About three weeks ago I took a last minute road trip to Burlington, Vermont. I was hanging out at a venue called The Monkey House and saw a band setting up. The guitar players had some hip vintage amps and the drummer was setting up an electric sample pad next to his drumset. I began to get a little excited. Then during the sound check when they started busting out 4 part, Greatful Dead-esk vocal harmonies, I lost it! I have a soft spot for The Dead and these guys did them vocal justice. They put on a great set. Check these guys out if you are in Burlington! I kept running into their signs all over the city. They're doing a lot of local playing. Their drummer Todd is a nice dude and a bad-ass player.

On our way back from Interlochen, we made a stop over at my parents house in LaSalle, MI. We thought that we were going to have to leave again the next day to drive down to Indiana University for a concert, but when we got a last minute call informing us that the gig was cancelled, our plans changed. We had some time on our hands, so in true Blue Collar fashion, we got right down to business. What kind of business you ask?...

SNOW DAY!!!

We got off to a bang with our first activity.

Event #1: GUITAR HERO CHALLENGE
Challengers: ROSS MINTZER VS. GREG EVANS
Rules: HIGHEST SCORE ON "FREE BIRD" WINS. THE LOSER DOES ONE COMPLETE ROLL IN THE SNOW, NAKED.

...Ross won, I will leave the rest up to your imagination...

After a feverish bout of button pushing, intense eye staring, brow sweating, and plenty of trash talking (greg:"I'M OLD GREGGG MUTHA LICKA!!! WHATA YA DOIN IN MY WATERS ROSS?!?!") we were all a little exhausted, so we decided to take things down a notch the only way we know how...building snow men and enjoying the view of frozen Lake Eerie.

After that, we were recharged and ready for more head to head competition, but we knew it wasn't going to be simple. Not much can top a Guitar Hero battle, especially one as intense as Ross and Greg's, so we knew we were going to have to dig pretty deep to come up with something...
and since all of us are well versed and enthusiastic fans of Mike O'Mally and his legendary Nickolodean TV Show "Global Gutz", we knew just what we needed to do. O'Mally had the Agro-Krag, but ladies and gentleboys, we had MT. REMINGTON!

Event #2: SNOW BOARD CHALLENGE ON MT. REMINGTON
Objective: DON'T GET HURT

REMINGTON HOMECOMING: INTERLOCHEN ARTS ACADEMY: 3-2-08

On March 3rd, we drove up into the northern land of Michigan to visit Ross and I's old stomping grounds: The Interlochen Arts Academy. We graduated from highschool there and had not made it back for a long while, so for those of you that have had the oportunity to revisit those memories of your adolesence with new eyes, it is needless to say that we had quite a time being back.
Thank you to all of the students who made it out. I hope it was an enjoyable evening for you!
Thank you to Mike Heopf and his lovely lady Shannon for their hospitality and friendship. Remington loves you.

On our way to the this show, we almost died. We were traveling from Ithica, NY where we had played a show the night before at Castaways. As soon as we got on the highway, we hit a snow storm. What followed was amazing, but I figure, rather than explaining it to you now, I will just let you hear the explanation that we gave when we made it to the concert with only 15 min. to spare.

Driving In Another Snowstorm

Brand New Remington EP (on the way..)

Today, we began mixing our new EP. We’ve spent the last 5 days tracking at our beloved, Blue Collar Music Studio. Thanks to the help from our amazing and knowledgeable sound engineer, Alex Deturk, this session is looking to be a real nice one. The band has yet to decide a release date or a title for this EP. Check back soon…

Tomorrow, we head out to play some shows in Mid-West America. Sunday night, we’re excited to play at Interlochen Arts Academy. (Mike and I went to high school there.)

Remington Party- Downtown NYC

Tom and Kendrick are both members of the band Trek Lefty that we will be playing with this Friday (feb 22nd) at the Bowery Poetry Club. This party was the maiden voyage for the Official Remington Cup. All guests recieved one.

Adolescent Art Dig #7: Just When You Thought It Was Over

I really truly thought this was over but here we are. Eric Rivera (Cologne Factory, Magic Tricks) busts out an old DVD of my movies and low and behold, "The Bumblebee Song," one I had almost completely forgotten about, sits patiently in its menu waiting for me to pluck! This is the first song Andrew Mills (Magic Tricks) or here, Malden Swirl made in good ol' garage band, the greatest thing to happen to our group of friends...ever? Like "Knife in the Road," Bumblebee is much less a music video than a dialogueless caper that has nothing to do with the song but when convenient, cuts with the music. Again, for some reason the chronology of my short life is surprisingly hazy, so I'm not quite sure what year this was but I do remember that we shot the whole thing out of boredom and in less than 5 hours! This included traveling and talking people into being in it. No shot was attempted more than twice and usually only once, which, upon looking back is perhaps the only real way to make movies, huh?
A true collaboration, this one has all the Eric Rivera staples: A stick-up, A break-up, and an out-and-out loser. Some highlights are the feces-emulating chocolate bar/mustard stains on Dan Shattuck's (yellowing) whitey-tighties, Patrick Thurber's unzipped fly, and the grandpa mask, which has been resurfacing again and again since we were all wee lads in Northwest Indiana and occasionally would see people that looked just like it!

Radio Bean!...In Vermont with Remington

Last weekend, Remington played in Burlington, Vermont at the wonderful coffee shop, Radio Bean. It was a great trip...

We were driving from Syracuse, NY were we had played the night before. First, we had to drive through all the mountains and snow until we reached the beautiful but cold Lake Champlain...

Then, we had to board the Essex ferry so that we could cross Lake Champlain...

Then we drove 20 more minutes into the city of Burlington, home of University of Vermont and of the band Phish. We arrived at Radio Bean and played a set of acoustic music...

And last but not least, we packed up and took a seat to enjoy the closing act: Wolff. Wolff was a fellow New Yorker who played tuba and sang through an extensive pedal board of loop machines and effects. It was incredible!...

It truly was an amazing trip. Thank you for having us Radio Bean, we will see you again soon!
