THE INCREASED ADVANTAGES OF RAIL BNSF Railway and other U.S. railroads continue to improve their fuel efficiency and are becoming an even more fuel-efficient (and environmentally-friendly) way to haul freight in this time of ever-changing gasoline and diesel prices. Trains now move a ton of freight an average of 436 miles on a single gallon of diesel fuel and they’ve increased their fuel efficiency by 80 percent over the past 25 years. A single intermodal train can take up to 280 trucks off highways (making room for 1,100 cars), improving air quality, saving energy and reducing congestion.

BNSF COMMUNITY UPDATE BNSF Railway kicked off the holiday season on December 4th with the 18th Annual Santa Claus Express holiday train. Over five days, trips departed from Commerce, Wilmington, San Bernardino, Duarte and Victorville with more than 1,000 deserving children on board.

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 25, 2005 – The Waterfront Coalition today released a comprehensive "white paper" on the Marine Container Transportation System in which it urged private industry and government to take immediate action to address congestion and infrastructure needs that could hamstring American commerce if not adequately addressed soon. The policy paper, entitled The National Marine Container Transportation System: A Call to Action was developed over the last four months by a group of American companies including American manufacturers, brand name suppliers, retailers, farmers, and transportation providers.

(TSX:P) have announced that BNSF will keep its “Green Goat®,” an environmentally friendly hybrid switch engine, in service for five years in the Los Angeles area and that it is acquiring four cabless Green Goat® units for use in Texas.
