I sent in my paperwork to be a vendor at the St. Joseph Garden Club’s Gardens Galore XVIII event. This is a rain or shine event, and last year we had both.

Happy Birthday to Me!

This is my first birthday after completing all of my major cancer treatments (I still have 4-1/2 years of a daily med to reduce my chance of it coming back – but I don’t really count that as an active treatment as I have almost no side effect from it).

So today I am celebrating by creating a special page on my site with items for sale that I love, and that my children love. My son picked the Spring Rain Glycerin Soap as his favorite – he uses it all the time in the shower.

Castile Handmade Soap on sale 50% off – wow!

I’m going to keep making Castile Handmade Soap, it’s the soap I use on my children, and the one that my brother in law loves.

So why do I have it on sale? It’s simple. I am no longer going to make Castile in 4 ounce bars, but am moving to 5 ounce bars so that all of my soaps have a uniform look. Because of that I’m selling my 4 ounce bars for an amazing $2.50 each!

It’s crazy, I know, but I need to make room for the 5 ounce bars when they come off the drying rack.

My Castile Handmade Soap is made from 100% olive oil in the European tradition. Many “Castile” soaps sold in the U.S. have olive oil in them, but are not 100% olive oil. We have no laws governing what can be called Castile soap, Europe is very strict about it.

100% olive oil Castile soap has small bubbles for lather. My bars are aged a long time which improves the hardness of the bars, but also improves the quality of the bubbles.

This soap has no fragrance or colors, so if those things irritate your skin this may be the soap for you. It’s gentle enough that I use it on my baby daughter when she needs soap during her bath, and it doesn’t bother her sensitive skin.

Some events charge a flat fee for a space, but this event is 20% of my sales go to the Immanuel Lutheran Church’s Ladies Aid Society – which is a worthy cause. So the more I sell the more they get and the more good they can do for the community. It’s a win-win!

Chai Tea Handmade Soap is made after my favorite tea. It’s made with real brewed black tea, cane sugar and organic cream and is then scented with Chai Tea fragrance oil. It smells divine!

Small Business Saturday – are you doing your part?

Today is the 2nd Annual Small Business Saturday which is a movement to encourage shoppers to support small business during this holiday season. While it does encourage people to shop at small brick and mortar stores, there are plenty of small business, such as mine, that have websites and no retail store.

I am, essentially, a one woman business. I get a small amount of help from my husband, sister, and a close friend for running shows, but the rest of the time I work on my own. It’s often a challenge, but I love the different experiences it allows me.

Taking a vacation – first one in 6 years!

On Thursday we are taking our fist vacation in 6 years. I am so excited.We are going on a cruise to the Bahamas and taking the kids and my sister. It’s a much-needed vacation after the rocky year we have had. The last time we were on a cruise was right before we conceived our son – so we feel like we were about due.

That means that the website will be up but I won’t be shipping orders placed from 11/09/11 until 11/22/11 – or the week of Thanksgiving.

That will still give you plenty of time place an order and receive it before Christmas or Hanukkah, don’t worry.

I won’t be checking emails until I get back, but know that I will dedicate plenty of time to it in the couple of days after I get back.

I had a great time yesterday at the Alameda Veteran’s Boutique yesterday. The customers were fun and friendly and the vendors there are always so nice. Being around nice vendors who help each other can really make the difference between and fun and a not so fun show.

I have lots of product left, and just finished labeling some custom orders that were placed yesterday.

But don’t worry. If you come today and place a custom order I can still fill it and get it to you in the next few days, depending on where you live.

I have added a few soaps to my Limited Edition line for this show, so you can still buy a soap and have a donation go to Project Open Hand who Providing Meals for Women undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer and people with other chronic illnesses.

I also have free gifts for those with Localize It! cards and those who mention this blog!
