I wish I invested in one single social network! Being spread to thin, perhaps I am truly everywhere, but some social networks require more attention than others.

With mistakes comes wisdom

Now I could say I have a broad knowledge, but no true mastery over a single social network. What I did master though is being present everywhere. And I did learn how to effectively cross post, without being spammy. It’s a form of an art, and thanks to the services like IFTTT and Hootsuite, it’s an enjoyable thing to do so.

If I started right now, what would I do differently?

I’d invest all my time in more open social networks like Twitter and Google+ in terms of content availability and quazi-openness. While these networks have open access to their content, they certainly don’t have open API’s! But you are not a developer, you are a marketer. Hence it’s different for you. It’s just “open” enough so you can operate your business.

At this moment I am attending Google Adwords event in Belgrade, hotel Moscow, hosted by Google Engage team. There are a plenty of resources on how to build and run a successful Adwords campaign.

I’ve been engaged in Online business and was supporting my clients and employers, but I think it’s time to give it some substance and bring it to the next level.

What will be the name of the new domain and what topics will I cover??

I am going to buy Bojan.me and develop it furthermore, as my personal brand on the web. Integrating my personality in the area where I really know how to sell myself, attract readership and future clients.

Back to the event…

See you on the marketing side.

Tapping into the communities

Tumblr communities are not mainstream, and seems like they have their “own thing”, but they are very well alive.

In these initial phases of Tumblr experiment…

…I’ve made a decision to invest more time in this platform and connect with more like minded people.

The result

With 0 following on my newly created account, I’ve managed to generate 20 visits through a single link shared. It’s tiny result, but an immediate ROI for my niche specific topic in area of productivity.

If you are wondering should you include Tumblr in your social media mix, don’t wonder. Just do it!

Edge rank started penalizing negative engagement factors and in return started removing posts that people react negatively to.

This creates reality bubble

It is crowdsourced form of censorship. Effects of this edge rank change can be fatal to businesses, but also creates artificial bubble reality for the users, where the only thing they will ever feel on the platform, will be positive emotions.

Creating the Bubble of feel good internet

The effect of this edge rank change brought pain to numerous business owners! Are you one of them?

This means that Facebook has a long term strategy of keeping it’s user base engaged, while at the same time they will milk the shit out of them and their private information.

If you want to be popular on Facebook, avoid politics, and post a bunch of funny photos! Kick in your positive emotion update that matters once in a while.

Data comes from the Share-o-holic info graphic.

This should tell you the fast pace of the mobile world. Also Google reported that 69% of the users leave the website if it’s not optimized for mobile.

I am not sure wether you’ve noticed it, or not. But Facebook has been driving less and less traffic to my blogs. What used to be obnoxious amount of vitis, shrink to a point of non-importance. Don’t get me wrong, Facebook still drives traffic to my website, it’s just shrunk in comparison what it used to do. And it keeps shrinking.

My Facebook page is the sticking point of it all. Ever since they’ve introduced the concept of Edge Rank, the traffic that would come through my personal publishing on my wall or on my fan page, suffered extensive diminishing returns, to a point, where I wasn’t sure is it worth publishing at all? So I didn’t. For a long time I felt guilty about it, but in 2013 a lot of things happened. There was a rise of Google + and I’ve leveraged Twitter extensively.

Not only I’ve got better engagement on Twitter (and App.Net), I’ve also started getting more traffic from these sources. On top of that, I’ve noticed that Google + engagement increased my Google Authorship rank, and helped my personal brand awareness.

So after a lot of contemplation…

…I’ve decided I had enough. Enough of thinking about Facebook as a platform that is hard for monetization. I believe that Facebook is either going to make it or break it for itself. But beside that, it’s broken beyond repair for my personal use. It’s an utter waste of time. Not only it’s not the time to run Facebook if you are a small content publishing business owner, it’s the right time to completely abandon it.

Where I do see usage of Facebook in your marketing efforts?

Facebook can be good for local stores, and small communities. If you are running a business that has a small and engaged community of clients, having Facebook makes a viable option. Also if you know who to target, you can make the leverage out of it. But that’s all I can think of Facebook in the small business scale.

Facebook for big brands is a whole different ball game. And I am not sure that I want to access that corporate world. It requires a lot of 9 to 5-ing, that I am presently active in, and I think I want a break from it.

For those who whine how this isn’t fair

It’s not. But we knew it. We knew it years back. We knew that our fans, aren’t our fans. We knew that Facebook our fanpage is not the property of our own, and that’s that. I am sorry if you invested a lot into your Facebook presence, I really do, but it was a risk, that some people monetized on, and some people failed to monetize.

Either way it was a good lesson. Do you feel betrayed? Ofcourse you do! I feel for you. I knew better not to trust Zuckerberg. And now I am reaping the profits of my smart business decision.

So what is my next social media move?

I am starting to feel this way about Twitter now. That’s why I am not putting all of my eggs in the Twitter basket. I feel that Google + is doing alright for now, and it will for the time to come. And right now, I am on the forefront of trying out something new.

I am experimenting with new platforms like App.net (yes, a paid social network), and Google +. Seems like these two will have the most radical impact on my social media presence, and will drive me the traffic that I actually need. I am also experimenting with Tumblr. These aren’t exactly the mainstream social media channels, neither of them. But I foresee the pretty good future for all of them.

Google + and authorship integration is a pretty big deal for your SEO. Not only it helps you raise awarness in search results, as an early adopter, it is also helping your branding.

Now that I’ve got all of these Tumblr blogs, I gotta find a way to include Google + authorship into this part of my online existence. Seems like I am running 5 blogs now. At least each and every one of them has a different purpose.

But as all that different writing on different websites accumulates itself, it means that it will increase my overall authorship rank. Which might be the new page rank.

In 2013 you definitively need to pay closer attention to Google Authorship, as it brought me results in the previous period of testing. The easiest way so far is to implement it through Yoast SEO plugin.

I admit it, I’ve started to feel like running a job with this blog, and it killed a lot of joy for me and my blogging effort. Setting some standards with content expectations, formatting and other quite probably completely unimportant things unrelated to the primary purpose of this blog.

So what is the primary purpose of this blog?

To help you learn from my lessons. Will formatting help? It might to some people, it might not to another. Is it critical? Definitively not. At least I don’t feel like it is. I don’t know why am I guilt tripping myself into sitting in front of the laptop, when I can publish right off my iPhone?

Sometimes I don’t want to do it right…

…I want to do what’s fun. And today publishing from iPhone seems like massive fun. It will let me do what I am supposed, while I don’t have to force myself into sitting at the table while I am sick. Being sick blows.

I feel as if I need a break from daily pressure!

Blogging is quite taxing, so no wonder so many people fail to achieve anything from it. You really need to BE A BLOGGER, before you can make a living out of it. I know I am on a good path, but on some days you just feel like you’re not moving anywhere… And often there are no shortcuts. There seems to be no shortcut to success!

You’ve gotta earn it. And if you don’t have your lucky star, you’ve gotta earn it. It’s not gonna magically fall out of the sky, you have to get out there and get it!

Gotta love being a Rebel, feels good, knowing you’re doing it right.
