Hi, my studio is available around June 1st (flexible, a little earlier or later is possible). It’s a very large studio with a view of San Francisco and the bridges, and lots of natural light. My rent is $1175, and the rent will be close to that for the next tenant, and parking is available for $50/month. The main room is about 15′x20′, and there is a large kitchen with gas stove, walk-in closet, bathroom with shower/tub, coat closet, and two more smaller storage closets. Gas is included, and electricity for me runs $10-15 per month. The apartment is at 540 Alcatraz Avenue, right at the 1/1R stop and not far from the 18 and 51B, so it’s easy to get to campus. Please email me for pictures and to see the place!

Hi,
We are looking for a multi-month solution for the care of our 8 month old puppy/dog, as we will be in and out of Berkeley a fair amount for the remaining spring and summer. (I thought we had an arrangement for her that then fell through.) She is a black lab/border collie mix, about 35lbs, very sweet and smart, good with people and dogs, loves to run and fetch balls. We are looking for housing for her between April 10th and early August. if you’d like to try having a dog, with the most difficult parts of puppyhood behind, this is a good way to explore. We’d offer a stipend to take care of her as well. Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks. Email ckutz@law.berkeley.edu.

The undergraduate Legal Studies Program may have openings for you to serve as a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) in the fall semester of 2013. For a given course, a GSI attends and helps facilitate faculty lectures, organizes and teaches discussion sections, grades examinations and papers, holds office hours, and provides individual mentoring to undergraduate students.

A schedule indicating the lecture courses for which there may be openings is included. For each class, the days and times of faculty lectures and discussion sessions are indicated. This information is also available on the online schedule of courses, effective March 19. You would be required to attend faculty lectures and direct two sections for a course you are selected to serve as a GSI. Be sure to check these days and times against your own course schedule before applying for a particular course because there is no flexibility to adjust them.

To be considered, send a brief statement (no more than 1 page total) about your qualifications related to one or more courses you are available to serve as a GSI in the fall term; a resume/CV; and an informal transcript electronically to: Professor Michael Musheno at mmusheno@law.berkeley.edu no later than Thursday, April 11 at 5pm.

We are going to be travelling a fair amount in the spring and summer and need a long term solution for our very sweet 5 year old housecat, Henrietta. Specifically, we’re hoping someone can house her from, say, April 10th through about August 10th. She has lived happily with another cat, and coexists peacefully now with a dog. There would be a monthly stipend for you for her care, plus we would cover all her expenses. And cats can happily be left for 2-3 days. Please let me know if you are interested. To my mind, she is a great cat personality — affectionate but not annoying. Thanks. Chris Kutz, ckutz@law.berkeley.edu

GSRs Needed for Wrongful Conviction Project

Summer 2013 GSRs– Now accepting applications

The Chief Justice Earl Warren Institute on Law & Social Policy (Warren Institute) at the
UC Berkeley School of Law is a multi-disciplinary research center that tackles the most pressing issues in education, civil rights, criminal and juvenile justice, immigration, work/family and healthcare facing California and the nation.

The Warren Institute is currently seeking law students to assist in the criminal justice program on the Wrongful Conviction Project. The Warren Institute is working on a project evaluating the cost of wrongful convictions to the state of California. Law students will investigate case information, analyze court documents, and assist with the creation & maintenance of a wrongful conviction database. Familiarity with criminal law or criminal procedure would be helpful. Students will be helping to build a database of real cases in which felony convictions have been reversed, as well as researching and brainstorming ways in which the data can be used to support policy change in California.

See the project website: http://www.law.berkeley.edu/cawrongfulconviction.htm

The California Wrongful Convictions Project has paid full and part-time summer positions available. Hours are flexible and can be for all or part of the summer. Work on the project may be eligible for the Boalt Hall Summer Fellowship Pro Bono hours (Edley Hours).

To apply for a GSR position, please forward a resume and cover letter to Elaine Mui at emui@law.berkeley.edu.

For more information on the Warren Institute, please visit our website: www.warreninstitute.org

Narcel Reedus’s documentary “Not Home” will be shown on Tuesday March 19, 5pm, with a talk by the filmmaker, at UC Berkeley, Wheeler Auditorium. The documentary follows four people, two young people and two parents, exploring how parents of medically-fragile children (especially but not exclusively in poor families, many of them families of color) feel forced to make the decision to institutionalize their child because some states disproportionately allocate funding for brick and mortar institutions rather than the less expensive home and community based living. Sponsored by UCB’s Disability Studies Research Cluster, Diversity and Health Disparities Research Cluster, and UC Berkeley School of Law. Wheelchair accessible. For disability accommodation, contact sschweik@berkeley.edu.

The Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy (BCLBE) is looking to hire two Berkeley Law students for summer fellowships. BCLBE Research Fellows will write for the BBLJ/BCLBE blog, The Network, a daily publication that focuses on financial regulation, financing innovation, and international capital markets. Additionally, fellows will seek content and opinions on current business law related developments from professors and practitioners. Fellows also will work with The Network senior editors on developing the content and style for the blog. The fellowship is a great opportunity for students to develop their writing skills while learning and publishing about exciting areas of business law. The Network is found at http://thenetwork.berkeleylawblogs.org/.

The fellowship pays standard GSR rates for up to twenty hours per week. Students with other research assistant arrangements within the law school are encouraged to apply, as this fellowship may be used to supplement these positions.

Interested students should submit their resume to: BCLBE@law.berkeley.edu with Summer Network GSR in the subject line.
