The idea of Eurofest was to spawn a new event to breath life into the European car scene in South Australia, the last event of this type dated back in the early 2000′s, so what better way then to bring it back in 2011!

The event will run with categories in an Era style format, with both Judges and Peoples Choice.

The next BMWDCSA event will support the Sids and Kids Charity by holding a cruise down to Victor Harbour on Sunday the 23rd October.

We will be meeting at the Homemaker centre on South Road between Corunna and Marion street, its a big open carpark which houses JB Hifi and Super Amart, aswell as a few other stores. The meet time will be 10:00am for a 10:30 departure, and we will arrive in Victor Harbour at roughly 12:00pm.

As we are expecting a large number of attendees, we are going to let everyone choose where they wish to eat on the day, and expect members to be back at 1:00pm for departure back to Adelaide.

Donations for the Sids and Kids charity are to be made on the day and can be of any amount you wish to donate.

All donations to SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood and supporting bereaved families. In Australia each year over 3,500 families experience the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child, either through stillbirth or during the first month of life, from sudden unexpected death in infancy (SIDS or fatal sleeping accidents), SUDC (sudden unexpected death in childhood) or accident.*

We are proud to announce the next cruise will be up to Hahndorf to enjoy a nice lunch at The German Arms Hotel on Sunday the 14th August 2011. We are expected to be at the Restaurant by 12 pm, therefore we will be meeting at Burnside Village Car park corner of Cator Street and Portrush Road at 10:30 am for an 11:00 am departure.

The lunch prices are fairly reasonable and the menu can be found through the website here http://germanarmshotel.com.au/dining/

The driving pace and route is very casual up the Freeway to the destination. If you have further questions don’t be too hesitant to ask. A big “please” is that we get a rough indication of numbers; it will help us out as we need to contact The German Arms Hotel prior to arrival for seating.

How long was the search for your BMW?

I purchased the vehicle of my mother, she was due for a new car and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to modify and maintain such a nice example of a BMW. I never liked BMW’s or the car until I was a bit older, and began looking at modifying it, although it was only the base model, the looks won me over, rather than the performance of the vehicle.
Why this model and not any other type aka e30

As mentioned, I began researching modification possibilities and began to be inspired largely by images and other builds found on the internet, the E34, is the complete package, its undeniably, one of the best looking saloons every made, considering its first production date of 1988. Although my example isn’t the most powerful, it’s suited to my persona, whilst it also keeps me sane being on my provisional license.

What things have been done since purchase?

Since owning the E34 I have done too many modifications, in all honesty, it’s been an expensive exercise. The vehicle has received full M-Technic treatment, which consists of front, side, and rear skirts, as well as M-System wheels; all items have been sourced from Australian delivered 535iS models. The exterior lighting has been changed from the dated orange look, to their clear counterparts, at the front, side and rear of the vehicle.

The interior has been tinted to legal specifications, with a 35% tinting to all windows minus the front windscreen. The interior roof and pillars have been covered in Suede, attempting to imitate Alcantara, but this was done to primarily resolve a sagging headliner. The steering wheel was changed to the M-Technic II version, whilst some other interior elements have also been changed. Many more modifications have been undertaken, however, these are less important in comparison with the ones talked about above.

What upsets have happened?

No major upsets with the car, thankfully, however, some mandatory things have been replaced, the suspension has just been replaced with a Bilstein + Vogtland Setup, this has taken place of the failing old parts, and now the car is noticeably better handling, whilst dropping the car to give it a better stance.

What moments have really showed the driving pleasure of your BMW?
The greatest pleasure I have with my BMW is the visual appearance which is noticed purely by others, the car receives great comments from everyone, it’s a real head turner, but in a good way. I guess this makes up for the lack of power the car outputs, however, this may one day be resolved.
Future improvements?

No real improvements for the car, I’ve called it completed, and promised myself no more modifications of high value are to be done, but an M3 S50 or Turbo M50 engine and suitable gearbox, would be very nice.

How long was the search for your BMW?

To find the BMW 318is that I own at the moment, I didn’t look for too long. Basically I decided that I wanted a change, from the Nissan Maxima that I owned as my first car, and decided that I wanted a 4 cylinder 2 door car. The BMW ticked these boxes and within 2 weeks of beginning my search of the Saturday paper and internet car sales websites I had landed the car I own today.
Where did you find it?

The BMW 318is that I currently own was listed on the website carsales.com.au, I rang up about it as soon as I saw the listing and within a week it was mine.
Why this model and not any other type aka e30

My attention was drawn to an E36, mostly due to the way it looks. I love the styling that they have and that they really don’t look as old as they are. To go with this I bought it with the intention of modifying it lightly, and this model when done correctly can be made to look absolutely amazing! The other aspect of the E36 that was important to me is that they can be reasonably cheaply and easily maintained, which as a full time uni student is very important to me. The running costs of the 318is are fairly low when compared with other branded cars and BMW models, if you stay on top of the maintenance.
What things have been done since purchase?

Since owning the 318is, I have spent a fair bit of money doing preventative maintenance on the car and regularly servicing it, just to make sure that nothing really big goes wrong.

At the same time I have also spent money modifying it from standard to bring make it stand out a bit from many of the chrome wheeled E36s that we see now. These modifications are mostly cosmetic, and include a Reiger Infinity I front bumper lip, 17 inch E46 M3 style replica wheels, lowered King Springs with Bilstein shock absorbers, a bigger after market sound system and then a few “go” modifications which include a Cosmos Racing cold air intake, a custom exhaust system, front strut brace and M3 rear sway bar.
What upsets have happened?

During the time that I have owned the car nothing major has gone wrong mechanically with it. However it has been involved in a few minor prangs, that have meant that I have had both front and rear bumpers resprayed along with having the side skirts colour coded white to match the rest of the body.
What moments that really showed the driving pleasure of your bmw?
I really enjoy just driving my BMW all the time. Whether it is driving it through the hills or just through the city going from A to B.

The first time I really enjoyed the driving pleasure of my BMW, was during the first ECCA cruise that I attended with it. Being able to get together with other likeminded people and to be able to pick each other’s brains about our cars probably showed the pleasure in driving and owning my BMW.
Future improvements?

Down the track, I don’t have any big plans for my car. I will continue to play around with its look, by changing things like headlights, front grill and wheels.
