloom Box and Bloom Energy Server devices on site at their headquarters. The devices are beginning to pay themselves off and are producing more power by a lot as compared to the acres of solar panels that eBay has installed on their buildings. The initial devices cost Google and Ebay around $700,000 per Bloom Energy Server. Sridhar, the CEO of Bloom Energy wants to reduce the costs of these devices to $10,000.

If these powerful and game changing Bloom Energy Servers could be sold for $10,000 a device then get ready to jump on the initial Bloom Energy Stock offering or Bloom Energy IPO.

We’ll be watching for any information on Bloom Energy Stock and the Bloom Energy IPO. So subscribe or bookmark us and stay updated!
