Wasn't expecting much from this movie but as it turned out, it was a pretty decent one! It has a good concept and an equally good approach and feeling to it.

The movie has a very fresh feeling to it. I won't say that this movie has a terribly original or complicated story but fact is that it handles everything very well and in an effectively way. It creates suspense, builds up tension and just basically handles all of its thriller and mystery elements very well.

The movie even has a somewhat old fashioned horror tone and atmosphere to it, especially when it still looked like this movie was turning into a good old fashioned whodunit and featured a serial killer in it. As the movie progressed the story and approach of the movie sort of started to change and shift but that's not a complaint, since the movie remained a good and suspenseful one to watch, once the story started to shift a bit.

Granted that sometimes it takes awhile before something happens and it has a kind of slow buildup to it at the start but I just can't all this movie a boring one as well. Perhaps it's also thanks to the characters that this movie remains engaging, even when not an awful lot is happening in the story.

I have to give this movie lots of credit. I mean, this is the sort of movie that's almost entirely set in just a few small train compartments, with just an handful of characters involved. Yet it still manages to do and achieve a lot, with just its simple concept and its few characters who are in it.

Also despite the fact that this of course was a fairly cheap movie to make, it never has a cheap or B-movie like look and quality to it. It's a pretty good looking movie actually, with a nice and pleasant overall atmosphere to it. It isn't too heavy on its action but when it does feature some action, it's all some good looking and well done action as well!

A surprisingly good and enjoyable little movie to watch!

Normally these sort of movies can still make me laugh, no matter how bad and childish they are with all of its comedy. This movie...well, it's just a plain bad one!

All of the main characters in this movie are extremely obese, so of course the movie has a ton of fat and food jokes in it. Unfortunately that's about all this movie has to offer, so it's definitely a bit too much of an one note movie. Besides, nothing funny about using such a serious and big (no pun intended) problem as obesity, to get a few cheap laughs, like it's no big or serious issue at all.

At the start, the movie still makes some attempts to follow a plot but as the movie progresses it becomes more and more confusing and muddled. For most part, this movie isn't really following a main plot line and when it does, it too often doesn't make any logical sense. Even too much for a comedy of this sort. It believes that silly and nonsensical equals funny but the film-makers obviously still have a lot to learn about comedy.

Worst thing that could happen to any sort of comedy, is when it fails to be funny. It completely ruins the movie and destroys any sort of potential it still had in it. No matter how good the actors are, when the material is weak, your movie just isn't going to be funny. And that's definitely the case with this movie, with still as a difference that the actors in this movie aren't all that great either.

Highlights of these sort of comedies often are its cameos but even in this movie that's a bit of a disappointing and weak aspect. Eric Roberts is mostly annoying with his fake, lame accent and Tommy 'Tiny' Lister probably was the only remotely funny thing about this movie and he was only in it for like 30 seconds.

Good thing about the movie is that it never annoyed or angered me, so I'm not totally hating on it, or calling it a completely unwatchable one. It just happens to be so that it manages to get absolutely nothing right, which is making this a terribly ineffective comedy.

It was obvious what this movie was trying to achieve but in my eyes it failed miserably.

Yet again, here we have another one of those movies that features multiple different story lines, involving different characters, that are all intertwined. The story lines keep coming together, as the movie continues to tell the same story, seen from multiple different perspectives. It shows how certain choices could affect another person and an outcome of a situation. The so called ripple effect. That's all fine and good but the problem with each and every storyline in this movie is that they are all far from interesting or fun to watch.

It's all due to a combination of things. One are its characters. Absolutely none of them get properly developed, so why should you care about anyone in this movie? Another problem with the movie is that it's being a comedy, more than anything else really. Problem with that is that the movie just never is a funny- or very fun one to watch. All of the situations are highly improbable and at times it feels like the stories are going nowhere and just aren't moving forward anymore after a while. Besides, the way some of the stories are connected at times is all far from solid. The story approach doesn't really work out too well in this case. The movie is besides lacking a good clear point to its story. I just don't know what was supposed to be the moral of this movie and what I was supposed to take out of it

It makes this not only a very lacking movie but also a quite annoying one at times. Especially since it really seems to think that it's being a very clever and funny movie. Well, first of all, the concept and the approach of it all isn't all that terribly original and innovative anymore but secondly- and what's worse about it, is that the execution of it all is a far from effective one.

Because the storytelling is non-linear as well, it often jumps back and forth in time. This actually causes the movie to slow down and drag a bit, also since you already know everything that's eventually going to happen of course. It just doesn't change or adds all that much that the story gets told from different perspectives, since the movie never manages to becomes truly interesting with its story or engaging with any of its characters.

No, it doesn't matter that the likes of Christopher Walken are in this movie as well. I don't even understand why he said yes to this movie. Guess it was just a fast and simple paycheck for him or maybe he is friends with someone that was involved with this movie. Anyway, it's not like he is the main character of this movie, though of course he still gets advertised as such.

A poor genre effort.

This easily could have been a high profile movie. It basically had the right sort of actors and concept for it but nobody picked this movie up and it's not hard to see why really.

Having a good and potentially interesting concept is one thing but turning it into a decent and suspenseful movie is a whole other ballgame. This movie just never develops into something truly engaging, tense, mysterious or surprising to watch.

It's one of those movies that's mostly set at one location and to be frank, the movie started off promising as well. It showed plenty of potential with its concept and side-plots but the film-makers did absolutely nothing with it at all. You would expect this to be a movie with plenty of twists and turns in it, or one that plays mind-games with its two main characters but the movie as it is is actually being a pretty straightforward one with its story. What you see is what you are going to get and you shouldn't expect anything surprising or truly mind blowing of it.

That's the most disappointing aspect about this movie. Every time you are starting to believe that it's going to develop into something truly tense and original, it just stops and continues to do absolutely nothing. Watching Malin Akerman punching in a bunch of different random numbers is about the most exciting thing that this movie has to offer you. It doesn't elaborate enough on things and it never builds up toward any sort of all revealing or tense climax. This is also because of the movie its villains, who are hardly in it at all and their motives are never made fully clear. The whole movie you are trying to figure it what it is that these guys want exactly from our two main characters. You are waiting for answers, that this movie just never provides.

No, it's not like this is the worst of most boring movie you could ever watch. It luckily mostly is too short for that and the movie as it is still remains a good looking one. Technically not an awful lot wrong with this movie. It has decent cinematography, editing and action in it, as well as some pretty good actors. It's also definitely a watchable enough movie but it starts to run out of steam, before it even reaches the hour mark. By the end of it, there is also just absolutely no way that you could say that this is a very good movie, that surprised or impressed you.

Not the worst movie you could watch but you're definitely still better off skipping it.

It's actually pretty fun to watch the evolution of dance movies, over the decades. And I have to say; "Breakin'" seemed pretty ahead of its time with its approach and concept and actually feels very similar to the genre movies of this present day. But is it a good movie as well? I'm still not really sure about that.

On the one hand it's a totally silly and simplistic movie but on the other it exploits its concept- and uses its genre elements well. It's an effective movie, with what it's trying to achieve. I'm pretty sure that this must have been a pretty popular movie at the time of its initial release. An alternate title of this movie is "Breakdance: The Movie" and that pretty much also already tells you what this movie is all about. Break dancing was pretty hot and popular at the time of this movie, so i'm sure lots of people must have been very excited seeing a movie, based around this 'new' and all hot dance style.

There really isn't all that much to its story and it all feels very underdeveloped. Yes, even for a dance movie. Of course all dance movies basically feature a similar sort of concept and characters in it but at least there always is a clear point- and goal in it. In this movie there isn't a clear enough goal really. I guess it's about making it as a dancer but I don't really see how joining a street dance-crew could help your career to move forward and to eventual get a decent paying job in the industry as a dancer. Well, guess I'm just over-thinking things. Perhaps you should just look at it as one that's about living your dream and do the things you like to do and listen to heart and all that sort of stuff.

I'm pretty sure this movie gave me an headache though. Not because of its complicated story but because it's a very loud movie, with constantly '80's music booming in the fore- and background. Really no awesome sounding musical numbers in this movie, though in the '80's people would have probably disagreed with me on that. I'm just not a big '80's music fan and it all starts to sound alike in the movie after a while.

It's funny how all of the dancing doesn't impress much neither. basically the dancers are just flapping their arms a bit, move as robots and spin on their heads, from time to time. When you start to compare it to the stuff we get to see on TV and in movies nowadays, everything in this movie feels somewhat lame and tame as well. Perhaps it's not entirely fair to judge this movie its dancing by today's standards but it's somewhat inevitable. I'm mean, this movie is really a product of its time and it's hard to look at it and not to laugh or at least chuckle at some of the character's clothing, hairstyles and music and dancing.

But perhaps its style and approach is also what saves this movie. Because it constantly features music and lots of (random) dance sequences, you sort of tend to forget the movie its story. It obviously also never feels like a slow or boring one, due to its approach.

It's pretty entertaining for what it is, just not a movie that's going to blow you away with anything. Not even with its bright colors and '80's soundtrack!

Modern horror movies aren't exactly known for their quality and true creativity and it are formulaic movies such as this one that are starting to give the genre a truly bad name!

Absolutely nothing special, original, shocking, surprising, tense, interesting or effective about this movie. I'm even somewhat reluctant to call this a horror movie. Sure, it has the typical buildup and atmosphere to it but there is far too little happening in it to consider this movie to be a full blown horror, that the lovers of the genre could enjoy.

I'm OK with slower type of genre movies, that keep building up, rather than constantly throwing disturbing or scary stuff at you but the movie needs to at least give me something to stay remotely interested in it and to make me want to keep on watching. This movie just never gives you any reason why you should keep on watching, so why should you bother with it?

So, weird things start to happen and strange ghostly figures start to appear, once a young couple and their baby move in to a remote house, somewhere in the middle of nowhere in the woods (surprise, surprise!). But what do our main characters do? Absolute nothing! They don't talk about it, they don't investigate. They do absolutely nothing to make sense of things or try to find some answers and come up with any solutions.

There where so many directions they could have taken the story in but the movie just never makes any real choices with anything. By the end of it, the movie also by far leaves more questions than answers. It hardly explains anything at all. Very annoying and disappointing, especially once you have struggled your way through this movie, only to find out that the ending isn't exactly a very rewarding one, or one that explains everything. Actually, the movie will most likely leave you confused and maybe even angry as well.

Just don't bother with this one.

An action flick based around the financial crisis? Sure, leave it up to Uwe Boll to come up with a thing like that!

This is an Uwe Boll movie, so lots of people are going to jump on it, regardless of its quality or intentions. But in all fairness and objectivity, is it truly a bad movie? It's a pretty dumb and maybe even borderline offensive movie but it most certainly is far from a terrible movie as well!

It's a pretty ridicules movie but no more than most other low budget genre flicks. The only main downside of the movie is that it's made hard at times to get behind the movie its main character. After all, he goes on a violent streak against bankers, who no doubt all had normal lives outside of their work and a wife and kids back at home. Seems maybe like Uwe Boll has a personal beef against the financial world or perhaps has lost lots of money during the crisis and with this movie he is venting his anger or living his fantasy, of wanting to seriously hurt those who are responsible for the situation, in his eyes and mind. The movie tries to justify things by portraying the bankers as James Bond type of villains but it's not really something that works out very convincing.

Or perhaps you should simply see this movie as a modern exploitation flick, that uses a much talked about and still relevant subject, lots of people can recognize themselves in and have a strong opinion about. And perhaps that's also the best way to look at this movie. Fore if most definitely isn't ever going for a too realistic approach with its story or violence either. You also don't feel that the movie is trying to make a true statement against anything or has a deeper sort of meaning to it.

Another silly thing about the story is that basically every sequences involves something that's related to the financial crisis. Every 'good' character gets hit by the crisis and every 'bad' character makes sure they get hit even harder, once they start to get up again. Seriously, everything about this movie feels heavily exaggerated and there's nothing too realistic or convincing about its main story, which to me is another indication not to take this movie too seriously either.

But in all truth, this movie just never becomes a truly bad one. It actually has a pleasant feel and pace to it. Sure, it doesn't begin violent or action packed and the movie takes its time to set its story and characters up at first but still the movie never drags or becomes a boring one. You also don't feel that the action enters the movie too late. The buildup to it is pretty good and effective, so it never feels like you are watching a slow or boring movie here. So yes, I actually have to say that Uwe Boll did some good things with his directing of this movie, as weird and as improbable that may sound.

I also liked some of the acting. Dominic Purcell perhaps isn't all that great, especially not when he is required to have and show emotions but other actors such as John Heard, Eric Roberts, Edward Furlong and Keith David are pretty good and enjoyable in this.

It's a good enough movie but obviously also nothing more than that. Just give this movie a fair shot. You actually could end up liking it.

Fast & Furious 6 (2013) Directed by Justin Lin

It's good to see that the series is improving and maturing with basically every new movie but it still has a long road to go!

Maybe, just maybe this is my favorite movie out of the series, as of yet. Reason why I liked it was because it had some more depth and decent emotions to it, as the characters have clearly matured more over the past few years.

As an action movie, it's on to par as well with other modern recent genre flick, such as "A Good Day to Die Hard", "The Expendables" movies and "Olympus Has Fallen", just to name a random few, that come to mind. Movies that are not all that great story-wise but still movies that serve their purpose and beside offer some well executed and fine looking action moments in it. Movies that still have plenty wrong with them but remain watchable enough ones, for what they are.

And sure, once you really start analyzing this movie, it's a pretty far fetched and dumb one, that often doesn't make any sense but if you decide to just go along with it, chances are you will be having a pretty good time with it. It doesn't really ever slow down and features plenty of (long) action sequences in it to enjoy. And no, not just car related stuff but plenty of other action elements as well.

Still it seems obvious to me that the writers for these movies are constantly struggling to find a way to incorporate all of the many different characters in the movie and give them something useful and interesting to do. Half of the characters who appear in this movie could have easily been left out and it wouldn't have changed the movie its story or main plot. It's just to please the fans of the series and I'm just not a big fan at all. I would have preferred seeing the movie focus better and more on just two or three characters, instead of a whole group of people, who I can't even remember the names of.

It's also getting somewhat annoying to see how characters keep changing alliances in the series. Good guys turning bad, bad guys turning good. Good guys helping out bad guys, bad guys helping out good ones. make up your mind already! And when someone dies in one movie, stop bringing them back for the sequels, especially when their death left no room or whatsoever for any form of debate or doubt.

I have to say that Dwayne Johnson is a truly great addition to the franchise, as he already showed before in the previous installment; "Fast Five". I truly hope he'll take over the whole franchise one day and become the one main focus of it. He's charismatic, he's funny and he of course handles all of the action very well. Besides, he's truly turning into a pretty good actor as well, much better than Vin Diesel anyway. It's also enjoyable to see Jason Statham as the main villain in this but they truly could and should have used him better and some more at times.

A silly and most certainly not great movie but it's good enough for what it is!

Beautiful Creatures (2013) Directed by Richard LaGravenese

If this was supposed to be a fantasy movie than I have to say that it absolutely failed at it!

No, I'm not saying that this is a terrible movie but as a fantasy movie it's a terribly lacking one, that's taking on a totally wrong approach and is lacking a good visual style and atmosphere to it.

That's really the biggest problem of the movie; it just never ever looks or feels like a fantasy movie. Not sure what the film-makers were trying to achieve but it seems to me that they tried to create a fantasy movie that was set in the real world, with also a realistic feeling to it, till a certain extend of course. The first half of the movie definitely appears like a very dry and serious one and there is not much about that indicates that this movie is going to turn into a full blown fantasy flick at one point.

The visually style feels all wrong. This isn't a very lively or fun looking movie. It feels mostly cold, bleak and lifeless instead (and not in a Gothic type of way), no matter how great some of the characters actually are. You really feel that with a different director, who is capable of delivering a movie with a more distinctive and effective visual style, this movie could have been a much better and also definitely far more entertaining one.

The movie as it is is even somewhat boring and slow at parts, especially at the start of it. The second half of the movie is better, mostly because there is more happening in it but it still isn't enough to fully save this movie. Especially not when the movie starts to go overboard with its fantasy elements. Seriously, from being a very dry and serious one the movie suddenly started to turn into a very over-the-top and silly one. The contrast of it was a big too great, if you would ask me and it didn't really worked out that well. I actually started to loose interest in the movie, once it kept throwing all sorts of different fantasy elements and fancy looking special effects at me.

But oh well, there still are some good things about the movie as well. As I mentioned before, it has some pretty good characters in it and some fine dialog as well. The acting is besides pretty good, with fine actors such as Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis and Emma Thompson involved but also some unknown and young ones. The main roles are played by the young Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich and they certainly did a pretty job with their roles. The only complaint about it is that their characters are supposed to be some 15 and 16-year old's, while they actually in fact look closer to their 20's. But that of course isn't anything unusual for a big budget movie of this sort.

The movie and its concept clearly showed plenty of potential but the end result is a pretty lacking- and just not all that entertaining fantasy flick, aimed mostly toward teenagers and young adults.

After a kind of slow and not all that interesting start, this movie luckily redeems itself in its second half!

I wasn't really liking where this movie was heading at at first with its story. The way the story got told made it seem like this was some sort of anti-prescript drugs movie, as if the director Steven Soderbergh had a personal beef against the pharmaceutical companies and psychiatrist who are happy to prescribe all kinds of drugs to their patients, no matter what side effects they might cause. But no, as it turned out this movie was actually about more than just that and it luckily started to develop a better and more engaging storyline for the second half of the movie.

At first it seemed that the Jude Law character was going to be a pretty redundant one but as it turned out, it actually in the end was more or less his movie. He becomes the center of attention, once certain plot lines start to develop. This is also when the movie truly starts to get interesting and the movie decides to keep throwing some nice twists and turns at you.

The movie is still lacking a certain punch to it, to ever truly impress but the movie as it is still works out fine as an original and interesting enough little thriller. It's certainly different from the usual genre attempt, so if you have grown tired of watching big, slick and formulaic Hollywood genre movies, this is a great alternative for you!

Thing this movie fails at though is making you truly feel involved with anything or anyone. The characters are lacking a certain depth to them, to make you feel truly involved with any of them and care about their faith and the eventual outcome of this movie. emotionally this just isn't a very good drama but luckily the thriller elements still work out well enough, so it sort of makes up for things.

Of course another thing that this movie has obviously going for it is its acting. Rooney Mara is especially great and I also really liked Jude Law in his role. It still seems like a weird choice to cast Channing Tatum in any sort of dramatic role but luckily he never becomes the main focus of this movie, so he doesn't really get to 'ruin' anything.
