The President said that India is undergoing a remarkable transformation, emerging as a global leader in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. We have seen significant success in renewable energy, digital technology, information technology, telecom, auto and auto-components, pharma and biotechnology, space and fintech. She stated that India is expected to become a 5 trillion dollar economy in the coming years, and we hope to do it in partnership with our friends, such as Slovakia.

The President said that the Slovakia-India Business Forum serves as an excellent platform to explore synergies and build mutually beneficial partnerships. She urged business leaders to seize the opportunities and turn them into tangible results. She expressed confidence that the deliberations at the Forum would lead to lasting partnerships.

In the subsequent engagement, the President visited the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, where she was conferred with Honoris Causa Doctorate degree in recognition of her distinguished career in public service and governance, advocacy for social justice and inclusion, and contribution towards education, women's empowerment and promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity.

In her acceptance speech, the President said that this is an honour, which is being bestowed upon a country, and civilization that has been a beacon of peace and learning since time immemorial. Receiving this degree from an institution named after the philosopher Saint Constantine Cyril, is especially meaningful.

The President said that education is a means not only for individual empowerment but for national development as well. Recognizing this, India has placed education at the heart of its national development strategy. With half of its population below the age of 25, India is investing in its youth to drive the knowledge economy of tomorrow.

The President said that even as India embraces modernity and technology, our progress remains deeply rooted in the wisdom of our ancient philosophical traditions. She stated that just as Saint Constantine Cyril’s work laid the foundation for Slavic linguistic and cultural identity, Indian philosophical traditions have long shaped the intellectual and spiritual fabric of our society.

Indian classical philosophy offers a rich and diverse exploration of reality, emphasizing introspection and ethical conduct. It highlights multiple perspectives and the importance of self-knowledge and inner experience. She was happy to note that the timeless wisdom of the Upanishads resonates in Slovakia too.

In the next engagement, the President, along with President Peter Pellegrini, visited the Jaguar Land Rover Factory in Bratislava and watched the manufacturing facilities of the plant.

Earlier in the morning, the President visited an exhibition of paintings by Slovak children. The Slovak-Indian Friendship Society, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, has been organizing the painting competition ‘Beauty Hidden in Fairy Tales - India through the Eyes of Slovak Children ' since 2015. She also witnessed a puppet show on Ramayan conducted by Ms. Lenka Mukova. Ms. Lenka is part of the Babadlo Puppet Theater in Presov, which has been educating children through puppetry for 30 years.

Yesterday evening (April 9, 2025), the President attended a banquet hosted in her honour by President Peter Pellegrini at the historic Bratislava Castle.

The Slovak artists presented captivating musical performances, including that of the National Anthem, signifying the strong cultural bond between the two countries during the banquet.

In her banquet remarks, the President thanked the Government and the people of Slovakia for the warm welcome and hospitality. President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, today, visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dholavira in Gujarat. The site is located on the arid island of Khadir in Kachchh district.

The president expressed great appreciation for the meticulous conservation efforts carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India to preserve the heritage of the Harappan Civilization despite the site's remote location.

Accompanied with Governor of Gujarat and other dignitaries, the President was deeply impressed by the sheer size and scale of Dholavira, noting that it would take at least three to four days to fully explore and understand the iconic site.

With its inscription in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 2021, Dholavira has gained international recognition attracting scholars, archaeologists and history enthusiasts from around the world.

GENERAL UPENDRA DWIVEDI, CHIEF OF THE ARMY STAFF EMBARKS ON AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO FRANCE

General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), departed on an official visit to France from 24 to 27 February 2025 as part of efforts to bolster India-France defence cooperation.

Gen U Dwivedi, Army Chief, Begins Official France Visit

On 24th February 2025, the COAS will engage with the senior military leadership of France at Les Invalides, Paris. The day will begin with a Guard of Honour followed by discussions with General Pierre Schill, CEMAT (Chef d'État-Major de l'Armée de Terre – the French Army Chief).

General Upendra Dwivedi France visit

The aim of the meeting will be to foster stronger military ties between the two nations. The itinerary also includes visiting the École Militaire, the prestigious Military School and Institution Complex in Paris, where the COAS will be briefed on Future Combat Command (CCF). Additionally, General Dwivedi will be briefed at the Technical Section of the French Army (STAT) and visit the Battle Lab Terre at Versailles.

On 25th February 2025, General Dwivedi will travel to Marseille, where he will visit the 3rd Division of the French Army and will be briefed on the mission and role of the 3rd Division, the bilateral exercise SHAKTI, India-France training cooperation, and the French Army modernisation programme (Scorpion). The following day, General Dwivedi will visit Carpiagne to witness a dynamic demonstration of the Scorpion Division with live firing exercises.

On 27th February 2025, the COAS will visit the Neuve Chapelle Indian War Memorial to lay a solemn wreath in honour of the fallen Indian soldiers who participated in World War I. Later in the day, he will deliver a talk at the École de Guerre, the French Joint Staff College, highlighting the evolving nature of modern warfare and India's strategic vision.

General Dwivedi’s visit aims to strengthen the military collaboration between India and France, exploring new avenues of cooperation and enhancing strategic partnerships between the two nations' armed forces.

Indian Railways taking Strict action against miscreants indulging in the acts of vandalism & destruction to railway property in all such cases

Indian Railways Takes Strict Action Against Miscreants

On 10th February 2025, some unruly passengers damaged 73 glass windows of AC Coaches of Train Number 12561 Swatantrata Senani Express (Ex. Jaynagar—New Delhi) at Madhubani Railway Station. This created panic and chaos amongst the railway passengers. Miscreants took advantage of the fact that there was no RPF or GRP post at Madhubani. After committing the act of causing damage to Railway property, the miscreants fled.

The Railway Protection Force

In response to this act of vandalism, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), East Central Railway took swift action by registering a case under Sections 145(b), 146, 153 & 174(a) of the Railways Act vide Crime No. 168/2025 at RPF Post/Darbhanga. A special team of RPF was constituted to identify the culprits and to bring them to justice.

During enquiry by the special team, information was gathered from sources and through technical evidence resulting in the identification and arrest of a juvenile, who was found to be involved in the incident. He has confessed his involvement in the incident and expressed remorse.

The investigation into the case is actively under way to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in similar incidents of vandalism. RPF is committed to taking strict action against the miscreants indulging in acts of destruction/ damage to railway property.

Railway property is a national asset

Railway property is a national asset, and any act of damaging railway property is illegal. RPF has made necessary security in coordination with the State Government and GRP authorities to ensure the safety and security of passengers and protect railway infrastructure.

While ensuring security to the Passengers with utmost commitment, the RPF is also committed to taking strict action against those involved in such unlawful activities. We urge the public to refrain from engaging in unlawful activities and acts which jeopardize public safety.

Section 153 of the Railways Act, 1989 states that anyone who endangers the safety of a person traveling on a railway can be punished with up to five years in prison. This includes obstructing or attempting to obstruct railway rolling stock.

Strict action against offenders,

Section 174(a) of the Railways Act, 1989 covers the offence of obstructing a train or other rolling stock. The penalty for an offence under Section 174(a) is imprisonment for up to two years, a fine of up to two thousand rupees, or both.

Thousands of migratory birds from over 10 countries, including Siberia, Mongolia, and Afghanistan, have arrived at the banks of the Ganga-Yamuna in Prayagraj, attracting tourists with their unique flights and group migration patterns.

Arvind Kumar Yadav, DFO Prayagraj, mentioned that the festival will not only be for entertainment but will also play a crucial role in the campaign for environmental balance and biodiversity conservation. In line with the Prayagraj Mela administration's directive, a special eco-tourism plan has been prepared for the devotees. They will be able to experience bird watching and learn about the importance of natural habitats. Through bird walks and nature walks with experts, devotees will have the opportunity to understand birds' behaviour, migration journeys, and their role in the ecosystem closely.

INAUGURAL EDITION OF THE INDIAN NAVY HALF MARATHON

The inaugural edition of the Indian Navy Half Marathon was conducted on 02 Feb 25 in New Delhi. The event witnessed more than 10,000 participants competing across three race categories: 21.1 km, 10 km, and 5 km runs, making it an inclusive event for runners of all calibers and backgrounds.

The flagship races—21.1 km and 10 km runs—were flagged off by the Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Dr Mansukh L Mandaviya, in the presence of the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff, Chief of the Air Staff, senior services, and civilian dignitaries.

The event was hosted at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with the race route covering India Gate and the historic Kartavya Path and delivered a well-planned and unforgettable experience for all participants.

मुख्य बदलाव:

आधार लिंकिंग अनिवार्य: सभी राशन कार्ड धारकों के लिए अपने कार्ड को आधार से लिंक करना अनिवार्य कर दिया गया है। यह कदम फर्जी राशन कार्डों को रोकने और लाभार्थियों की सही पहचान सुनिश्चित करने के लिए उठाया गया है। आधार लिंकिंग से डुप्लिकेट राशन कार्डों पर रोक लगेगी, लक्षित वितरण में सुधार होगा, और भ्रष्टाचार में कमी आएगी।

डिजिटल राशन कार्ड की शुरुआत: पारंपरिक कागजी राशन कार्ड की जगह डिजिटल राशन कार्ड की शुरुआत की गई है। यह एक स्मार्ट कार्ड होगा जिसमें लाभार्थी की सभी जानकारी डिजिटल रूप में संग्रहित होगी। डिजिटल राशन कार्ड के फायदे हैं: आसान अपडेशन और रखरखाव, कम कागजी कार्रवाई, तेज और सटीक सत्यापन।

'वन नेशन, वन राशन कार्ड' का पूर्ण कार्यान्वयन: इस योजना के तहत, कोई भी राशन कार्ड धारक देश के किसी भी हिस्से में अपने कोटे का राशन प्राप्त कर सकेगा। यह प्रवासी श्रमिकों को विशेष रूप से सुविधा प्रदान करेगा, राशन वितरण में लचीलापन बढ़ेगा, और पोर्टेबिलिटी में वृद्धि होगी।

ई-केवाईसी अनिवार्य: सभी राशन कार्ड धारकों को ई-केवाईसी प्रक्रिया से गुजरना होगा। यह प्रक्रिया ऑनलाइन या नजदीकी राशन दुकान पर की जा सकेगी। ई-केवाईसी के चरण हैं: आधार नंबर प्रस्तुत करना, बायोमेट्रिक सत्यापन, फोटो अपलोड, और व्यक्तिगत जानकारी की पुष्टि।

बायोमेट्रिक सत्यापन के साथ राशन वितरण: राशन वितरण के समय बायोमेट्रिक सत्यापन अनिवार्य होगा। इससे यह सुनिश्चित होगा कि राशन सही व्यक्ति को मिल रहा है। बायोमेट्रिक सत्यापन के तरीके हैं: फिंगरप्रिंट स्कैनिंग, आइरिस स्कैन, और चेहरे की पहचान।

राशन की मात्रा में बदलाव: सरकार ने राशन कार्ड पर मिलने वाले गेहूं और चावल की मात्रा को संशोधित किया है। सामान्य राशन कार्ड धारकों के लिए चावल की मात्रा 3 किलो से घटाकर 2.5 किलो कर दी गई है, जबकि गेहूं की मात्रा 2 किलो यथावत रखी गई है। अंत्योदय राशन कार्ड धारकों के लिए चावल 21 किलो से घटाकर 18 किलो और गेहूं 14 किलो से बढ़ाकर 17 किलो किया गया है।

राशन कार्ड रहित वितरण प्रणाली: 1 जनवरी 2025 से, राशन कार्ड की भौतिक प्रति की आवश्यकता नहीं होगी। लाभार्थियों को बिना किसी कार्ड के अपना राशन प्राप्त करने की अनुमति होगी। इसके लिए लाभार्थियों को अपनी पहचान सत्यापित करने के लिए आधार कार्ड या बायोमेट्रिक डेटा का उपयोग करना होगा।

नए नियमों का प्रभाव:

लाभार्थियों पर प्रभाव: नए नियम लाभार्थियों के लिए कई सकारात्मक बदलाव लाएंगे:

Safety Mauni Amavasya: 300 Doctors Deployed in Mahakumbh

On the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, the Uttar Pradesh government deployed over 1,000 medical personnel in Mahakumbh Nagar, keeping in mind the safety and health of the devotees. Modern medical facilities have been provided in every sector of Mahkumbh, with arrangements in place for minor operations to major surgeries.

In Mahakumbh Nagar, 300 specialist doctors have been stationed at the Super Speciality Hospital, ready to handle any emergency situation. So far, over 2 lakh patients have benefitted from OPD services at central and other hospitals, and more than 2.5 lakh pathology tests have been conducted.

Easily Accessible Health Services

Dr. Gaurav Dubey, the nodal medical officer for the Mahakumbh Mela, stated that devotees from across the country and abroad are receiving medical care in Mahakumbh Nagar. The government has taken all possible measures to make the Mela safe and healthy with modern medical facilities.

Further, with the support of the government, saints from monasteries, temples, and akhadas are also helping devotees with medicines and tests. These saints are organizing various camps, through which devotees are being provided with Ayurvedic, Homeopathic treatment and medicines.

A special celebration of the 76th Republic Day was held today during the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025, in the holy city of Prayagraj. Many pilgrims arrived at the Sangam to take a holy dip in this unique festival of faith and devotion.

This Republic Day, the Mahakumbh fair area and the Akharas were seen immersed in the colours of Indian nationalism. Flag hoisting ceremonies were held at the Akharas of saints, the camps of the devotees, and even at the temporary fair offices set up by various government departments.

The participation of senior citizens in Mahakumbh city filled the Republic Day celebrations with pride. Additionally, the government organized flag hoisting programs at the special camps and old age homes set up in the Mahakumbh fair area.

These camps serve as shelters for senior citizens, allowing them to visit the Mahakumbh and take the holy dip at the Sangam without any hassle.

On this occasion, a special scene unfolded at the Social Welfare Department’s camp. Seventy-year-old Munni Devi, who had come from the old age home in Mirzapur, hoisted the flag.

Mahakumbh is not only a festival of faith

This moment was not only emotional but also symbolized that Mahakumbh is not only a festival of faith but also a celebration of participation from all sections of society. The presence of senior citizens like Munni Devi made this day even more special.

This year, the Uttar Pradesh government introduced a special initiative. An ashram with a 100-bed capacity has been established in the Kumbh area for senior citizens living in old age homes.

This ashram has been specifically built for elderly people who wish to take the holy dip at the Sangam but may face difficulty in travelling or bathing. So far, around 450 senior citizens from different parts of the State have reached Mahakumbh and taken a dip in the Sangam.

During the event, patriotic songs were performed at various Akharas, government offices, and social service organization camps in Mahakumbh city. Yoga sessions were also organized, with all attendees participating. The yoga practice energized the Mahakumbh event both physically and mentally.

The celebration of Republic Day at the Mahakumbh not only became a symbol of nationalism and unity but also proved that the Mahakumbh is not just a religious festival but a unique opportunity to unite all sections of society.

Streamlining Devotee Travel: Indian Railways Adds 137 Kumbh Special Trains

The Railways is committed to ensuring that devotees going to ongoing Mahakumbh do not face any inconvenience. 137 additional trains operated or are being run today to help devotees across the country to reach Prayagraj besides 349 regular trains.

The number of passengers at Prayagraj stations in the first two days exceeded 15 lakh 60 thousand. These trains include trains bringing people from faraway places to participate in Kumbh and ring rail services offering point-to-point connectivity to devotees so they can also go to nearby temple towns like Chitrakoot, Ayodhya and Varanasi.

Indian Railways intends to operate more than 13,100 trains during the 46-day-long Mahakumbh for the convenience of devotees. Out of them, more than 10,000 regular trains and over 3,100 special trains are being run. The number of special trains is 4.5 times higher compared to the previous Kumbh. Of these, 1,800 trains are for short distances and 700 trains for long distances.

Prayagraj Welcomes 15 Lakh Devotees in Two Days: Railways Meets the Challenge

Indian Railways is also operating 560 trains on four different routes through ring rail connecting Prayagraj. The routes are Prayagraj-Ayodhya-Varanasi-Prayagraj, Prayagraj-Sangam Prayag-Jaunpur-Prayag-Prayagraj, Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Chitrakoot-Govindpuri and Jhansi-Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Manikpur-Chitrakoot-Jhansi routes.

On the second day of Mahakumbh, more than 3.5 crore devotees rushed to the Mahakumbh Mela not only from different parts of the country but also from the world. To improve the rush situation, different railway divisions are running more pairs of special trains from various stations in the country for the Mahakumbh. In the coming days, more than 15 pairs of trains will be run from various stations in the Bhopal division for the Maha Kumbh.

For the convenience of passengers, the railways have developed 9 railway stations around Mahakumbh. Prayagraj, Phaphamau, Rambag, and Jhunsi yards have been remodelled to allow more trains to operate from Prayagraj.

17 New Yatri Ashrayas Increase Waiting Capacity to Over 1 Lakh at Prayagraj Stations

Subedarganj station has been developed as a satellite station to afford Prayagraj Junction which alone handled 45% of the Mela crowd in last Kumbh of 2019. 7 new platforms have been constructed at the stations in the Prayagraj area. Now 48 platforms are available at 9 stations in the Prayagraj area.

Railways have made adequate arrangements for waiting passengers. 17 New permanent Yatri Ashryas are operational in the region. With this total no. of Yatri Ashryas at railway stations has become 28. As a result, the holding capacity of these Yatri Ashryas has increased from 21,000 to more than one lakh ten thousand.

In preparation for the massive influx of devotees during Mahakumbh, the Railway has introduced a systematic colour-coding scheme for Yatri Ashrayas at various stations. This initiative aims to improve passenger convenience by streamlining navigation and facilitating better access to designated waiting areas.

Innovation Meets Tradition: Railways Introduces Face Recognition and Drone Surveillance

Additional toilets have been constructed at the railway stations. Adequate drinking water arrangements and food arrangements are being made at each and every station. All the waiting rooms and lounges have been upgraded.

Yatri Suvidha Kendra has been launched at Prayagraj Junction and Prayagraj Chheoki for the first time which will facilitate the passengers with wheelchairs, luggage trolleys, hotel and taxi booking, providing medicines, baby milk and other essential items to passengers in the train.

So far, to secure the movement of devotees and trains, about 5900 security personnel, including 3,200 RPF personnel, were deployed across the nine railway stations in and around Prayagraj spanning the NCR, NER, and NR zones.

764 new CCTV cameras have been installed which has become a total of 1186 now. This includes 116 Face Recognition System (FRS) cameras which are being used first time to identify the miscreants. For the first time, drone cameras are being used for surveillance of track and monitoring of crowds on the approach roads to the stations.

India Conducts First-ever Ganges River Dolphin Tagging in Assam

Today marks a historic achievement in wildlife conservation as the first-ever Ganges River Dolphin (Platanista gangetica) has been tagged in Assam.

This initiative, conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), was implemented by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in collaboration with the Assam Forest Department and Aaranyak, with funding from the National CAMPA Authority.

This is the first tagging, not only in India, but also for the species, and this milestone is a significant advancement of Project Dolphin, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Given the paucity of information on Ganges River Dolphin habitat needs, movement patterns or home-range information, it was decided to undertake satellite tagging of dolphins in its distribution range.

A Healthy Male River

The first tagging took place in Assam, where a healthy male river dolphin was tagged and released under the utmost veterinary care. The tagging exercise will help understand their seasonal and migratory patterns, range, distribution, and habitat utilization, particularly in fragmented or disturbed river systems.

In a post on social media, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav said, Happy to share the news of the first-ever tagging of Ganges River Dolphin in Assam—a historic milestone for the species and India!

This MoEFCC and National CAMPA-funded project, led by the Wildlife Institute of India in collaboration with Assam Forest Dept and Aaranyak, will deepen our understanding of conserving our National Aquatic Animal.

The First-Ever Tagging of the Ganges River Dolphin in Assam

Happy to share the news of the first-ever tagging of the Ganges River Dolphin in Assam—a historic milestone for the species and India!

Under the umbrella of Project Dolphin, the MoEFCC has funded through the National CAMPA Authority, Wildlife Institute of India, to undertake comprehensive range-wide research to develop a conservation action plan and fill existing knowledge gaps for the long-term conservation of the species.

Given that Ganges River Dolphins are apex predators, and serve as umbrella species for the river systems, it is important to ensure their well-being, as it will ensure the sustenance of the entire river ecosystem.

The Evidence-Based Conservation Strategies

Director, WII, Shri Virendra R. Tiwari said, Tagging River Dolphins will contribute to evidence-based conservation strategies that are urgently needed for this species. I am delighted that this historic step has been undertaken.

Project investigator Dr Vishnupriya Kolipakam emphasized, This is a significant advancement in understanding the ecological needs of river dolphins, which will help conserve critical habitats within these vast river ecosystems. This is vital not only for aquatic biodiversity but also for sustaining thousands of people who depend on these resources.

The tagging was made possible by advancements in technology; the lightweight tags emit signals compatible with Argos satellite systems even with limited surfacing time and are designed to minimize interference with dolphin movement.

Plans are underway to extend this initiative to other states inhabited by Ganges River Dolphins to build a comprehensive understanding of their population dynamics and habitat requirements. This monumental effort underscores India’s unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation and sets a new benchmark in the protection of endangered species.

Considering the contribution to India’s independence movement, the freedom fighters' pension was revised on 15.08.2016. Further, the existing dearness relief system based on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial workers, which was hitherto applied to freedom fighters' pensions on an annual basis has been discontinued and replaced by dearness

allowance system applicable to Central Government employees twice a year. In addition to this, the following benefits are also extended to the freedom fighters:

Free lifetime railway passes of 2nd/3rdAC in Duronto, 1st class/2nd class AC by any train including Rajdhani/Shatabdi are provided to the Freedom Fighters/Spouse along with one companion in the same class.

Free medical facilities under CGHS

Free medical facilities under CGHS and free medical treatment in hospitals run by PSUs are provided to the Freedom fighters and eligible dependents.

Free transit stay with meal at State Bhawan, New Delhi for Freedom fighters and eligible dependents alongwith one companion.

Collectors/SDMs have been directed to regularly enquire about the well-being of the freedom fighters and resolve their pension-related issues.

The Pension Scheme

The following steps have been taken to streamline the application and disbursement process for the pension scheme, ensuring a seamless experience for the freedom fighters and their families namely:

After the death of the freedom fighter, the period of submission of application by the dependents to the banks for transfer of pension increased from six months to one year.

The date of Sanction/transfer of dependent pension to eligible dependents has been amended from the date of application to the date of death of the pensioner.

Pensioners are required to submit their life certificates to the banks once a year instead of twice a year.

The Stopped Pension

Banks have been authorized to restart the stopped pension due to delayed/ no submission of life certificates from the present 01 to 03 years.

Submission of Aadhar link Life Certificate through Jeevan Praman Portal has been started.

Freedom Fighters/dependents are notified through SMS for timely submission of life certificates.

Know Your Freedom Fighter/ Family (KYFF/F) forms were introduced for collecting updated information enabling efficient tracking and verification of beneficiaries under the Scheme.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

INDIAN NAVY HOSTS WORKSHOP ON GENDER SENSITISATION AND PREVENTION OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT WORKPLACE

Towards fostering inclusivity and promoting gender equality, the Directorate of Civilian Personnel, Naval Headquarters conducted a workshop on ‘Gender Sensitisation’ and ‘Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace’ for Naval Civilians on 12 Dec 24 at the Nau Sena Bhawan Auditorium, New Delhi.

The event was inaugurated by Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), as the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, Vice Admiral Sarin emphasized the importance of gender sensitisation in creating equitable workplaces and underscored the critical role of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, 2013, in ensuring safety and dignity for all employees.

The Workshop Commenced

The workshop commenced with an engaging session by Dr Shashi Bala, Senior Fellow, V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, Noida. She provided an insightful analysis of gender sensitisation and the societal dynamics influencing workplace interactions. Dr Bala also elaborated on the provisions of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act, 2013, emphasizing its significance in fostering a secure and inclusive workplace.

The second session, conducted by Dr. Tanushree, Director, Defence Headquarters Training Institute, New Delhi, featured real-life case studies and practical scenarios. Through an interactive approach, participants engaged in meaningful discussions, reflecting on gender-based challenges and exploring solutions to eliminate discrimination and bias.

The Valedictory Address

Delivering the Valedictory Address, Rear Admiral Aditya Hara, ACOP (AC) reaffirmed the Indian Navy’s steadfast commitment to upholding gender equality and fostering a workplace environment defined by safety, respect, and productivity. He also felicitated all the speakers.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from Naval Civilians representing all Commands and Naval Headquarters. This initiative forms part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts under the Year of Naval Civilians 2024, reinforcing its dedication to cultivating a welfare-oriented, progressive, and gender-sensitive workplace.

The day-long program showcased the Indian Navy’s commitment to building a modern and inclusive workforce, setting a benchmark for gender equity and professionalism across the Armed Forces.'

Rights for Fishermen over Marine Resources

Data on fishermen population in the country has been compiled in consultation with States/UTs Department of Fisheries and such data reveals that there are a total of 2,80,63,538 fishermen in the country. The state-wise details of the fishermen population are furnished as Annexure-I.

All the coastal states/Union Territories have already enacted their Marine Fishing Regulation Acts (MFRAs) / Marine Fishing Regulations to govern fishing activities within 12 nautical miles of territorial waters.

The coastal States/UTs through these MFRAs have earmarked the zones/sea areas reserved for fishing only by the traditional fishermen using non-motorized and motorized fishing boats, wherein mechanized fishing vessels are not allowed to fish, e.g., Gujarat has reserved the area up to 9 nautical miles from the shore, Goa has reserved the area up to 2.7 nautical miles from the coastline;

Karnataka has reserved the area up to 3.23 nautical miles from the shore or up to 4 fathoms (whichever is farther) for traditional crafts; Tamil Nadu and Odisha have reserved the areas up to 5 nautical miles for traditional non-mechanized boats, and Andhra Pradesh has reserved the area upto 4.3 nautical miles from the shore for traditional crafts.

This information was given by the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on 11th December 2024.
