It’s year 4 of the sassiest little wedding show in town! Taking place this Saturday, Indie I Do is returning to Vancouver at the Heritage Hall. Woo! The show is co-produced by yours truly and our friends Andrea & Rob over at Lotus Events, and we’re excited for our fourth year.

Indie I Do is the perfect mix of DIY, local, and independent vendors that together, makes our show the must-go event for couples seeking a wedding with unique, personal style. With a focus on handmade, craft, fun, daring and maybe even a little edgy, Indie I Do promises to be an amazing good time for everybody involved in the wedding! In addition to our exhibitors, Indie I Do will host various guerilla style fashion shows and performances throughout the day by the Diva Boutique, Frocks, Samar and more!

The Best of Blue Olive 2011 Weddings

It’s officially 2012 and we’re already looking ahead and excited about all the new couples we get to work with this year (both those who’ve already booked and those we haven’t spoken with yet!). With a nod to all the best-of lists we see this week, we wanted to pull together some of our favourites from this past year. Favourite lists are so fleeting – this list would absolutely look different if I chose again another day – but these are all images I adore for one reason or another, and as of right now these are my top picks for our Best Of 2011 list!

The best part is looking at a photograph and remembering the moment so completely – what her laugh sounded like, the anticipation in the room, how a voice cracked when giving an emotional speech. These are the things that make the moment, and I hope you get a sense of that in each of these shots.

Since I was little, it’s been a tradition in my family to give ornaments with the year and your name, and who gave them. It started with my Auntie Linda, and has grown to include my grandparents and other aunts and uncles. Decorating our tree is something I look forward to every year because every ornament is a memory, and a tradition I look forward to continuing for years to come.

Reilly and I are snuggled in at home with a beautiful tree, too much eggnog, lots of musical instruments and crafty things and empty inboxes. We’ll be keeping an eye on email over the next two weeks but for the most part we are so excited to simply enjoy the season!

It’s officially December and we are once again offering our portrait sessions at exclusive holiday rates! In keeping with our holiday tradition, there are 10 sessions available for a lucky few.

Sessions can be for an individual portrait, couple or engagement, newborns, kids, or families. We offer our standard session at around 1 hour, an extended session at 2 hours (perfect for hitting a couple different locations), a day in the life family shoot that gets us together for a few hours while we plan activities to keep everyone busy, and our 3 session baby plan which can cover maternity/newborn/1 year or newborn/6 month/1 year shoots!

Each session comes with an in studio reveal session to view and order from your session and one of our custom 8×12″ enlargements. Sessions may be scheduled anytime in the 18 months following your purchase. When redeemed, we’ll work to finalize the session details including date and time, location, and ideas. We are currently booking January portrait dates.

Iryna & Gareth’s Stanley Park Wedding

I adore the intimacy of the simplest weddings, and this was one of those. A handful of their closest friends and family and a few chairs overlooking the water at Stanley Park’s Ferguson Point set the backdrop for Iryna & Gareth’s wedding. After the ceremony we wandered down to the beach and finally to the get away car for a set of smoking hot images that I adore!

T&R’s Whistler Wedding

T&R were married in Whistler surrounded by close friends and family. I loved seeing how their faces would light up the second they looked toward eachother, and to say the day was magical would be an understatement!

The details set an incredible backdrop to the intimate wedding, with all the credit going to Sarah Shore and her team from Dreamgroup along with all the people at Upright Decor, Granville Island Florist, DJ Leanne, Greenscapes, Bearfoot Bistro, and the Uncommon Cake among others for a day that will be filled with incredible memories for this couple and those closest to them.

Eastside Culture Crawl – Come visit us this weekend!

Reilly and I are really excited to be participating for the first time in Eastside Culture Crawl this weekend!

Our live/work studio will be open tonight (Friday) from 5-10pm, and again tomorrow and Sunday from 11-6 each day. All of the Blue Olive stuff you’re all familiar with of course will be on display so if you’re wanting to meet up with us it’s a great time to pop in for some casual browsing through our work, and more importantly you’ll be able to check out some of the other creative stuff we do. Reilly has a large collection of his art photography on display, I’ll have some of my ceramics and typography line (http://www.etsy.com/shop/sassycontessa) out, and there will probably even be an impromptu performance or two on Sunday by Reilly’s band and some other musical friends. All in all, should be a great weekend!

Our studio is at 25 Gore Ave, as North as you can go on Gore just one block East of Main St.

Next weekend – November 20th – is Bridal Swap by the fabulous ladies at Dreamgroup! For all those brides-to-be it’s the perfect place to find pieces for your wedding, and for past brides it’s a great opportunity to make a little cash by parting with wedding items you no longer need. The swap is taking place on Sunday, November 20th at Villa Amato, and you want to be there right when the doors open to buy at 10:30 (for advance ticket holders). Tables are also still available if you’ve got goodies to sell.

Elais & Gary’s UBC Boathouse Wedding

When couples choose to do both the ceremony and reception at the same venue I always like to stay close for photos so they can get back to their waiting guests as soon as possible. With the new landscaping and updates around the UBC Boathouse it made for a great place to walk around before heading back for the party!

The rain let up as if on queue to allow us outside for some beautiful portraits. I really adore these two and their images, so much so that I’m cheating on my own rule of 5 and am sharing 6 photos instead. Enjoy!
