When I first saw this photo, I gasped wanting these knee high boots. When I looked closer I noticed that they are in fact ice skate boots! Look at the blade!

My View: The Artist

I went to see The Artist over the weekend. It is one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. Filmed in black and white, The Artist is a romantic comedy about a silent film star whose career goes down the drain when talkies become popular. Brilliantly, the movie itself is a silent movie complete with raised eyebrows, title cards, and amazing music.

Of course the dashing late 1920's / early 1930's costumes are worth seeing this film alone. I now want to wear flapper dresses and take tap dance lessons!

I love everything about this campaign and I can't wait to see the collection when it hits the stores. Prada continues on with it's retro inspiration and lady like looks. The prints are lovely, the handbags luscious, and the hair and styling spot on!

2011: Down Memory Lane

The end of the year is always a reflective time. Take a ride with me down the Bobbins And Bombshells Memory Lane as I share with you my favorite posts of 2011 broken down by category. I'd love to know what your favorites were ( click on the category picture to see past posts) and what you'd like to see more of in 2012.

My favorite project this year was of course the one that took me the longest to make. I am so grateful to be able to knit, crochet and sew again after my hand injury that I called this scarf the "Back to Knitting Scarf" and essentially re-taught myself. I made it for my husband, and being the sweetie he his, he loves it despite all of the imperfections.

I love to share my vintage finds with you all almost as much as I love to vintage shop! My favorite purchase of 2011 was this little blue hat from Bombshell Bettie's.

I wore it to my wedding last May, (the highlight of my year!) as "something old and something blue."

I wasn't a big fan of hers until I saw Butterfield 8 years ago. With news of her death I revisited the always inspiring Elizabeth Taylor in her Oscar winning role.

My Projects: Striped Scarf Finished

You may remember when I started this striped Merino wool scarf for my sweet husband earlier this year. I finally finished it! Look how adorable he is in it.

It didn't come out as great as I would like, but he loves it anyway! I'm still in the learning/beginning phase. One of my resolutions for the new year is to dedicate more time to my projects so I can advance and build up speed. This took me way to long. But here it is, and I'm happy!

I went to see Jordan Harrison's new Off-Broadway play Maple and Vine yesterday at Playwrights Horizons here in NYC. If you are in town this month, I highly recommend it. Maple and Vine brings up a lot of questions about the times we live in. Were earlier more simpler times of the past, specifically 1955, really any easier? In some ways they were, and in some they weren't. This play answers this question in a very clever way. In a way it sheds more light onto today than it does on the past.

As a vintage lover, it was fun and interesting to see the modern day characters transform themselves into their new 1955 lives. But unlike many vintage lovers, I've never wished I lived in another time. I like my modern gadgets, more freedom in decisions, and as the play wonderfully points out, my sushi! I also love to wear vintage from any decade and not have to conform to a standard look. What Maple and Vine so cleverly displays, is that living in the present is what is so important. To have responsibility for yourself and your community, like they did in 1955.
