Beacon Cafe

The Beacon Café re-opens this Wednesday at 12.30 when they will be adding to their regular menu of tea, coffee and cakes a variety of lunchtime hot soups with a roll.

We need to expand the technical team at Bluntisham Baptist Church and are looking for volunteers prepared to help with setting up and running the PowerPoint or learning how to use the sound desk. Full training and support will be given so there is no chance of being dropped into the "deep end". If anyone is interested please contact Peter Lusmore for more details.

Church Workday and Christmas decorations

The next work day, which we are also combining with decorating the church, will be from 9.00am on Saturday 1st December. Main tasks will be clearing guttering, removing moss from roof near entrance, repair to walling, general tidy up of grounds , possible work on heating pipes and decorating the Church for Christmas

Turn up when you are able, and leave when you need to!

Christian Vision for Men: The 4th Sunday is here again so that means CVM will be meeting at The Green Man in Colne 7.30-9pm on Sunday 25th November. These meetings are a great way for guys to get together to discuss stuff to do with the Christian faith. If you haven’t come along, why not give it a try? The investment will be worthwhile.

Youth Alpha Course

Our first Youth Alpha course will be starting this month on 14th September. The course is for young people in school years 7 upwards and is low key, friendly and fun. It will run weekly on Friday evenings at the church hall from 7 to 9pm. For more information click here

As part of the Safeguarding process we are reviewing the role descriptions for the various teams of volunteers within our Church and as each is finalised they will appear here. In addition we are actively seeking to appoint a Youth Team Leader and details of this role are on this page along with a role description for our Sunday School Teachers. The minister's going - what happens now?

Nick announced to the congregation on Sunday June 17 that he has been called to be the minister at Wokingham Baptist Church in Berkshire. We trust that you either heard Nick’s announcement in person or have now had an opportunity to read his letter to the church. Many people have asked: ‘What happens now?’ The Deacons have been answering that question in person and are happy to discuss the process with anyone who would like to chat about it. We will also be discussing what happens next at the church members meeting on July 11, but we thought it would be helpful to have a brief guide available for you to read.

A message from Nick:

"Earlier this week I heard the news that I have been called to be the Minister and Team Leader at Wokingham Baptist Church in Berkshire. Wokingham is a Market Town of about 30,000 people on the edge of Reading. As a result of my meeting with the Deacons, and having preached there on two occasions over the last few months including last Sunday, the church met earlier this week, voted, and it was a clear and decisive call: around 97%. We have therefore accepted the call, and hope to move sometime in the summer holidays."

Rave in the Nave

'Rave in the Nave' the annual Christian youth event for young people aged 12 and over is being held on the evening of Friday July 13th within Ely Cathedral from 7.15pm until midnight. It is organised by all of the major Christian denominations and Christian youth organisations. There will be live Christian bands and DJ on the main stage all evening. Loads of exciting activities including The Eliminator Bungee Run, Mechanical Rodeo Bull Rides, Giant Pillow Fight, Dance-mat competition, interactive games on big screens as well as a Chillout Cafe with separate live music & choir programme and 'Live2theMax' talks for young people. Christian Vision for Men: The 4th Sunday is here again so that means CVM will be meeting once again at The Green Man in Colne 7.30-9pm on Sunday 22nd July.

We have been looking at the CodeLife resource which has been produced by CVM. The subject of this session is Code V “I will look away from the gutter but be prepared to pull people out of it”

These meetings are a great way for guys to get together to discuss stuff to do with the Christian faith. If you haven’t come along, why not give it a try? The investment will be worthwhile.

CVM THIS SUNDAY 24th June – England Football Special! Let’s face it, what most of us will want to be doing this Sunday evening is watching the footie, so let’s get together and enjoy it. The plan looks like this:

All who wish to meet at our usual home, The Green Man in Colne, at the slightly earlier time of 7pm for pre-match refreshment
Then, because the pub will be very packed for the game, round the corner to Orton House, Bluntisham Road, the home of Graham Harris for kick off time at 7.45 (or go straight there if you prefer) to enjoy the footie in comfort. Bring your own refreshments.
Invitation is open to all, including your children. X-box and K-nex Zone provided.

House of Prayer 2012

House of Prayer 2012, will run from Monday 11th to Friday 15th June, during this week the Church will be open from 6am to 10pm. The church will be filled with many interactive resources to help you pray. Pray about difficult issues in the world and pray about our church and community. Suitable for all ages. Make an appointment to come and pray by signing up on the timetable, come as a group or just turn up. No previous experience necessary!

Christian Vision for Men - CVM@BBC – THIS Sunday 22nd April, 7.30pm at The Green Man, Colne. We hope that you will come along – especially if you don’t currently belong to a home group, or don’t manage to get to Sunday services as often as you would like, for whatever reason. But even if you DO manage those things, our intention is for this group to be a great, encouraging get-together for Christian men; to set us up for living life to its fullest and best, every day of the week.

Men want to be part of a ‘Band of Brothers’, encouraging each other and setting each other a great example of what following Jesus means. That’s what this is all about. It’s good fun, and it’s useful. Everyone is busy, and time is precious, but we hope you will make a priority of this evening, just once a month. The investment will be worthwhile. Come and give it a go.

The first meeting of our new ‘Christian Vision for Men’ group went really well last month, and the second one is coming up fast. Next session will be on Sunday 25th March (it’s always the 4th Sunday of the month) 7.30 ‘til 9pm at the Green Man in Colne. We’ll be looking at the second Code from CVM’s Codelife: ‘I owe everything to Him. I’ll do anything for Him’ , along with banter and great company. All men welcome. Be there! Bluntisham Does Sport Relief

On Sunday 25th March Bluntisham is hosting its first local version of the charity sport event The Sport Relief Mile. Our members Steve and Marion Foreman are organising the local run, which is linked to the national event and so will be starting at 10am on the Sunday morning at Bluntisham Recreation Ground. The hope is that lots of local people will take part. Rather than make people choose whether to join in or whether to come to church, we have decided to make it possible to do both! On the day our service will begin 15 minutes later than usual at 10.45. The Deacons are encouraging as many as would like to, to get involved in this great community event. Alternatively, go along and cheer on those doing the running.

How to share your faith in an alien world

On Saturday 24th March, incoming Baptist Union President Chris Duffett is coming to Willingham Baptist Church. At 10am-12 noon he will be presenting an evangelism workshop 'How to share your faith in an alien world'. Chris has a truly original, inspiring, down to earth and accessible approach to faith sharing, and this is a terrific opportunity to get inspired. He recently led a workshop for BMS which was attended by our own Malcolm and Sue White, and they will say it was something they will never, ever forget! If you want to get better at sharing your faith, this will be two hours very well spent.

Easter Baptisms

We are planning to hold a baptism at our service on Easter Sunday. If you would like to follow Jesus through the waters of baptism, please speak to Nick. This time people will have the option to share their testimony in written form: stories will be printed in the notice sheet, and public witness given through the vows taken before being baptised.So if fear of ‘making a speech’ has held you back in the past, this is your opportunity! If you would like to know more, please speak to Nick.
