While the film makers set out to pay tribute to almost every teen comedy that preceded it, I feel that they met with limited success.

The premise of the movie is that for his valedictorian speech, Denis Cooverman decides to take the opportunity declare his love for Beth Cooper, the most popular girl in his year.

He also opts to unintentionally insult the class bully, Beth’s boyfriend and even to ‘out’ his long time best friend.

These revelations are the inciting incident for the film, causing Beth Cooper and her friends to attend Cooverman’s graduation party, followed by her psycho boyfriend who is out to teach him a lesson.

The movie then follows the adventures of Beth, her friends Cammy and Treece, Denis and his friend Rich as they avoid the angry boyfriend while trying to party on graduation day.

On the plus side, there is a nice underlying theme where graduation means completely different things to the two main characters.

For Denis it is the opportunity to put his miserable High School experiences behind him and move on to a brighter future in college.

For Beth, High School might well have been her peak, and while she was super popular and had a great time, her future is less optimistic.

During their time together they also get to learn more about each other and to see each other in a more realistic light.

On the down side, a number of the scenarios presented in the movie are kind of ludicrous, and we have to wonder why the teens don’t just call the police and have the offenders arrested for what are obviously criminal actions.

For me the ’suspension of reality’ just didn’t work at all.

While the movie features Hero star Hayden Panettiere in the role of Beth Cooper, rest of the cast is largely unknown and  includes Paul Rust, Jack T. Carpenter, Lauren London, Lauren Storm and Shawn Roberts.

We also see Cynthia Stevenson from Dead Like Me playing the role of Denis’ mother.

I was surprised to find that I Love You, Beth Cooper was directed by Chris Columbus, the man behind Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

I wasn’t surprised that the movie was panned by critics - it earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of only 14% and an IMDb score of 5/10.

I Love You, Beth Cooper didn’t do so well at the cinema either, reaching $14.8M at the US box office.

The Outrageous Alternate Ending feels to me like the original ending that came across as being a bit over the top.

In a lot of ways it feels like the ending that one might expect, and overall I think they made a good decision to change it.

There is also a selection of deleted scenes that wouldn’t have really added much to the story had they been included.

The essence of the story is discussed in I Love You, Larry Doyle through interviews with writer Larry Doyle and the cast of the movie.

The We Are All Different, But That’s a Good Thing featurette delves into the diversity of the cast and characters and their interactions.

The Peanut Butter Toast song is an improvised song performed by actor Paul Rust.

Fox Movie Channel Presents In Character segments are presented for actors Paul Rust and Hayden Panettiere.

For me, and I guess many of the critics and cinema going public, I Love You, Beth Cooper didn’t really work as the film makers intended.

While I did enjoy some of the underlying character interaction, overall the movie just didn’t work for me.

That said, I Love You, Beth Cooper is a decent Blu-ray release from Fox Home Entertainment.

Say Anything… is one of the iconic movies from the era - a very warm and original film with memorable characters, a great sound track, and the unforgettable image of Lloyd Dobler holding his boom box high above his head, playing the Peter Gabriel song In Your Eyes.

It is graduation time, and Lloyd Dobler has no plans other than to date the class brain Diane Court.

To the surprise of many, Diane agrees to attend the graduation party with Lloyd, and while she is a bit of a fish out of water there, she is glad she went and their relationship grows.

While he initially tolerates the relationship, Diane’s father doesn’t approve of Lloyd, whose aspirations don’t extend beyond dating Diane and kick boxing.

This, combined with legal problems for the Court family, comes between Lloyd and Diane, but Lloyd is not about to give up.

Say Anything… is a great little film that doesn’t really fit with the Hollywood formula and would probably have a lot of difficulty getting produced today.

However, the characters in the film still resonate with real people, who can relate to the strengths and flaws of Lloyd and Diane, as well as Lloyd’s friends and even Diane’s father.

Twenty years later the movie still has a strong following, evidenced by a great turn out of boom box carrying fans in New York celebrating the release of the 20th Anniversary DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

The movie features excellent performances from John Cusack and Ione Skye in the leading roles, and it is amazing to see a number of now accomplished actors ‘looking so young’ in this movie.

In addition to John Cusack and Ione Skye in the lead roles, the cast includes John Mahoney, Lili Taylor, Jeremy Piven, Eric Stoltz and Joan Cusack.

It is of course great to see the two Cusack’s working together.

Say Anything… was directed by Cameron Crowe, the man behind Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire and Vanilla Sky.

The critics loved the movie, giving it a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% and an IMDb score of 7.5/10.

Say Anything… earned $20.8M at the US box office back in the day, though has no doubt done great business on home video.

Synopsis:

The mammoths and sloths are back for a third movie, and this time around the mammoths are expecting and Sid takes charge over three eggs that turn out to be dinosaur eggs.

When the dinosaur Momma returns, she carries Sid and her young to an underground jungle populated by dinosaurs.

The ‘herd’ follows them in order to get Sid back and are aided by an insane, one-eyed weasel named Buckminster.

In addition to their quest to find Sid, the herd faces eminent danger from a giant albino Baryonyx named Rudy.

The returning cast includes Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Queen Latifah, with Simon Pegg taking the new role of Buckminster.

Overall I found it to be a fun movie and an improvement over the first sequel, though not up to the level of the original.

Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs was directed by Carlos Saldanha and Mike Thurmeier, who also worked on the first two Ice Age movies.

The movie earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 45%, though did better at the IMDb with a score of 7.2/10.

Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs was a huge success at the cinema, earning $196.1M at the US box office.

The video on the disc is an AVC 1080p encode at 35.5 Mbps, and is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1.

Some of the features are pretty standard, like the commentary and unfinished deleted scenes.

Others are a little more innovative - the Ice Age Storybook Maker is a BD-J application where you can create a story book from the images and phrases from the movie.

Evolution Expedition features a look at real fossils of the creatures from Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, hosted by Trevor Valle from the George C. Page Museum.

We get a behind the scenes look at the creation of an animated character in Buck… Easel to Weasel.

Unearthing the Lost World presents a interviews with the film makers covering the creation of the new creatures for the third movie in the series.

The disc includes the Walk with the Dinosaur Music Video performed by Queen Latifah

A number of short featurettes from the Fox Movie Channel are presented including interviews with voice talent John Leguizamo, Ray Romano and Queen Latifah.

The Scrat Pack features a pair of Scrat Shorts - Gone Nutty and No Time for Nuts.

In this new adventure, the Fairy Queen bestows upon Tinker Bell the honour of building the scepter for the Autumn Revelry.

Tink enlists the help of her friend Terence, and while things start out well, a rift develops between the two, prompting Tinker Bell to try to complete the scepter by herself.

When the precious moonstone is accidentally shattered, Tinker Bell sets off to find a magic mirror that is her only hope to restore the moonstone and save Pixie Hollow.

Through the story’s twists and turns we discover the true meaning of friendship and that you can’t succeed at everything without the help of others.

To be fair, this story is for the children - not a lot here the adults - though I am sure the young ones will be entertained.

The voice cast includes Mae Whitman and Jesse McCartney in the lead roles, with additional contributions from Anjelica Huston, Lucy Liu and Jane Horrocks.

Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure was directed by Klay Hall, who worked on animated the TV series King of the Hill and Father of the Pride.

The film has a middle of the road response from movie fans with an IMDb score of 5.6/10.

The video on the disc is an AVC 1080p encode at 32 Mbps, and is presented at 1.78:1 aspect ratio, filling the HDTV screen.

As with other Disney animated titles, the image quality is excellent.
