DBS Internet Banking Been Giving Me This Error

Not sure if it is only me or there are others who experience this as well. I have been having alot of problem logging into the DBS Internet Banking portal not only in office but at home as well and the error is always similar.

At first I thought it is due to my browser but when I change browser also the same so next I would thought is my connection but once I am home I try again also same error...

My account blocked or compromise???

Got My Diablo 3!!!

The 12-year wait is over finally and today I gotten my Diablo 3 box set at last! I am so excited and can't wait to start playing once the server starts but sad to say I can only play after I knock off from work...

Even more sad is my wife who has the most time free to play Diablo 3 had to wait till I am back from work too before she can play as her box is with me as well... I think now the hottest topic on Facebook is Diablo 3, people are all uploading their Diablo 3 Box and sharing with the world the character they will be creating.

Till now I still can't really decide which character to play but just thinking about playing it is already exciting and I think you should too :)

KFC Double Down

The new KFC Double Down sandwich is real! This one-of-a-kind sandwich features two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken fillets and in between them are bacon and two different kinds of melted cheese.

Was originally a limited time offer in the US but having successful results it spread worldwide and now in Singapore we got to taste it too! KFC Singapore announced on April 15, 2012, that they would be launching the Double Down on April 16, 2012 and I tried it on that day together with my team!

The sandwich has 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium. That's a lot of fat and salt so for ladies out there do workout after trying this! One of my teammate even gave the "so happy" look after taking the first bite with the oil and juices spill out!!!

In US it is now a regular item on the menu but as for Singapore I'm not too sure... Maybe someone can check and let me know if it is also a regular item here as well.

O ya just a quick note as this promo come with the Buddy meal as well which throws in one Double Down set and one two piece chicken set at $12.80 ($6.90 for double down and $5.90 for the 2 piece). But seriously dun get the Buddy meal as the two piece chicken will cost you only $5 should you buy it separately!

2 MRT slightly collide at Paya Lebar Station

We have seem all sort of delay but this is the weirdest of all and it happen to SMRT's trains which are suppose to be manual controlled! 2 trains slightly collided at Paya Lebar Station causing a delay in the train service towards Pasir Ris.

66 years old woman killed after being hit by SBS bus in Sengkang

A 66 years old woman was pronounced dead on the spot after being hit by a SBS Transit Bus service number 159 this morning at the junction of Sengkang East Way and Compassvale Road. The woman was reportedly knocked down at a pedestrian crossing when the bus was making a right turn and was dragged for a distance.

Credit Card Was Hacked in the Global Payments Breach

You may not have heard of Global Payments so just for a quick info about Global Payments who is one of the world largest credit cards processing companies with operations around the world serving millions of consumers and merchants. In Asia Pacific region Global Payments is more commonly know to be associated with HSBC Merchant Services since HSBC Merchant Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Global Payments.

It was reported earlier today that Global Payments suffered a massive security breach, in which intruders made off with credit card numbers from 50,000+ card holders worldwide. Global Payments which processes credit card transactions for stores and online merchants, said it had detected a breach of card data in early March. Breaches of card data can lead to identity theft and unauthorized charges.

Visa had also issued a statement acknowledging a possible compromise involving a "third-party entity" and affecting accounts from all major card brands. MasterCard has hired an independent firm to look into the hack so that steps can be taken to protect those customers and to help find the hacker. However, the breach affects all major credit card brands, including Discover and American Express as well.

Although the alerts were sent out earlier today, it is believe that the breach occurred somewhere between January 21 and February 25.

For all credit cards holders please be vigilant and contact your banks or financial institute should you found any suspicious transactions with your credit cards.

Singaporeans to get absolute priority over Permanent Residents when balloting for Primary School Seats

In the past when there is a need to ballot for Primary School seats no matter if the child is a Singaporean or PR the chances of balloting is still the same but from now on if balloting is required during Primary One registration, Singaporeans will be admitted first ahead of PRs before home-school distance is considered.

If there are still vacancies in the school after all eligible Singaporean children have been admitted after balloting, then these vacancies will be given to permanent residents, with priority given to those who live closer to school.

It should be the right thing to give education priority for Singaporean kids over foreigners and I am surprise it took MOE so long to realize that. To me Singaporean should be given first priority whether in education, jobs or housing since that is the point why we are Singaporean. Should no priority be given to Singaporean in our home country I wonder why are we we bother to even be Singaporean...

So should PR wanted priority then I think it is naturally right for them to consider taking up citizenship, this way they too will be consider as Singaporean and given the rightful rights.

Singapore Children Almost Being Kidnapped

First it was at Ang Mo Kio Hub and now it at Simei in front of a Primary School somemore! Is Singapore no longer a safe country for children???

Being a father myself I am now paying extra attention when bringing my boy out to play even if it is just at the playground below. Below are some tips which I am sharing with parents on how to make sure such incident dun happen to your child.

Always keep an eye on your child not matter what. Dun let your child leave your sight even for 1 second if you are not holding on to him/her.
Keep clear of crowded areas or places where you might lose sight of your child.
Always ensure your child is in proper hands before going off.
Educate your child if possible to not follow strangers.

Hopefully with these our children can be safe. Should you have any tips which you will like to share do comment below.

I really hope the police will be able to nap the "kidnappers" soon...

Confusion over 7 Eleven Promotion

A common mistake of shelf tag on a wrong shelf causes some confusion over 7 Eleven "Buy 2 For $2.50" promotion.

The tag is on the wrong shelf. The promotion should be for price for 2 bottles of the NO SUGAR ADDED Sunkist Orange Juice which costs $1.30 per bottle. However somehow the tag ended up on the shelf for the normal Sunkist Orange Juice with sugar which costs $1.20 per bottle.

A rather common issue if you were to ask me hence always read the description on the tag to match to the correct product before buying to avoid any confusion.

SBS Transit expects NEL MRT service to be restored at 2pm

First it was the SMRT now SBS Transit got the fire when this morning the train service between Dhoby Ghaut and Harbourfront stations was interrupted due to power issue and the total restoration time was estimated to be about 6 hours and later extended to 8...

Although the incident happen during the peak hours as many were trying to get to work the overall situation was better handled by SBS Transit staff. Understand that some commuters will be irrated especially those who are rushing to get to their work place but the response from SBS Transit is able to handle the situation better well. Free shuttle bus services where dispatced to bring commuters to other stations along the affected stretch and "Goodwill Ambassador" were there to guide commuters to these free bus services.

Singapore Credit Cards with Unauthorised Charges on iTunes

Credit cards customers in Singapore are calling their banks up and reporting that their credit cards had been misused and there are suspicious transactions charged to them through the digital media portal, the App Store, on iTunes. There was one who even reported a charge of $7,000!

What is strange is to my understanding all if not most of Singapore credit cards are all 3D Secure. This mean that an One-Time-Password (OTP) would be send to the customer's mobile for every online transactions that happen. With OTP how can this happen? How can a charge still get process without the card owner OTP?

In such a case since iTunes is a 3D secure merchant, no chargeback can be done by the issuing banks and hence the one liable will be either the card owner or the issuing banks. One of the affected banks, UOB, has investigated the unauthorised transactions and bit the bullet and reimbursed the full amount to its customers. So the one who benefited from all these are the fraudsters who run off with the digital goods purchased without paying a single cents.

Why can't the police or law enforcers just trace the fraudsters using the IPs or account when they logon to iTunes to make the purchase? Are they just going to let it go because it is just too much of an effort to trace the fraudsters?

Having working with the credit card system for a while and understanding all the different terms like ECI, chargeback, sale reversal, etc I am thinking the entire credit card system is actually a very big loophole! And as long as this loophole is not closed, everyday fraudsters will come and try to scam off with some thing from someone... until one day no one in the right mind will do an online transaction anymore.

As of now the only thing is to check your credit card transactions and report any fraud usage to your issuing bank immediately!

IT Show 2012

Went to the IT Show yesterday to get 2 laptops for company and to catch the finalists of the DL Booth Babe Contest (especially Razor's) as it seem that this year it created quite a buzz among the netizens.

Sad to say only manage to see these two ladies while the one from Toshiba and Razor are not around... Maybe gone for dinner or break bah...

Anyway manage to get the 2 Dell laptops as well as speak with some of the Dell booth girls and also meet one of my Camp mate who happen to be helping out at the Dell booth.

In case you are wondering the model I got from Dell is the 13z. I like the fact that it is small and light, making it very easy for Operations personal to carry them around. That is the main reason why I got it cos if bought a bigger one, although more features but it will be quite a headache to carry it around.

Google Adsense Cheque Here Again!

Got the cheque from Google when I open my letterbox just now and this is my 5th Google Adsense Cheque for SGBoleh and my 8th Adsense Cheque in total!!! This time my Adsense target had been reach and in fact much better than what I had expected!

Since my last cheque from Google Adsense my target was $1.50 a day which I thought would be hard to reach... But guess what I manage to not only hit that target but in fact go well above it by a dollar! Yup that mean each day a nice $2.50 on average from Adsense!

I am really hoping to maintain this earning if possible and maybe set a new target of $3 daily. Lastly to all my readers thanks for all the support you had given to me :)

DBS hit by ATM fraud again!

DBS in the spot light again as it was hit by another ATM fraud incident again!!! DBS Bank said that it had $23,000 stolen from 17 customers' bank accounts last Sunday as fraudsters used Singapore ATM machines to make unauthorised withdrawals.

The bank received calls reporting the fraud from a handful of customers who were notified of the unauthorised withdrawals through SMS alerts from the bank. These affected customers were compensated the full amount within 24 hours. The SMS alerts are part of the enhanced security measures put in place after the ATM fraud scandal that saw $1 million stolen from the bank accounts of 700 DBS and POSB customers.

Investigation shown that the recent fraud is not a new case but rather a continuation of the same card skimming operation that took place last month.

Remy Ong Hit and Run

Not many heard about the name the Remy Ong or know who he was until he was pulled into a Hit and Run incident on 18th Feb 2012. He was involved with a hit-and-run of a pregnant dog around the vicinity of Safra NSRCC. The female dog was reportedly hit by his Porsche with registration plate "SGS300B".

A passerby and a couple of cyclists blocked the road and carried the dog to the side while giving the dog some water. Ten minutes later, the female dog went into a fit and soon passed away with two broken legs, external bleeding and a miscarriage.

Remy Ong returned later to retrieve the registration plate which had drop off due to the impact of the accident. And when confronted each gave a different story which contradicts each and other...

Remy confirmed to be the driver involved and he will accepts full responsibility for the matter. Under the Road Traffic Act, those involved in a hit-and-run accident could be fined up to S$3,000 or jailed up to a year. This applies even if the victim is an animal.

Legendary pop singer Whitney Houston was found dead Saturday at a Beverly Hills, California, hotel. Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use.

Valentines Day Is Near

Friends are all visiting florists and visiting online gift shops for last minute Valentines gift for their girlfriends... Seeing them like this kinda make me feel good that I have a wife who did not really expect expensive or romantic gift but rather just a quiet couple time together.

Valentines Day doesn't have to be a once a year thing. Everyday can be Valentines Day so go ahead and love with all of your heart and soul. There is never a bad time to tell your loved one how you feel about them, well maybe you should avoid Halloween Day or Qing Ming festival but other than that any day of the year is good. It never need to be on Valentines Day. For me the most expensive gift one can give is your heart. Cherish your time together and make every day Valentines Day.

In Singapore Valentines Day is too commercialised... Florists marking up the roses prices like 300%, all the gift shops also make use of this chance to up their prices for all sort of soft toys (since these are the gifts which most girls like and goes well with the roses)... Restaurants come out with special Valentines Day menu and also more expensive dishes and the worst thing is most of them are fully booked...

What would a practical guy like me do then... Having dinner at a restaurant is out of the question since most are already fully booked. Buying roses... I must either be super rich or out of mind to buy them during Valentines Day. So what to do well if really want to make Valentines Day a special day, then just do something which is special, something you usually will not do on any other days. Hence for me I choose to cook a special Valentines Day dinner for my wife and choice of cuisine is Asian, Fried rice with Sunny Side Up and on the side some German Sausages. And for drinks I choose a nice bottle of pomegranate juice (since she can't take wine)

Of cos I will not know the effect of such arrangement till Tuesday night but that is my plan. My only concern is the cooking since it has really been a while since I last cook anything so kinda worry my skills might have dropped... Well worst case is to cook instant mee with Sunny Side Up :)

So what about you? Well you be like most of my friends scrambling around to source for roses as well as a nice cosy place for dinner? Remember it is not the price tag which determine the relationship, it is the love and commitment which plays the most important part.

Learn alot about Hacking and Fraud

You may have study about hacking, hackers, security, fraud and DDOS, stuff like that but nothing beat facing on head on in real time and combating them... I am not a security expert nor do I know much about hacking, frauds or even DDOS but in just 1 night I was forced to learn and derive ways to stop, prevent and combat all these.

Company web portal was under DDOS attack at about the same time SOPA was announced and had to fight fire as service was affected. Worst thing infrastructure provider was not really helpful as they dun really seem to be very concern at first until finally their entire rack was affected. Got to work with my team to investigate the problem, block IPs and setup rules in the iptables. After which we still have to pass our rules to our provider as they were unable to find out what sort of attack had hit them and what to do other than to plug us out of the network... Really "good" service if you were to ask me...

Next we are now under fraudsters attack trying to find loop holes in our system. Things like creating fake transactions which seem like valid transactions and trying to pass by payment were common cases these fraudsters would do. Luckily for us we had already measures in place to stop these.

Company got in quite a few security experts but most were only able to advise more on the DDOS portion while the fraud part still quite open. No choice got to derive some primative but effect measures to combat the fraud side of the problem.

To me the challenge is really on the fraud side as finding ways to trap these fraudsters while still allowing them to think that they had successfully cheated the system is challenging. Glad to say my measures are showing the results and I must say we are really doing the impossible as with my current team size having to achieve all these in just matter of days is something.

Now I am designing a fraud detection algorithm which will be able to deduce if a transaction is real or not and how to handle it without any human intervention. This will save the cost of having to get a team of guys just to manage the fraud aspect of the business. Not too sure how good it will be cause in the end it is just a one man effort... Wonder if what I design can be on par with those designed by big corporates like CyberSource etc...

All these caused me and my team to burn many nights and we work like 12 hours a day in office and another 3 to 4 more hours after reaching home... Luckily now things are on track and we are starting to see some breathing space. But as many will agree anti-hacking and fraud prevent is an art rather than a solution which can be deploy and that is it. Attacks will still come in and fraudsters will still try to find ways to cheat the system so it is how we continue to improve and continue to fight.

New Saving Account

About 2 years ago I wrote a post about High Interest Saving Account and that I will rather go with a traditional saving account with lower interest but more facilities like passbook and ATM.

However 2 years down the road things change and yesterday I open a Joint Saving Account with my wife to enjoy an interest of ~~1% pa~~ 0.5% pa. Not really a fantastic interest rate if you compare to Time Deposit but with other saving accounts offered on the market, this ~~1% pa~~ 0.5% pa is very attractive.

In case you are interested we open the eSaver account with Standard Chartered and because my son has a Child Development Account (CDA) with Standard Chartered as well our eSaver automatically qualify for Family Saver Program which allow us to earn an interest rate of ~~1% pa~~ 0.5% pa just like the CDA.

I did not make this choice purely base on the interest rate cos as you know eSaver is an online saving account. There is no ATM or passbook or cheque. Everything is online hence to withdraw money I would have to either queue at the counter or do a Internet transfer from eSaver to my regular account and then withdraw via ATM. So why I choose it then...

Well as you know I have just switch job about a year ago and gotten my flat for about a year half. Also with a son to take care of, finances are starting to get abit tight. Also I could not afford to take much risk now due to the number of mouths I need to feed (yes I am still a believer of a single income family) so the best approach now will be for me to cultivate a good saving habit with of cos a reasonable interest. This is why I choose eSaver.

With an interest rate of ~~1% pa~~ 0.5% pa it is one of the highest saving interest rate in Singapore and for the fact that there is no ATM or cheque mean that I could not withdraw money from it like how I will do so with my POSB ATM. This will force me to only save and not withdraw from the account. Lastly being a saving account it mean that I could withdraw money as per needed (via Internet transfer first of cos) in times of financial needs.

For your info Standard Chartered now operate even on Sundays hence it is a good time when you can easily pop by to ask for more information. I am happen to saw a new promotion from Standard Chartered which offer a rather high interest for a Time Deposit/Insurance plan which I think work out pretty well. However as I had just open eSaver, I will need to save up for a while first before even considering the Time Deposit/Insurance plan which I hope by the time is still offering or even better.

I will leave you with some more info with regards to Standard Chartered CDA and Family Saver program.

Defeated...

I am sure everyone would have felt defeated some time or another in their life and for me it is now... To be exact I started feeling like this a few days back and now I am at my all time low...

I remember the last time I felt like this was after my O levels English exam when I got this very bad feeling that I had done badly for... That time I was afraid that I might had just gone out of topic with my essay and would end up failing my entire O levels... I was totally defeated then...

18 years later today I am feeling the same... Defeated again... This time not from exams but from work... Meet someone or some groups who have defeated me... As much as I wish to fight back and prove that I am not defeated, I dun think I have the will nor the motivation to do so...

It is not the difference in skills which I am unable to overcome but rather the effect which had gotten me... If it had been another project I would have been very excited as it is a time for me to prove myself again but this time the effect from this project was just too great for me to accept...

One part of me is trying to tell me that I need to accept this defeat and that the battle is over and that this is the end of my journey... But the other part of me is telling me that I am not defeated and that I should stand stronger and learn from this.

So one side is telling me that I should live a life as a defeated man while the other side is telling me to live a life as a warrior who keep coming back no matter how many he was defeated with the sole purpose of winning the battle.

Guess it is now totally up to me to keep fighting or to give up and feel defeated. A choice which currently now I am still unable to commit...

Senior SCDF and CNB Officers under Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau investigation

Investigations began in end December 2011 in the case of Mr Ng Boon Gay and in early January 2012 in the case of Mr Peter Lim Sin Pang. Both officers were placed on leave from their duties when the investigations commenced. Their duties have been covered by their respective deputies. Taking into account the current status of the investigations, both will be interdicted from their duties with effect from 25 January 2012, pending disciplinary proceedings

After the minister salary review came about this news hit the streets of Singapore making many to wonder if it is really true that high salary prevent corruption??? To make matter worst is that the CNB's involved as well... What a big disgrace to Singapore especially since Singapore is known to have zero tolerance to drugs...

This prove to me one thing and that is high salary only can deter the person from corruption because of the risk involved but it never guarantee the integrity of a person. Corruption is everywhere as long as a person is greedy... It does not matter how much the salary is... When there's greed, there's corruption...

Anyway this case is still open, let's see what is the outcome...

Lee Kuan Yew defends Singapore ministerial salaries

From all the talking and defending it just show one thing and that is the ministers of Singapore believe they are the cream of the crop and that the million of dollars spend as their salaries are worth it.

As the defending go on and on and the more the ministers try to justify why they should be getting such high salaries, the more confusions and resentments they create among the Singaporeans. They should just stop and accept it and not keep defending it...

Lee Kuan Yew mention the need for a competitive ministerial pay to attract committed and capable people who will serve the country. Well I am 50% on this as I agree with more competitive pay it will naturally attract more committed and capable people but why I disagree is because I try to go into the statutory board but what I they rejected my application as they deem me being too aggressive in nature and that my expected salary is beyond what they can pay... I know I am not a minister but I am too trying to do my part for Singapore by joining the statutory board just as how the ministers are doing their part. Why am I rejected for being aggressive in nature? I want to chiong for my dreams and I am willing to put in efforts to achieve it but people shoot me down for the simple reason I am too aggressive... Next why is my expected a rejection point when I am asking less than $75k a year!!!

So does Mr Lee mean that only ministers are the one running the country and the ones who should be getting the "competitive" salary while the rest of the civil servants and officers of statutory board are just people doing the ministers bidding's?

Furthermore he said unless Singapore has a steady stream of people to serve as ministers, Singapore as a little red dot will become a little black spot... This further strengthen the fact that he believes ministers are the ones running the show and not the people of the country!

Then why are we working so hard to keep our country safe and our economy running... Why not just leave it to the ministers since they are the one who are in need by the country to continue maintaining it as a little red dot and not anyone else.

Singapore is one of the smallest countries in the world and yet our ministers are drawing the HIGHEST salaries in the world... A big unbalance if you are to ask me... Talk about balance between work load and salary and we all can see the big see-saw here.

They should really just stop trying to defend their salaries. We, the average earners are so sick and tired of listening to their defending... More time should spend in the discussing things which are more urgent and important (which are usually put aside by one sentence or two in the Parliament) than to discuss about why the salaries should be this high...

Even Mr Obama is wondering why Singapore Minister's pay is higher than him

Not all security features are turned on at the DBS/POSB ATMs

How can DBS make such a statement that only some ATMs are fully secured sometime... So it depend on the users luck when using the ATMs if it has all the security features turned on???

In response to the ATM fraud cases, DBS further added that jitter technology (which uses a stop-start, or jitter motion, when a card is inserted in the ATM. In theory, the irregular motion distorts the magnetic stripe details on the card, so if a skimming device has been placed on an ATM, the jitter feature makes the copied information unusable) not turned on at the 2 ATMs at bugis! Understand that jitter is not 100% secure but at least having it is better than not having anything at all. Further more it was turned off at the 2 ATMs which are compromised!

I must be damn lucky cos so far the usual ATMs which I used have the green lock and jitter on but what about the rest of DBS/POSB customers who frequent other ATMs island wide... Who can guess just how many such cases will happen again in the future...

As compared to the other two banks, OCBC and UOB both all security features turned on at all their ATMs islandwide.

If DBS can say things like that it really make me wonder what about their Internet Banking... Would there is a chance that sometimes their SSL might be on, something off? Or sometime their 2FA feature is used and sometime is not???

Also what about their banks... Would there be days where there is a guard on duty while other days no...

If DBS had mention that their do not have all the neccessary security features in place as yet, I think it is still better than saying not turned on. At least if dun have can still improve but if have but not turn on... Why even bother to have it in the first place...

Maybe it is time to switch from DBS to OCBC? Why not UOB you might ask well work with them before many years back. Did not have a good experience with their management staff so UOB might be bigger but still due to the bad experience I had they are off my list.

Safe ATMs??? Only DBS will know...
