This first version of the Drive Away Protection System added a circuit from the General Module to the DME. The added circuit was spliced into the existing code function from the Board Computer (BC) to the DME.

The components of the Drive Away Protection System are:
• Door Lock Switch
• General Module
• Board Computer
• DME

System Components

Door Lock Switch

The door lock switch provides a 12V (High) signal to the GM when the vehicle is locked from the outside. The switch also provides a Low signal to the GM when the vehicle is unlocked.

General Module

The GM receives the lock and unlock signals from the door lock switch and signals the DME with a 12V High signal when the vehicle is double locked or with a Low signal when this vehicle is unlocked.

Board Computer

The Board Computer (BC) through its’ code function provides a High signal to the DME to disallow vehicle operation or a Low signal to allow vehicle operation.

AFTER you have determined the location of a permanent battery source for the alarm control unit and defined the type of door switching used in the vehicle, you must also determine a source of SWITCHED 12 VOLTS from the ignition switch. This source is usually found in the ignition switch wire harness and will show constant voltage while the key is “ON” and the engine is running. This voltage source must be eliminated when the engine and ignition are switched “OFF”. Upon determining the switched 12-volt source, locate the PARKING LIGHTS WIRE on the vehicle. This wire is usually accessed at the rear of the light switch, or at any convenient light mounted in the front of the vehicle that is easily accessed from under the hood. The correct wire will show voltage when the light switch is turned on to its parking lights position. If this installation will honk the vehicle’s horn in place of the siren, locate the horn line at the fuse block or main harness from the fuse block.

BECAUSE OF THE HIGHLY TECHNICAL NATURE OF MANY VEHICLES, IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT A VOLTMETER BE UTILIZED FOR CHECKING ALL ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS IN THE VEHICLE, INSTEAD OF A COMMON TEST LIGHT! Test lights can cause vehicle computer damage if the wrong wires are probed and can cause air bag systems to activate (deploy). Either of the above will cause extensive damage to the vehicle resulting in costly repairs. Pay close attention to any and all caution labels in the vehicle. BMW Mini Cooper Installation Instructions

Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with this baseplate. Due to the design of the removable tabs, the RangeFinderII, Adventurer, and Ambassador tow bars can not be used. The Acclaim tow bar may be used, but will not fold and store on the front of the vehicle. Adapters, except the BX8833 and BX88151, can not be used with this baseplate.

Convertible Installation Manual Notes:

The front fascia is removed for baseplate installation. There are no holes to drill. Some models will need to have the mesh in lower grill opening trimmed to allow baseplate to come through.

The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for auto manufacturer’s tolerances. These minor adjustments may include ?ling a hole slightly, bending electrical rods and/ or bending end plates.
