Our driver is driving like a mad, or more appropriately, like a wrestler. He is continously using his all four hands and legs, sounding his horn, changing lanes and peeking through gaps for a lead.
Well, this is not very unusual here in dhaka, almost eighty parcent of public transport drivers drive in this way, like i said in last post, you will get afraid. These drivers would lost their license in ten minutes, if they drive car in any western country.
They made the road a hell. Don't you dare compete with them in the road, your car will get smashed in minutes.
If you have any options, avoid dhaka in evening at any cost.
<!--

Its right past 6:30 pm, i have just stepped out of the office and got stuck in the jam. I am in officie microbus, and it cannot get out of the office premise.

This is an ordinary scene everyday, we look to the busy road before we ride onto the micro. Everyday we expect for less traffic, but never get that. Its already past six minutes after we started, and we are still there, right infront of our office building.

Sitting in the midst of jam is a boring experience. But we have to endure it everyday. Thats why most of us devised our own way to pass time. Like i watched people passing me, sitting around my vehicle, moving in the opposite lane. Its sort of interesting. You will find a lot of variations in dress, sitting style, talking patterns, walking style, even peeking into others mobile screen to see what they do.

If you look around, you will find a lot of tech gadgets people use. Almost everyone is either listening to mobile radio, playing games in mobile, listening music in mobiles and ipods, watching vedio in ipads and laptops. People are doing this sitting right in the jam. They have to pass time, right.

In most cases, severity of jam increases mostly because taking u-turns, moving in the opposite directions and abrupt lane changing. This is a very normal process of driving, right here in dhaka. If you are from outside Bangladesh, you will get scared in the midst of reckless driving. Yet the rate of accidents in this situation is comparatively low. This is the trivial situtation in dhaka. But you will find very different scenerio in othe cities in bangladesh.

It takes straight 20 minutes to pass a 5 minutes walking distance using the microbus. Is it sufficient to understand how dhaka looks like in the evening, after the office time?

This is a poor country, but you will not see the reflection in roads. At this moment, there is no pulic bus around me, i see only private cars. Cars, pajeros, rovers, micros, suvs, wagons.
Hey, do you know what is the most costly vehicle in dhaka? It is rickshaw. It will carry two to three people at a time, will run by a puller using physical strength and will demand a high pay. There are some motor driven rickshaws apeearing though, but they do not contribute to reduce the fare.

Living in dhaka is expensive, painful and challenging. Yet it provides you oppurtunity, like all big cities in the world. You will find some people looking for luck, right in the middle of traffic jam. You need to see it yourself to understand what i am saying.

Whatever, my fingers are protesting and my head is spinning as i write from my mobile. Lets finish it here for now. If you are reading this post, consider to visit me time to time, for getting updates about random topics, published write from my mobile.

<!--

So I did that in due time. I have Sifat and Tuhin in group, they are okay with me. That's good enough for me. We choose our head of the department as thesis supervisor, as we had chances for him. Now we are doing thesis under him.

Our topic is "small scale wind power generation for home based utilization". Though the
subject title dictates we should work with small scale power generation, our teacher insist continuously to think in broader scale. Therefore, we are in a dilemma and working without a plan.

Like most teacher in here, our thesis adviser is very busy with his departmental work, we cannot get a good amount of fruitful time from him, though I think he is giving as much time as he can out of his highly demanding time. After all, he is the head of the department.

We have collected some data from different sources and working with them at this moment. Our adviser is supposed to leave his post in this June, we are hoping that we would be able to manage some more time from him. If we can, I really want to beleive, he will show us some effective guideline.

I will be posting updates on my thesis regularly, so if you want to know what I am doing, keep coming back.
<!--

(To those people who do not know what Saint Martin is--it is the only coral island of Bangladesh and is amazingly beautiful.)

And to those people who know what is it, interested to go there but do not know much about it- I am writing this post for you just to provide some information about the place.

(Disclaimer: all the data are taken from internet, mostly from a site named www.somewhereinblog.net )

You can go Saint Martin Island by bus service and then but trawler or ship. The bus will take you to TEKNAF and then you need to take sea-truck or trawler. Among the non-AC bus, you can travel by MODERN LINE or S.ALAM bus service. It will cost almost 560 Taka (Bangladeshi currency). AC bus service is also available. It is “Saint Martin
Express”, starts from KOLBAGAN, DHAKA. The bus is actually Mercedes. The phone number to contact is 01817210422-3. Its destination is TEKNAF, from where a ship called KEARI SINBAD leaves for Saint Martin Island. It will start at 9:30 from Teknaf and 3:30 from Saint Martin. You need to leave the bus at EAGLE/KUTUBDIUA GHAT, you may ask the supervisor or conductor of the bus to tell you when the particular place comes.

Don’t go to TEKNAF town, because then you need to get back 18 km.
You can have some snacks there, but don’t mind if you don’t find that satisfactory.
You can order tickets from DHAKA for sea-truck. Eagle or KUTUBDIA are the services for sea-truck.

Phone numbers of EAGLE are 01713145584, 01190124127. They have three classes of tickets, lower floor (cost 650 taka), and first floor (cost 700 taka) and executive class (cost 750 taka) (AC). Most people actually enjoyed the view of NAF River after they boarded on sea-truck. I think it is useless to buy tickets for executive class.
The departure time for sea-truck is 9:30 and it will start timely. You can enjoy the amazing views of the river and eventually you will approach the sea, you cannot imagine how much blue the sea can be…

After reaching the island, you may find some vehicle which will offer you a trip to your resort. They will demand 10 taka person, but will take 5 taka if you bargain. Please note, if not contacted earlier, it is very difficult to find a place in good resorts. Yet you may find some people looking for guests for their hotel. They are not very good, but can be used as a place to crash. But don’t give them more than 700 taka.

Here are contact numbers of some resorts…
Blue Marine- 8801819063418, 8801722473613
Obokash- 88028358485, 88029342351 (need to contact from dhaka)
Pacific resort- 8801732434264 (at Saint Martin), 8801712643694 (DHAKA)
Shaibal- 8801815014664

You may find rooms at 700-1000 taka except blue marine, obokash, shaibal. But they will ask a bigger amount firstly, you need to bargain.
You must go to SERA DIP if you go to Saint Martin. You can find engine boat and speed boat. 5/6 person can travel by speed boat. It will charge 1000 taka for up-down. Engine boat will charge 100 taka per person. There is also a submarine faced boat which will cost 200 taka per person.
<!--

But I didn't like that. So I started searching for some online help and find a website called Cramster.com. This site is visited by people who are passionate to their subject and they are really helpful. They really help to find the answers.

This site has exciting features including textbook help, Q&A board, Resources, Practice and Study blogs.
The textbook help feature is amazing. They let you choose specific subject such as math, biology, electrical engg. mechanical engg. physics etc.

Then they let you choose some books on your subject. They support 6 books on biology, 25 on chemistry, 25 on CSE, 25 on EEE, 119 on Math, 14 on ME and 65 on Physics. When you choose a category, they will show you the name
of the books supported and then you can find chapter wise solution.

This site also got a page for question and answer. You can ask and answer a question there.

They have another option for practice. You know the importance of that!!!!

And as a bonus, you can find some resources which can be very helpful.

And dear friends, take a look at their electrical engineering collection. That's really rich.

Worried about scholarship? Ok,sit tight...

I'm an engineering student and is obsessed with the thought to go abroad, especially to USA or Europe. But I found, when seriously thinking about the subject, that I actually know nothing about getting a scholarship or how to apply for it. From my country every year some people go abroad for study with proper funding. So I was trying to collect info from them. Now, I know something about the procedure.
I think I should write them so that others may find something practical in the web. What I know now are the previous experiences of our senior BUETians. They shared
their experiences and views and we know from these. What I'm going to write are fully taken from the yahoo groups BUETian. I'll write the preliminary ideas and will share their experiences later. Actually, those experiences will make the best part of your understanding about the topic.

I'm listing some points today and will write elaborately in later posts.

1. GRE is the most important fact that most of the time matters alone in order to
get a scholarship.
2. The common concept of having high cgpa (as a mandatory condition) is not
correct, though it is highly important if you are hoping to get a chance at a top
school.
3. Low CGPA does get scholarships, so cheer up.
4. There are some differences between M.Sc. and M.Engg.
5. The way someone should act when a professor calls from abroad.(will be written in the later posts)
6. Always apply for several scholarships.
7. See the criteria of selecting a university.
8. You should download the pdf file from this link. (From skydrive-hotmail)
http://cid-a057a99d3ea595e0.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public?uc=1
9. Korea and Singapore can be a destination (for PhD) also.
10. You should not make your CV so large that will disturb your professor.
<!--

Obviously, you should not use your name or something equally transparent. However, even a random word provides a little security against a determined intruder-some hackers use tools that try every word in the dictionary. By observing the following guide lines, you can create a password that is difficult to crack in a reasonable amount of time.

# Most important of all, check and double check the website address in the address bar, it will keep you safe from being scammed.

# Use at least eight characters. Longer is better, which is why
some security experts suggest to use pass phrase. A password or phrase can include spaces and punctuation; in windows, the maximum length is 127 characters.

# Use a mixture of uppercase letters, lower case letters, numbers and punctuation.

# Avoid including your name or user name in the password.

# Use random sequences instead of words or intersperse numbers and punctuation within words( for example, Bo~!jROniNAd)

# You may create different password for different sites by modifying your existing password. For example,if you use bojroninad in one site, use 2ojroninad in another just by replacing b by 2.

With a little thought, it's pretty easy to come up with a password that is memorable and secure. For example-start with a phrase about yourself or your hobbies- one that you can easily remember, such as I'm addicted to travel. Make a few letter substitution, misspell a few words and you amy come up with I'm +icted to trabe!l.

And forget to write your password in any places, just keep them in your mind.
<!--

They are probably a large group and have already taken control of BDR Headquarter. They also took a public market just beside the their headquarter under their control. These rebels are heavily armed and they are shooting towards the Bangladesh Army and RAB(Rapid action battalion). Also, they took the control of two college inside their premise and black smoke is seen coming out from these college campuses.

The reason of such rebellion, according to them, is the inequality in salary and some operation they have conducted for people in recent days by the governments order. One BDR soldier managed to come out when the incident happens and he went to surrender according to the government order, but local police has not arrested him. He says he does not know the reason behind this rebellion and he escaped just the moment he heard the sound of gunfire.

Bangladesh Army took position surrounding the BDR Headquarter and they are heavily armed. TV channel live broadcast shows that they are preparing for heavy fighting. Army is carrying machine gun and some canons of small size. Also, helicopter is seen in the sky above the BDR Headquarter. They were dropping hand bills for BDR soldiers from the helicopter.

Bangladesh government take this matter very seriously and they told that they want to talk with the rebels and Prime-minister will talk personally to these rebels. One under secretary and the Chief whip of Jatio Sangsad is already present at the position to talk with them. State minister is given the responsibilty to control the situation.

To see video footage of this incident, click here.(this link is forbidden from today morning,so far I know)
<!--

So , before you go on, ask yourself a few questions.
1. How much do you earn, is that sufficient?
2. How much you understand women.
3. How much tolerant you are.
4. Are you physically fit?
5. How much you respect others.
6. Are you capable of changing your decision if necessary?
7. Are you a man of short temper, or like to observe where the situation goes?
8. How do you express your anger? Do you shout, break things!!! (Don’t do that, it will make situation worse and will make you loser at the end.)
9. Are you a bit squeaky?
10. Can you value others good sides or characteristic?
11. Do you suffer from superiority complex?

If you are in love and are in a desperate situation to marry, then you have no need to ask yourself the above questions. But if you think that you have organized your life and now you are ready to marry, then to be sure about that, you need to ask yourself the above questions. And please do not suggest yourself to marry unless you get positive and pro-active answers from your heart. It will just make the life hell if you choose a wrong decision about the time at this moment.
<!--

No problem, you can yet access the computer.

When an administrator removes or changes your password for local account, you no longer have access to your encrypted files and e-mail messages. That's because your master key, which is needed to unlock your personal encryption certificate is encrypted with a hash that includes your password. when the password changes, the master key is no longer accessible. To regain access to the master key and to your desired files, change your password to your old password. Alternatively, use your password reset disk to change your password.

When you change your own password(through user account or with password reset disk). windows use your old password to decrypt the master key and then re-encrypts it with the new password, so your encrypted files and e-mail msg. remain accessible.
<!--

So,it is expected to recognize all disk controller. But unfortunately sometimes it does not. For those case, you need to provide your driver CD. If setup doesn't recognize your disk controller,it will prompt you to provide a driver when you see "Where do you want to install windows?", simply remove the windows Vista DVD and insert your disk containing the storage driver( it is actually the HARD DISK's driver, you can find it on web or even you can provide that by inserting previous Windows Xp CD.) then reinsert the Windows Vista DVD.
<!--

Sensors are connected to a control unit via either a low-voltage hardware
or narrow band RF signal, which in turn connects to a means for announcing
the alarm, hopefully to elicit some response. The most common security sensors indicate the opening of a door or window or detect motion via passive
infrared (PIR). In new construction systems are predominately hardwired
for economy while in retrofits wireless systems may be more economical and
certainly quicker to install. Some systems are dedicated to one mission, others handle fire, intrusion, and safety alarms simultaneously. Sophistication
ranges from small, self-contained noisemakers, to complicated, multi-zoned
digital systems with color-coded computer monitor outputs. Many of these
concepts also apply to portable alarms for protecting cars, trucks or other
vehicles and their contents.

Access Control

Access Control and Bypass Codes To be useful, an intrusion alarm system is
deactivated or reconfigured when authorized personnel are present. Authorization may be indicated in any number of ways, often with keys or codes
used at the control panel or a remote panel near an entry. High-security
alarms may require multiple codes, or a fingerprint, badge, hand-geometry,
retinal scan, encrypted response generator, or other means that are deemed
sufficiently secure for the purpose. Failed authorizations should result in an
alarm or at least a timed lockout to prevent "experimenting" with possible
codes. Some systems can be configured to permit deactivation of individual
sensors or groups. Others can also be programmed to bypass or ignore individual sensors (once or multiple times) and leave the remainder of the system
armed. This feature is useful for permitting a single door to be opened and
closed before the alarm is armed, or to permit a person to leave, but not
return. High-end systems allow multiple access codes, and may even permit
them to be used only once, or on particular days, or only in combination with
other users' codes (i.e., escorted). In any case, a remote monitoring center
should arrange an oral code to be provided by an authorized person in case
of false alarms, so the monitoring center can be assured that a further alarm
response is unnecessary. As with access codes, there can also be a hierarchy
of oral codes, say, for furnace repair person to enter the kitchen and basement sensor areas but not the silver vault in the butler's pantry. There are
also systems that permit a "duress" code to be entered and silence the local
alarm, but still trigger the remote alarm to summon the police to a robbery.
<!--

This mail actually explain the tricky part of the so called invention about crating electricity without fuel. If you don't have time, then just look at the bold faced letters. The author of this post is a current student of BUET and he himself visited the inventor. I copied his post.

Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 23:10:33
Subject: Re: [BUETian] Re: Latest News: Electricity without fuel

hello everyone,

At first I would like to apologize if the mail becomes long..

I think many have seen the news of the fuel less power plant in the newspapers and it was published with much importance in many national dailies around 1st half of january this year. Hearing the news I with two of my friends(They are also from BUET) went to see the power plant..

When we went there, we heard from the persons there that all the big companies of bangladesh are contacting them and even some are coming from DUBAI to buy his invention(!! )

at first the inventor denied to talk with us after 3 hrs waiting, he came to talk with us.. and he talked for a short time in which we were not satisfied..and the next day a meeting with him was arranged with the help of local correspondent of prothom alo.. In which we got chance to talk with him for about 2 hrs..

Now coming to the point.. what he explained.. He first uses a 3 kw dc motor.. it rotates..and 3 kw rotaional power is given as input to a mechanical input which he claims to have discovered.. this mechanical unit converts 3kw power to 30 kw(here is no external input escept 3kw rotational power) and as 30 kw power(rotational) is produced and it is given as input to a alternator which produces 30 kw electrical power... and from this 30 kw out put power one supply is given as input to the 3 kw dc motor and 27 kw is given to other outputs such as fan, lights.. and this 3 kw again produces 30 kw and 3 kw is again returned from the 30 kw output and in this way the machine is running with its own output and even supplying(!) outside and thus he produces a 'perpetual motion machine which also gives output to others'...

THE TRICK: after analyzing his diagram we discussed where the tick was.. as the 3kw output returned from alternator was AC power and he needed DC power for the DC motor input, he used a rectifier.. and he says that for intial 3kw input(which will start his perpetual motion machine) he used a 3 kw battery.. the battery was DC and DC was again converted to AC using an IPS(coming to this point later) and this AC was converted to DC using rectifier as mentioned earlier..HERE IS THE TRICK.. Why should he need an IPS to convert AC from DC whereas inverter is available.. And the cost of the IPS was 2.5 lakhs and he claimed it to buy from outside bangladesh.. . Though he denied to disclose the rating of the IPS but it is a common sense that a IPS of taka 2.5 laks was enough to power the units he showed in the demonstartion. . He also said that his invention cant supply power for more than 2 hrs...Here we get it..And IPS also cant supplt power for more than this
period of time.So here it goes.. all the units were being powered from the IPS for two hrs and after that he denied to show any demonstration. .

He denied to run the machine to such an extent that,, When an army official asked him to run the machine after 3 days when the General of army was scheduled to visit dinajpur..the Army official said him that if he runs the machine after 3 days, he could arrange a visit from the General to his plant.. But he denied that offer..He said that it was not possible.. Then what demonstration could he give to us....

FINAL NOTE:

We could convince the local administration that this type of discovery was not possible we also explained them the trick... Finally they decided to have it examined by experts and after that we have no news from the inventor.

We see that during the demonstration of this type of invention no technical experts are present..Only we find is prominent businessmen and some from the chamber of commerce..

I also like to request the businessmen to NOT donate money to this type of lame project where there is many desreving people in BD who really can make a difference..

Again I apologize for the length of the mail.. I needed all those words to explain it correctly... If there is any further query, I willl be very glad to answer those..

Regards
AK sagar
Dept of EEE
L-3 T-1
<!--

Now a page(from the Google itself)will appear on which you can see the word UNIVERSITY SEARCH. click there. Then a page will appear with a lot of university name in it.Click a name.Again a search box will appear. Write what you want to search in it,for example, you can write "etd"(stands for electronic thesis document). You will be taken to that university page(actually on their online library page). You can find a lot of thesis on the renowned university e.g. Caltech, MIT etc. It is possible to download most of the thesis from there though you can find some thesis as protected.

I downloaded some thesis from Caltech and you know, a good thesis can contribute a lot, sometimes even better than journals.

Hope you enjoy a good thesis hunting.
<!--

First, you’ll need to show hidden files and folders. From My Computer go to Tools, select Folder options, then View, Advanced Settings, then choose Hidden Files and Folders and tick ‘Show hidden files and folders’. Then click OK. Now open Firefox and click on the Bookmarks menu, then select Organise Bookmarks. In the Window that opens, go to the File tabl and select Import. In the next box choose ‘From File’.

Navigate to My Computer, then go to C: drive, Documents and Settings, Your username, then Application Data, then Mozilla, Firefox, Profiles, then xxxx.default (where xxxx is a seemingly random sequence of numbers). Next select Bookmark Backups, select a date and choose Open. This should hopefuly show your missing bookmarks. It’s also wise to change back the hidden files setting when you’ve finished.(I took this article from another site.)
<!--
