Boeing Tech Team is a design competition in which SWE sections around the country contact sponsors to find a project and compete with their final prototype and presentation against SWE sections from other universities. This year we have partnered with GE Healthcare to develop a more efficient test lung for testing anesthesia machines and critical care ventilators. No experience is necessary!

We meet Tuesday from 6-7pm. Location varies on Engineering Campus so check the SWE calendar.

If you’re interested in getting involved, check the SWE calendar, TWIS, and this site for meeting updates! You can also subscribe to our email list at join-uwswetechteam@lists.wisc.edu.

For more information about Boeing Tech Team, please contact Meghan Collins at mcollins9@wisc.edu.

Past posts:

Our first kickoff meeting is February 1st from 6-7pm in ECB 1025 where we will introduce team members, talk about the upcoming design project, and establish positions for the team. No experience is necessary!

We will also be having a site visit to their Madison location on Sunday, February 11th from 12:30-3pm. This will allow members to learn more about GE, the machines we will be designing the lungs for, and to start brainstorming ideas with our industry advisors. If you are interested in attending please sign up here.

The Boeing tech team is a multidisciplinary team which competes in the annual SWE Tech Team Competition sponsored by Boeing. Each year, the tech team works closely with an industrial sponsor to design, develop, and test a product or process which meets the industrial sponsor’s needs. The final deliverable is presented at SWE Nationals during the design competition.

For the 2016 competition, the tech team created a small pitch ribbon tail tester for Xymox Technologies. This ribbon tail tester would allow Xymox to test their printed electronic membranes which use up to 50 closely spaced silver conductive traces. After designing the mechanical housing and printed circuit board, the team successfully completed mechanical and electrical testing to prove that the circuit board was continuous and that the prototype would last Xymox at least 1,000 uses.

At SWE Nationals, the tech team won third place and $1,250 for the team and UW-Madison section.
