Salads - They make your Day! Anytime of the day, always an innovation that go with any preparation. The summer heat takes its toll and its soothing refreshing drinks that call for our temptation to cool down the nerves. However, stuffing on food and the junk is always a high feel experience after gulping the over dose in the heat and adding water to quench the thirst - that makes it worse!

We need to guard over summer temptations. Educate ourself to healthy eating and what better way could be fruits and salads? Time to refresh our palate. Cold salads are delightful and savor our taste buds. Moreover, they have natural water content that hydrate us dropping the temperature of the human body. Chopped vegetables like the cabbage, carrot, lettuce greens, cucumber and tomatoes give the cooling effect with a nourishing bowl of diced fruits like the watermelon, blue berries, papaya, strawberries and the like. Added almonds and nuts with bits and pieces of jelly is so healthy and fresh that can go as a main course of dinner.

Much as we like to eat a variety of dishes, Salads with mint and lemon with pinch of salt and pepper are perfect for summer cool feel. Creamy dressing if you so like or tuck it between the bread slices and they become a healthy meal. No wonder, a great way to cook a healthy soup could be a broccoli or corn soup. Why, steam cook the broccoli and corn, carrot or beat. Mix with added pastas and it is cherishing dish. Dressings are best for the salads too.

Green salad, pasta salad, egg salad, fruit salad, potato salad - Try in variations and I've enjoyed eating in a varied recipe with ingredients to match my mood. It is fun. Count the calories if you are on diet. A dieter who is eating 1,300 to 1,500 calories per day might want a smaller salad, maybe 300 to 400 calories. Greens, vegetables, fruits, cheese (less proportion), nuts and Salad dressing - all calls for calorie counts. vitamins, antioxidants, phytochemicals and fiber and comes in at just under 400 calories. Vitamins, antioxidants, phytochemicals and fiber can make up for a calorie count. Change the ingredients to create completely different flavors, and you will find refreshing healthy salad meals.

More fruits and vegetables and that's the way to live healthy!

- -Blossomsmile ilaxi
*Editor, Net Newspaper for kids
www.kidsfreesouls.com
*Author of Guardian of Angels
*Content Writer - Official Gujarat Government Portal
www.gujaratindia.com
*Biz : www.swagatgroup.net
*Official Blogger (VA) - www.mjakbar.org

(This Health & Fitness Blog is based on personal thoughts and research work.

A year ago, I talked of Resolutions and here again, guarantee good health resolutions for me and many who still keep trace of my health blog.

2010 with almost a fortnight past, its never too late to decide and act. We can have all the best pleasures of Life and these little pleasures in life stand #10 in my list - to do, not to do :

1. A good night's sleep
2. A smile to someone or anyone
3. Chasing the blues and laughing away life
4. Free from net addiction esp. social networks
5. Catch up with old friends and aquaintances
6. Overpower intolerance and be friendly with let go attitude
7. Follow routines with more discipline
8. Follow diet health consciously
9. Read more books
10.Practise spirituality

Sometimes, it so happens that we set unrealistic goals. We tend to overdo things and end up messy. Net addiction is big alarm and so is unrealistic diet goal. Both are dangerous. The more we decide to wind up social networks, the more it attracts us. Especially when we are more into promotions. And, for unrealistic diet goals, shedding off excess calories is actually easy but to maintain a healthy diet is something we need to stick to. Obesity and weight are huge issues. We overeat that we like more and here is where we need to draw the line.

Nothing beats an exercise as a healthy diet require healthy exercise too which is must. I am an aerobic freak and its great for metabolism and cardiovascular exercise for the heart. Five times a week or twice a dancing session can make wonders.

Enough sleep is the most neglected and overlooked aspect for healthy resolution. I read a book 'Sleep less, live more' and it says 4 to 5 hours of sleep is enough. However, I believe 7 to 8 hours of sound sleep is good for healthy, refreshing day. A good night's sleep is life's greatest pleasure. Waking up refreshed is voted as life's geatest little pleasure' in one of the dailies and I do admit, sleeping is relaxing and leaving behind all the worries tucked in the soft bed.

Finally, Resolutions are to be made but healthy resolutions are to be kept and liven up if we want a healthy, wealthy and wise life. Of coz, wealthy life comes with wealthy health and so, we can work wonders with health that leads to better work and better work = better wealth. Often wealth comes with good luck too.

Enjoy and do keep in a random freak as I random pen down my health musings.

-Blossomsmile ilaxi
*Editor, Net Newspaper for kids
www.kidsfreesouls.com
*Author of Guardian of Angels
*Content Writer - Official Gujarat Government Portal
www.gujaratindia.com
*Biz : www.swagatgroup.net
*Official Blogger (VA) - www.mjakbar.org

(This Health & Fitness Blog is based on personal thoughts and research work.

Somewhere I read, Researchers have discovered that men who consumed ten servings of tomatoes a week can cut the risk of developing prostate cancer by 45 per cent, while seven servings of raw tomatoes a week lower the risk of developing rectal colon or stomach cancers by 60 per cent.

Well, I had a thought that men should preferably avoid Tomatoes, asparagus, lady fingers and the like in excess which had seeds in it as they can invite kidney stone problems.

And, for women Tomatoes is 'elixir for life' or call it 'fountain of youth' as tomatoes are rich in fibre and are low in calories and great for rejuvenation. It minimise ageing and keep the skin firm. They have two anti ageing free radicals - lycopene and beta carotene. The tomatoes which have brightes shades of red are the ones that have high amounts of beta carotene and lycopene.

Another thing I noted is, Tomato Lycopene may prevent Osteoporosis especially in adults and the aged. In a study in Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, a study researched on some 370 men and 576 women. Those who had higher lycopene intake had lower risk of both hip fracture and non-vertebral fracture, leading the researchers to believe that lycopene may be protective against fractures in this population of elderly Caucasian men and women.

Some of the Tomato facts reveal that cooked tomatoes are richer than raw ones and cooking tomatoes in olive oil allows body to absorb the lypcopene better. They are rich in potassium and contain niacin, vitamin B6, folate which are great for the heart. The beta carotene gets converted into Vitamin A once eaten and Vitamin A helps in the development of healthy skin, hair and aids vision and development of bones and teeth.

Well, now talking on Tomatoes take me back - down memory lane when I was kid and we use to grow Tomatoes in our backyard! And even the lady's finger, bitter gourd and chillies! Eating tomatoes raw or with salt and pepper or filled in between breads is just great treats. Soups or just salads and its relishing as we prepare various dishes that cannot go spicy without the add ons of tomato gravy.

Till I get more on blogging again back to routine here, get a look to my kids newspaper and maybe you like reading that as well. Enjoy.

-Blossomsmile ilaxi
*Editor, Net Newspaper for kids
www.kidsfreesouls.com
*Author of Guardian of Angels
*Biz : www.swagatgroup.net
*Official Blogger (VA) - www.mjakbar.org

(This Health & Fitness Blog is based on personal thoughts and research work. Working to fitness can be made a routine as you set the schedule and supplement your life with the techniques of Yoga - the Sudarshan Kriya (Art of Living healing breadth techniques) and Pranayama.

The main purpose of Meditation, pranayama and other related practises is that they increase 'prana' - you handle the breath and the body gains good health. The patterns of breadth reveal the toxins inn the body and when we are sick, our breadth is hot, quivery, shaky and not straight. Now, how many times do we breathe in a minute? Ever imagined? Breathing is the first important thing to survive. Since we start breathing till we stop, we breathe round the clock. Amazingly, we use only 30 percent of our lung capacity and we are not breathing enough. In one minute, we breathe nearly 16 to 17 times. If upset, it goes upto 20. If angry, more upwards. But, if calm and happy, the breathing is too normal to 10 times.

We get our energy from food, sleep and energy through breadth and exercise. However, the technique of Sudarshan kriya and pranayam with meditation are the best techniques for mind, body and soul.

Professionals do not need to do something overwhelmingly different but what one needs is to discipline the mind in an undisciplined lifestyle. How?

1. It's time to Move the body with brisk walk every day for at least 20 minutes. Up and down the corridor or in walking lanes or jogger parks.

2. Go for short breaks to stretch at the desk that stops you to be stiff muscled. Give space to yourself or just close your eyes for few minutes and take deep breadth.

3. Feel fresh - go out for fresh air and do not stay behind the doors. Mornings are ever fresh that can bring in sunshine to life too.

4. Don't be a junk eater as obesity can knock the door. Binge on low calorie snacks. Whole grain or fibre rich diet gives nutrition. Avoid cold and vending machine stuff.

5. Check on the EQ and SQ - Emotional Quotient and Spiritual Quotient. All time need of the hour.

6. Change Attitude - It counts. Be positive and possess spiritual outlook.

Above all, supplement life with all those 8 glasses of water and more. Whatever the researchers say, drinking water do take care of skin and stop dehydration especially in Summer. Daily vitamins are required and so, go for the right fruit and vegetable diets - Avoid pills instead eat 'Raw and Fresh fruits' (check my note on this in earlier post)

Change Life - the Power is within You!

-Blossomsmile ilaxi
*Editor, Net Newspaper for kids
www.kidsfreesouls.com
*Author of Guardian of Angels
*Biz : www.swagatgroup.net
*Official Blogger (VA) - www.mjakbar.org

Sources to surf:
Sri Sri Ravishankerji's website

(This Health & Fitness Blog is based on personal thoughts and research work.

Oranges and lemons, sold for a penny,
all the children are so many.
The grass is green and the rose is read,
remember..

Well, childhood days are always fun and memorable. But, here, I would be talking on the inflammatory disorder many children pick up as they wheeze, cough and are at short of breadth and get the chest stiffness.

Approx 20.5 million Americans currently have Asthma with many people with Asthma have an individual or family history of allergies, such as Hay Fever or eczema. These symptoms can be due to allergens - dust mites, pollens, molds, etc. Most people have wheezing attack or cough may be main symptom.

Some people believe there is no cure for asthma but I have seen cases, with proper management and medical treatment (ayuvedic), one can lead a normal life with no trace of the symptoms.

The symptoms vary from wheezing which usually begins suddenly, comes in episodes and may worse with cold air or cold drinks. It can be cough or shortness of breath that gets worse with exercise or any activity. The pulse gets rapid at times, bluish lips or face and sweating are some other symptoms.

It is important to diognise Asthma - it can be due to allergic and even a hay fever that sometimes has severity. The tests may be for Lung function, chest x ray. For children, parents need to observe the cause of the allergic/asthmatic effects that trigger the irritation.

For the treatment, Doctors are found to advice the patient to protect from allergic atmosphere - conditions that lead to the attacks. Mainly, Pollen and dust particles and smoke that when inhale cause the constriction of the airway which narrow the flow of breathing.

Even food is one major factor not to overlook. A lot of orange, lemon, ginger, honey are the remedy for the hay fever and that leading to asthma. I remember, when my childhood problems arose with the allergy, the early morning remedy of luke-warm water with lemon and honey soothe well which was to be taken for over 3-5 times per day. Apart from this, regular food with more of green vegetables, fresh juices and no yeast based or fermented food is allowed for such patients. Even beans and all that fall in this category was solely a No as this becomes too hard to digest for such patients. Especially the white flour (maida) and basically, the five white things are stricky no for such patients which are: milk and milk products, sugar, salt, white flour and such. A lot of fresh air and yoga too solve the problem to a greater extent. Regular sleep - Early to bed and early to rise is also another routine follow up for allergic/asthmatic patients.

Well, I hopefully plan to make my this Health Blog a Sunday Health Blogger and look forward to present on a regular basis. So, keep in tuned, Keep the Faith!

- -Blossomsmile ilaxi
*Editor, Net Newspaper for kids
www.kidsfreesouls.com
*Author of Guardian of Angels
*Biz : www.swagatgroup.net
*Official Blogger (VA) - www.mjakbar.org

(This Health & Fitness Blog is based on personal thoughts

and research work.

Remember schooling? We use do the chemical experiments during the science lessons and get to jot down the observations. Cooking food is always like these experiments and while cooking, due to heat, food create new substances. We need to know the reactions - from proteins reacting with carbohydrates. This eventually turns to Dead Food and we consume just the cooked delicacy with no nutrients.

However, everything is fine while eating in balance. The newest trend in eating is a raw food diet only - unprocessed foods eaten raw or uncooked. The cooked food tends to throw the toxins back whereas raw food doesn't produce these reactions as it contains functional 'live enzymes.' When raw food is chewed, the enzymes present aid in its digestion. It is observed that essential nutrients are destroyed on cooking and hence food must be consumed in their original form. Researches claim 75% raw food consumed will enhance overall well being.

Simple reason for Raw Food Nutrition is that they offer stamina, strength and longevity. Call it anti-ageing as it's high in antioxides. It knocks off the extra bulkiness and checks on the weighty issues. However, eating raw food has been found to have low body mass index and these raw food diet people are lean. This can cause bone health hazard like the osteoporosis as these diets are low in calcium. To balance this, fruits can be added to diet that contain calcium.

Each individual has it's own metabolism. Calcium, iron, protein and the calories need to be right balance with smaller amounts of cooked food too. Instant switching over to raw food for maximum benefits should be avoided as it is learnt that stomach infections are caused by raw food sometimes as they might not be washed well before consumption.

So, what should I suggest what Raw Food should one take?

Cabbage is the King for sure but than, you can have the vegetables like asparagus, brocoli, carrots, beet, celery, cucumber, lettuce, onions, garlic, radishes, spinach, tomato, etc. For the fruits, go in for apples, strawberries, oranges, kiwi, papaya, grapes, cherries, mangoes. And of coz, the sprouts - seeds, grains, legumes, nuts.

To sum up : Raw food has the Health Benefits:

1. Provide abundance of vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants
2. Have higher nutrient values than cooked food
3. Contain enzymes and this aid digestion
4. Contains bacteria and other micro organisms that help immune system
5. Lower risk of diabetes, cancer, heart diseases.

Children and pregnant women need calciums and even the old people who suffer from osteoporosis and anemia - For them, Raw Food comes in smaller portions with a balance of cooked food.

Try my recipe of Pumpkin for a change if you are on a Raw Diet. Here it goes:

Pumpkin Salad:

Ingredients: Take in equal proportions.

Grate the Pumpkin piece
Add sprouted moong
Add grated apple
Add carrots
Add tomotoes
Add little milk with little cream
Add a pinch of salt and pepper
Mix all together and place in fridge
Serve chilled.

Recently, I prepared this alongwith cooked food of traditional gujarati palate consisting of dal, rice, vegetables and chapati.

Sound tempting, isn't it?
