My Classical Guitar

My husband learned how to play the guitar when he was in his grade school years. He is into blues-rock type of guitar playing today, but he managed to learn playing with a classical guitar. At nine years old, his small fingers could barely make the notes of a chord ring because of the guitar’s enormously wide fret board and a super thick neck. I guess it was really a good training because shifting to steel-string guitars made his guitar playing more comfortable.

I started learning how to play the guitar when I was already in college. I bought my first classical guitar that looks like a yamaha c40. Although it cannot beat Yamaha’s superb tonal quality, I am still thankful because through it I was able to learn how to play the guitar.

Help in Times of Need

It’s been one month since the flood happened in our city but until now people are still talking about the things that had happened to them during the tragedy. I can still recall the scene after the flood subsided. People were running to and fro and everyone else looked shocked about what happened. Rescuers came and the government provided roadside assistance plan to motorist who were stranded in the flood or even got their vehicles carried away by the flood waters. There were courageous individuals who willingly serve to rescue others in that time of need and many private institutions came to give food and clothing to the flood victims. Everyone came to help our city rise from its fall. Until now, a lot of individuals are still sending help for our city. God bless their generosity!

My Coca-Cola Yoyo

When I was 12 years old, I joined a drawing contest sponsored by Coca-Cola Company. It was joined by all grade school students in the country. I was the one chosen to represent our school and I was happy for the opportunity to join a nationwide drawing contest.

I didn’t win in the contest but I was so happy to receive a consolation prize. My prize was a Coca-Cola yoyo. Playing yoyo was popular during that time so I was happy with my contest prize. Most people at that time have duncan yoyos but I am already satisfied and very much happy with my Coca-Cola yoyo. Beginning that day, I started to learn how to play yoyo but I couldn't master any tricks and loops. LOL!

Locating the Houses

I am currently involved in helping those people who are affected by the flood. My task is to assess the houses of the flood victims and will have to find out what are the things they need so we can help them build their houses again. We are helping those people who really don’t have the resources to build a simple hut.

I find my task enjoyable because I find it a great joy to be a blessing to others. I am also thankful because my husband helps me and he is the one who drives for me to the houses of the flood victims. The only challenging part in my task is locating the houses. I am not good in directions and it’s difficult to locate the houses because we don’t have tom tom GPS systems here in the Philippines. The people that I met on the streets are the one who helped find the exact location. It takes time though but at least I get to accomplish my task because of their help.

Spongebob and the Flood Victims

We gave joy to the children who are flood victims in Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City by bringing them a mascot in one of our gift giving activity. The kids were very happy when they saw Spongebob.

Even their parents were very happy too! Can you see their smiles?

Sendong Aftermath and Cleaning Time

Due to typhoon Sendong (Washi), our church has been flooded. It was full of mud and all the other church equipment were totally a mess. Last Friday, I have called church friends to help me clean our church. We started sorting out our things and throw away those things that can’t be used anymore.

In other places, people are also busy cleaning their houses that were all flooded. The streets on most affected areas are also full of mud and the government is now working on it to bring back the streets to its normal condition. It would be nice if someone can provide us with a composter to make use of that garbage we had from the flash flood.

Today is going to be another day to start cleaning the church.

Two More Years...

Two years from now, my mom will be retiring from her work as a teacher. She’s a bit excited about her retirement because she wanted to rest and do whatever she wants to do. She plans to travel and enjoy her retirement in every way she can. When she retires, she plans to have an immediate annuity on her benefits from the government insurance system. In this way, she will immediately have an income even if she is already retired. Would this be a great idea? What do you think?

Cagayan de Oro City Needs Potable Water

I thought water connection is back today. Sad to say, we still have no water as of these days. Just this afternoon, I've heard from a friend that the water connection will be back after 21 days. Oh my! This is going to be a big problem.

Good thing there are water refilling stations available all over the city but people will have to wait for a long queue. Despite the long queue, people are patient enough to line up and have their share of potable water. Some generous individuals are giving free water to evacuation centers and flood victims find it a big help for them.

I hope the water connection will be fixed very soon.

Factory Visit Cancelled

I scheduled an activity where students can visit a factory that makes sanitary napkins, tissues and cottons. Through this, the kids will have an idea how these toiletries are made and it will give them the opportunity to observe their surroundings. They will also develop in them a sense of curiosity about themselves and the world around them and in turn, it will help them understand about everything.

Sad to say, the factory manager won’t allow pre-school kids on their factory. The main reason is that the factory is not safe for young visitors. They have industrial coolant pumps, industrial machines and other tools that might be very dangerous for these kids.

A visit to the factory would be a great learning experience for my students, but thinking about their safety, I would rather have it cancelled than be sorry later.

Whenever I got to buy something, I usually ask for a receipt because it helps me keep track my expenses. In addition, I need it whenever I have purchases that need refund. I actually have a box at home just for my receipts alone.

Here in the Philippines, the government is in constant reminder to ask for receipts in all our purchases. This is their way of ensuring that the taxes on our purchase from shops and other business establishments will be remitted to the government. Most of the time, people don’t ask for receipts anymore because it usually take a lot of their time. Some cashiers write too slow and most of the people nowadays don’t have the patience to wait. Good thing, other business establishments like shops in the malls are now using modern receipt printers like the Epson TM-T88V. Cashiers don’t have to write your purchase manually but in just a few seconds, you will get your receipt right there when you need it.

I had a 3 day seminar and that made me absent from the blogosphere. The seminar venue had wifi internet connection but I chose not to be distracted with online concerns. I just checked emails, open my Facebook account and that's all. Now that the seminar is over, I am now back to blogging.

I am so thankful that I have a few tasks to write today and hopefully I can finish them the soonest.

Excited for Field Trip 2011

Next week is going to be our educational field trip. Guess what, we will be going to Dahilayan Adventure Park with my kids. We had our meeting with the parents later this afternoon and they were very excited about it. Even if they have to pay for an expensive fare in going there, they are still willing to pay.

I'm looking forward for this exciting trip. Hope it will be enjoyable and memorable for my students.

Cheap Energy

A lot of people feel that there’s just no stopping the price of commodities from going up, more so that the Christmas season is fast approaching. Sadly, people are tired from complaining because it seems that there’s no way out of this dilemma. Many are wondering what the real cause is, and most are agitated over the fact that the condition appears to be hopeless.

We went to Oro Gardens last November 2, 2011 and we decided to wear our Angry Birds shirts. I'm wearing a purple Angry Birds blouse, my sister in law in red, MIL in pink, Chloe in green and our cute Zoe in her purple little Angry Birds blouse. Beside the Christmas Tree

Even if it still a few days before Christmas everyone is now busy shopping for Christmas trees and placing some Christmas decors on their homes.

I'm now excited to put some decorations in our house but I still can't because the renovation is still on going.

While thinking about decorations and Christmas trees, I was reminded of this photo which was taken 3 years ago. My husband took this photo after we put all the Christmas decorations in the house.
