How are cable news channels doing these days during all these huge Obama-gate scandals? There’s at least got to be some good news in that segment of the economy right?

At least you’d think so. But MSNBC is failing just when there’s so much news to talk about, so much to question government about and to then reveal what’s been discovered, and to report as truths to their audience who are thirsting for real knowledge and facts, and to fully inform them so they can make wise or wiser decisions next time they get the chance (i.e. 2014 and 2016), etc.

Then again, I started out talking about news channels, then went to MSNBC. This is incongruous. The left-wing news and Obama/MoveOn.org talking-points parrot, MSNBC, is flopping like a dieing fish on a dock, having just been caught. Only in this case, we think we’ve caught them and their world of lies. (I know – holy mixed metaphor, Batman!)

Ironically, “The more you know,” as the NBC public service announcement slogan used to go, helps us here. The more you know what MSNBC actually is, and what’s really going on here, the smarter you will be.

Before we discuss this and the facts (I know – that’s racist!!!), here’s part of the article which got me “all ginned-up” as Barack Obama likes to call conservatives who are about to reveal truths about him:

By DOMINIC PATTEN | Monday May 20, 2013 @ 4:44pm PDT

The scandals of the Obama administration seem to be hurting not just the White House but MSNBC as well, while Fox News Channel has just scored its second-best week of the year. After double-digit gains during last year’s presidential election, May 13-17 saw the progressive-aligned “Lean Forward” news network hit new lows as the IRS scandal erupted and revelations that the Justice Department secretly obtained AP records became public. With 350,000 viewers on average and 94,000 in the adults 25-54 demo, MSNBC had its least-watched and lowest-rated total-day results of the year last week. That was also the lowest total-day demo result the network has had since the week of June 26-July 2, 2006, when MSNBC pulled in just 83,000 viewers among adults 25-54, according to Nielsen data.

Related: Fox News Tops 2012 Cable News Network Ratings; MSNBC Up

For MSNBC, last week’s total day results were down 17% in viewers and 22% among the demo from the comparable May 14 to May 18 week of last year. In primetime, the numbers were even worse as a steady decline from the beginning of the year continued. The network had 570,000 total viewers and 159,000 in the demo from 8-11 PM from May 13 to May 17, 2013. That’s the lowest-rated week of the year so far for MSNBC in terms of viewers and the third-lowest of 2013 in the demo. The week of May 6-12 was worst in the demo with 148,000 viewers when the network had 604,000 viewers on average. These latest results come as the news network’s recently launched and struggling All In With Chris Hayes hit a new viewership los of 396,000 and its second-lowest demo audience of just 88,000 on May 14. It also comes on the heels of MSNBC falling in April ratings from its second place ranking of the year before. …

When a news channel has become nothing but a water-carrying camel to a left-wing government which dictates to it the news and talking points to be parroted, and the news is about a government which stinks with corruption, well, the news channel flounders just like the dictating presidency itself. (Yessir, again with the mixed metaphor-a-palooza.)

And when the president sets up a pretense of not knowing nuttin’ about nuttin’, we are seeing how his media wing is acting likewise, barely reporting on any of the scandals. The audience will have to go elsewhere.

We know they – MSNBC at least – know plenty. So this omission of particular news stories in their reportage is strange behavior for a “news” organization which used to use the slogan “the more you know.” Apparently the less you know, the better for them, given their choice to be Obama camels.

The fish rots from the head down.

I take no joy in the failure of… oh I can’t even pretend. Let’s be honest. I’m thrilled that once again, the mindset of the common progressive is once again on display in all its failuretude.

We’ve seen how President Obama has pretended (you can go ahead and read this as “lied”) about “not knowing” or of his having “just found out” (from “the newspapers”!) about the latest in his growing record of failures and scandals. If you haven’t seen, then read today’s daily email from Jim Geraghty of National Review for an info top-up. For example:

…Obama didn’t know the IRS was targeting conservatives until he read it in the papers. He didn’t know about “Fast and Furious” until he read it in the papers, too. He has “complete confidence” in Holder, and didn’t know about the decision to collect the phone records of reporters. He didn’t know about the investigation into CIA director David Petraeus’s affair. He told Letterman during the election he didn’t know what the national debt was. He didn’t know about the AIG bonuses in the TARP legislation. He said he didn’t know how bad the economic crisis was when he took office.

That “empty chair” metaphor from the Republican convention was so out of line, huh? …

In MSNBC’s perfidy and failure we see what happens when the Barack hits the fan. It and its fanboys have buried their heads in the sand to establish some sort of plausible deniability, just like their Barack Obama. All avoid culpability by simply “not knowing.” Or so they thought.

But some (OK, me) have also suggested that with, say, the IRS scandal (that’s Obama scandal number 57D for you who are playing the home version), the IRS may well have not been explicitly “instructed” by Obama or his administration to invoke tyranny upon the conservative and tea party groups seeking tax-exempt status before the last election. It may just be that the Obamatrons have simply become even more useful idiots. They are now fully awash in his culture of anti-conservative political partisanship and division, and, taking after him, are reflexively against anybody who opposes his left-wing manifesto of “fundamentally transforming America.” The theory goes that they honestly thought and think they were and are still doing the right thing. Obama’s claim to fame was, after all, his “community organizer” skills. So he has succeeded in this sphere.

Like me, Jonah Goldberg and several others (’cause like I’m in that same group, intellectually, don’tchaknow) also assert this theory.

… Throughout his presidency, Obama has set a very clear tone.

He’s made it clear that people who disagree with him are fevered, illegitimate, weird, creepy, dangerous, stupid, confused, ignorant or some other adjective you might assign to a revamped version of the seven dwarves. He’s explained that he doesn’t mind “cleaning up after” after Republicans but he doesn’t want to hear “a lot of talking” from them….

I’ve often said that liberals in the media are so liberal they don’t even know how liberal they are. Commentary.com’s Jonathan S. Tobin would also seem to agree.

… Add this all together and what you get is a picture of an agency that has so thoroughly absorbed the views of its political masters that it doesn’t even recognize when it has crossed the line into illegal activity. …

You’d think Obama could be taken at his word when he says he is “outraged” and “angry”. But here’s what he and his henchmen are really thinking: Eureka! It’s working!

The more you know.

I’ve joked about the liberal mainstream media enjoying “Obamagasms” since the day he started campaigning before his first term. But the look on Barack Obama’s spokesman Jay Carney’s face at today press conference, presumably taking place immediately after meeting with Obama and together discussing the planned spin du jour or lies du jour, reminded me of Woody Allen playing Miles Monroe in Sleeper, as Miles emerged from the orgasmatron (not to be confused with the creepy Obama “Orb” as seen at right).

Maybe Carney was trying to goad the media into remembering the delights they used to enjoy as they experienced self-induced Obamagasms for these past several years. Ah, good times, huh, comrades? he seemed to be thinking.

Maybe Carney should have included that Miles Monroe photo in his idiotic photo montage which he displayed with a monologue this morning, as he tried his hardest to joke (yes, make jokes, in light of some of the most damning scandals in modern U.S. history) about the latest scandals heatedly discussed (as in denied) at yesterday’s Obama-gate spinapalooza. It was an embarrassing bit of theater – an effort at mocking the seriousness with which some media are taking the latest scandals involving corruption and distinct notes of tyranny, from within the Obamagasmatron.

Carney’s attempt at humor in light of the fate of the United States of America as a democracy instead of a tyranny dropped like a brick, to no laughter that I could hear, by the way.

I’m pretty sure Carney and Obama enjoyed a smoke afterwards.

The grownups have a thing or two to explain to the, well, liberals and abortionists:

‘Stop Being a Baby’

Infanticide and the infantilization of women.

By JAMES TARANTO

“How safe is abortion?” asks the frequently-asked-questions page of the Potomac Family Planning Center, a regional chain of four abortion stores in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The answer: “Very safe. Our doctors are gynecologists who have years of experience specializing in abortion care. It’s unusual to have even minor problems.”

Tell that to Desiree Hawkins. Kirsten Powers reported in USA Today recently on what happened when Hawkins, now 20, visited Potomac’s Hagerstown, Md., shop as a pregnant 16-year-old:

The clinic told her she was 19 weeks pregnant and referred her to [Philadelphia abortionist Kermit] Gosnell. When she recently retrieved her file in anticipation of testifying [at Gosnell's murder trial], she was shocked that her sonogram showed she had in fact been at 21 weeks, which meant she would have been 23 weeks pregnant by the time Gosnell performed the abortion. “I was so overwhelmed and hurt,” said Hawkins. “If I had known I was 23 weeks, I would have (chosen) adoption.”

She also would have avoided the trauma visited upon her by Gosnell. Hawkins described the licensed medical professional as laughing at her during the procedure as she cried and begged him to stop because of the pain. “Stop being a baby,” he said.

“Stop being a baby.” You know what we do to babies around here.

This story reminded us of the first item we wrote about the Gosnell case, back in January 2011 when he had just been indicted…

This is just the opening of James Taranto’s daily must-read column in the Wall Street Journal, today. Aside from the words keep reading, I’m always left speechless when discussing the Kermit Gosnell trial. I admit, though, that I always try to eke out a few choice words for the corrupt, abortion-industry-defending liberal mainstream media, who refuse to cover this story for their purely political (liberal-left) and ideological (abortion-industry-defending) reasons.

So here’s today’s choice words: the liberal-left mainstream media seem to treat the truth about the Kermit Gosnell story as if it were another newly born bothched-abortion baby.

And my usual sign-off to abortion stories: abortion is the most disgusting thing ever thought of by humans.

I get a palpable sense that it’s not just me and the usual Republican or conservative or at least right-thinking punditry and luminaries like the esteemed Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer, whose column this week is entitled “Obama: The fall”, and author and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan, who are sensing a change in tide. Noonan Tweeted yesterday,

There are 44 months left to Mr. Obama’s presidency. He’s not a lame duck, he’s just lame. online.wsj.com/article/SB1000…

— Peggy Noonan (@Peggynoonannyc) May 3, 2013

In their most recent columns, they both point to Obama’s fall from grace and any hope of a positive legacy. More on that in a bit.

There’s so much more gong on out there. And it’s not just the fortunes of President Obama (falling) about which people – even uncommitted or non-partisan people – are taking notice of, and fighting with words and sundry postings in Twitter accounts or blogs. It’s the Obamamania media, a large part of which is stuck on stupid and refuses to acknowledge they are getting caught in their own left-wing, progressive-politics-advocating biases and lies, which people are fighting back against. And that will fertilize the liberal mainstream media’s already seeded downfall.

Good, I say.

I find more and more citizens and an increasing number of well-equipped citizen journalists are looking askance at Team Progressive and their tactics – the deception, the division into classes or BS percentages (“we are the __%!”) , the projection, the obfuscation, what the media chooses to report and how, and what they choose NOT to report and why. The outright lies told by President Obama, and his pathological habit of engaging in some of the most malodorous, partisan politics and destructive politics of division: it’s starting to grate on the American people.

It’s particularly this odious partisanship – this seemingly endless attack-oriented campaigning – where he engages in hateful partisanship and then, sometimes the very next day, risibly blames and bashes his opponents of acting exactly as he, and only he, has been. He’s supposed to be the unifier. He’s the opposite. He’s supposed to fix just these problems. He’s making things worse. On purpose!

Both he and more generally the Democrats, liberals, mainstream media, academia, the trusty old Obama-loving liberal Hollywood, and the many professional left-wing advocacy industry lobbyists like the race-baiting industry and the feminist industry and the abortion industry, are more and more getting caught and called-out for their corruption of lies, hypocrisy, political advocacy, coverups, and whitewashes. Caught and called-out by plain folks.

And I love it. We are the 53%!

Here’s an excellent caught-on-tape video example of a citizen who happened to be there while another one of those useful idiot news reporters (from NBC) is caught red-handed purposely (or at the very least, through her willful ignorance) failing to report the whole story – which we should view in juxtaposition to how she or any of the mainstream media might have reported on a nice, peaceful tea party rally. This happened at the recent May Day mayhem in Manhattan, which almost nobody in the media (except possibly in Seattle where there were also outrageous anti-capitalist and violent left-wing riots) bothered to cover — on account of it being another left-wing riot of left-wing mobs, instead of it being conservatives (which, if it were, they’d be sure to point out with a six-part series of news reports).

Let’s watch: (http://dailycaller.com/2013/05/03/wnbc-reporter-ida-siegal-doesnt-know-what-the-hammer-sickle-symbol-represents/)

These reporters – these investigating journalism sleuths – are the same people who went to the ends of the earth to find the one “extreme” placard at any tea party rally that said anything other than “good afternoon, cuppa tea?” And when they couldn’t find one, they just made it up. This recent left-wing-caused May Day violence is something like you never, ever, see conservatives or the tea party engaging in. No, not at those always peaceful and generally upbeat and mostly family-oriented tea party rallies, no, not ever.

Other recent examples of the left’s glib treachery abound – and as usual, it’s the right-thinking blogosphere, and Fox News Channel, and very few others (CNN’s Jake Tapper and the liberal Fox News contributor Kirsten Powers being two of the few notable exceptions) who are pointing out the corruption.

The Kermit Gosnell abortion/murder trial and its lack of coverage is a news story which is only slowly becoming a story – ironically one now dominated more by mea culpas from the mainstream media for its failure to report on it – and only after being embarrassed by conservative Tweeters and bloggers and of course Fox News Channel, The Daily Caller, Weekly Standard, Twitchy.com, and similar truth-tellers, including the indispensable DrudgeReport.com.

The coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings, in which the media tried its very hardest to be just like the Obama administration vis-à-vis Benghazi (you’ll remember they tried to lie to you and blame it on some benign YouTube video), and particularly at the left-wing joke of a news network MSNBC which tried as best they could to once again blame “right-wingers,” made for pure comedy gold. But it provided another excellent example of another phony narrative – which only a few years ago, the media might have gotten away with. Instead of facing up to the more obvious notion of the bombing being a terrorist attack and the result of radical Islamic jihadists, they were forced, rather quickly, and more quickly than they would have liked by this new and growing army of newly vigilant citizens, to actually acknowledge the truth. You know, sort of like what journalists are supposed to do.

The truth helps ruin the phony Obama narrative that Islamic terrorism and Islamic jihadism are but a thing of the past, what with Obama’s brave slaying of Usama bin Laden, and his doctrine of Islamist appeasement, and his downgrading of American power, and of course that “hope and change” thing.

Now, we have an excellent example of the continued unraveling of potentially the biggest of them all – the Obama (aided and abetted by his adoring, corrupt media) coverup of what we – and they, as we now know – knew was always a terrorist attack – possibly al Qaeda-linked – on the embassy in Benghazi Libya. The excellent reporting by Stephen Hayes at the conservative Weekly Standard about newly discovered proof of an Obama administration coverup, makes this a must-read for anyone interested in history, and truth, and honesty in government, instead of lies and Obama-style power politics. I and most of the right-thinking blogosphere have been shouting “coverup” since just after that horrific Benghazi attack happened and the Obamatons started blaming a YouTube video in place of the truth, and it’s finally getting more attention now. But again, only because the severity of the facts are being exposed, and the fact that the facts simply can’t be willfully ignored any more, because of the likes of “us”.

Back to those columns by Krauthammer, and Noonan: They both write this week of the failure of Obama. So much more can be said, and so much more will be. But I already know I will always look back on these years not just as the predictable years of the failed Barack Obama regime, but more specifically at how the mainstream media – and make no mistake it’s his media – was finally so caught up in its lies and perfidy and its left-wing or so-called “progressive” advocacy, that the regular people of the world started catching up – and ending it.

It’s not just Obama who failed, as Krauthammer and Noonan have written – it’s the media. And the people are winning.

I’m a pro-gun rights advocate because I’m sane, and because I’m a conservative and believe in my individual rights and freedoms such as the fundamental right to defend myself.

President Obama’s anti-gun, pro-gun-control, multimillion dollar bully-pulpit campaign (and oh by the way, convenient political fund-raising stunt), currently taking place across the country aboard Air Force One at a taxpayer cost of untold millions, is ridiculous and as usual, misses the real targets, such as the mental health issues, gangs, the breakdown of the family, and more, behind the recent outbreaks.

Like so much of the liberal-left or progressive politics, Obama’s latest well-timed fetish is loaded with a clip full of specious feel-good appeals to the emotions (once again using kids — including dead kids — as his stage props), and in symbolism, rather than reason and empirical evidence. And of course his proposals promise more big government, nanny-state solutions. More government and government regulations and controls and social-engineering and increased spending are the answer to every problem (even spending problems), according to progressives.

The measures the Obama Left propose would do practically nothing to reduce gun violence, and might in fact increase gun violence. They would clearly reduce citizens’ rights and freedoms. And contrary to the blather about being “smart” and”pro-science”, as Obama always falsely claims to be, his proposed measures are not at all smart and are completely unscientific. In reality, Obama’s big-government answers are really based in nothing but pure left-wing, partisan politics, with an eye to increasing the size and scope of government, and winning left-wing power in upcoming congressional elections in 2014.

If Barack Obama were an ex-cop or some sort of expert in crime prevention, or was at least a law and order advocate with any history or expertise in that area, it might give his ideas more fire power. But his record of success is that of being a left-wing politician, formerly representing Chicago – the city with more murders (500+ last year alone) than the troops in war-torn Afghanistan – and Chicago is the city with some of the toughest gun control measures in America. So his gun control ideas are based on what expertise or success? None, inasmuch as Barack Obama has expertise and success in just about nothing except rallying the left to his sophistic causes.

But the authoritative police community website PoliceOne.com wanted to explore the thinking of their own police community, and conducted an extensive survey among its members to that end. I think I’ll take their opinion more seriously than Barack Obama’s. Here are some of the key points (not complete — see the complete survey here) I found most interesting in their survey:

PoliceOne’s Gun Control Survey: 11 key lessons from officers’ perspectives

In March, PoliceOne conducted the most comprehensive survey ever of American law enforcement officers’ opinions on the topic gripping the nation’s attention in recent weeks: gun control.

More than 15,000 verified law enforcement professionals took part in the survey, which aimed to bring together the thoughts and opinions of the only professional group devoted to limiting and defeating gun violence as part of their sworn responsibility.

Totaling just shy of 30 questions, the survey allowed officers across the United States to share their perspectives on issues spanning from gun control and gun violence to gun rights.

Top Line Takeaways
Breaking down the results, it’s important to note that 70 percent of respondents are field-level law enforcers — those who are face-to-face in the fight against violent crime on a daily basis — not office-bound, non-sworn administrators or perpetually-campaigning elected officials.

1.) Virtually all respondents (95 percent) say that a federal ban on manufacture and sale of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds would not reduce violent crime.

2.) The majority of respondents — 71 percent — say a federal ban on the manufacture and sale of some semi-automatics would have no effect on reducing violent crime. However, more than 20 percent say any ban would actually have a negative effect on reducing violent crime. Just over 7 percent took the opposite stance, saying they believe a ban would have a moderate to significant effect.

3.) About 85 percent of officers say the passage of the White House’s currently proposed legislation would have a zero or negative effect on their safety, with just over 10 percent saying it would have a moderate or significantly positive effect.

5.) More than 28 percent of officers say having more permissive concealed carry policies for civilians would help most in preventing large scale shootings in public, followed by more aggressive institutionalization for mentally ill persons (about 19 percent) and more armed guards/paid security personnel (about 15 percent). See enlarged image

6.) The overwhelming majority (almost 90 percent) of officers believe that casualties would be decreased if armed citizens were present at the onset of an active-shooter incident.

7.) More than 80 percent of respondents support arming school teachers and administrators who willingly volunteer to train with firearms and carry one in the course of the job.

9.) More than half of respondents feel that increased punishment for obviously illegal gun sales could have a positive impact on reducing gun violence.

Bottom Line Conclusions
Quite clearly, the majority of officers polled oppose the theories brought forth by gun-control advocates who claim that proposed restrictions on weapon capabilities and production would reduce crime.

In fact, many officers responding to this survey seem to feel that those controls will negatively affect their ability to fight violent criminals.

Contrary to what the mainstream media and certain politicians would have us believe, police overwhelmingly favor an armed citizenry, would like to see more guns in the hands of responsible people, and are skeptical of any greater restrictions placed on gun purchase, ownership, or accessibility.

Interestingly, even as I write this, a group of bi-partisan senators have struck-up a deal which includes some extra background checks for commercial gun purchases (which I should note would not have prevented many of any of the recent gun tragedies), increased punishment of gun trafficking, and would bolster federal funding for school security plans — something which you’ll remember the NRA advocated but which was shot down by the left when they immediately fired their automatic weapons (their word holes) at it, using their usual knee-jerk shoot first, ask questions later, mentality.

Here is a statement from the NRA today:

Fairfax, Va. - Expanding background checks at gun shows will not prevent the next shooting, will not solve violent crime and will not keep our kids safe in schools. While the overwhelming rejection of President Obama and Mayor Bloomberg’s “universal” background check agenda is a positive development, we have a broken mental health system that is not going to be fixed with more background checks at gun shows. The sad truth is that no background check would have prevented the tragedies in Newtown, Aurora or Tucson. We need a serious and meaningful solution that addresses crime in cities like Chicago, addresses mental health deficiencies, while at the same time protecting the rights of those of us who are not a danger to anyone. President Obama should be as committed to dealing with the gang problem that is tormenting honest people in his hometown as he is to blaming law-abiding gun owners for the acts of psychopathic murderers.

They don’t need my help. These people say it very loudly on their own.

Here’s the latest ad from Barack Obama’s far-left MSNBC division, in which one of their news show hosts declares in one of their MSNBC “Lean Forward” ads that your kids don’t belong to you. They belong to the “collective.”

In case you can’t see videos, here’s the MSNBC news show host with this news:

“We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children … We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.”

By the way, I’m also not screaming “Idiot!” or “Useful idiot!” or “Liberal fascist!”

Something about gardening and getting right down there in the dirt with your bare hands makes clear things that might otherwise be convoluted. For example, this happened:

“Five… four… three… two… one… BANG, you’re DEAD!”

That’s what the kid yelled.

And that’s what me and my wife heard last weekend while we were innocently working away out in the garden amongst our tulips and daffodils in our quiet little white picket fence suburban neighborhood. (Our house literally has a white picket fence, so there.)

The pseudo-auspicious warning — or play-by play commentary — wasn’t directed at us, luckily, and I’m happy to report we’re still alive — but rather at a group of other kids and/or adults a couple of doors down. And it was just a bunch of kids playing on the street, like kids do. Playing “guns.”

I wouldn’t have given it another thought, but I love to jump down liberals’ throats and expose their sundry sophistry and logical fallacies whenever I can.

In the context of today’s bombastic and always idiotic gun control rhetoric coming out of liberal/left America as led by the sophists-in-chief Barack Obama, Dianne Feinstein, foot-in-mouth numbskull VP Joe Biden, et al, post-Newtown shooting; and out of the even more idiotic (at least on this subject) Canada’s liberal left, my mental meandering has the added value of being at least a little apropos of something, unlike 90% of liberal-leftist blather on any pet subject.

Here’s what stuck: that kid didn’t learn what today’s liberals would deride as horrible, red-neck, right-wing, conservative whackjob-style, pro-gun rhetoric from the NRA, as liberal leftists the continent over would love you to falsely believe. No, rather, he almost certainly learned it from today’s liberals in Hollywood. Yes, liberals from the blathering liberal-left anti-gun, anti-conservative, anti-NRA set in notoriously liberal-left, Obama-supporting Hollywood (or “Hollywood North” — Vancouver, or Toronto — which is the exact same class of weapon). He got it from a TV show, movie, rap or hip-hop “song”, or video game from liberals in what we all know to be that hypocritical-on-nearly-every-issue, holier-than-thou, liberal Hollywood and their liberal-left media industrial complex.

The NRA doesn’t teach “5… 4… 3… 2… 1… BANG, you’re DEAD!” or anything like that kind of theatrics. They don’t advocate for alarming, penultimate warnings to the end of innocent life at the hand of kids role-playing an awesome man with cool, fearsome weaponry. Hollywood does. Liberals do.

So own it, Hollywood. And moreover liberals. Own what you created. Hey maybe liberals should be registered, or banned, since they cause gun violence! And by the way, actually, I’m kidding. I say that because some liberals are so dumb they may take me seriously and actually volunteer, much as they do with regard to paying higher taxes.

A couple more notes on this subject: It brought back a “discussion” around the Christmas turkey dinner table (I’m itching to claim the turkey was picked-off by a well-placed shotgun blast, but it probably wasn’t) with family (where I’m surrounded by liberals and outright socialists — yeah, real fun). An in-law, truly aghast at the audacity of the NRA to defend gun ownership after that Newtown elementary school shooting, said (in that liberal way — wherein they speak as though it is assumed everyone in the room agrees with them, which in this case nearly everyone did) that the NRA keeps making these totally “idiotic” claims about guns being a “constitutional right” (said using excessive eye-rolls and air quotes), “and junk like that” — or at least words to that dismissive, pejorative effect.

I quietly reminded her that it was, in fact, a constitutional right, in America, for citizens to have guns. “Well they should change their constitution then!” she shot back.

Of course my brain comes fully loaded with a magazine full of real science and information and actual facts and objective truths rather than knee-jerk emotional responses based on sophomoric rhetoric, so I quietly reminded her that they had, in fact, changed their constitution. “It’s called The Second Amendment,” I said. If I’d had a mic I’d have dropped it.

This is where liberals usually take to calling me an idiot, or something I find even funnier (Hitler, a Nazi, racist, homophobe, a swear-word, or whatever), then do an adroit about-face and storm off, but alas, it was at the very start of Christmas dinner and we were too crammed in there for her to get up and storm off. Suffice it to say she won’t be sending me any Christmas cards (or even “festivus” or “happy tree” or “highly regarded seasonal values and greetings!” cards) in the future.

Another point, which I mention for my Canadian brethren: It’s actually the right of Canadians, too, to defend themselves, regardless of what liberals tell you to the contrary. I’ve been a member of the NRA for years. (And by the way, I’m not a hunter. Or a “Hitler.”) This past month or so, I also joined the Canadian Shooting Sports Association, and donated to the National Firearms Association.

I’m loath to remind my readers (oh who am I kidding, I love it) that when I took the Canadian Firearms courses and got my license to acquire and possess guns in Canada (including semi-automatic rifles and handguns), I nearly failed one of the tests when I was told to unload the magazine from the Beretta semi-auto I was being tested on (exactly as pictured, above right), and I accidentally turned the muzzle downward, toward my left toe, instead of keeping it pointed down range. While I got nearly perfect and perfect scores on the written tests and the other practicals, I had to go back and take the handgun practical test over again. My wife passed all the tests with flying colors. Shut up.

So I’m not perfect, but at least I know all about guns, and what, for example, a “military-style” “assault” weapon is, unlike another in-law who blasted off several rounds of liberal-left talking points total BS last Christmas about the supposed need to ban those guns… but don’t get me started again.

Which is why everyone should work in the garden.

I had to snicker just a little when I caught the Obama regime’s Washington Post division report on the government once again doing what it loves to do: injecting itself into the erstwhile free market – in this case the housing market — just as the government had done since they started pushing banks to make house loans to “iffy” buyers back in second-worst president Jimmy Carter’s days. Some of you, especially the unemployed and bankrupt business owners, will recall that this is largely what caused the worst and now (thanks to Obama) the most protracted recession since the Great Depression – or what self-described “post partisan” president Obama risibly (still!) calls “the disaster we inherited from Bush.”

Obama and his media acolytes have been loath to blame the current economic calamity on government, in general (as they most certainly should), choosing instead to blame it on, well, anybody but Obama, but mainly “Bush” (as if he was not “the government”), or “the banks,” or better yet, “corporations” in general. As my YouTube video, posted some time ago when this all started (and now with over 6 MILLION views!) explains, thanks to Fox News Channel’s reporting, injecting itself into the free market, such that the government actually runs the economy, is exactly how this started, and continues to this very day, only even worse, now.

Undaunted (or should I say in their effort to fake you out?), here’s how the Post reports on this repeat of history, in which the Obama regime thinks it can do the same thing again, but get a different result this time (hi Albert Einstein!):

Obama administration pushes banks to make home loans to people with weaker credit
By Zachary A. Goldfarb, Published: April 2, 2013

The Obama administration is engaged in a broad push to make more home loans available to people with weaker credit, an effort that officials say will help power the economic recovery but that skeptics say could open the door to the risky lending that caused the housing crash in the first place.

President Obama’s economic advisers and outside experts say the nation’s much-celebrated housing rebound is leaving too many people behind, including young people looking to buy their first homes and individuals with credit records weakened by the recession.

In response, administration officials say they are working to get banks to lend to a wider range of borrowers by taking advantage of taxpayer-backed programs — including those offered by the Federal Housing Administration — that insure home loans against default. …

The Post did allow this nod to reality (and note that this is the reporter talking, not quoting somebody else) but couched it with a big “but”. Let me show you:

… Deciding which borrowers get loans might seem like something that should be left up to the private market. …

The private market you say. Golly. Ya think?

Now let’s look at the next sentence.

“But since the financial crisis in 2008, the government has shaped most of the housing market, insuring between 80 percent and 90 percent of all new loans, according to the industry publication Inside Mortgage Finance. It has done so primarily through the Federal Housing Administration, which is part of the executive branch, and taxpayer-backed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, run by an independent regulator. …

See?

Naturally, the date that was reported as having stared (“since 2008″) is hilarious. The government has largely controlled the market since Jimmy Cater started controlling it in the 1970s, and Bill Clinton made it exponentially worse in the 90s. But you see it’s been “the nation’s much-celebrated housing rebound” only since 2008 when the government started “shaping” it. For liberals, history always starts exactly when they need it to start. You can see why I chuckle.

The Post article reads like a sort of Jay Carney-esque talking point, seemingly reporting that there’s nothing to see here – or at least nothing bad. It’s a warmed over don’t worry, we’re from the government and we’re here to help! But these people are not like Ronald Reagan, who declared that those words were the nine scariest words in the English language.

Actually, not to liken their goals or objectives, merely the clown-like characters, it reminds me of that idiot from the Iraq war days when the Saddam Hussein spokesman whom we all nicknamed “Baghdad Bob,” literally in front of a real-life background of American tanks not 100 yards behind him and F-18 fighter jets overhead, declared in live news conferences that there was “nutting going on, the Americans are not gain on us, it is business as usual here in Iraq.” Except with Carney adding don’t worry, we’re from the government and we’re here to help!

In America, today, it’s not “business as usual,” it’s government as usual. Simply ignore all that bothersome empirical evidence flying around your head.

It’s the weekend, which gives me license to relax and be un-serious about everything.

In that spirit, and with the proviso that you understand I’m perfectly OK with other hair colors, please allow me to be a blondist, and a keen observer of the differences between the two (and only two) sexes – or what we conservatives call “a regular guy” – for a sec, for this one observation, which I made moments ago while watching Fox News Channel. It caused me to recall a previous, very similar such observation made, well, repeatedly, over the years.

A “blonde moment,” Fox News Channel style — where it means pretty much the opposite of what it means elsewhere:

Dana Perino with Kirsten Powers, each saying brilliant things.

Megyn Kelly with Ann Coulter, each saying brilliant things.

Rinse and repeat. Please.
