Christian Smith – Carambola EP (Bedrock)<br Señor Smith has this lovely habit of releasing new EPs nearly every month (or so it seems). His latest outing, the two-track Carambola EP, just came out on Bedrock and it’s hella good! The title track is a whirling progressive/techno tune carrying big trancey string waves and steady beats, while Carambola Green is an even more epic track (a remix, really) that has that same superb festival vibe. Big tune alert!<br Rating: 8.0/10 Release date: out now

Drums Of Death – Blue Waves (Civil Music)<br The final edition in DoD’s Waves trilogy is a razorship batch of twisted electro vibes and broken beat mania. Opening track Life In The Machine revolves around oscillating bells, staccato snares and mental sirens, while Let No Shadow Fall Upon You takes us back to the early nineties with its garage grooves

The first one is a heavy piece of shuffle house track with several effective breaks and a nice overall Balearic twist, while the B-side drops disco-y grooves in the form of a Daft Punk-light hitter. Pretty good stuff.
Rating: 7.3/10 Release date: May 21st, 2012

Piemont Cool Arrival (Suchtreflex)
Piemont return to the tech house front with a brand new track backed up with remixes by H2 and DJ W!ld. The original version of Cool Arrival is a deep but very funky floorfiller with electro synths and a very powerful breakdown, perfect for midnight moments. H2's remix is a bit heavier, relying on

Dave Brody – Eclipse (Labyrinth Music)
Labyrinth's third release comes from the hands of Dave Brody and is backed up by a remix by Guy J. The original mix of Eclipse is a heavy, somewhat industrial progressive house track propelled by deep kicks amd metallic drums, while a psychedelic synth arp takes care of the melodics. A very trippy and very solid track. Guy J's remix is a bit more rhythmic, uptempo and organic, with its synths slowly transforming into epic waves.
Rating: 7.8/10 Release date: May 5th, 2012

Manik I Got Us EP (Ovum)
Christopher Manik returns to Ovum with three brand new, slightly oldschool sounding house tracks. Up first is I Got Us, a very atmospheric mid-tempo track composed according to the laws of 80s house (Larry Heard, Mr. Fingers, Virgo etc): soulful vocals, fierce beats and throbbing basslines are

Alan Fitzpatrick & Jon Gurd – Electric Love (8 Sided Dice Recordings)
8SD label head Alan Fitzpatrick pairs with Jon Gurd on two highly energetic techno tracks. First up is Electric Love, a pulsating piece of big room techno with staccato synth strokes and pumping kicks that turn the track into a very potent floorfiller. Pendulum on the flipside brings on a much heavier ‘Scandinavian-techno’ groove with a handful of very powerful breaks and climaxes and whirlnwind fx. Big stuff.
Rating: 8.0/10 Release date: May 2012

Thomas Lauren You Wouldn't (TEAM Records)
Coming up on Team Records' release roster is this new single by Dutch producer Thomas Lauren titled You Wouldn't. Built around a stuttering minimal techno groove, the track carefully builds up tension before turning into a bass-heavy chunk of organic floor tuneage. The breakdown in the middle part is

Lakker Arc EP (Blueprint)
Lakker are Dara Smith and Ian McDonnell from Dublin, who have been putting out a series of dub techno EPs since 2001. Their debut release for Blueprint is a mysterious four-track journey through the deepest of techno swamps. Up first is BKRO, a nearly beat-less tune with warped synth waves that give the track a
very mystic feel. ED's a more minimal techno-tined track, Arc is the slow-moving melodic heavy hitter (and the best track on the EP), after which the IDM-esque Evening Lemon closes things with a rather hectic but very well produced slab of broken beat mania.
Rating: 8.0/10 Release date: April 23rd (vinyl) April 25th (digital)

Composer Polar Bear (Remixes) (InFiné)
Composer's Polar Bear track gets the remix treatment from three of France's most exciting artists.

Justin Martin – Ghettos & Gardens (Dirtybird)<br Ghettos & Gardens is the debut single from Justin’s forthcoming album of the same name and it’s quite a lovely swing track really. Starting off with a vivid groove and semi-epic deep house chords, the track later on evolves into a heavier chunk of pseudo-dubstep when a series of lowdown bass whirls kick in. A bit of a novelty track, but nonetheless pretty decent. Flipping over, Hood Rich keeps things on the deep house side with heavy synth stabs, hip-hop-esque vocals and arped bleeps.
Rating: 7.2/10 Release date: April 18th, 2012

Johannes Heil & Ingo Boss – High Five (Herzblut Recordings)<br Johannes Heil makes his debut on Stephan Bodzin’s Herzblut label together with emotech hotshot Ingo Boss. The title track of this EP is an organic tech-house track with warm bass sounds and pulsating string waves.

Infiniti – The Remixes (Tresor)
Tresor's 250th release comes in the form of an EP containing two reworks from classic Infiniti Juan Atkins) tracks. Up first is the original mix of Infiniti's 1996 track Flash Flood, a suave Detroit belter that still hasn't lost any of its magic. Function's remix of the track is a steadier four-to- the-floor cut with slamming snares and layers of dark bass. Flipping over, we first get to hear the original mix of Skyway, a heavier, drum-laden piece of techno booty with a nervous synth arp coursing through its veins, after which
Redshape delivers a highly exciting and very dirty house version of the track.
Rating: 8.2/10 Release date: April 23rd, 2012

Bushwacka!

Jesse Saunders vs. Mr. Quertz MainLine (Broken Records)
Jesse Saunders, the man behind the 'very first house tune ever produced' (On An On, 1984), returns with a brand new track plus three additional remixes. First of is the Disco Tek Percussion Rmx of MainLine, which is a drum-driven and highly energetic house track with a fat juicy vibe. Nothing too fancy,
just some nice grooves for the clubs. The Nuthin In The Same Mix turns to the classic NY vocal house sound for a very floor-friendly hands-in-the-air cut including some great samples. The Disco Tek Dub Slice is, well, a dub version of the original, while the rumbling Break It Down closes the deal with the heaviest track of the pack. All in all a solid house music release.
Rating: 6.8/10 Release date: March 27th, 2012

Nic Fanciulli The Lost

And it's quite something really. DJ 3000 turns Gerald Mitchell's Belly Dancer into a full fledged tribal techno belter with nods to the Detroit sound, while Sascha Sonido's remix of the same track is a housier affair with a very nice breakdown in the middle part. Delta Funktionen, one of todays tastemakers in
the international house scene, delivers a chunky 808-driven, incredibly arse-kicking remix of Franki's Juncaj's Moments In Time, after which Enthousiaste Gasten step up to remix Franki's The Pressure, which is the heaviest track of the bunch

The man first appeared on our radar right before the release of his Shower Scene EP (2011), a track so god damn heavy on the bass we couldn’t stop playing it. Oh the poor neighbours! Anyway, his latest track Let It Go is another thick slab of super groovy house. The original mix is a hook-riddled cut with a very nice breakdown and great overall vibe, while the Eats Everything Refuse remix gets all Roger Sanchez on us with its New York vibe and likewise vocals. Gold-plated house, yessir!<br Rating: 7.7/10 Release date: Out Now<br <br Black Strobe Italian Fireflies Remixes (Blackstrobe Records)<br Ah yes, Black Strobe.

We knew Keith Tenniswood (aka Radioactive Man) was on form when we saw him play the set of the night at Wang late last year – and considering that A Guy Called Gerald, Mark Broom and Ed DMX were all on the bill that night, you know he had some tough competition. But even so, he reminded us why he’s one of our favourite UK artists with a live set that showcased his ability to combine heavy electro basslines with both a sense of menace and some serious machine-funk. Pretty much like he’s doing here, actually…

We get straight down to business with Flying Fuck, which starts out as quite sedately with some ethereal sounds alongside the squelchy synths, but then a properly heavy bassline drops in around a third of the way through and you remember just who you’re dealing with. From then on it’s

In other words: Devilish techno with a capital D! Up first is Shadowdancing, a pitch black piece of twitch-techno propelled by menacing kickdrums, dark synth stabs and a very retro electro-disco vibe for utter and complete dancefloor destruction. Dave Clarke and Mr. Jones team up as _Unsubscribe_ for the first remix, which has become an equally powerful, bit more industrial reinterpretation with furious synth sweeps and a shitload of sinister fx. Closing the EP is a remix by George Lanham, who delivers a very powerful techno version with blazing beats and an evil breakdown.
Rating: 8.0/10 Release date: February 23rd,

Luke Solomon is a stalwart of the UK house scene, being a longtime collaborator with Derrick Carter in Classic Recordingsand with Kenny Hawkes (RIP) on the Space mid-weekers back in the 90s (plus Girls FM too and his chart-topping work with Freaks), but it’s always good to see one of the true school not resting on their laurels and showing how they earned their rep in the first place.

That’s certainly the case here, as Luke’s original take on Ultrasound (for rising label Fullbarr) is a multi-layered piece of ‘house’ that actually contains elements of lots of different genres. Acid seems to hold sway here, with those heavy keys and liquid synths adding a lightness of touch, but then a more driving pulse takes over, along with some eerie vocal mix-ups and even some tribal drums, which

Solee, Oliver Schories and Boss Axis step up to rework Gui Boratto's 2006 EP Paralelo. Solee's remix is a beefy deep house slammer that slowly transforms into a super sexy mix of soaring synthesizers, pulsating strings and throbbing bass, while Oliver Schories delivers a more mysterious and incredibly organic tune marked by a huge breakdown and a subtle but very solid climax. Boss Axis' version stays close to the original with its stripped-down rhythm and warm synth layers.
