After a feud with a civil rights leader, Donald Trump meets with Martin Luther King III

Donald Trump met with Martin Luther King III on Monday, a holiday commemorating the life of King's father, which this year was marked by Trump’s quarrel with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a hero of the civil rights struggle.

King, the oldest surviving child of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., described the meeting at Trump Tower as constructive and said it had centered on efforts to improve the voting system.

Asked by reporters about Trump’s characterization Saturday of Lewis as “all talk … no action,” King said he “absolutely” disagreed.

“I would say John Lewis has demonstrated that he is action,” said King.

But, he added, “Things get said on both sides in the heat of emotion. And at some point in this nation, we’ve got to move forward.”

The conflict between the president-elect and Lewis began Friday when NBC’s “Meet the Press” released video of Lewis saying he did not consider Trump a legitimate president.

On Saturday, Trump responded via Twitter, criticizing Lewis and referring to his Atlanta-area congressional district as downtrodden and crime-ridden. Actually, it includes many of the city's high-end areas.

King said that Trump told him that he intended to represent all Americans.

“I believe that’s his intent,” King said. “I believe we have to consistently engage with pressure, public pressure.”

In his reference to voting, King appeared to be referring to difficulties faced by African American voters, many of them due to restrictive laws put into effect by Republican legislators.

Trump, during his campaign, suggested that voters in overwhelmingly African American cities like Philadelphia could be planning to steal the election via voter fraud.

After the meeting, Trump accompanied King down the elevator and shook his hand before returning upstairs. He did not speak to reporters.

These Democrats aren't attending Trump's inauguration

Washington (CNN)More than two dozen Democratic lawmakers are boycotting President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, particularly after revelations of Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 election and his rebuke of civil rights icon John Lewis on Saturday. No senators have said they are boycotting.

Some members have said they will be protesting in Washington and in their districts instead.
Here's a list of Democrats who have publicly said they won't be at Friday's ceremony:

California Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard

"I thought long and hard about attending the Inauguration because I value our democracy and respect the office of the presidency, regardless of party. However, the disparaging remarks the President-elect has made about many groups, including women, Mexicans, and Muslims, are deeply contrary to my values. As a result, I will not be attending the Inauguration," Roybal-Allard said in a statement Sunday.

Georgia Rep. John Lewis

The civil rights icon declared last week that he would boycott the event because he doesn't see Trump as a "legitimate" president in light of Russian interference.

"You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong," Lewis told NBC News.

Trump harshly responded Saturday, calling Lewis "all talk" and "no action" and saying he should focus more on "fixing and helping" his district rather than "complaining" about the Russia's role.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a noted vaccine skeptic, said Tuesday that he's accepted President-elect 's offer to chair a commission to investigate vaccine safety. But Trump's transition said later Tuesday no decision has been made on the potential commission.
Kennedy told reporters in the lobby of Trump Tower in Manhattan about the forthcoming position after a meeting with the president-elect.
"He asked me to chair a commission on vaccine safety and scientific integrity ... I said I would," he said.

He added that Trump called him to request the meeting and that he wants to ensure that vaccines are "as safe as they possibly can be."
In a statement released late Tuesday afternoon, though, Trump's transition disputed that any decisions had been made about a potential commission.
“The President-elect is exploring the possibility of forming a committee on Autism, which affects so many families; however no decisions have been made at this time," the statement reads.
Kennedy, the son of the famous attorney general and nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, is a vocal critic of vaccines and regularly expresses concerns that certain preservatives in vaccines could cause developmental disorders or other negative side effects.
He told a Sacramento audience in 2015 that drug companies can "put anything they want in that vaccine and they have no accountability for it." Later that night, he also floated a connection between vaccines and autism, while calling the effects of vaccines a "holocaust."
Scientists have repeatedly shot down any accusations about a link between vaccines and developmental disorders like autism, noting that there are various safeguards to ensure vaccines aren't dangerous. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believes there is "no link" between autism and vaccines, and points to a number of studies that back up that assertion.
Yet the belief persists on the fringes of both the political left and right, boosted by some prominent celebrities.
As Kennedy suggested, Trump has repeatedly entertained a link between vaccines and autism, sharing a story in 2014 about a "healthy young child" developing autism after vaccinations.
He went on to clarify his stance during a September 2015 GOP primary debate, where he said that he is "totally in favor of vaccines ... in smaller doses over a long period of time." But he did note that autism is an "epidemic" and retold another story of a toddler allegedly developing autism after being vaccinated.
White House spokesman Earnest declined to comment on the commission but said there is "not any scientific ambiguity" about vaccination.
"The scientific advice that has been consistently offered by government and non-government scientists alike is that parents should have their children vaccinated," he told reporters aboard Air Force One.
“I don’t want to speak in a whole lot of detail about the incoming administration’s plans because I don’t know a whole lot about them.”

Asked about the role cybersecurity policy will play in his administration, he steered Americans toward bike messengers.

"If you have something really important, write it out and have it delivered by courier, the old-fashioned way, because I'll tell you what, no computer is safe. I don't care what they say, no computer is safe," he said. "I have a boy who's 10 years old, he can do anything with a computer. You want something to really go without detection, write it out and have it sent by courier."

Kim Jong Un became the first head of state to grab President-elect Donald Trump’s attention in 2017, after the North Korean leader said he was close to test-firing a missile capable of hitting the continental U.S.

“It won’t happen!” Trump retorted on Monday on Twitter, a platform he frequently uses to weigh in on global and domestic affairs.

Still, Trump gave no specifics on how he’d actually do that. Presidents from Bill Clinton to George H. W. Thinking otherwise is belying reality.”
