Fake Plastic Crowds You See In Movies

2012-08-19T00:47:00.001-07:00

There is a company called The Inflatable Crowd Company that was created for Seabiscuit back in 2002. Ever since then, companies have been using these, but you’d never know it. Each torso is dressed and wears a wig. In the movies, they look just like real people. You can learn more about this at Inflatable Crowd. I put pictures of these plastic crowds below from the movies American Gangster, Cinderella Man, We Are Marshall, The Changeling and Glory Road.

Top 5 Famous Ghosts

2012-08-17T13:42:00.002-07:00

5. The Brown Lady

This infamous ghost set the bench mark for ‘ghostly photographic evidence’ of the supernatural back in 1936. According to legend, this ghostly lady, who haunts Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England, is the spirit of Lady Townshend. The Lady of the manor was never allowed out of the house by her overbearing husband, Lord Charles Townshend in life, and so haunted the house in her death too.
4. Ghosts of the SS Watertown

Another famous photograph is the ‘proof’ that these nautical specters exist. The two ghosts in the picture are said to be two shipmates that were overcome by gas fumes whilst sailing toward the Panama Canal from New York City in December of 1924. Crew reported seeing the faces of their hapless shipmates in the water after they were buried at sea, and the Captain was quick to catch the phenomena on camera.
3. Abe Lincoln et al

Abraham Lincoln was renowned for his belief in the supernatural, so it was no surprise that his spirit appeared numerous times around the White House to prove his point. Residents and guests have reported knocks on doors, stomping down corridors and mooching round rooms. First ladies Abigail Adams and Dolley Madison, plus Andrew Jackson, David Burns and little Willie Lincoln are also reported to haunt the most famous house in America.
2. The Tombstone Ghosts

Tombstone, Arizona has been dubbed ‘The Town too Tough to Die’ due to its huge number of otherworldly residents. Such ghosts in this old mining town include the ones hanging around the Bird Cage Theatre, victims of the O.K Corral fights, such as Marshall Fred White, plus the various other cowboys and varmints – such as Virgil Earp – who were hung, shot, or deceased from disease in this historically violent town. 1. The Amityville Ghosts

In November 1974, Ronald DeFeo shot six members of his family dead at his home in Ocean Avenue, Amityville. In December the following year, the Lutz family moved in but left after just 28 days after reportedly being terrorized by banging noises, oozing green slime and sinister eyes peeking through the window. Their experiences inspired the novel ‘The Amityville Horrors’ and later, two films.

Top 5 Ways To Donate To Charities Without Spending Any Money

2012-08-15T10:43:00.000-07:00

5. Bio Power

Gifts from the heart… and the scalp…
When you give, you really give a part of yourself when you use your ‘Bio Power.’ You can donate blood, cut off your hair, or even shave your head for a cause. Visit America’s Blood Centers or the American Red Cross for more information about donating blood or platelets- you can also donate blood at most hospitals.
Got some hair to spare? Locks of Love “provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.”
4. Muscle Power

Participate in an event that gives your muscles a workout instead of your wallet. You can ride your bike either 50 or 100 miles in the Granite State Quest in New Hampshire this July or walk almost 40 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (events take place across the country from April to October and both men and women are welcome). Another option is volunteering your muscles to make a home for someone with Habitat for Humanity.
3. Business Power

Business owners: giving is also a great public relations strategy, and can even get your company free publicity. It can be as simple as making space at your business for a collection tin for your favorite charity or organizing a food bank or warm coat collection. One Warm Coat is an “easy and convenient way to help people in need in your community. Our goal is to provide any person in need with a warm coat, free of charge.” Sometimes there are tax incentives associated with giving, so check with your accountant. Successful charitable fund-raising has much in common with managing a business: It requires leadership, persistence, and creativity.
2. Purchase Power

Okay, you might be thinking Purchase Power? I thought you said this wasn’t going to cost me any money? By purchase power, I mean rethinking purchases you are going to make anyways (or have already made).

I resolved to stop accumulating and begin the infinitely more serious and difficult task of wise distribution. (Andrew Carnegie, Steel Magnate and Philanthropist)

For example, have you ever considered buying your favorite jackass a donkey for his birthday? You can buy him a real live donkey through Oxfam Unwrapped – a donkey that will go to a needy family in another country. According to their website, donkeys are a real ass-et. Or you can do your shopping through a site like Give Back America, where retailers like Target, BestBuy and Expedia pay a commission when purchases are made through the site- up to 7% of your purchase amount will be donated to a charity of your choice.

Some purchases earn you points in a reward program, which you can donate. You can donate your frequent flyer miles to a variety of charities, such as The Children’s Wish Foundation (Delta) or March of Dimes (Continental). Each airline is different, so check them out.

Or, if you personally have an occasion involving gifts coming up, perhaps it’s time to say ‘I’ve got enough stuff!’ and ask people to donate to a charity instead. You can put a cash box out at the party or ask guests to bring something to donate. For example, if your little girl loves babies but already has enough dollies to open her own store, she might be very excited about collecting gifts for Newborns In Need instead. If you have a sports fan in the family, use a special occasion to raise money for an organization that gives every kid an opportunity to participate in team sports.

For an unforgettable trip, consider spending your vacation money and time on a volunteer vacation: a rewarding way to truly connect with a different culture. You could build a house for local residents, teach English, or assist in a medial clinic. Volunteers on a volunteer vacation through the Earthwatch Institute work with scientists to solve environmental problems, while Cross Cultural Solutions offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities from playing with children at an orphan’s school in Russia to teaching basic computer skills at a women’s shelter in South Africa.

1. Hour Power

Brother, can you spare some time? It’s a valuable commodity these days. In fact, all of the 10 items on this list involve your willingness to donate some of your time. Here are some more:

Donation of your professional expertise is a powerful way to have an impact on others. After all, time is money – what’s your time worth? You might be a website designer, auto mechanic, lawyer, hairstylist, or landscaper- whatever you do, there’s quite likely a charity out there that can use your help or advice. Sites like VolunteerMatch allow you to search for volunteer opportunities by location and keywords so that you can find a volunteer position just right for you. Consider your hobbies as well: you can help out while doing something you enjoy. For example, if diving is your hobby, you can join a research team on a marine conservation expedition with Global Vision International.

If you have the time and the people skills, talk to your employer about getting the company involved in charity work. The key here is to make it easy for them to participate. It will help if the charity ties in to marketing goals or is particularly meaningful to the business owners (or the customers) in some way. You might offer to organize a charity event for your employer or to manage a corporate team. It won’t cost you a thing except your time, because you’ll be using their money. Genius!

Top 5 Of The World’s Longest

2012-08-14T15:16:00.001-07:00

5. World’s longest living marriage (87 years)

Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher, of North Carolina, have been married for 87 years as of May 13, 2011. Zelmyra is 103 years old and Herbert turned 106 on June 10th, 2011. They have shared the same home in the Brownsville community of New Bern for 50 years.
4. World’s longest serving bartender (77 years)

Angelo Cammarata is, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world’s longest-serving bartender. He’s been pouring for most of his 77 years at Cammarata’s Café, the West View watering hole. But now, the place he still helps his sons John and Frank run, has been sold, and the Cammaratas will be out of there within weeks, when the new owners are approved by the state. “Camm,” as people call him, started serving beer at his father’s North Side grocery the moment Prohibition ended, at midnight on April 7, 1933. The memory is as clear to him as the strike of the library clock that signaled it was time to start opening bottles of Fort Pitt. His immigrant father built a bar on that site in 1935, and Angelo kept working there, taking a break to serve in the Navy in World War II. In 1971 he sold the bar to his sons. In September 2009, the Café was sold and Camm, 95, decided it was time to retire.
3. World’s longest point in professional tennis (29 minutes)

This year, 2009, marks the 25th anniversary of a historic tennis match. At a Virginia Slims tournament in 1984, Vicki Nelson and Jean Hepner exchanged 643 shots. It remains the longest single rally in the history of professional tennis. The 6-hour-31-minute marathon was itself the longest match in tennis history for nearly 20 years and remains the longest match completed on a single day. The rally that put Nelson-Dunbar and Hepner in the record books came at set point for Hepner, who was ahead in the second-set tie breaker, which lasted 1:47 on its own. The 13-11 tiebreaker lasted 1 hour 47 minutes – the longest in the history of professional tennis – and had one point that lasted 29 minutes, with the ball crossing the net 643 times. Nelson finally won the game.
2. World’s longest speech (124 hours)

Frenchman Lluis Colet broke the world record for the longest speech after rambling nonstop for 124 hours about Spanish painter Salvador Dali, Catalan culture and other topics. The 62-year-old Catalan and local government worker spoke for five straight days and four nights to set the record in the southern French town of Perpignan. Three notaries were on hand to recognize the feat which allowed Colet to enter in the Guinness Book of Records. The previous record was held by an Indian man who delivered a 120-hour speech.
1. World’s longest burning lightbulb (110 years)

The world’s longest lightbulb, a low-watt firehouse bulb, has been burning continuously since 1901. Long after his retirement, ex-firefighter Tom Bramell still likes to visit Station No. 6 for old times’ sake, whistling in amazement at all the changes. But one thing remains exactly the same. The sturdy little object hangs from the ceiling in the firehouse’s engine bay, emitting its familiar faint orange glow. At 110 years and counting, the low-watt wonder with the curlicue carbon filament has been named the planet’s longest continuously burning bulb by both Guinness World Records and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not.
The Livermore lightbulb has never been turned off, which many suspect is the secret to its longevity. Livermore’s bulb has burned for nearly a million hours.

Top 10 Biggest Tools On Twitter

2012-08-14T11:48:00.002-07:00

Do you call yourself a social media expert? Use the word "tweeple"? Retweet everything Ashton says? If so, you might be one of the biggest tools on Twitter.
Twitter's full of colorful characters. From musing musicians to orbiting astronauts, the 140-character universe seems to have a place for everyone. And that includes total tools.
Twitter's biggest tools do plenty of irksome things. They stalk celebrities; they share information you wish you could unlearn. Some spend time on Twitter purely to talk about how you should spend time on Twitter (social media expert, anyone?). Whatever their tactic, though, they all share one common characteristic: They are unequivocally and unapologetically annoying.
Here's your guide to the 10 biggest tools on Twitter. If you see someone you recognize, by all means let them know. Just don't send out the link 20 times. That'd be a real tool-like thing to do.

1. The CelebriTool

A social media phenomenon exclusive to Twitter, the CelebriTool spends his days interacting with famous people -- if by "interacting with famous people," you mean "having one-sided dialogues with celebrities who aren't aware of his existence."
The CelebriTool is the type of person who follows all of Twitter's A-listers: Ashton Kutcher, Kim Kardashian, and other stars who should've by now become memories of cancelled reality shows. But it's not the following alone that defines the CelebriTool; it's the action that accompanies it.
The CelebriTool, you see, thinks he has a real connection with people like our ol' pal @aplusk. He responds to everything Ashton says, adding insightful commentary to the already riveting updates. For example:
Ashton: "I'm going to go look for trouble. I'll let you know if I find any."
CelebriTool: "@aplusk Sometimes trouble just sneeks (sic) up on you."
The CelebriTool is a huge fan of the retweet function, too, enlightening his fellow tweeters by sharing every morsel of wisdom typed by the likes of @KimKardashian. Allow me to direct your attention to Exhibit B:
CelebriTool: RT @KimKardashian: Up early today! At the gym!
I don't know about you, but my life is certainly enriched.

2. The Social Media Moron

The social media moron -- sometimes described with euphemisms such as "social media expert" or "social media guru" -- is perhaps the most notorious of all the Twitter tools. This specimen is identifiable by his habit of using Twitter to talk mainly about Twitter and how you can more effectively use Twitter, all in a manner that doesn't very effectively use Twitter.
The social media moron spends most of his time discussing the fact that he is a social media moron (though the term "expert" or "guru" is likely to be used in self-referential circumstances). This incessant discussion is conducted primarily for the purpose of convincing you that he is, in fact, a social media moron, as there are no real qualifications for the title.
The social media moron's counsel tends to consist of obvious things any 12-year-old could figure out: Interacting with people is good. Following lots of people will result in some of them following you back. Sending out nudie pics may cost you clients but will win you friends.
(OK, that last bit was from Vanessa Hudgens. But it's still valid advice.)

3. The Kawasaki Guy

Named for everyone's favorite Twitter-blaster, the Kawasaki Guy is the fellow who tweets out links at the seemingly impossible rate of 5,734 updates per second. (I read somewhere that 34 percent of Twitter updates are somehow tied to @GuyKawasaki. That number may be exaggerated, but it sure seems about right.)
A true Kawasaki Guy pays a team of ubertools to do most of the tweeting for him, rarely exerting any effort with his own finely tuned fingertips. The beauty of the Kawasaki Guy, though, is his ability to repeat tweets numerous times, all while sprinkling in marketing messages and convincing people it's part of a personal friendship.
In other words, this Guy's been coached by a real social media guru.

4. The Oversharer

If social networks are giant pharmacies of information, we're all the white-coated wizards behind the counter. Sometimes, however, the info-dispensing can be taken slightly too far.
This compulsion for expulsion is the calling card of the Oversharer, a common tool seen lurking about Twitter's virtual hallways. An Oversharer thinks the world wants to know what she had for breakfast this morning, or how many miles she just ran at the gym. She may even share unnecessary information on such topics as sexual endeavors, bathroom activity, or some highly disturbing combination of the two (don't ask).
The Oversharer gets disproportionately excited about Starbucks runs, YogaBerry decisions, and countdowns to the next episode of "Lost."

5. The Autotweeter

A close cousin to the Oversharer, the Autotweeter takes the concept of TMI and automates it. While the Oversharer isn't likely to be bragging about personal hygiene, his unwanted updates are no less irritating.
The Autotweeter gets his kicks from using services that help keep the world apprised of all sorts of useless factoids. Some Autotweeters might set Pandora to send out updates on every track they're listening to (did you hear that @leonlulu is listening to "Rocket Man" by Elton John?). Others might use Foursquare or similar geolocation utilities to let us know they've become the mayor of Toolville or arrived at the Bennigan's on Who-Gives-a-Flying-Fudge Boulevard.
Maybe geolocation's great if you're on the sending end, but does anyone else really need to know you're scarfing down a Filet-O-Fish at your fourth McDonald's of the day?

6. The Autofollowing Tool

We've all gotten 'em: those bizarre Twitter followers who don't seem to actually know you or care what you have to say. They might be hot chicks with obviously fake profile photos, or cheesy-looking salesmen with smiles broad enough to make your stomach churn. Either way, there's no logical reason they should've started following you.
So what's going on here? It's simple: These lovely ladies and gents are Autofollowing Tools. Autofollowing Tools use programs to seek out and follow random people with the hopes that they'll follow back. Kind of like social media experts, only with more diverse areas of interest.
If you aren't sure if you've been hit by an Autofollowing Tool, just look for the automated direct message; Autofollowing Tools love those things. If your newest pal DMs you to let you know how much he's looking forward to reading your tweets and learning more about you, it's safe to respond with the following:
"Learn this, good sir: You are a tool."

7. Mrs. Inspiration

Unless you're a direct descendant of John Bartlett, there's simply no excuse for sending out a nonstop stream of quotes on Twitter. But that's precisely what our next Twitter tool, Mr. Inspiration, loves to do: bombard us with quote after quote, minute after minute. We get it, dude: You just discovered Bartleby.com. Don't make us suffer.
To be clear, I love being inspired as much as the next guy. But seeing 77 Mark Twain sayings every hour doesn't inspire me to do much besides bludgeon myself with an oversized rubber mallet. And you can quote me on that.

8. The Forced Engager

Following a Forced Engager is kind of like having lunch with that 87-year-old aunt you see once every four years: The questions are corny, the conversation's generic, and neither one of you is really paying attention.
The Forced Engager is typically someone who read an e-book suggesting she build a rich social network. The key to doing this, of course, is "engaging with followers" and "gaining valuable connections." This translates roughly into "asking clichéd open-ended questions in painful attempts to start conversation."
Tweets from a Forced Engager read like an interview for college admission:
"If you could meet any celebrity dead or alive, who would it be and why?"
"What's your proudest moment so far?"
"Who's been the biggest influence in your style?"
The better question might be: "Why can't I come up with anything less tool-like to say?"

9. Johnny Abbreviations

With a 140-character limit, abbreviating is sometimes a necessity. Other times, however, words are condensed on Twitter for no discernable reason.
The people behind this curious condensation are a breed known as Johnny Abbreviations. Johnny Abbreviations -- or J.A. for short -- throw out terms such as "wut," "gd," and "ur" more often than Apple throws out iPhone apps.
If these abbreviations were being used in occasional long-winded tweets, they'd be easier to forgive. But when you send out a message that says "hope ur hvng a gd day ppl!" -- well, ur abbrvtns rnt rly srving any prpse, r they?

10. Tommy Tries-Too-Hard

Our final Twitter tool is an amusing little creature known as Tommy Tries-Too-Hard. Tommy Tries-Too-Hard is incredibly excited about Twitter. He wants to get in on every single facet of the experience, usually all at the same time.
Some of his telltale signs:
Overuse of hashtagging. When every #tweet has at least two #hashtags, or #every other #word is #hashtagged, you know you're dealing with a T.T.T.H.
Uninventive responses to trending topics. Tommy Tries-Too-Hard has to jump on every trending topic he sees, even when he has nothing original to add. If nothing else, it gives him an excuse to use another hashtag.
The regular use of terms such as "tweeps," "tweeple," or any other made-up words involving the letters "tw." One of these every four months is permissible; any more puts you in Tommy T. territory. (Unless you're Elmer Fudd. Then we'll look the other way.)
Follow-gaming. Tommy Tries-Too-Hard is all too aware of his Twitter follower count, and not in any quiet fashion: He'll constantly let you know how close he is to his next major milestone and how you can help achieve it ("About to hit 500 #followers! Help me get 10 more! #I'veNeverTouchedAWoman").
I could twax on for hours, my tweeple, but I have trending topics to attwend to. I look fwd to reading ur comments and learning more about u, tho, just as soon as I finish this Filet-O-Fish sandwich.

10 Worst Halloween Costume Ideas

2012-08-14T11:41:00.002-07:00

Some people tend to get carried away with Halloween costumes, coming up with absurd and, at times, inappropriate ideas that will either make you laugh uncontrollably or cringe involuntarily. Below, we have compiled for you a list of the just such costumes.
Caution: some images in the following list are NSFW. Once seen, these images cannot be unseen. Needless to say, these costumes, even if extremely hilarious, are generally repulsive and will not get you laid. You have been warned.
Banana Flasher

A good choice for Halloween if you want to “stand out” in more ways than one.

Artoo Detoo

We’re guessing this is Artoo Detoo after Geppetto wishes for him to be a real boy. What? Of course that’s the plot of Star Wars! Let’s just hope the guy in the picture is wearing something under that costume.
Human Cellphone

Yes, well, it could have been worse. It could have had a “Dial 0000000 for a special delivery” tagline on the fake screen.
Genie Lamp

This costume is a tad more subtle than the rest on this list. Still, it has lady-repellent written all over it, among other things.
Bloody Fetus Pregnant Lady

This certainly does not qualify as funny. Disturbing, maybe, but not funny.
Bestiality

Looks like this guy had more to drink than he could handle. Then again, the beer is probably part of the costume.

Mangina

Not the best way to get in touch with one’s feminine side, to say the least. One wonders how parents would explain this one to their kids.

Suicide Bomber

What is more disturbing than the idea behind the costume is the kid wearing it and the jubilant expression on his face. Undoubtedly, the result of some solid parenting.

Snake Charmer

You know you don’t have any sexual prospects when your tool is poisonous and you need a flute to get yourself excited. Not charming at all.
Tron Commando

Did you see it? If not, consider yourself lucky. There is nothing wrong with the costume, just with the way it has been worn. It’s common knowledge that when you put on tights, you don’t go commando.
