I heard this from a friend, Angel, who introduced me to Wait's music years ago. This song, is a strange one. Much of Waits' music is odd and whiskey soaked and filled with accordions and late nights, but this one struck a chord with me. It reminded me of a house I grew up near.
When I was young I used to spend my summers back east, in a small town called Greenland NH. I stayed in my Great-Uncle Albert's huge 100 year old house. It was right across the street from Town Hall and a cemetery. I loved that cemetery, but I was a weird kid. I met a dear friend one day outside the cemetery when I was little. Next to the cemetery was a house. That house creeped me out all the time. It was a worn down house, with a few chickens. I never saw anyone leave or enter that house in all the years I visited. I know I had an active imagination, I still do, but that house creeped me out. I swear I never had any idea how those chickens were fed, I never saw a single person go in or out.
When I heard this song, that house was the one I thought of. Instantly. I hadn't thought of that creepy house in ages, until I heard the song.

Weird Music Wednesday: Fish Heads by Barnes & Barnes

Okay, so this is an exceptionally weird one my friends. This song always creeped me out as a kid, so you're not alone. Little did I know there was a video. No, really. They made a video. I know, I grew up in the age of MTV, I should know all the videos, but sadly, I failed my fellow Gen-xers and I know few videos, even to music I love (for ages I didn't know there was a video to Men At Work's "Overkill" and that's one of my favorite songs) go fig.
So, that all said, you've been warned. The video is weird and the actual song doesn't start until about 2 minutes into the video.
I'm not sure what you would expect for a song called "Fish heads" but, here is what you get.

Barnes & Barnes are the fictional twin brothers Art Barnes and Artie Barnes (Bill Mumy and Robert Haimer, respectively), are a comedy rock duo based in "Lumania", a fictional mythological civilization (similar to Lemuria or Atlantis). Most of their music is standard rock or pop with heavy comedic elements. They are best known for their 1978 song "Fish Heads".
Robert Haimer and Bill Mumy were childhood friends who occasionally performed together on their musical instruments. Following the ending of Mumy's role on the TV series Lost in Space, they would shoot short films with a Super 8 motion picture camera, dubbed "Art Films". The two began calling each other "Art" in joking reference to these films. Bill Mumy is also best known for playing, in the original Twilight Zone the kid who terrorizes a town through his psychic powers.
They formed the band Barnes & Barnes in 1970. Their surname Barnes was taken from a Bill Cosby comedy routine called "Revenge", in which a character called Junior Barnes throws a snowball at Cosby as a child. Originally, both Haimer and Mumy were named "Art Barnes", but Haimer's alter ego was publicly renamed "Artie" in 1979 to differentiate between them.
They first received airplay on The Dr. Demento Show in 1978 with their songs "Boogie Woogie Amputee" and "Fish Heads". The latter recording was released as a single on their own Lumania Records in 1979 and remains their best-known song, as well as the most requested song in the history of The Dr. Demento Show. They produced a video for the song, which was broadcast frequently as a novelty item on MTV. The song was often misattributed to The Chipmunks for its processed high-pitched chorus^{[citation needed]}:

In 1978, Damaskas and Barnes & Barnes recorded "A Day in the Life of Green Acres," a song that combined the music of The Beatles "A Day in the Life" with the lyrics to the theme song of the television show Green Acres. It was inspired by Little Roger and the Goosebumps' similar intertwining of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and the theme to Gilligan's Island.
Actor Bill Paxton appears in the videos for "Fish Heads", "Soak It Up", and "Love Tap".

In the original Wikipedia article it states that Barnes and Barnes were inducted into the Comedy Music Hall of Fame, but I can't find that the Comedy Music Hall of Fame exists. Sometimes Wikipedia is inaccurate, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Crafts: Tentacular spectacular

This is a multi-color tentacle I made. It could be used as a pendant or it could be used anywhere. They're a little delicate. FIMO breaks easy, but it also glues easy, which is okay.

These are two project next to a chapstick, for size reference. These aren't huge. They're smallish and intricate. I like how they turned out. I do wish I could harden with a resin or something but I'm still really wary of using chemicals. I had a hard time using the spray paint for the chalkboard. It's tough but I can sometimes use the chemicals. Hopefully, with therapy and possibly medication I'll get over that, or at least manage it better. I just get afraid I'm going to harm myself with the chemicals and need help. I'm not really sure where this all came from, but I'm trying to manage it. The weirdness of my mental health problems have snuck into my life like so much dust in my life. It just accumulates slowly. The art helps me keep busy and calm but when I have to use chemicals it sorta busts up the groove of the zone I'm in. It's tough. I'm sure though soon I'll work it out. We're working on getting in to the doctor so I can sort out all of this. Hopefully we'll figure it all out. I've been under unusual amounts of stress lately. I found out about some distressing family news and I've been sorta mulling it about in my brain and trying to make sense of it all, therapy would likely help with it. I really do hate the holidays. I'll be happy when spring happens and I can plant veggies.

This black and white necklace has no suckers on it, I just thought it looked very Beetlejuicy. I'm sending it to a friend of mine's daughter. What's nice about these projects is that even if they break, they're fixable with glue or I can even make another, they're 6$ in material to make, a few hours of time, that's it.

One of two black and white striped tentacle with glow in the dark suckers I made. I was surprised at how easy these were to make. I was worried the black and white would bleed and that the glow in the dark wouldn't glow.

None of that was an issue really. It was quite nice. So nice, I made two. I gave one to my friend Jeau, because it's lovely to see her smile. The other I'm mailing to a friend in WA, who is doing an art exchange with me. This is the other tentacle. I would really make oodles of these if I could. I really like the look and it was easy to do.

A dark/light blue tentacle I made for a friend. I attached a chain to it and I like how it turned out. I was worried I'd burned it, but didn't. I like how the tentacles curl over each other. I've seen a lot of other tentacles but I kinda like how mine are turning out. For me they remind me of Davy Jones in The Pirate movies. I'd like to try some realistic ones at some point. I might just do it one of these days.

Craft Projects: flowers, scarves, pendants, eyeballs, oh my...

Okay, so these are the projects I've been up to. The photo to the left is when I bedazzled a wine glass and used it for a vase for some flowers made from watercolors and coffee filters. I thought the bathroom could use some pretty in it. Since it will take me a while to get the bathroom up to snuff I'm working on making pretty little by little. Eventually I will have my oasis. I made some more flowers out of coffee filters. In the photo with the chalkboard the flowers in front are coffee filter flowers. They're cheap, relatively easy to make and if they get ruined, no big loss. Also, they add color which is nice.

The chalkboard project was interesting. It was originally a mirror but I hate mirrors (they just creep me out) so I made it a chalkboard. Now I can have a menu. I just need to buy a real chalkboard eraser for it. In front are two battery operated candles (I love those!) and some holders for chalk. Eventually I'd love to be able to daily leave Walter messages.

My purple bathroom roses. Never wilt. I love them. They by far turned out better than all the others I did.

This is an eyeball project I originally made with a more play-dough like substance. I decided to upgrade to hard FIMO that glows in the dark. I also added on of the doll's eyes I had. I think it would look just awesome anywhere, in anyone's house. I like the tiny frame it's in. I might just mail this to my friend in WA for shits and giggles. The below photo is it in the dark, all glowy.

These are pendant backs. The little circles are lyrics from CDs and maps. I hope to make some necklaces for peeps with these. I'm waiting for my order of clear crystal to go in the front of these pendants. Hopefully this will look cool. When it's done I'll share the photos.

The stack of scarves and a hat I made. I've made 8 scarves and 1 hat so far. I can't tell you how much I love it. I really do. I wish yarn was cheaper. Anyhow. It's one of my favorite things to do now, another great crafty thing. Who doesn't need a new winter scarf?

Okay, the bird below. He's a raven I bought on sale at Michael's around October, because sadly, that's the only time they have these guys in the store. I cut open his closed mouth and placed part of a toy I had. The toy I had was a bunch of silicon-like green tentacles with little eyeballs attached. I opened his mouth and put the tentacle with the eyeball in it. I like the look. I could mail these to peeps for Halloween next year. I just might too. Anything with eyeballs is a winner. I love the look. He lurks outside my bathroom on an old heater. I call him Matthew (if you know the reference, well then, you really know me).

I originally got the idea for him from this photo which I found on Pinterest.

I like mine better.

The Happy Kitchen Part 2: more color and some changes

Okay so I've been slowly changing the kitchen and trying to make it more inviting. It's been a month by month project. Since I have REALLY limited funds, it's going to take a while. All the house projects will take a while. I'm saving a little bit every month for various projects. Currently, not that anyone cares, I'm saving for cat emergency funds. My next saving will be for the bathroom shower. I'll save up to replace the walls and shower stall so the tub will be safe and a real tub so I can have a real bath. I miss baths. I love baths, they're as close to meditation as I get.....sigh. Anyhow. That will take time. In the meantime I'm doing little things around the house. Putting up art, painting cabinets, getting planters for the yard, etc.
In the last couple of months here's what I've done.

We got rid of the broken fridge, sold the stove and I made a chalkboard out of the old mirror. When I repaint the cabinets I'll paint the chalkboard frame to match it. All of this is sitting on an old trunk of Walter's. The kitchen is a lot more opened up. Once I get a new eraser (the one I bought was crap and broke already) I can write up messages or menus. Which is all really nice. I hope to improve my chalk art.
The flowers I made with paint and coffee filters. The candles aren't real candles, they're battery operated. I'm hoping to get more candles and fill up the fireplace with them and some thick wood pieces. I'm not really a fireplace person, plus I have to get it checked out before we use it. For now it will be atmospheric only. All in all the kitchen looks nicer. It's getting there. Once I paint the walls we'll take down the rock posters and it will look pretty nice and cozy.

Weird Music Wednesday: Eleanor Rigby by Doodles Weaver

Doodles Weaver is an old favorite of mine.

Here's the version I know.

I first knew of Doodles from Spike Jones. He was part of the band for a time. Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the late great man:
Winstead Sheffield Glenndenning Dixon Weaver (May 11, 1911 – January 17, 1983),^[1] known professionally as Doodles Weaver, was an American character actor, comedian and musician.
Born into a wealthy West Coast family, Weaver began his career in radio. In the late 1930s, he performed on Rudy Vallée's radio programs and Kraft Music Hall. He later joined Spike Jones' City Slickers. In 1957, Weaver hosted his own variety show The Doodles Weaver Show, which aired on NBC. In addition to his radio work, he also recorded a number of comedy records, appeared in films, and guest starred on numerous television series from the 1950s through the 1970s. Weaver made his last onscreen appearance in 1981.
Weaver was married four times, with all his marriages ending in divorce. He had two sons from his last marriage to actress Reita Green. Despondent over poor health, Weaver fatally shot himself in January 1983.

Radio and recordings

On radio during the late 1930s and early 1940s, he was heard as an occasional guest on Rudy Vallée's program and on the Kraft Music Hall.
In 1946, Weaver signed on as a member of Spike Jones's City Slickers band. Weaver was heard on Jones's 1947-49 radio shows, where he introduced his comedic Professor Feetlebaum (which Weaver sometimes spelled as Feitlebaum),^[1] a character who spoke in Spoonerisms. Part of the Professor's schtick was mixing up words and sentences in various songs and recitations as if he were suffering from myopia and/or dyslexia.^[11] Weaver toured the country with the Spike Jones Music Depreciation Revue until 1951. The radio programs were often broadcast from cities where the Revue was staged.^[12]
One of Weaver's most popular recordings is the Spike Jones parody of Rossini's "William Tell Overture". Weaver gives a close impression of the gravel-voiced sports announcer Clem McCarthy in a satire of a horse race announcer who forgets whether he's covering a horse race or a boxing match ("It's Girdle in the stretch! Locomotive is on the rail! Apartment House is second with plenty of room! It's Cabbage by a head!"). The race features a nag named Feitlebaum, who begins at long odds, runs the race a distant last—and yet suddenly emerges as the winner.
In 1966, Weaver recorded a novelty version of "Eleanor Rigby"—singing, mixing up the words, insulting, and interrupting, while playing the piano.

Weaver made his television debut on The Colgate Comedy Hour in 1951. He performed an Ajax cleanser commercial with a pig, and the audience reaction prompted the network to give him his own series. In 1951, The Doodles Weaver Show was NBC's summer replacement for Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows; it was telecast from June to September with Weaver, his wife Lois, vocalist Marian Colby, and the comedy team of Dick Dana and Peanuts Mann. The show's premise involved Weaver dealing with an assignment to stage a no-budget television series using only the discarded costumes, sets, and props left behind by more popular network TV shows away for the summer.^[14] The series ended in July 1951.

Doodles Weaver on The Andy Griffith Show

Weaver went on to guest star on numerous television shows including The Spike Jones Show, The Donna Reed Show, Dennis the Menace, and The Tab Hunter Show. He also hosted several children's television shows. In 1965, he starred in A Day With Doodles, a series of six-minute shorts sold as alternative fare to cartoons for locally hosted kiddie television programs. Each episode featured Weaver in a first-person plural adventure (e.g., "Today we are a movie actor"), portraying himself and, behind false mustaches and costume hats, all the other characters in slapstick comedy situations with a voice over narration and minimal sets.^[14] The ending credits would invariably list "Doodles... Doodles Weaver" and "Everybody Else... Doodles Weaver."
He portrayed eccentric characters in guest appearances on such TV shows as Batman (where he played The Archer's henchman Crier Tuck), Land of the Giants, Dragnet 1967, and The Monkees. He appeared in more than 90 films, including The Great Imposter (1961), Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (as the man helping Tippi Hedren's character with her rental boat), Jerry Lewis's The Nutty Professor (1963), Pocketful of Miracles (1961) and, in a cameo, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963). He appeared in Six Pack Annie in 1975. His last movie was Earthbound in 1981.
On January 17, 1983, Weaver died of two self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the chest. His death was ruled a suicide. Weaver's son later said that his father had been despondent over his failing health.^[18] His funeral was held on January 22 at Forest Lawn mortuary in the Hollywood Hills. He was buried in Avalon Cemetery in Santa Catalina Island, California.^[19]
Weaver's memoirs, Golden Spike, remain unpublished.
He was Signourney Weaver's Uncle too.
At a later date I'll have a few more of his spoonerisms on here and some of his work with Spike Jones. I loved his music and he is missed.

There are a couple of versions of this out there...This is a version I found recently and had never heard before, it's cute, but not the one I grew up with.

Both by Lonnie Donegan which was the stage name of Anthony James Donegan (29 April 1931 – 3 November 2002) He was a British singer, songwriter and musician and is revered as the King of Skiffle.

According to Wikipedia:
"Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On the Bedpost Overnight?)" is a novelty song by Lonnie Donegan. Released as a single in 1959, it peaked at number 3 in the UK Singles Chart.[2] It was also Donegan's greatest chart success in the United States, reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961.[3]

The song is a cover version of "Does The Spearmint Lose Its Flavor on the Bedpost Overnight?" written by Billy Rose, Ernest Breuer, and Marty Bloom and first released in 1924 by The Happiness Boys (Ernie Hare and Billy Jones),[4] and later a hit for Lulu Belle and Scotty and The Two Gilberts. The song is humorous in content, the verses each describing a dramatic or urgent scenario leading up to the asking of the titular question.

The title and lyrics of the Donegan version were changed in the UK because "Spearmint" is a registered trademark [5] there, and the BBC would not play songs that mentioned trademarks.[6] Donegan's version of the song was recorded live at the New Theatre Oxford in December 1958[4] and was released both as a single as a track on the album King of Skiffle. An extended version with more banter was released on the live album The Last Tour.[7]

Since Donegan's version was released, it has appeared as a Smarties jingle, a performance on The Muppet Show, and re-worked into Czech by Jiří Grossmann. Additional versions of the song were recorded by The Irish Rovers and Homer & Jethro. In Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the character Randle Patrick McMurphy also sings a few lines of this song to prove Chief Bromden is not deaf by making him laugh at the performance. In 2010, Donegan's version was used as the background song for a satellite TV advertisement for Savlon antiseptic cream. It has also been recorded by Eric Nagler (on his 1982 children's album Fiddle Up a Tune); Ray Stevens covers the song as part of his 9-CD, 108 song box set The Encyclopedia of Recorded Comedy Music (2012).[8]

"Does Your Chewing Gum..." has been a popular song on the Dr. Demento Show, appearing 54 times between the show's premiere and 2006[9] and selected for the Dr. Demento 20th Anniversary Collection double CD.[10]

It was referenced on Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation.
It was alluded to in the lyrics of "Ahab the Arab" by Ray Stevens.
It has also made an appearance on the children's television show, Sharon, Lois, & Bram's Elephant Show during one of their performances.
"Does The Spearmint..." is sung by the family on HBO's series Boardwalk Empire in season 4 at the end of the episode titled "The Old Ship of Zion."

Weird Music Wednesday: Spike Jones and The City Slickers "You always hurt the one you love"

I love Spike Jones and his whole crew. His wacky wakikians, his City Slickers, all of them. I started listening to his music when I was small. Every summer back in Vermont, my Aunt Ella and cousin Beverly owned the records and we'd listen. It was fodder for my avid imagination. When I'd listen to the music I'd sit and imagine all the chaos going on around the band. I grew up with a fair amount of Lawrence Welk and Looney Tunes and frankly, that's what Spike Jones and his crew were, combined, only with a big helping of musical genius.
I love this tune. There are two versions here. I recommend them both. The first version here is an actual recording of Spike's crew singing the song. The second version is an audio recording that I'm the most familiar with.

In the black and white video are Paul Mousie Garner (with the bowl haircut) Sir Frederick Gas (with the frizzy hair), and Luther "Red" Roundtree.

Here is some info on the illustrious genius that was Lindley Armstrong "Spike" Jones and his crew. I loved them all.

Spike Jones' father was a Southern Pacific railroad agent. Young Lindley Jones got his nickname by being so thin that he was compared to a railroad spike.^{[citation needed]} At age 11 he got his first set of drums. As a teenager he played in bands that he formed himself. A railroad restaurant chef taught him how to use pots and pans, forks, knives and spoons as musical instruments. Jones frequently played in theater pit orchestras. In the 1930s he joined the Victor Young orchestra and got many offers to appear on radio shows, including Al Jolson's Lifebuoy Program, Burns and Allen, and Bing Crosby's Kraft Music Hall.^{[citation needed]}
From 1937 to 1942, he was the percussionist for the John Scott Trotter Orchestra, which played on Bing Crosby's first recording of "White Christmas."^[1] Spike Jones was part of a backing band for songwriter Cindy Walker during her early recording career with Decca Records and Standard Transcriptions. Her song "We're Gonna Stomp Them City Slickers Down" provided the inspiration for the name of Jones’s future band, the City Slickers.^[2]
The City Slickers developed from the Feather Merchants, a band led by vocalist-clarinetist Del Porter, who took a back seat to Jones during the embryonic years of the group.^{[citation needed]} They made experimental records for the Cinematone Corporation and performed publicly in Los Angeles, gaining a small following. The original members included vocalist-violinist Carl Grayson, banjoist Perry Botkin, trombonist King Jackson and pianist Stan Wrightsman.^{[citation needed]}
The band signed a recording contract with RCA Victor in 1941 and recorded extensively for the company until 1955. They also starred in various radio programs (1945–1949) and television shows (1954–1961) on both NBC and CBS.

I heard this first in about 1999, from my friends Richard "Dead Ear Dick" and his lovely wife, Jody. I met them back when I rode the ferry to work every day. We would catch the 6:30 ferry, be in Seattle at 7:30 and hustling to work. I met them through a mutual friend (Angel) and we bonded over our mutual love of Dr. Demento. I'm still sad I missed a Dr. D concert with Richard a few years back, we would have had a blast. I had never heard this song before, but I loved it. I love it so much I'm made it the ringtone for when Richard or Jody calls or texts me.

Here's a little more about Mr. Addotta from his webpage:

Kip Addotta is an American comedian notable for often being featured on The Tonight Show and the syndicated show Make Me Laugh, among many others. He was also featured on The Dr. Demento Show radio show for his songs, “Wet Dream” ” “Big Cock Roach” “Life in the Slaw Lane”, a series of fish and vegetable malapropisms that, together, form a storyline. In 1989 he released “I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus.” In 1995 Kip Addotta released a DVD, “Live From Maximum Security!”

I love this tune. I heard it first on Dr. Demento's Delights as a kid. (It's a smidge offensive, but that occasionally happens when trying to be funny)

Here's what I found about the band: Rose and The Arrangement.

Rose and the arrangement was founded in June of 1970 by Doug Drill, Sal La Bella, Rose La Bella and Art Harris. The group disbanded in the fall of 1982. During those twelve years they used five bass players. Art Harris, Rex Paris, John Campbell, Joey Lessa and Rick Glass. All of these, except Art Harris, are featured on the Totally Bananas album. Steve Wyrick and Billy Payne were studio musicians who participated on some tracks of this recording. (Mr.Stupid)

Art Harris, the original bass player for Rose and the Arrangement, died in 2010.

Hi all! I know it's been a while and I'm fairly sporadic with my posts. Here goes a try though at routine. I''m a huge fan of weird music, as my husband will attest to so I figured I'd share my love of all things wacky with you. Today's music choice is Who Put The Benzedrine in Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine? by Harry the Hipster Gibson. My Aunties Ella and Beverly introduced me to this song when I was a tween. I would raid their LPs for all of their Dr. Demento and I found this. It prompted me to quickly ask what Benzedrine is. They promptly explained that it was a drug commonly used by housewives to keep their pep back in the day. I always found it hilarious and not what you'd expect for a song from 1947. Sadly, the song helped blacklist him from the music industry. I still love it and hope you can laugh at it too.

Artsy Project: Make kitchen table centerpiece

Make kitchen table centerpiece in silver and black and cobalt blue and white. Needed: vase, spray paint for vase (preferably black matte), cobalt blue, white, gray, silver scrapbook paper, Branches, floral wire (24 gauge), glue, scissors, cardboard, newspaper.

Here's what I made about 2 years ago. I'm just now finishing this project, couldn't be better timing, plus, it is a really good feeling to finally get this off my list.

Our kitchen currently is fairly dark. I'd like to open it up a bit and make it more dinner friendly.

Now, here are some improvements I'd like to make here:
I'd like this alongside our main wall. Instead of a wine cabinet, I just want a side table for drinks and to help with any extra plates needed.

I'd like the kitchen dining area to look like this, with the wood table, and the chalkboard frame in a shade of blue. The Chairs will likely be a shade of blue also:

I like this pegboard idea alongside a wall. It eliminate the hassle of having to search for your pots and pans, and getting knocked about by your pots and pans.

This is a great re-purposed cabinet that I'd love to make for the kitchen, note the casters. I'd love to use this as a sous-chef area for cutting and chopping.

Above it the Kitchen That Inspired Me. I don't necessarily like the color, but I like that the cabinets are bright, colorful and cozy. I want to prime and repaint our cabinets like this. I also like the idea of the island being a different, but complimentary color.

This is what I'd like to do with the top shelves. I like the open nature of it, and the extra lighting. It really opens up the kitchen and you can see all your dishes. I love this idea. I think it would make the kitchen more welcoming and great for family holidays.

I finally used an old, very beloved but sadly stained Sandman shirt, and some old velvet fabric and made some pillows. They turned out okay. I'm sad I can't wear the shirt, I love Sandman & I was given that shirt at Emerald City Comicon. My friend Rich bought it for me, now its a one-of-a-kind pillow. I had an old and starting to get holy Siouxsie & The Banshees shirt that I was going to do this with, but this is good too.

Update on my life

So, the last time I posted was in October. A lot has happened since then. We've moved a couple of times and now we're in Arizona.
A couple of years back I started having panic attacks. I was having them to the point where I stopped leaving the house and found myself unable to find an "out-of-the-house job". This left me unemployed when the company I was working for was sold. We both looked for work, but I was unable to leave the house and Walter has very little work experience, which makes the already hostile job market impossible. So, Walter applied for assistance, and got it. We stayed with friends until they couldn't stand us anymore and then we asked my Dad and Kathy for help, they helped and now we're living in a family home in AZ. It's sad that we lost some friendships, and I miss those friendships, but sometimes life throws challenges your way and not all of your friends can accompany you through all of your hardships.
Thankfully, we're not homeless. It is scary how close we were to being homeless. It's scary to have your friends give up on you. I already have trust issues, the last few months really put all of that to the test for me.
The upside to all of this moving is that my stress has gone down, exponentially. I, accidentally, ended up getting off of all my medication, but so far, no big panic attacks. Things here are calmer. We're now in a small town, far from a lot of chaos and noise, and we no longer have to fear we'll be kicked out of our house at any given moment, which goes a long way towards my peace of mind.
I haven't quit drinking, and I still struggle to not bite my nails, but on the upside I sleep better here and I don't have long bouts of crying jags.
Things have been tough, and AZ presents its' own problems but things are getting better, small bit by small bit. Since we've been here we've had more company visit than I did in the last 5 years I lived in WA combined. It's nuts. We've been fairly busy.
I'm still crafting. I made some tentacles, all really just practice for making Jenn's bookends. I'm going to paint them this week sometime, a pinky-red color.

I have other projects in the works. I made some pillows out of old red velvet fabric I used to use on my old canopy bed (which I have no longer, canopies don't work well in the desert, it just gives the scorpions and spiders another place to hide). I also am hoping to make a giant chalkboard menu for the kitchen. In the new house the kitchen is HUGE! I am hoping to repurpose an old door or two and make a big dining table. It would go well with the big chalkboard menu. I just bought some chalkboard spray paint and primer for the project, so hopefully that will happen soon. I'm also working on family genealogy, I'm using www.geni.com, which is free and pretty easy to use.
I am working out, which is helping too. I just got supplies for the breadmaker so I'm starting that project also. All in all things are going okay. We're hanging in there.
Arizona has also been a great chance to re-connect with our families and old friends, which I'm pleased to say, is going well. We're all older now and not as excitable as we all used to be, it makes things easier.
I'm largely just blithering here, it's nice to just get it all out. I know my path in life might stump a few folks. 'Why aren't you using your degree?" "Why would you move to conservative AZ after living in the liberal NW?" "Why aren't you working?" "When are you going to start working?" are all questions we've gotten. I'll work when I'm ready to, and not a moment before. I don't know what the future will bring, and no job is secure, period. Our liberal votes matter just as much in AZ as they did in WA. I'm not wasting my time crafting and not working, I'm learning how to function again. I'm learning how to process my fear without always breaking down. I'm learning how to have confidence in myself again before I go out and look for a job. When I lost my job I lost more than my job, I lost faith in my abilities. I'm working on regaining that. I'm lucky right now I have a small window of time to do just that, without fear of losing my living space or food or friendships. I can work on getting mentally healthy. I have the chance to kick my PTSD's butt. I'm hoping to get on state assistance so I can see a therapist and make that my final big step on the road to getting better and healthier. Right now, I'm doing what I can, eating better, keeping busy, working out, not stressing about $. At some point I'll start feeling confidant again enough to work, drive, pay the bills, brush my hair every day, eat 3 square meals, keep dr. appointments, have a social gathering, go into crowds and not hyperventilate. I'm not there yet, but I'm working on it. It's a daily fight, but I'm getting a little better at fighting it.

This week is chaotic. Today we bathed the cats. They're still licking themselves back into place. We walked to the grocery store, picked up a few things and wandered around the local antique and charity store. I picked up a couple of books (Marlene Dietrich, Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron, Breakfast of Champions, and a book on riddles) and check out a really cool leather chair at the antique store. I discovered a number of items I can pick up for my artsy projects.

This week I have an online project to do, website work for a friend, and a personal filing project to work on.

Clearly, where I am I cannot do this, this is more of an idea for the future. I'd love to dye the lace black first and then do this. There are always plenty of old lace tablecloths at Goodwill or local antique stores.

Artsy Project: Make myself a neat necklace & bookmarks

Originally I viewed this idea month and months ago. I found this on Pinterest, and it led me to wanting my own, personalized version. I started out making a charm bracelet. Which looked like this.

I gave it to my little sister Kate, it includes some bells on it from a hat I bought with her when we went to Amsterdam in 1996. Somewhere out there is a tourist's photo of me and my sister in Amsterdam on a bridge, me with my green and black Top Hat with tassles and bells and Kate holding her newly purchased combat boots. So, the bracelet it special and I gave it to her last time I saw her, which was at the Cues and Tattoos Festival at the Seattle Center. She bellydances with Gypsy Horizon bellydance troupe.

She liked the bracelet. So, I decided to try and make myself a charm necklace, although, I'd put it on a back burner. I'd always wanted a charm bracelet and thought the necklace idea was an improvement, since I got to add more charms to this. The idea was pushed to the foreground when we got a few boxes of Walter's Mom's belongings from his sister. Among the items was some jewelry. I found a necklace that would work beautifully as a charm necklace, so I started.
Here is what I ended up with.

Make a charm necklace or bracelet. Needed: more charms, needlenose pliers, bells, jump rings, 24" chain, 7" inch chain, closure for necklace.

The keys and the coffin and hand are all from the local bead store. The red stone was repurposed from a necklace I bought several years ago and couldn't get fixed. The hearts were all from Pauletta, it seemed fitting. She was all heart. The token was from Jody and Richard, the stones were from old earrings.

I found, at my local bead store Imagine That! the Ouija board, octopus (it's really a Septopus, but he's smiling so I'll forgive it), teacup, teapot, bat. The purple rings were a donation from Connie, the green bead came from a spare earring of Pauletta's, the Peace sign was also hers.

I am very grateful for all the help in making this. It makes me really happy and it's pretty funky.
It's been a busy week. I had my interview last week with a psychologist for Social Security. That was scary and intimidating, and I'm glad it's over. I got glasses last week. Yay!

I also helped my dad and his Marine buddies get their website in order. Check their page out, for The United States Seagoing Marine Association. Today's raining and thundering so I'm calling it good and getting off the computer for now.

Also, I made bookmarks
They're all alloted for people, they'll be mailed when I have the money to mail them and it's a surprise who they are going to. I had a lot of fun making them and think they'd make awesome gifts. I love unbirthday gifts.

Every goal I had this week has already been thwarted. I have no white glue, so I cannot do the stained glass looking project, Michaels was out of bookmark clamps so I am unable to progress further on my bookmark project. I have to scope out whether or not Joann's will have them or if this will have to be an online purchase. I was able to pick up jump rings for the pendants I'm going to use for the bookmarks, so that's something. I was going to return to the storage unit to pick up a few things for myself but alas the key has returned to its owners and I can't get the things I was looking for. Arrgh! Also, I still haven't been able to get to the bead store and pick up beads for my "charm"ing necklace. I want to add some jewel tones and charms that reflect me. I'm a little frustrated right now. A couple of notes for my diligent readers: I am combining my old movie blog with this blog. Currently it is the only way to make it all work for me, streamlines my blogging. So, here is the first blog about movies/tv/directors from the Symphonic Cinema blog.

1. MASH - How could you not love this show? The fact that it's often being shown somewhere in the world is a bonus. It's a show I used to watch with my Dad, a Korean Vet.

2. China Beach, another show Dad and I both loved. I really loved McMurphy & Boonie & Cherry

3. Scooby Doo, Where Are You? A Staple of my misguided youth. My 2 favorite episodes are the one with Cass Elliot and The One with The Addams Family.

4. The Addams Family, this explains a lot. I have a goal someday of going out for Halloween as Morticia.

5. Star Trek: Voyager I love this show, it's my favorite out of the all of the Star Trek franchise

6. Ghost in the Shell SAC 2nd Gig, Truly a favorite series.

7. Hong Kong Phooey, another favorite from my youth

78. Weeds. I don't know why I like this show, I kinda hate everything about it. I love to hate it. The main character is a horrible horrible person. I've watched 8 seasons, what's wrong with me?

79. Supernatural. I watch it partially for the eye candy and partially for the really nice gorey effects and awesome butt rock.

80. My Name is Earl. I used to hate Jason Lee. I kinda think differently about him now. I really dig the show. It's funny. There are some great cameos too.
