Part I - Software Development Methodologies

This course will help the Blucode-campers acquire the knowledge and methodologies in the right procedure to develop software or web applications as being practiced by the biggest software companies in the world. The campers will also acquire design techniques to help them effectively design web applications using the Unified Modeling Language (UML). They will also be exposed to the ESA software development process including to the different collaborative tools.

Part II – Open Source Tools, Programming Techniques and Quality Assurance Procedures

This course will equip the campers with the skills and value of using Open Source Technology, particularly PHP & MYSQL, in software development and how these technologies will help developers implement their trainings effectively. The campers will also be introduced to rapid application development techniques using application framework strategies to speedily deliver large trainings. The campers will also be introduced to the value of quality assurance procedures to ensure that their applications will run bug-free.

Part III - Knowledge Application

Software Development Standard Project Tasks

1. The Solutions Provider shall submit to the Client a project proposal for approval before systems development will be started.

2. Upon approval of the project proposal, the Solutions Provider shall request for a kick‐off meeting with the Client to discuss all preliminary requirements and level‐off all expectations affecting the project.

3. The Solutions Provider shall conduct user requirement gathering thru series of interviews and process review with the Client appointed personnel.

4. The Solutions Provider shall submit a user requirement document to the Client for sign‐off to confirm all the requirements of the system.

5. The Solutions Provider shall develop a prototype of the system based on the requirements gathered to be submitted to the Client for approval and sign‐off. Revisions will be made to the prototype prior to development until it is approve by the Client.

6. The Solutions Provider shall create the software requirements document from the approved prototype and then submit to the Client for approval and sign‐off.

7. The Solutions Provider shall then develop the detailed design document from the approved software requirements document as basis for coding and development.

8. The Solutions Provider shall start coding the system based on the detailed design document.

9. The Solutions Provider shall simultaneously create the test plan document in preparation for the testing of the system.

10. The Solutions Provider after completing the coding phase will start testing the system thru a series of tests or quality assurance process – unit testing, module testing, system testing,integration testing, regression testing and stress testing to ensure product quality.

11. The Solutions Provider will then install the system in the Client’s server. The server shall also be configured for optimal use. The Solutions Provider shall submit technical report relating to the server in case of any technical requirements needed.

12. The Solutions Provider will then conduct user acceptance testing together with the Client.

13. The Solutions Provider will then perform data migration of key data from existing system to the new system.

14. The Solutions Provider will then conduct user training with the appointed personnel of the Client.

15. The Solutions Provider will then perform parallel testing of the new system with the old system to provide comparative results.

16. The Solutions Provider shall then submit complete documentation including program codes of the new system.

17. The Solutions Provider shall conduct system development training on the Client’s IT personnel in relation to the new system.

Some students enter an academic program, expecting to have no problem at all keeping up with studies and requirements. They soon discover that the program at a particular school is much more difficult than they first thought. Instead of switching majors, transferring schools is a viable option, in this instance. Even if the intended major is likely going to be a challenge at any school, just the experience of a new institution and new teachers could prove to be beneficial. Also, there’s the possibility that a student might discover a better program, in his/her intended major, at a different college, making a transfer look favorable.

2. Social Problems:

This is one of the more common reasons why students decide to bail out and switch to a different school. After experiencing the social scene, a student might discover that he/she doesn’t really fit in to the atmosphere. It could be that the school is too strict and controlling. It could also be the opposite- that the social scene is too loose and too distracting. Social issues and concerns and preferences are completely different from one person to another.

3. Money Problems:

Financial difficulties hit many students very hard. Money can be particularly scarce when a student attends a private college. Private schools can carry a price tag that’s often several times higher than a comparable state- run institution. A transfer, to a less expensive school, could definitely be in the cards.

4. Parental Problems:

If your parents are footing your college bill, then you will likely be subjected to their wrath. If they decide that they don’t like the way you’re performing academically, or that they don’t like all of your carousing and partying, they could very well give you an ultimatum to modify your behavior, or else be forced into a different school. If this happens, the student will have to either find a way to pay the bills himself, or give in to the demands of the parents and accept a transfer to another school.

University of Cebu - NetF(LMS) Free Trial Evaluation Result

I. Summary:

This LMS Evaluation Report provides a brief summary of the evaluation of NetFusion Academic Portal during the free trial period. This report evaluates the feedback from the three (3) high-school pilot classes with 107 respondents, who have assessed the NetFusion Academic Portal, e-learning software, through actual classroom integration. The evaluation aims to determine the effectiveness of the NetFusion as a learning support tool using the internet.

Date of the Evaluation: November 23, 2006

Here are the main findings:

1. LMS(Learning Management System) resolved the primary needs of the school with due regard to inadequacy number of textbooks, reference materials, and instructional needs;

2. Students are exposed to different interactive learning activities like chat room, discussion board, tutorials, videos, animation, etc. that aided them better understanding of the subject matter;

3. Students have already more control over their learning process and can better understand the material leading to a 60% fast learning curve, compared to instructor-led learning as confirmed by the recent study(Web-based training cookbook);

4. Students can commit mistakes without fear of embarrassment of failure in front of a group resulting an increased of confidence in the student;

5. Teachers have more time creating interesting classroom activities as reflected back, having the outstanding rating percentage(65.5%) , of Teacher’s Support category in the student evaluation results (see chart1a);

6. LMS(Learning Management System) can track learners and provide proof of their work and skill development through statistical results;

7. LMS(Learning Management System) allowed the teachers to update lessons and material across the entire network instantly. This keeps content fresh and consistent and gives students immediate access to the most current data. ( Training Magazine reported that technology-based training has proven to have 50-60% better consistency of learning than traditional classroom learning);

BLUCODE PROJECT Curriculum

The BLUCODE Project is an APPLIED web application development training course in which it is divided into three parts, Part I is Fundamentals in Software Development, Part II is Open-Source tools and Part III is Knowledge Application (project).

The campers will be introduced to important learning principles and programming techniques in web application development and then they will be exposed to real world projects.

Part I - Software Development Methodologies

This course will help the Blucode-campers acquire the knowledge and methodologies in the right procedure to develop software or web applications as being practiced by the biggest software companies in the world. The campers will also acquire design techniques to help them effectively design web applications using the Unified Modeling Language (UML). They will also be exposed to the ESA software development process including to the different collaborative tools.

Part II – Open Source Tools, Programming Techniques and Quality Assurance Procedures

This course will equip the campers with the skills and value of using Open Source Technology, particularly PHP & MYSQL, in software development and how these technologies will help developers implement their projects effectively. The campers will also be introduced to rapid application development techniques using application framework strategies to speedily deliver large projects. The campers will also be introduced to the value of quality assurance procedures to ensure that their applications will run bug-free.

Part III - Knowledge Application

This course will expose the campers to real world projects using the knowledge they learn. At the end of the project all participants will be given training certification and an endorsement for future job application.

2006 Review of NetFusion-Free Trial Program

* conducted a 1st session training of 50 teachers, 35 from high school and 15 from elementary Dept. last July 29, 2006.

* requested a meeting w/ Dr. Maris to agree with the following:
a. use the of a lab; CISCO was chosen
b. reduced the # of participants for a quality support

* made the 2nd session training of the selected 30 teachers (from the pre-assessment sheet) last August 5, 2006.

* formed the core group members after the 2nd training assessment:
a. Intermediate Algebra - Maria Gloria Sombrado & Renato Sagayno
b. Environmental Science - Robelen Nacion
c. Mathematics - Bernabe Gullem

* conducted an orientation meeting last Sept. 5, 2006, to the core group in preparation for the courseware creation and classroom integration

* agreed to have a regular schedule for courseware creation w/ the on-site support of the training staff , every Tuesday at 2pm

* the following teachers made the LMS classroom integration to their respective class:

* established an online communication (thru YM or email) of Mr. Edsel Monsalud, the Dean of Computer Department for giving them further assistance.

* Software Operations courseware was the pilot subject which was created thru the support of Sir Edsel. Our existing learning objects greatly helped for its completion.

* Classroom integration initiated by Sir Edsel in his classes of Software Operations with the students from nursing & computer departments

* Customized the client’s site instance of the following aspects:
a. the look and feel of the site (such logo)
b. welcome message (prepared by Sir Edsel)

* gave an online orientation to the students on how to make use fully the forum & chat for a successful learning collaboration

* rendered an on-site visit to the school for an orientation of the other teachers and students as well, last November, 2005
