Introducing : Levon Vincent

There was a time in the early-to-mid 1990s that New York was the epicentre of house music, a culmination of 20 years of deviant dancing in a city that was – according to Lou Reed - “sinking like a rock”. But it couldn’t last – as the city got cleaned up, the clubs disappeared, the labels folded, the record stores closed down. Some key names soldiered on, but the moment had more or less passed. The last 18 months have seen a flicker of something again – a new DIY East Coast sound, headed by DJ QU, Jus Ed and Fred P. Only this time – as Levon Vincent tells Bodytonic - almost no-one in New York is paying attention…

Italo Disco is one of the more obscure and perplexing sub cultures within dance music, inducing a fanatacism that can, to outsiders, seem somewhat odd. After spending years on the fringes, the last decade has seen a slow but sure revival in this late 70's/early 80's Italian style. Italo’s influence on the emerging scenes in Chicago and Detroit was overlooked for some time but has enjoyed a recent renaissance thanks to artists and DJs from the Netherlands channeling its sounds into their sets and productions.

With ‘The Inner Jukebox’ – his second artist album – hot off the press, DJ T has changed focus: the funk sound that influenced his debut album has been replaced by sounds from a different decade. But while mid-90s house is the order of the day on the new release, his influences run deeper. In a special Bodytonic podcast, Thomas Koch selects 10 tracks that never leave his jukebox.

Broadcasting from the mysterious SpaceStationZero in the early- to late-90s, Planetary Assault Systems took inspiration from Underground Resistance affiliates Red Planet and their alien fixation, but combined it with a more brutal techno aesthetic. While the resulting records have stood the test of time, they were very much of their era. So why has creator Luke Slater decided to start transmissions once again? Sunil Sharpe found out…

Introducing : Paul White

In late 2007, Paul White had the distinction of releasing the first record on One-Handed Music, the on-the-money London label that’s also home to the equally exciting beat merchant Bullion. And now Mr White has the honour of prepping the label’s long-player debut, ‘The Strange Dreams of Paul White’. With 21 tracks in 36 bleary-eyed minutes, it’s an apt title: the record is a narcoleptic dose of dense, psychedelic, instrumental hip-hop that lurches pleasingly from one snatched beat to the next, the occasional half-familiar sample adding to the feeling of déjà vu on vinyl.

This weekend the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, now known as Movement, hits its tenth anniversary. Over the last decade there have been many changes to the festival, some good, some bad, but in terms of representing dance music to a nation still not quite sure what to
do with it, it's one of the biggest of it's kind. Ironically, of course, Detroit is one of the home towns of modern dance music but over the last 10 years the festival has moved away from purely giving
a stage to local heroes and instead has focused more on getting international acts, with the non-Detroit artists far outnumbering locals.

She’s not the best known musician to emerge from those ‘Top Tips’ polls you see at the start of every year, but Ebony Bones is definitely one of the most creative. Described somewhere as a “Kate Bush for the iPod generation”, she rode the Myspace wave with one of her first tracks, ‘Don’t Fart On My Heart’. Its success was nothing short of phenomenal especially considering the track was supposed to be a piss take and only really intended to be heard by her friends.

Luke Slater, despite going off the rails for his brief encounter with '80s synth pop, has slowly come back to doing what he does best, by revisiting his Planetary Assault Systems project – one of the first defining sounds of UK or European techno. Rather than release on his own Mote Evolver label, he has chosen Berghain boys Ostgut Ton to release a new 12” on, and being one of the few labels that put out full albums these days, what do you know... a long awaited PAS album drops on Ostgut next month!

A Chat With : The Field

Too long staring at a laptop does strange things to a person. The Field found that out when he started an extended bout of touring in support his debut album, ‘From Here We Go Sublime’. There was something about that record, something one man staring at a laptop could not do justice. So in November 2007, some six months and many gigs after the record’s release, Alex Willner changed his mind. He went back home, recruited some musician friends, reworked the stage show and came back stronger. And one year later, when the time came to work on the follow-up to the rapturously received debut, those emergency running repairs ended up having a profound effect on the six tracks that make up his second album, ‘Yesterday And Tomorrow’.

Two releases old, but already Naked Lunch feels like a keeper. So far, the label has offered drum and bass producers a home for their deeper dubstep explorations – and with great success: Instramental’s ‘Futurist’ is one of the year’s stand-outs so far. Label boss DJ Pressure spills the beans…

The resultant 'So This Is The Dining Room' EP was the first in a decade-plus of interesting releases on a variety of labels that straddle the divide between techno, jazz, house, broken beat and soul. Much like his exclusive Bodytonic podcast...

Born in California and raised in Taiwan, the well-traveled producer Daniel Wang has been among the most restless and classically minded members of the dance music community over the last decade. Wang made a name for himself in the mid '90s Chicago house scene with a series of playful, funky, sample-delic 12-inches on his own Balihu label, compiled on 1998's I Was a Disco Malcontent: The Best of Balihu Records. Rooted in the pioneering disco and techno innovations of Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, Francois K, Arthur Russell, the releases earned Wang a reputation for being something of a dance music purist, a notion underscored by his philosophy that the whole of house music can be summed up in 200 pieces of vinyl, while all the rest are merely variations. Later in the '90s, Wang relocated to New York City, where he forged a friendship with the similarly retro-minded Morgan Geist of Metro Area. By this point, Wang had given up on the samples which cluttered his early releases, taking his back-to-basics ethic one step further. He'd also become an avid theremin enthusiast. In 2001, Geist's Environ label put out Wang's soulful, '70s boogie-inspired album Idealism. Danny recently played a double header for us at the Twisted Pepper and the Bernard Shaw. We got a chance to record this very special podcast with him, where he takes us through a small selection of his record collection, playing a great assortment of Japanese disco and chatting to Bodytonic's Conor L in between about each track. Its a different kind of podcast for us, but we hope you'll enjoy it. www.bodytonicmusic.com/podcasts/

Bodytonic Podcast 029 : DJ Craze

DJ Craze has been pushing the mash-up, Baltimore, hip-hop, Miami bass vibes for a couple of years now. Craze plays a whole swathe of tunes from the likes of the hipster head nodding trunk rattling hip-hop beats of The Cool Kids and Spank Rock, to the more jacked up Baltimore sounds of Blaqstarr, Pase Rock and Kid Sister Fingers, always with a mesh of classics thrown in the mix too like the Earth Wind and Fire and Jan Hammer on his FabricLive mix - proper dance floor stuff from start to finish. Not forgetting the booty poppin Miami Bass selection too! So lucky for you and us that he is mixing our podcast this week! You will also be able to check him out at the Twisted Pepper for MUD on February 27th: bodytonicmusic.com/podcasts

Brighton, UK DJ and producer Jack Adams is Mumdance and he makes some seriously dirty funked up beats. A relatively new cat on the scene, Mumdance already has a serious package of remixes under his belt from a very wide range of artists including Santogold, Evil 9 (his remix of All the Cash is quite a club hit at the moment), Daedeulus, Pop Levi, Mujava and the Black Lips and he has remixes coming early this year for the Whip and El Guincho, along with his own debut EP. Mumdance's DJ sets consist of a whopping mesh of grime, dubstep, baile funk, Baltimore and bassline. As an ex Vice Magazine journalist, Mumdance regularly plays at Vice parties too and has supported the likes of Crystal Castles, The Teenagers & These New Puritans. He plays the Twisted Pepper alongside Skream and Jammer on 20th February 2009. http://www.bodytonicmusic.com/podcasts/

Nathan Fake is an electronic music artist from the quiet county of Norfolk in the UK who swept onto the electronic music scene at the young age of 20 with big releases like Outhouse and The Sky Was Pink on Border Community and Traum Schallplatten. In 2006, he released his debut album "Drowning in a Sea of Love" which received a lot of critical praise and was considering by many to be one of the best electronic albums of that year. 2007 was a quiet one, but last year he returned with a couple of brand new remixes for the likes of DFA Records and recently he played for us at Pogo.

Erol Alkan was the resident DJ and founder of legendary London club night Trash. Located at The End nightclub in Central London, its ten years saw performances by Peaches, LCD Soundsystem, Klaxons, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Electric Six and many more up and coming bands. One of the worlds most interesting and charismatic DJs, you could surmise that he created the defining sound of an entire clubbing generation. These days, you can also find Erol producing a number of different bands, as well as being one half of the psychedelic rock act Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve. He has produced for The Long Blondes, The Klaxons, Mystery Jets' second album, Twenty One and Late of the Pier's debut record, Fantasy Black Channel. Here, he's kindly donated one of his best mixes from his own website and brings us a podcast of a very different flavour to what many may know him for, exhibiting his love for obscure disco records, while keeping that distinct Erol Alkan party style. Keep tuned to BodytonicTV in the weeks to come for an exclusive video interview with Erol himself.
BodytonicLive 09 : Metro Area

Metro Area are Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, and they're the absolute masters of modern disco influenced house music. They've kindly given us a mix which should warm everyone up nicely for their excellent new Fabric mix CD, and Darshan gave us a lot of his time for an interview with Bodytonic's Conor L... C: What were your earliest musical influences? DJ: Earliest influences would probably be, like my various influences would probably be Woodstock era rock, rock things like folk rock, like Santana and The Beatles. My parents had this music program, I think it was aimed at kids, called Free to be you and me, and I listened to that (Laughs). That was some of the very first things I would hear, mostly just because my dad had a record collection of that kind of stuff. C: Quite a departure from where you are now. DJ: Yeah definitely you know. That was it then followed by more like pop and rock stuff on the radio and eventually R’n’B, but yeah my earliest stuff was rock and roll LPs and Beatles and stuff like that. C: Would you ever drop stuff like that in when you are playing? DJ: No, not really, I haven’t really found that much in the danceable rock direction, I know a lot of people kind of even specialise in it so I know there’s a lot of material out there, but I think since I got really into dance, I haven’t really revisited trying to play that kind of thing in clubs although I still really have a soft spot for it, I really like to listen to it. I figured [the Beatles] didn’t need any more exposure! C: Which came first, DJing or production? DJ: Definitely production. I started to, well the whole reason I gravitated towards dance stuff anyways was because I was intrigued with synthesisers, so when I first started to hear synthesisers used in rock and R’n’B music I really was attached to those kind of sounds & instruments so when I was a teenager I got one and started to kind of program it and use a sequencer but that definitely came before I learned how to mix records in a club situation. C: It’s quite rare actually to hear that, with most people it’s the other way around and production is usually a necessity to progress on the business side. DJ: Yeah I kind of noticed that. I think both Morgan and I share that we were both sort of a little different because I didn’t actually realise that club music or the electronic music realm was so DJ driven, I didn’t actually get that until later. C: Well the downside to that is that you get a lot of DJs making records that just don’t actually have the talent or musical ability to do it and you get a lot of poor records as a result. DJ: Yeah I would agree with that, just even as a record buyer. C: Personally I find that part funny, because if you were to think about it on the level of say 25 years ago in New York, the idea of asking Patrick Adams to go DJ in a club because you like his records is just nuts! DJ: Yeah it’s ridiculous (Laughs) C: You know and people would have laughed at you back then yet... DJ: "You want me do what!" (Laughs) C: Yet nowadays its commonplace. DJ: Yeah sort of the interchangeability of the two is totally a modern thing and it’s a little bit funny. C: Which do you prefer? DJ: I love both but I think I would have to say if I had to pick one, I would have to say I like working in the studio and making stuff. I love to DJ, I really do, especially since I’ve kind of developed a feel for it in the past 5/6 years but there’s something about getting an idea out and making it from scratch that if I don’t do it for a while I really, really miss it you know, so I’d have to say that is my favourite. C: What is your opinion on the current state of nightlife in NY? DJ: Oh, it’s kind of bleak man. We don’t have enough venues and the people that are doing clubs; it feels like they aren’t really focused on it. There are one or two venues that are thriving and have a distinct program and consistency about them, but I think that a lot of venues are hazardously jumping from trend to trend and not really knowing if they want to be a bottle service place or a fancy place or a dance place and it’s not too good now and the economics of the city have not helped that situation because it puts a lot of pressure on a venue owner to try to figure out a business model that really works so in peoples desperation to pay the high rent and a bunch of stuff, it doesn’t really make for a very focused program. C: It’s sad to hear that considering the legacy of the city and what has come before. DJ: Yeah I know, we are still coasting on what we did 25/30 years ago and I feel like we have the raw material here in terms of people, like it’s still a great mix and a great musical history, but the economics have been hard and we are lacking spaces and the mayor is a little bit like I can’t tell what his attitude is. On one hand I feel like he could really be for it and be supportive of nightlife but he hasn’t really addressed it specifically, where as Giuliani, who kind of kicked off the current era in NY, he was definitely decidedly anti – nightlife. C: Yeah, he shut down a lot of places. DJ: Yeah, he shut down a *lot* of places and he really cracked down on the whole quality of life, I don’t know if you heard about that?, like just paying attention to peoples noise complaints and that kind of thing, so it’s been a difficult ten years in New York but I’m hoping to see some changes. C: Yeah we are having similar issues over here in Ireland and there was a protest in July over the government knocking the hours back to half 2. There are some really talented people but I think it really needs to be going later for that develop the way it needs to. DJ: Yeah I agree with you. There’s nothing wrong with that though, other cities thrive on that. Like you know if you go out in Spain, they don’t even get to the club until 3! C: Yeah I love that side of things, but over here people go out late and just go out for 2 hours and go nuts for those 2 hours, you know... DJ: Yeah totally! (Laughs) It’s funny though, you can kind of feel that people want a little change in the nightlife but the municipalities have to play ball.
Bodytonic Podcast 024 : Marcel Dettmann

Marcel Dettmann and Berghain nightclub go together like Jodie Marsh and China Whites but any other comparisons between the two would be stretching things to an unbelievable level. Marcel lives in the Berlin neigbourhood of Friedrichshain, about a ten minute cycle from the club many consider to be the best in the world. Those of you who’ve had to queue outside for an hour and a half only to be turned away while the some soap-dodger in a tracksuit gets in might have a different opinion. But with Tresor apparently off the boil, it seems that the only place for techno to move forward is Berghain. Marcel is an old school East German who was just hitting his teens when techno was in its infancy. Marcel recorded the second Bergain compilation this year. Resident Advisor described it as a “defining moment when techno got out of that locked groove.”. This week he brings us a podcast, and a few answered questions... **The biggest Influence in my Life...** The biggest influence in my life was/is my childhood and that I grew up in DDR. After the fall of the wall I was strongly influenced by the emerging techno culture in Berlin, it was incredibly exciting to dip into this foreign world. The Musik Liberty and energy of this time has formed me a lot and the fascination is still a part of my music. **The internet...** The internet is going to be an important platform of communication and presentation for me and my work. Nevertheless I try to get rid of redundant information in order not to be addicted by these interactive things. **If I could turn back time...** I would do everything the same, I'm totally happy with my personal development. **My first gig....** was in 1993 in my hometown in front of 10 people - I was totally nervous and had stage-fright **The funniest thing I ever heard...** Every day I experience funny & extraordinary stories There's no explicit & funny story to tell - exciting & new things happen to me a lot - that´s important for me!! **Food and music...** Both means enjoyment & sensuality to me... Both are essential building blocks - it conciliates my body and soul **The happiest moment...** I want to keep that private **One place you should definitely visit...** Probably I will climb the biggest mountain in the world and enjoy the silence and pureness of the moment. **The best food in the world....** Best food will be found at places where people cook with a lot of love, time and creativity and where people concentrate on essentials aroma's of the region and culture. **The best advice I ever got ....** People who live their lives rationally, do not understand life. http://www.bodytonicmusic.com/podcasts/

Normally we bring you podcasts from international DJs or producers, but this week we decided to go local with a superb podcast from our very own Nic James. Born in Germany, raised in England and then poached by Dublin, our loyalty to Nic is so strong that if he were to up decks and move to Papua New Guinea, we'd still come see him play every weekend. **For people who've never met or heard of you before, can you describe yourself in a couple of words?** I guess for the purposes of this interview, the couple of words I used would be party and DJ **If you had to market this mix, what would the blurb say?** I think my name and the tracklist should be marketing enough though I'd probably avoid putting my picture on it. Maybe a big 'Special Offer' sticker or something? **Ideally, in what situation would you like people to listen to this mix?** Well, it sort of goes up and then down in terms of tempo and energy so perhaps on your iPod on the way home from the club? It's kind of gangsta in places so it might be good for walking the streets late at night. I guess it's for loners who haven't got lucky and don't have the taxi fare home… **What was the main thought going through your head when you put it together?** Er, no thoughts really. I picked out most of the tunes before I did it and at the time I was trying to reflect the records that have been big when I've played out recently. I was aiming to make sure I fitted in the different sorts of music I play in a way that made sense. **Now it's done, are there any tracks you wish you'd put in, or is it perfect?** Not even close to perfect! I would make lots of changes, more reggae, less B’more, change the order of tunes, all sorts of stuff, but I usually just get to the 70 minute mark and say “that'll do pig”. **Is there a record or an artist that you can credit with the reason you began DJing?** The rap groups I listened to when I was eleven or twelve, like De La Soul, NWA, Salt n' Pepper and UK rappers like Derek B started my interest. I knew I was going to have to DJ as I couldn't MC. I was in a series of psychedelic and rap/metal bands at school and college and was slowly incorporating more and more computer and turntable elements into them until I formed a group with a friend where we made everything with samples. I couldn't see at the time how you could perform sample based instrumental music live so I learnt how to DJ as an outlet for this music we were making. **If you had to erase either Kraftwerk, the Beatles or Kool DJ Herc from the history books, who'd you pick and why?** That's a tricky one, I guess Kool DJ Herc, because he seemed to have some pretty tough times as a result of DJing, getting stabbed and stuff, although I suppose John Lennon got shot… OK. Lets say Kraftwerk. No real reason, I just don't think they would care if anyone had heard of them or not. **In 2008, we had Burial and Santogold – who do you think everyone will be talking about in 2009?** I'm terrible at these kind of predictions but my girlfriend likes Kid Cudi at the moment and she was on all that Santogold and Kid Sister stuff way before anyone else I know. **We're running a feature called Paddylonglegs where we turn someone with no skills into a DJ in about two and a half months. He's really struggling at the moment – any tips?** I guess if he's mixing some kind of club music then the advice I'd give would be to count - get all your 1234, 2234, 3234s right and everything should fall into place. Other than that I'd say don't become too obsessed with the mixing, worry about the tunes more. I'll give them a lesson if they want. **If your life was a song lyric, what would it be?** Unintelligible drum and bass MCing. You can't really make out exactly what's being said but it all adds to the excitement. www.bodytonicmusic.com/podcasts/

They will need no introduction to Bodytonic regulars, but for the rest of you Fish Go Deep are an Irish production duo consisting of Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson from Cork. They have been releasing house records under this name since 1998 and in 2006 they reached number 1 on both the dance chart and indie chart with their track "The Cure & the Cause". Both Greg and Shane played an integral part in the emergence of house music in Ireland at Sir Henrys in Cork between 1988 and 2001, laying the foundations for later house collectives, such as ourselves! Earlier this year at Electric Picnic, the lads played one of the best sets of the weekend on a Friday night, as part of a Fish Go Deep 20th Birthday celebration. We present that set to you this week, along with a brief interview: **What's the secret to your longevity?** Stay true. If you're not feeling it, do something else. **Describe the last 20 years in three words** O.M.G. **What would you be doing if you weren't making music/DJing?** Greg - running a pizza parlour. Shane - golf professional. **Where do you see House going for the next 20 years?** Home. **Looking back over the last 20 years is there anything you would do differently?** Get off our arses and into the studio earlier. **Have either of you ever left the house without a Kerri Chandler record in the bag?** Just the once - May 15th 1996. Disastrous! **Most under-rated DJ/Producer out there over the years?** Always thought Paul Hunter/Second Crusade from Glasgow should have got more props. Great producer, anyone know what he's doing these days? **Where outside of Ireland has been exciting to play?** Galway. **Why did some tunes become huge in Cork that were virtually unheard of anywhere else?** With our weekly residency we didn't have to hit people over the head with the music. We were able to break a track over a few weeks or even months so if there was an obscure little number we liked then we had the freedom to make it a big track. **Was there REALLY limits on the decks at Sweat to stop people playing more than 120bpm?** What do you think?

Nick Höppner has been DJing since 1997. Initially, he played lots of Hamburg based clubs and bars, then moved to Berlin in 2001 and quickly became a resident at Berlin's seminal Panorama Bar/Berghain Club. In 1999 he started a day job as one of Groove Magazine's editors. At the start of 2005, he decided to become a fulltime DJ and producer. Now as part MyMy, Nick works on the creative side of things with Lee Jones but by night has held court at Panorama Bar successfully for the last few years, in what has become the epicentre of all things musically cool. We caught up with him for some questions and a great new podcast mix.

BodytonicLive 06 : Shed

Sheds background is as classic as his music. Born in Frankfurt/Oder in 1975, he was fascinated by the new music played on the radio in the early 90s - a very typical thing for anyone from this generation who grew up in Berlin or its surrounding counties. DJ's as diverse as Westbam, Marusha or Monika Dietl mixed styles and genres into a musical encyclopaedia. While everybody around Shed focussed on HipHop, he himself was addicted to the sample-based sound of UK-hardcore. Then there was a quick liaison with Gabba and through the back catalogue of Djax Up, he finally discovered Chicago and then Detroit. Deep inside the ever-fascinating triangle of beats, breaks and samples, he today identifies 1996/97 as the most important time in Techno for him, although he hit the brakes straight afterwards. While the mainstream did what it could to commercialise the music, Shed closed the door on the Love Parade, cheesy remixes and mega raves. Between 1998 and 2002 he did not buy a single record. However, he never lost the love for the music, which had changed his life. He used these years to focus his own productions. Around 2000, he had finished some tracks, which combined and contained everything close to his Techno heart, things which were almost extinct in the real world. "I'm a techno-kid, through and through", he says and laughs. When he started shopping his demos around, the idea of his own label was already lurking behind the door. "I suddenly realised how important it was to really do it all by myself."

Duke Dumont, 26, has made a big splash in the scene, equally known for his memorable DJ sets as he is for his "catch you off guard" productions. In 2006, Duke was crowned Diesel U Music champion, beating thousands of other producers to be considered the best unsigned producer in the world by a host of music industry judges, consisting the like of 2manyDJs. Previous winners for this award include producers such as Mylo and DJ Yoda. Duke Dumont rose to prominence in 2007 with the release of Lean & Bounce, featured on his debut EP "Regality" on Turbo Recordings. A fusion of low pitched vocal hooks, with a finely tuned techno lead, combined with an unbeatable bassline, created one of the dance records of the year. Championed by the likes of Erol Alkan, SMD, Switch, Jesse Rose, Armand Van Helden and literally thousands more.

Swiss-Chilean Luciano is pretty much the house & techno man of the moment. He’s just finished mixing the latest Fabric compilation (Fabric 41) and his label Cadenza is starting to bubble nicely, not to mention the fact that you’ll catch him playing at all the world’s top clubs & festivals. Luciano started out producing & DJing in the mid 90s and at the same time he was actively promoting Santiago’s Sense Club and the Encuentros con La Technocultura alongside many of South American’s important house & techno pioneers including Ricardo Villalobos, Se?or Coconut, Dandy Jack & Microman. In 2000 he moved over to Switzerland and concentrated heavily on his production with his tracks getting signed to labels like Perlon, Transmat, Lo-Fi-Stereo & Klang. Luciano has also collaborated with Ricardo Villalobos (as Sense Club) and Pierre Bucci & Argenix Brito as Monne Automne. While he plays around the globe frequently, you can catch him regularly at Fabric, DC10 (when they’re open!) and at Weetamix in his home town of Geneva. Here you can catch a little live stream of Luciano’s current sound, an indication of what you can expect from his Fabric mix & upcoming sets – deep, hypnotic, percussive, spacey house & techno...

The Sick Girls hail from Berlin, but you won’t find them playing house or techno. They’re one of the few acts in the city representing the current wave of grime/Baltimore/bass sounds. The girls started out organising and booking parties for many years for two of Berlin’s most famous clubs Tresor & WMF, and one night back in 2004 decided to play together for fun, instantly discovering that they shared the same, quite unusual taste of music considering their “oh-so techno” surroundings. They have a real knack for mashing up, re-editing & remixing whatever track or whatever style in whatever order they feel. If you have a good rummage through their record box you’ll find all sorts of grime, baile funk, Baltimore, hip-hop, crunk, dancehall, dubstep, electro and every other edgy genre in between from around the globe. Here they’ve laid down an exclusive “in ya face” party mash-up, turn up your woofers...

Washington DC native Tittsworth has been bubblin' under in the B-more scene for a good few years now alongside the likes of Scottie B, Say-Wut, Aaron La Crate & Spankrock, and it looks like he’s about ready to pop large with the release of his debut album “12 Steps” this Aug on Stretch Armstrong’s (the dude responsible for breaking Wu-Tang) Plant Music label. Tittsworth has hooked up with a nice selection of MCs & vocalists for the album including Kid Sister, Pase Rock, Pitbull, Nina Sky & hyphy vets The Federation and has been a big step up for him spreading his wings beyond the world blog & club remixes. His Baltimore club sets comprise of a heavy high energy mash-up of grimey hip-hop, crunk & hyphy, cranked up bassline & house/electro and you’re likely to hear a crate load of his own productions, re-edits & bootlegs thrown into the mix. The following podcast will paint the picture perfectly for you (it includes some of the upcoming tracks off 12 Steps too). Turn it up & your neighbours will love you forever...

No. 2 in our live podcast comes from ex-Blackstrober & Kill the DJ man Ivan Smagghe direct from our very own POGO last June. Since his departure from Blackstrobe almost 2 years ago, Ivan has been based in London and is a regular star at both Fabric & Bugged Out as well as many cutting edge clubs on the international circuit. Lately he’s moved away from his dark “heroin-chic” electro-y sounds for more druggy, hypnotic and thumpin techno as can be heard in this recording.

We're launching a brand new occasional treat for you this week, with our brand new BodytonicLive series of podcasts, all recorded live from various venues and brought straight to you. Because those venues have kindly offered to share these sets with us, they won't be available for direct download, but you will be able to stream them right here at Bodytonicmusic.com. This week, we've teamed up with the great folks over at [Fabriclive](http://www.fabriclondon.com/) to bring you a brilliantly insane podcast from New York City's Drop the Lime. He's just about impossible to pigeon-hole but we'll give it a try - expect "all-levels-in-the-red, jacked-up House morphing in and out of Electro, Dubstep and Grime". Its really a whole lot of techno, house, dubstep, grime, booty bass, baile funk and everything else. Enjoy the party!

We're back from sunning (or burning in the case of some) ourselves and of course working thoroughly during this year's Sonar Festival in Barcelona. So still being in absolute techno mode, the arrival of Ben Klock's podcast through our letter box couldn't have been timed any better. Ben Klock is currently one of the main residents at Berghain (below Panorama Bar) in Berlin. Throughout the 90s he spun in the city's top clubs at the time like Cookies, Tresor and WMF, and then when Berghain opened in December 2004, he took on residency to act out his need for more booming techno. Ben has released a number of EPs on labels such as Bpitch Control, Memo and WMF Records which have shown his ear for some of the more darker & deeper techno sounds, as well as gaining him recognition outside Germany. He has also released a series of EPs on Berghain's fine in-house label Ost-Gut Ton including "Dawning/Dead Man Watches The Clock" and the hypnotic & buidling Scenario both of which he produced with fellow Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann. Ben has put some of his most recent work out on his own label Klockworks, and he is presently putting finishing touches on his debut album due for release in January 2009.
Ex-UK garage & dub maestro Zed Bias brings us our podcast this week, recorded live last Friday and cutting up lots of nu-sounds, broken beats & dubby grooves. Zed Bias is Dave Jones: producer, DJ and a prolific innovator from deep within the UK music scene. Zed lurks behind as many production names as he has musical styles. He’s Maddslinky for west London’s Sirkus records and one half of Phuturistix With Injekta . With Italy’s DJ Rocca he’s Daluq and alongside MC Juiceman and Simba has formed The Henchmen. The Zed Bias moniker has even had a surprise chart hit, with ‘Neighbourhood’ denting the top 30 in July 2000. To date Zed’s completed over 65 remixes. It’s all a far cry from his days as a local rare groove DJ.

Simbad is one of our favourite producer/DJs in the house scene at the moment and creating some very exciting new sounds having collaborated & remixed with a wide range of artists including Tony Allen, Roy Ayers, Bugz in the Attic & Marque Gilmore. His sophomore album “Supersonic Revelation” was released on Raw Fusion late last year with tracks being picked up by all sorts of acts from Giles Peterson to Laurent Garnier. Simbad has also completed a remix of BDI’s “Brooklyn to LA” on our very own Scribble label.

This weeks Bodytonic Podcast comes from original rude boy, DJ, remixer, and recording artist Ashley Beedle. Ashley should be well known to most for his work with Rocky and Diesel as part of house super band X-press 2. Featuring some damn good music with soul and passion, this is a live recording of his recent set at 12 in Dublin and its the perfect way to bask in any sunshine you might currently be enjoying, as we are!
