After the local elections I will be going to Camiguin for a couple’s retreat. It will be a day of learning about marriage and most of all a day to have fun and enjoy the beauty of the island. Some of my companions will be bringing a lot of stuff like travel yoga mat, clothes, gadgets but as for me I have decided to travel light to I won’t carry heavy bags while exploring the entire island.

Def Leppard and Taylor Swift

My husband was watching a video of Def Leppard’s concert last night and I happened to also watched it. It was a concert recorded way back in the 90’s and I was wondering about the recent looks of the band members. My husband showed me another video which was the latest concert of Def Leppard and Taylor Swift which was recorded probably around year 2008 or 2009. Def Leppard members were now old but their voice and musical ability didn’t change, it was still very good.

While we were watching the video, we noticed that Def Leppard’s songs were arranged fitted to Taylor’s musical style where Banjos and other traditional musical instruments are used. Despite that, it still sounded good and very entertaining. Below is a video clip of that concert.

My husband took this photo on our way home last Sunday.Instead of taking the usual route at the main road, we went the other way and passed by Puntod bridge going to Kauswagan. The beautiful sunset caught our attention and we stopped and took a photo of it.

Customizing Guitars

Yesterday my husband customized his acoustic guitar by placing a transducer, guitar pickup so he can use his guitar with an amplifier. While he was customizing it, I was hoping that he wont make mistakes because it he was making a hole with his guitar using a small kind of saw. After an hour, I heard him play his guitar. Glad to know that he did a great job in customizing it. His next assignment is to place an emg pickups on his electric guitars.

I was privileged to be invited as one of the media partners in the PinkED Tea event organized yesterday by THRIVE, a breast cancer advocacy group in Cagayan de Oro that provides awareness about Breast Cancer and gives emotional support and fellowship to cancer survivors.

The open forum with one of the best breast and cancer specialist in the country, Dr. Jose Rhoel de Leon was very informative. I have learned that early detection is the best prevention for breast cancer. Having a self breast examination a week after menstruation is also a must for all of us women. Karen Lluch, the president of THRIVE also gave encouragement that cancer is not the end as many people think. You don’t have to hide with it but you can get support from your family, friends and support groups like THRIVE.

Everyone of us can also help THRIVE in their advocacy. We can help spread the word and be involved in their events and projects. Just recently, Spruce Designer Network has given all their support as one of the group’s partner. Spruce launched its “Spruce Pinked”, a shop for a cause project. For every purchase of Spruce Pinked footwear, 10% will go to THRIVE. The funds gathered will be used for their community based screening programs, providing assistance to women who can’t afford to have breast screening and tests. I'm now at CD-R King Capistrano and I wanted to buy the cheapest flat screen stand. It cost around 1,200 pesos but before I got to finally purchase it, I was informed by my cousin that his friend is selling the same flat screen stand for only 500 pesos. Well, it sounds like a good news to me so I think I will have to choose the cheapest one.

Cagayan de Oro – On March 18 to 20, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, Inc. (OB Philippines) will conduct a three-day surgical mission in Cagayan de Oro City for poor Filipinos with serious health problems.

This is in partnership with Tulong sa Kapwa-Philippine-American Association of Connecticut (PAAC), SHARE Foundation and Capitol University Medical Center.

A contingent of 17 medical professionals composed of anaesthesiologists, electrophysiologist, pediatric ophthalmologist, cardiac surgeon, OB/GYN, orthopedic surgeon and registered nurses from the US. They will perform open-heart surgeries, pacemaker insertion, orthopedic and gynaecologic procedures, and pediatric and adult strabismus repair for patients who cannot afford expensive medical operations.

“Our partnership with PAAC and Capitol University Medical Center will surely give hope to our kababayans who have life-threatening medical conditions. They are desperate for surgeries that can help them live better lives,” said Dr. Kim April Pascual, OB Philippines’ Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

“We are deeply appreciative of the enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment showed by the doctors and volunteers who are joining this event,” she adds.

PBA Legends Search for Next Generation of Basketball Stars

Former PBA players Jojo Lastimosa and Johnny Abarrientos will be in Purok 5, Brgy. Puerto Cagayan De Oro City to conduct a basketball training camp at the Court of Inspiration on March 16, 2013.

Along with Benjie Paras, Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Codinera and Ronnie Magsanoc, the group of retired hardcourt legends have been revisiting various Visayas and Mindanao provinces to hold the Galing Mo Camp as part of Alaxan FR's advocacy to foster the value of hard work and dedication through sports.

Five aspiring basketball players will be chosen as official representatives for each camp. They stand a chance of winning prizes for themselves and their communities, as they train under PBA Legends in the Galing Mo National Camp that will be held in Manila on April.

The program is open to all aspiring basketball players aged 16-21 years old. Registration is open on March 15 from 8AM-5PM at the the Court of Inspiration in Brgy. Puerto, Cagayan de Oro City.

Church Day

Going to church is one of my main activity during Sundays. I love to meet my church friends and have fellowship with them, singing worship songs and most of all I love to learn and listen to the Word of God. We are now starting in our worship service in our community church and we are preparing the things that we need. God is good for providing us with TV screen, musical instruments and hopefully we can buy cushioned seats like the american made church chair I saw online. For now we are utilizing the plastic chairs in our main church and so far so good. It’s so wonderful to spend the day in church. You will not only find joy in meeting people but you will enjoy the presence of God.

No Smoking

I am wondering why people still smoke even if a big “No Smoking” sign is right in front of them. Sometimes they are very brave to do it especially if everybody is doing it. I do not condemn people if they buy acid cigars and smoke their entire lungs out but I hope they will be responsible enough in doing so. For smokers, kindly consider others especially if you are in a non-smoking zone or in public places.

Most of the time, a messy desk gives the impression of disorganized and untidy person. No matter what people think, it is always best to maintain a tidy desk so you can work easily and comfortably.

In order to have a tidy desk, you only need to put a few things on it. You might probably put only those things that you often use like tape, staples, pens and you can put all of these in a drawer. The other things that are not often used can be placed in a shelf away from your desk. Also, you can buy desk name plates at QuickNameTags.com to add on your desk. People in the office can easily find where your desk at and at the same time the name plate will most likely motivate you to make your desk clean because your name is on it.

I was bored the other day so I went outside and took photos. These are some of the things I saw in our backyard.

I don't know the name of this plant, but I used to call this as "lipstick" plant when I was a child. I usually get the flowers and make it as my red nails.

These are my mother-in-law's orchids. Good thing the flowers were blooming which makes it a good subject for pictures.

Environmentally Friendly Pet

These days we are very conscious of being green and trying to recycle all our food packaging, paper and even food waste. Some people have more bins in their kitchen then they do cupboards but are there still ways in which we can be environmentally friendly that we have not considered? There are ways to be an environmentally pet owner as well as being green in the home.

One of the best ways to help the environment is to adopt an unwanted pet from a shelter rather than buy a puppy/kitten from a breeder. There are so many thousands of unwanted pets in the UK alone that it does not make sense to increase the demand for more animals by buying from a breeder when you can rescue one for a fraction of the cost and they are just as adequate a pet.

If you are a cat owner you can help the environment by putting a bell on your cat’s collar so that they do not kill other animals such as birds, mice and other small creatures. Dog owners can help the environment by picking up their dogs poo and using it in a composter rather than filling landfills with yet more waste.

Consider keeping your dog on a lead on walks if you know they are prone to killing local wildlife. Whilst dogs do need to burn off their energy the local wildlife needs to remain balanced to survive.

By neutering your pet you are stopping anymore unwanted kittens/puppies entering the world. As discussed the dog and cat shelters are already full and more kittens or puppies is not helping the situation, if you are giving them away then you are taking away potential parents of an animal shelter animal. The food you choose can also play a big part in being environmentally green. Choose food that is natural and additive free, check the meat content to ensure it is a quality meat and not the nasty leftovers that could make your pet ill. Lots of foods do contain natural ingredients that are not hurting the environment. Food like James Well beloved, Purina and Royal Canin are great foods that will feed most dog/cat types, size and age. Me and My Guitar

One of the things I love is my guitar. It’s my tool to worship my creator, the one true living God. It’s also my companion when I am tired and lonely and my favorite toy whenever I feel bored.

I actually owned a guitar a few years ago but I just learned how to play it last year. I wanted to have a one-on-one tutorial with my husband but he is always busy. The best thing I did was to learn it through the internet. I printed a lot of guitar chords and mastered it. Video tutorials on YouTube were also very helpful.

When my husband arrives from work, I asked him if what I have learned online was right. Most of the time he corrects me and that’s where I got to master the guitar. My husband was very happy with my progress and he bought me a new Yahama acoustic guitar last year. Now I am using it everyday.

I am not very confident with how I play the guitar, but I am happy that I can play a few songs now. Moreover, I can now play with my husband whenever he needed someone to jam with him. I still need to practice everyday and I need to surprise my husband with my guitar skills. Who knows, he might buy me a taylor guitar at musicians friend one of these days. (ha-ha)

Suntan Flower

Two years ago I bought a small Suntan plant for only 30 pesos. I don’t know what came in my mind that day but when I saw a lot of plants being sold on the streets, I was attracted to it and bought one. I used to plant different kinds of flowering plants way back in my grade school days. I had bougainvillea, suntan, gumamela and many others. The only flowering plant that I couldn't grow at that time were roses because its not suitable on humid places. I used to water my plants early in the morning and every six o’clock in the evening. I just love to see how my flowers bloomed every time I checked them in the morning and I got angry when other kids picked them so carelessly.

Going back to my Suntan plant... I was amazed to see its flowers blooming. I thought it will never grow anymore because I seldom water it. But thanks to my kind mother-in law who waters it every morning, the small plant has now turned into a lovely flowering plant. Seeing how my Suntan bloomed, I am now motivated to plant and buy more flowering plants.

Customized 2013 Calendar

Last December I gave a customized 2013 Calendar to some of my church friends. They were very happy with the calendar because their photos from our Christmas party was there. However, they wished the calendar was bigger so they can see their photos and dates clearly. Anyway, I hope to make another one next year but I guess I will be hiring a shop that is good in print labels to ensure that the calendars are nicely done.

Foggy Afternoon in Marawi City

I was in MSU Marawi last Thursday and it was my first time to be in that place. I have thoughts about the place before I went but it was the exact opposite of what I was thinking. The weather was relatively cool just like in Bukidnon. But when fogs covered the place in the afternoon, it was now similar to Baguio. Wearing mink coats would have been perfect, but at least we have our jackets and coats to keep us warm.

What's On His Box?

My husband got some gifts this Christmas. It was from his friends and family members. He received perfumes, key chains and edwin jagger grooming set. Of all the gifts, I was interested with the grooming set. It has a razor, a razor brush, an after shave lotion, shave soap and many others. The razor brush was new to me because I don’t see my husband uses it. However it looks cool.

I hope he will be able to use all of his gifts so those who gave those gifts will be very much happy.

I received an email today informing me of our activities for 2013. I was surprised that it will begin on the first month. Although I find it a bit early but I am still very happy for the opportunity to work and be of help to others. The year 2013 will surely be a lot of activities and work for me but I will not complain. Instead, I will be thankful for the opportunities that will be opened so I can become a blessing to others.

Most Christmas party these days needs a DJ in order to make the party more fun. But since we have limited resources, we can't afford to hire one. If someone would donate a dj equipment at guitar center or similar to it, I believe our Christmas party will be so much fun. However, if a DJ or a DJ equipment will not be available I guess God will provide people who can make our party more fun and exciting.

Home Fixing Day

I was happy that we were able to fix some broken stuff at home. My husband and I bought cables and wires in one of the industrial supply company in our city. I am now happy that I can now watch TV more clearly because hubby bought a cable wire for our TV. There are still a lot of things that needs to be fixed at home. I hope our Christmas vacation will give us the opportunity to do it while we are at home.
