Furry Leg Boots

While scanning through magazines at the bookstore, I couldn’t help but notice that in Vogue’s fall collection, there were many fashion disasters. Big names designers such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and so on are known for their bold and most often, impractical designs however there were a few themes that I noticed with many of the designers; one being the faux-fur boots.

I don’t know about you, but I personally wouldn’t want to look like I’ve never shaved my legs before in my life. I’m all for using faux-fur. Furs for fashion is not attractive and very wrong in my opinion, but if you’re going to use faux-fur, please use it tastefully. Fur collared coats are an excellent example of using fake fur fashionably.

Being a fashion design major and having a lot of my own designs being quite bold, I try to look at daring designs with an open mind. I try to see the artistry in it, but with the furry leg boots, I just can’t. I’m sorry, but the fashion industry has failed us on this one.

Despite the fact that the models that present these designs look sickly to the point that we all want to shove a cake down their throat, these boots are so completely unattractive and uncanny.

I don’t want everything I say about these boots to be negative (although it seems to be the majority of my opinion), but all I can say at this point is… Nice effort? Maybe next year they’ll come up with something to bounce back from this.

Getting a bargain for your make up

One thing you won’t find in a make up tutorial is practical advice. Not to say that everything make up tutorials tells you is wrong, just impractical in the sense that maybe some of the people watching may not own those exact products or may not be able to afford them. For the longest time I was stuck with my Cover Girl eye shadow palettes that limited my imagination. After taking a trip down to Sephora, I found the Color Play 5 in 1 make up set that set my imagination free and it was only $30! This set provides 50 eye shadow colors, 10 lip glosses and 5 different blushes and comes with a detachable case that I can stick in my purse or take with me on trips if I needed to.

This isn’t just a gimmick to get you to buy this product, but just me sharing what a great deal I got. Before age 20, I was never really into doing my make up with the exception of eye liner, so I never know what colors will best compliment my attributes. With this assortment of colors, I could play around with different looks, mix and matching the colors to combine different looks and ideas.

The palettes are grouped into visually similar groups, but I personally use colors from many different groups to create a look. And many of the palettes contain glitter, but for those of you who are not a big fan of glitter, not to worry, there are plenty of matted colors as well.

As great of a find this is, Sephora’s make up brushes can be a bit expensive and I’ve only seen them sell them individually. With a set like this, I knew I needed a variety of brushes. I got a brush kit from Target for about $15 that includes a blush brush, concealer brush, shadow brush, smudge brush, eyeliner brush, lip brush, and a lash comb. Usually brushes would go for $15 or more each, but this brush set works great and helps display the colors from the make up set beautifully

Gaga for Fashion

Although Lady Gaga has been in the spotlight many times it’s still viable to still have something to say about her unique sense of style. Many have expressed distaste for her presentation approach, but performance aside you can’t deny that Gaga’s got style. Fresh from the runway, Lady Gaga dresses in some of the top designers’ boldest and most daring designs as well as designing her own outfits. Taking everyday objects such as telephones, toys or even cigarettes and recreating them into outfits or accessories. She has made herself an example for all to show that being different and unique is okay.

She has often been compared to Madonna who also has had an audacious way of presenting herself, but in my honest opinion, no one comes close. Gaga has inspired many of her fans or “Little Monsters” to stand out and be comfortable with who you want to be and how you want to be perceived by the world. She has even cleared the path for other celebrities such as Katy Perry and Rianna to bust out of their comfort zone and be fashion icons for the world.

To be or not to be-make up free

People mostly read make up blogs to find out what other people are doing, buying, etc… But what happens when you take off your make up? Personally, I break out while I’m wearing make up. And as we all know, acne isn’t the most desirable facial feature. I know a lot of people who don’t break out a lot and still wear make up daily, however, we’re not all like them. For myself, I don’t wear make for two or three days of the week to sort of let my skin have a break and heal it’s self after being suffocated for 4-5 days out of the week.

It’s one thing to not wear make up but keep in mind that just because you’re not wearing any make up, that doesn’t mean that the natural oils in your face aren’t clogging your pours also. Having a good facial routine is ideal. Depending on your face type, you may need more than one face wash or treatment. Proactiv is a very popular product to keep your face clean and to prevent acne. A cheaper option is buying regular drug store brands such as Clearasil, Noxema, or Aveeno. It really depends on what works best for you.

I use Aveeno in combination with Noxema because I break out really easily and just recently, I’ve started using a product that prevents acne and reduces the appearance of scars. I’ve only been using it for two days so it’s too soon to see it if works, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. If it works, then I’ll post the name of the product for everyone.
