We will be switching shortly to a new message board at:

http://www.thetrailblog.com/?p=634

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Snow accumulation: 10 inches*–4′ overall

The snow gauge is showing a 2 inch snowfall overnight but that is misleading. The gauge is in a protected area. High winds have been blowing the snow around so it is accumulating in open areas. I was out this morning and found a consistent 4 inch accumulation in the seven mile drive I took on unplowed roads. Gosh, what a treat!

The groomers are out there today and hope you are too.

VIA CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
http://www.cadillacwinterpromotions.org/trailconditions.html

What a great weekend for riding! We headed up Wednesday & rode nearly perfect trails on Thursday & Friday - thanks groomers!!!! Saturday got a little rough as expected. Coming out of the Lost Pine Lodge area headed to Cadillac we came up on a group of 5 "conservation officers". We found it interesting that the "conservation officers" don't have to follow the rules of the road! Hmmm...they were going well over the posted speed limit on Pole Road as they were heading back to a central location to meet up with several other officers! I could have excused it if they were on their way to assist at an emergency...but that was obviously NOT the case as we rode past their huge group at their staging area. Very disappointing! I wonder if they would have given us a ticket if we would have tried to keep up with them?? We are trying to teach our children the trail & safety rules...only to have to explain that apparently those who are supposed to uphold the law, don't necessarily have to obey those laws too! Hoping the snowmobile safety course that we are taking our kids to isn't being presented by any of those 5 officers!

Cadillac Area Trail Report - 02/02

Wednesday, February 2, 2011
Snow Accumulation: 20 inches

UPDATE:: Just received a report from two groomers one on the White Pine Trail and the other on the in-town trail indicating there was at least a foot of new snow on the trails today. They both said there was more snow than they knew what to do with. How great is that!!

The snow gauge shows a 6 inch snow fall last night but when you see what the high winds can do with that 6 inches you would think we got 2 foot in places. Area schools are closed today and people are encouraged to stay off the roads. The only place to be today in on your snowmobile enjoying this new powder. All our groomers will be running two routes daily in preparation for the North American Snow Festival this weekend in Cadillac. Ride safely.

VIA CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
http://www.cadillacwinterpromotions.org/trailconditions.html

Cadillac Area Trail Report - 01/28

Friday, January 28, 2011
Snow Accumulation: 12 inches*

There is plenty of snow on the trails and in the woods. The Caberfae area has a base of 6 inches, the Pine River Area a base of 5 inches and the Hobart area (north end of the White Pine Trail--2 inches). All three groomers have been running two routes daily to keep the corners cut down and the trails smooth. As of this morning there is very little snirt. That may change as the weekend and heavy sled trafffic stirs some up. There is some snow in for forecast for us. We're hoping we get it as we have had very little fresh snow lately. Just a little dusting each day. The snow at the snow gauge is compacting. It certainly isn't melting.

VIA CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
http://www.cadillacwinterpromotions.org/trailconditions.html

FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Thursday–February 4, 2010

All 4 of the groomers are running their regular and extra routes Thursday through Sunday to keep the trails in as good as shape as possible. The trails remain at about a 8 on a scale of 1-10. The RR grades have some bare spots (wind blew the snow off) but they are short and only a few of them. The tight, twisty sections in the woods are thin but snow covered. The wide open forest and seasonal roads are smooth, snow covered ice and flat. ALL trails are very rideable and will not damage the sleds. Use extreme caution this weekend due to all of the ice (there were at least 3 accidents last weekend) and all of families and large groups that will be on the trails Friday-Sunday.

The route from Lake Mitchell’s west end to Pole Road (Hemlock Park) is CLOSED. The suggested routes out of the Cadillac "West" area is to follow the trail along M-115 south east to 44Rd and then the White Pine Trail south, OR go west along M-55, (follow the trail signs), cross M-55 at the Gas Station and follow the signs along Pole Road and 27 Rd to the start of the groomed trail. The 2nd route is through a residential area: Go Slow and RESPECT PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Snow gauge*: 4 inches

NW Michigan Sledhead.... From -- http://www.thetrailblog.com/?p=634

WD40

I have lived in Cadillac, and near the Mis-Kal trail between Lake City and Kalkaska. I am not aware of a connecting trail, but would like to see this, especially since the Mis-Kal connects to Mackinaw.
You would need to map out secondary (dirt) roads between Mesick and the snowmobile bridge over the Manistee river just north of Manton. There is another bridge over the Manistee south of Kingsley. From Cadillac, you can map out dirt roads past Meawataka (spelling?), heading north to Manton. Someone living in Manton may be able to answer this better. I hope this helps. WD

 FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Tuesday--February 2, 2010

The trails remain in great shape and it looks like they could remain that way throughout the week if our weather pattern stays the course. Temperatures remain below freezing and the snow machine spits out snow every now and then but not great accumulation is forecasted. At least three groomers are out every day with some groomers doing two routes each day.

Sure hope you are headed this way for the North American Snow Festival scheduled to start Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with Opening Ceremonies at the Armory immediately followed by the Chili Cook-Off. For more details about the event check out the NASF link.

The trails will be busy this weekend so keep safety and fun foremost on your mind as you enjoy this special weekend in the Cadillac area.

Snow gauge*: 3 1/4 inches

I was hoping one of you could give me some advice. We have a group of riders coming from Irons and a group of riders coming from Kalkaska. Where would be a good spot to meet for lunch? I was thinking somewhere around Mesick or North, but am not sure where the trails go once you go accross 115. If there is a better spot, please let me know. We are hoping to connect for lunch on the Saturday 5th. Thanks in advance.

 FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Saturday evening–January 30, 2010

Three groomers were out today and report the trails are in suprisingly good shape…most are about an 8 out of 10. The Boon groomer did Trail 37 south, while the 8920 groomed Trails 6, 376, 677, 687, 638 and the 7920 groomed Trail 35 east from Fairchild (Nigger) Creek to Hobart then Trail 5 North to McGuires then Trail 5 south to LeRoy. There is an ice base on all trails and light snow covering throughout the entire system. The absence of snirt is quite amazing. It is frozen solid and the trails are white. There are a few “chatter bumps” in some places the groomers can’t get out. Fortunately they aren’t deep and they aren’t throughout the entire system.

Snow gauge*: 3 inches
