James 1:2-16

The last few weeks we’ve been looking at how we can be better husbands and one of the key verses is 1 Peter 3:7 which reads:

Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

That phrase of “understanding way” means to really pursue her with a desire to know her very well. What are her needs? What are her likes and dislikes? What is her personality? What are her strengths and weaknesses? What is her love language?

In terms of needs the study shared that there are four main areas of need that most women have:

1. Security. Feeling safe and protected financially and relationally. They feel safe with you.
2. Conversational companionship. Experiencing each other and life together. Talking and building relationship and sharing heart and feelings.
3. Significance. She is valued and important and esteemed. An equal “heir with you of the grace of life.”
4. Affection. Treasuring her with hugs (non-sexual), compliments, notes, saying “I love you.”

Ok, guys, here is an assignment for you… (This is the same assignment assigned to us in the Bible Study) … Set a date night with your wife and ask her about her needs. Do the above needs match her greatest needs? If not, what would she add? What is most important to her? And finally, ask her if there are ways that you could improve in meeting her biggest needs. If you do this kind of thing and do it regularly you are on your way to “living with your wife in an understanding way.”

One final thing, are you in a small group or discipleship relationship of some kind? If not you need to get yourself into one. God’s design is for his body to grow together and not in isolation. If you are serious about your personal sanctification then you are serious about the Body of Christ, the church.

The Lord called her (Anna) home on Sunday midnight. Her body was send back to Chiana in upper east region on Thursday at 3:am and buried at 9:30 am. I have been a close family and ministry friends with Francis and Anna for 26 years now. I thank God for giving me His grace to to stand by her sick bed as she took her last breath and also to preach at Anna’s funeral.

I spent the day with Pastor Francis and so happy he is picking up gradually. On Sunday I will be preaching in a joint service in Chiana organised by 8 churches. I will appreciate your prayer support.

I have been invited to be a co-speaker at an Evangelistic Campaign in Ougadougou in Burkina Faso from the 15th November to the 21st November.

Pray that we will be able to fixed a date for the next national church council meeting

My good friend Willy is in bad shape and getting worse. He had run a fever for the last week and this weekend they found out that he has a major infection in his hip where they operated on him in August. They will open his hip back up tomorrow to attempt to and get all the infection out. The wreck happened 2 months ago yesterday and he has been in bed ever since. I spent most of the day with him and his family. He said all he wants to do is be able to walk again. I told him I wanted him to walk again as well, but more importantly I wanted to see him give his life to Christ and become his child. I prayed with him and he wept. I felt like I really needed to share the gospel with him, so I asked him what would happen if he did not make it through the operation and he said he didn’t know. He then allowed me to share the gospel with him. Although he did not make a decision at that time, he wept again and said he was so scared. I am scared for him as well. His daughter and son also heard the gospel; please pray for them. I have developed a great relationship with this family and love them greatly. I am want to see them come to Christ so badly.

Please remember us and our team in prayer as we have all been under a tremendous satanic oppression all month long. There is so much I would like to share with you regarding this, but our Lord knows the details. Please pray for the Woodard family, the Douglas family and, of course, the Karr family. This has been a very difficult month on us personally, on our co-workers and our respective church plants.

As we finish this term, we want to redeem our time so that we can reach as many souls as possible. As the verse above states, the days we live in are evil; however, we are grateful for the privilege we have of serving the Lord in Peru. It is amazing to see what the Lord has done and is doing in our lives and the various ministries that we are involved in. He is to be praised and glorified. We are learning is to give thanks in everything, for this is the will of God. We have much to be thankful for as we look back over the last month.

Ps 33:8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
First and foremost, two people put their faith in Christ—a teenage girl and an adult man. We are planning a special baptism service for the last weekend in November so these, and hopefully others, will be baptized.

It is amazing how God works. Aaron met Willy, a Peruvian business man, 7 years ago. He is a very rich man and sees no need for God in his life. Aaron talked with him about the Lord and how he could have a new life in Christ over the years. He would always make fun of the “new life” in Christ but Aaron still kept up the friendship. Aaron tried to get in touch with him in September and found him in the hospital—he had had a major car accident and had been in the hospital for 3 weeks. He had had several operations and still has a crushed hip which is trying to heal. Aaron immediately went to the hospital to visit with him and took him the book “The Story of Hope.” While visiting with him and his wife, Leonora, he asked if Aaron would pray for him. Aaron assured him that he had been and would continue. Before leaving, he asked that Aaron come visit him at his house as often as possible since he will be in the bed for at least 2 months. Aaron has been to visit him at least once a week since he arrived home and has begun to share with him and Leonora about God’s plan of salvation. Two weeks ago, we invited his daughter, Viviana, to the youth group and she came. We didn’t realize until the following week that he was upset that his daughter went to a Christian church. His wife reminded him that his daughter was with us, and “We can trust Aaron, he cares for us.” Praise the Lord! Please pray for their salvation; we have a tremendous burden for them—the kind that makes you weep for their souls.

Paola and Maybet started coming to church about 6 months ago and were baptized in August. They are so excited about reaching their families for Christ. Paola asked if Aaron would start a Bible study at her home for her family because they will not enter an “evangelical” church. Saturday evening we met at her house with 4 other ladies that are all unsaved and pretty skeptical. What a tremendous opportunity! We expect 2 to 3 more in the coming weeks. We started with the video “The Hope”, which leads into a chronological study of the Bible, and then shared how the Bible is the word of God. We will be working through the Bible chronologically using the book “The Story of Hope.” Our prayer and burden is that these ladies will put their faith in Christ very soon. The co-pastor, Abraham, will be starting another home Bible study with Maybet’s family in September.

The seminary is going well. Aaron loves teaching and this semester he is teaching Evangelism and Discipleship from a chronological point of view. Zack, a senior, has decided to take this class. It is fun for father and son to be studying together.

The youth ministry is doing great and growing. Zack has spearheaded this ministry and is doing a great job. The teens are inviting their friends and taking an interest in helping out. They have many ideas about how to make the meetings more exciting and appealing to the youth. Several of them are working towards camp in January and February. Pray that those who want to go will be faithful and will have the funds needed.

Zack is doing well. He has had many opportunities to share his faith with his friends and seems to have a real burden for missions. We can’t wait to see what the Lord has planned for him. Zack has applied and been accepted to Liberty University for the fall of 2010. Pray that he gets some scholarships.

Caleb continues to amaze us with his ability to work with children. As soon as the kids arrive at church they ask, “Where is Caleb?” He is really special in that area. He is also making more friends at tennis and starting to invite people to the youth meetings.

The ladies ministry is going well. We had an informal meeting in September where we all got to know each other a little better. It was amazing to hear how some of the newer ladies came to Christ. The Bible study is going well—we are studying the Christian family—and there are always many questions. Our next ladies meeting will be in a couple of weeks with the theme, “God Speaks to Me”. Our emphasis will be how God speaks to us directly through His word, since most Catholics are taught they cannot understand the Bible therefore, they should not read it. Pray that this will be a blessing to those who come.

The New Life Baptist Church has invited our church ladies to a retreat on October 30 and 31. The theme is “What do I do with My Feelings?” Pray that many will be able to go and it will be a blessing to all. Debbie will be sharing a devotional and is also in charge of preparing a craft for the ladies to do.

In November we have a full schedule. Nov. 5-8 we are having an evangelistic campaign, ending with our church anniversary. Usually the anniversary is the most attended service of the year. The church members are again doing most of the planning and work. The 10th-15th, we have a retreat in Chile with our missionary partners. The 19th-29th, our friends from Pennsylvania are coming for a missions trip. The 21st, the national pastors are hosting a purity conference for men. Of course, we will also be celebrating Thanksgiving. Please pray that we will be able to get everything done and that the Lord will be glorified in it all.

Everyone who drops off clothes is asked to distribute their clothes into the proper categories before shopping. Volunteers are asked to help with the distribution of clothing.

This is primarily an opportunity to clothe our church Body and bless one another so shopping will certainly be open during the entire week we are running. Also, because we have each been abundantly blessed, we want to be able to give back to our community with the free clothing give away on Saturday morning.

We are accepting all sizes gently used clothes, linens, books and baby necessities.

2 Timothy 4:6-8

There are four speaking roles available (each role can be either a boy or a girl) and several non-speaking acting roles as well. The non-speaking roles will consist of a soldier dressed up in the armor of God as well as the kids who will help “dress” him in the armor. If your child is interested in any of the acting roles (speaking or non-speaking), please have him or her audition for one of the speaking roles so I can get a sense of their acting ability. I’ll be asking the kids at the time of auditions which role they prefer.

There are also seven solos available in the mini-musical: two solos in “Get Down”; four solos in “The Good Fight” (we’re splitting each verse into two solos rather than just one); and one in “I Believe.”

Anyone in the choir is welcome to audition for any role or solo. Children may audition for both an acting role and a solo. However, each child will only receive one part in the musical in order to allow as many children as possible to play a special part in the production. And please keep in mind that ALL the children will be a part of the musical by singing in the choir! The choir as a whole is the main “star” of the show.

We usually have quite a few children audition for each production (usually 20+), so many children may not get a role. However, one of the reasons we hold auditions is to help children develop their performing abilities by performing solo in front of the choir. The process of auditioning itself is very beneficial in advancing singing and acting skills and in conquering nerves. I truly believe everyone who auditions will benefit from the experience. Can’t wait to see the auditions!

“Our days of fasting and prayers in the churches had been very beneficial. One young girl gave her life to the Lord during the period of their fasting and prayers. Three young men in one of the villages gave their lives to the Lord two weeks ago. These young men age between 24 and 30 are noted thieves in the communities. It is amazing how the Lord touched them and they gave their lives to the Lord. I send them three Bibles.

“I will appreciate your prayers for total healing from malaria. It has taken away my energy and appetite for food.”

Hope House Family Center
Praises:

• New house parents have been found for Hope House! After almost two years of prayer, God has led a wonderful couple, Mr. and Mrs. Bartos, to serve at Hope House as house parents. They are sincere Christians who have a good testimony and work with children in their church. Corina Caba, director of Hope House, plans on placing a total of 6 children in the care of the Bartos family.
• Recently, Corina Caba rescued “Marcus” (1 ½) and “Natalie” (7 months) from the hospital. These two children are younger siblings of Alin, the little boy in Corina’s care who died of cancer. They will be the first two children to enter the care of the new house parents and receive the love they need to grow and recover.
• Two little boys, “Gabe” and “Robert” (both 3 months old), have been rescued from the hospital and placed with good families who hope to adopt them.

Pray for:

• The new house parents to have the strength and wisdom they need to care for Hope House’s new arrivals.
• The children at Hope House (names changed to protect their identity) who:

1. Are in the process of being adopted, waiting for paperwork, court hearings, and birth parent approval for finalization – Christopher, Catherine, Katy, Andrew, and Amanda.
2. Are in process of being made adoptable and have families waiting to adopt them – Joshua, Sean, and Timothy.
3. Are in the process of being made adoptable, but need adoptive families – Andra, Angie, Ryan, Darren.
4. Are facing legal difficulties from birth parents as they wait to be adopted or find adoptive families – Gabby, Gabe, and Alex. Pray especially for Gabe as he faces the possibility of being reintegrated back into his birth family.

Please pray that God would bless all these children, their adoptive families, and the judges hearing their cases. Pray that nothing will hinder these children from finding joy in new forever families.

Living Hope Center
The Living Hope Center tutoring program has started out the year with 18 children! This is a significant increase over last year and is a big praise, but also means more work for the LHC staff. Pray for the teacher, Alina, and the LHC staff as they visit the homes of each child to better understand the home situation of each child in their care. Pray that the children will grow in the knowledge and understanding of God’s love for them.

Praises:

• Last week, the Living Hope Center hosted a conference for youth in their newly renovated basement (two pictures below). The conference was held on three consecutive nights for four hours each, so there was a lot of skepticism that nobody would come. However, they were blessed with an average of 130 people every night. The attendees included youth, adults, successful business people, the poor, and the wealthy in the community. Although the conference was focused on giving young people the tools they need to make good career and education choices, it became a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel and build bridges within the community.

• The emphasis on education at the conference gave many young people a renewed vision for continuing on with a higher education, in spite of the difficulties they face.

• The tutoring kids were blessed with a great summer of clubs and activities, which continue to challenge them to grow and dream big dreams.

• Conference in newly renovated LHC basement

Pray For:

• The tutoring program, which starts again on September 15! Please pray for the teacher, Alina, and the other staff members as they expand the program to accommodate 25-30 children. Pray that they continue to have God’s vision for this ministry and a passion to reach these children with the gospel.

• Funding for tables and chairs, which are still needed to complete the furnishing of the newly renovated LHC basement. Pray that this new space will give LHC new opportunities to reach the community of Targu Jiu for Christ. (If you would be interested in giving specifically for this need, you can give online at www.romania-reborn.org or by check and designate your gift for “LHC furniture”.)

• Gabi, a young man in the Balesti church who lost his mother to cancer this summer. His desire is to continue his education and become the best mechanic in Targu Jiu, but he and his grandmother have no income. Please pray that God will provide $150/month in support for his school, transportation, and family needs.

• Gore, a member of the Balesti church, who has been diagnosed with a tumor in his ear. Surgery has been scheduled for October to remove the tumor. Please pray for complete his complete healing and recovery.

Hope House

Praises:

• Alan’s funeral went well and was well attended by friends and family. Several weeks after the funeral, Corina was able to take her children to the beach on vacation and find some quiet after the difficult months of Alan’s illness.

Pray for:

• Marc (1 ½ years) and Renata (7 months), siblings of Alan’s who have been rescued from state care and will be living with Corina until new houseparents for Hope House can be found. It is Corina’s hope to find a loving couple to come to Hope House to care for Marc and Renata, and eventually care for several other abandoned children. We have been praying for new houseparents for a long time, but Corina has been unable to find anyone suitable. Please pray that the Lord will provide a Christian couple, who will love these children and understand their needs. Pray that Corina will have strength to care for Marc and Renata until houseparents can be found.

• Several children in Hope House foster care are in the process of being adopted. Their adoptions are almost finalized, but the process is moving very slowly as they wait for the birth mothers to appear in court to give final consent. Pray for the adoptive families to have patience as they wait. Please pray that each adoption will be quickly finalized, so the children can be safe and secure in their new families.

“I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us…” (Isaiah 63:7)

“The heavens are telling the glory of God,” sings the Psalmist, “and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” [Psalm 19:1, NASB]  Every atom of creation cries out the glory of God.  The Hubble Space Telescope now shows the glory of God in the universe in a new dimension — and in breathtaking color and complexity.  To see these images is to view the work of the Creator in a glory newly disclosed, newly visible to human eyes.

To read of the vast distances and dimensions seen and measured by Hubble’s technology is to be reminded just how small our planet really is — and how even smaller we humans are.  As the Psalmist reflected:  “When I consider your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him?” [Psalm 8:3-4, NASB]

The cosmos does reveal the glory of the Creator — indeed it is inevitably so.  The heavens — and Hubble — are telling the glory of God.  He who has eyes to see, let him see.
