Actress Deepika Padukone has hinted that she is starring in Vin Diesel’s next “XXX” francishe “Xander Cage Returns” by posting a picture with the Hollywood star.

In the photo, posted in her social media pages, the 29-year-old actress is seen hugging Diesel in the backdrop of the logo of the movie franchise “XXX”.

“Vin Diesel,” Deepika posted on Facebook.

There were reports that Deepika had turned down Diesel’s “Fast and Furious 7” to accommodate dates for her 2014 release “Happy New Year”.

O. Panneerselvam slams Kamal Hassan for flaying relief measures

Taking strong exception to film star Kamal Haasan’s reported criticism of AIADMK’s flood relief activities, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam on Saturday charged the actor of becoming a ‘puppet’ of those who tried to gain political mileage in such situations.

In a strongly-worded statement, Mr. Panneerselvam, also explained to the actor that the government’s spending in social sectors and disaster management and advised him to go through the budget “by allocating time in between his movie shootings.”

Mr. Panneerselvam’s retort comes in the wake of the actor’s reported criticism to a section of media, where he had purportedly said the “system has collapsed” and that he was making donations since the government had asked him and reportedly expressed his displeasure over it.

“In an extraordinary situation where Chennai had received over 40 cm of rainfall in a single day resulting in flooding, instead of being supportive of the Amma (Ms.Jayalalithaa) government, he has made wrong statement which is above his qualification,” Mr. Panneerselvam said.

The actor was ‘confused’ and had ‘blabbered’ unaware of the ground reality, he said. Explaining government’s relief measures, he said though the State was returning to normalcy after rains in earlier part of November, it once again struggled as it received rain in excess of 40 cm last week, a record after 1918.

“In a film produced by him, he may set right a natural disaster in just a scene or a song. But reality is different. Normalcy can be restored only with proper planning and over a period of time which Amma is doing expeditiously,” Mr. Panneerselvam said.

“If he wants to know about natural disaster, he should once again watch his movie Anbe Sivam,” he said. The movie, also starring R. Madhavan, deals with the trials and tribulations of the two protagonists stuck in a deluge.

Over 40,000 government staff were involved in flood relief; 300 boats employed while some 12 lakh affected persons had been rescued and lodged in camps. So far, 55 lakh food packets have been distributed and over 23,000 medical camps held, he said.

“In such a situation, saying that the entire system has collapsed, is not only contrary to facts, but also amounts to insulting the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

He also lambasted the actor for questioning what happened to the taxpayer’s money as government solicited contributions.

“His statement shows that he has become a puppet of people who eye political mileage in such a situation,” he said.

The Minister said Mr.Haasan should clarify if he had ‘sold himself out’ to any ‘evil force’ which aims at creating an illusion that tax payers’ money was ‘misappropriated’ by the government, and thus malign its reputation among people. “Even the Rs. 679 crore tax payers’ money allotted for disaster mitigation in the budget for year 2015-16 is being spent now,” he said, adding that the actor need not have any doubt about where the money was going and insisted that Ms. Jayalalithaa was keen to ensure taxes were not wasted.

Referring to the actor’s outburst at the height of the Vishwaroopam controversy where he threatened to leave the country in the face of strong protests from Muslim bodies, the Minister sought to remind him that it was Ms. Jayalalithaa who helped in solving the stand-off.

“But the actor had forgotten to thank Ms. Jayalalithaa then and has made such remarks now,” he said. Further, the government had not sought any contribution from him, but only from the Centre even as many good-hearted individuals and state governments where making voluntary donations considering it a noble deed, he said. “The Tamil tradition is to not beg from anyone and turn down charity,” he said.

In fact, Telugu actor Allu Arjun, had committed to providing Rs. 25 lakh for the city, Mr. Panneerselvam said.

On the actor’s comment that ‘ruling party’ was spending Rs. 4,000 crore on corporate projects and why it could not be divided among 120 crore people of India, Mr. Panneerselvam wondered if the question was directed at the Centre. “Don’t know why he is asking that question now. Probably he is angry that (Centre) has not waived the service tax levied on cinema industry,” he remarked sarcastically.

“We cannot tolerate Kamal Haasan’s blabbering just because he is a big actor or makes big films. People of Tamil Nadu who have complete faith in the Chief Minister will never believe or accept them,” he said.

Killing Veerappan to hit screens on December 11: RGV

Killing Veerappan, maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s Kannada directorial debut, based on the killing of the forest brigand, will release on December 11. Varma also said that problems regarding the movie had been ‘amicably settled’ with Mutthulakshmi, the widow of Veerappan.

“Problems with Mutthulakshmi regarding ‘Killing Veerapan’ have been amicably settled. Film is releasing on 11th December,” Varma tweeted.

A multilingual project, Killing Veerappan will also be made in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.

Nikhil Advani: Not easy to get Akshay Kumar on board for new projects

They have collaborated on three projects but director-producer Nikhil Advani says getting actor friend Akshay Kumar on board for a film is not an easy task.

Nikhil has worked with Akshay in his directorial ventures Chandni Chowk to China and Patiala House, and his upcoming production Airlift.

"Nothing is easy in this industry. We are good friends. It's okay, but that alone doesn't work. Akshay is known for his comedy and action films. This film (Airlift) doesn't have these things, it has drama. There is brand new Akshay Kumar (in the film)," Nikhil told PTI.

The 44-year-old director revealed at first he did not offer Airlift to Akshay as he thought the Babyactor would not like the concept.

"I was talking to him for some other film and just spoke to him in general about this idea (Airlift). He was like why I am not talking about it. I felt he would not do it. But he liked it. He likes good scripts," he said.

Airlift is about Ranjit Katyal (played by Akshay Kumar), a wealthy and powerful Indian businessman based in Kuwait, who with the help of the Indian government safely evacuated 170,000 Indians back to their country.

On the research for Airlift, Nikhil said, "I read the two articles... We tried to get more information. We met those people, who became victims of the situation. We also met pilots, who were part of evacuation process."

The Kal Ho Na Ho director said he did not think it was a risk to produce Airlift as he likes to be associated with good stories.

Nikhil, however, felt it was not right for him to direct the film. Airlift has been directed by Raja Menon.

"He is a very competent director. He's very passionate about the story. It would be unfair on my part to just direct the film. I don't just want to be a director. I want to produce good films as well."

Releasing on January 22, Airlift also stars Nimrat Kaur in the lead role.

While the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has proscribed the screening of student films at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) has gone all out to showcase a rich variety of films made by students.

With students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) still at loggerheads with the Ministry over the contentious appointment of actor-turned-BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as FTII Chairman, the latter had instructed the Directorate of Film Festival (DFF) to drop the students’ package, for the first time in several years, to forestall trouble from the students at the IFFI.

However, the 14 edition of PIFF is embracing student filmmakers with the Volkswagen International Student Film competition (live action and animation) as part of its package.

The theme this year is ‘Sports and Cinema: bringing the world together’. It was chosen to underscore harmony between countries at a time when global terrorism is raging.

The festival, organised jointly by the Pune Film Foundation and the Maharashtra government will be held between January 14 and 21.

“More than 200 films from different countries will be showcased,” said Dr. Jabbar Patel, veteran filmmaker and Chairman-Director of PIFF. New categories have been included in the festival including Asian Cinema and a segment called ‘Changing Maharashtra’, a short-film competition.

But the students’ package will be the highlight of this edition of PIFF with the organisers stating that they have received more than 206 applications in live action and 55 in the animation category from students across the globe.

“This is a festival of, by and for students,” said Ravi Gupta, Secretary of PIFF.

The competition will also feature 13 films by students, whose work had been banned from being screened at the IFFI last month. The names of these institutes where the students are studying have been kept under wraps.

“PIFF is probably the only prominent festival in India with a dedicated section for students’ films and it is wonderful that they have decided to introduce the competition category this year,” said Sandip Chatterjee, Professor of Direction at FTII.

PIFF is also collaborating with the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Symbiosis International University, the Bharati Vidyapeeth University, DSK Supinfocom Animation Institute and the Savitribai Phule Pune University to facilitate the festival. “Students will not only be present as delegates but will also be intimately associated with the working of the festival,” said Dr. Patel.

The Best Film award will carry a cash price of $1,000. The will also be awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematographer and Best Audiographer, each with a cash prize of $500. The Best Animation Film (India) and Best Animation Film (International) will be awarded $1,000 each.

The Rs. 25,000 PIFF Special Award will be given to a final year student (direction) from FTII.

Aafreen Rachel Vaz bags sub-title at Miss Supranational 2015

ndian model Aafreen Rachel Vaz has won the title of Miss Supranational 2015 Asia and Oceania at the Miss Supranational 2015 beauty pageant.

The pageant was held on December 4 in Poland. Aafreen was placed in the top 10.

She was crowned first runner-up at the fbb Femina MissIndia 2015 pageant and was India's official entry to the international pageant.

Aafreen was seen competing against 78 contestants from around the world at the seventh edition of the prestigious pageant. She also received a cash prize of USD 1000.

The model looked stunning in deep metallic gold gown, designed by Gaviin Miguel, at the finale designed by Ace designer.

"It was a privilege to represent India at such a prestigious international pageant and I am honored to win the title Miss Supranational 2015 Asia and Oceania for my country. I am grateful to Miss India Organization for providing me this opportunity and preparing me in the best possible way for this international pageant.

"I am thankful to my parents, friends and all supporters who stood by me throughout my journey during this pageant," Aafreen said in a statement.

Miss Paraguay, Stephanie Vasquez Stegman was crowned Miss Supranational 2015. Other winners include, first runner-up Miss Supranational 2015 - Miss Canada, second runner up Miss Supranational 2015 - Miss Columbia.

Aafreen also competed for various other sub-titles at the pageant like Best Body, Miss Elegance, Miss Top Model, Miss Internet, Miss Photogenic, Miss Friendship and Best National Costume.

Legend movie review

Legend review: The movie spends an inexplicable amount of time on the relationship, inter-cut by the Krays’ expanding business. The time spent on Frances drags Legend down.

In this “notorious true story of the Kray twins” — the gangster brothers who briefly fancied themselves as kings of London in the ’60s — the knockout punch isn’t dealt by Tom Hardy raised to the power 2. It is the Kray mother (Jane Wood) in her bedraggled nightgown, mousey hair, wrinkled cleavage, and a firm grip passing along cups of tea.

Stroking the hair of Ronnie Kray (Hardy), who has just returned after killing someone, she tells twin Reggie (Hardy), sitting some distance away, with a steely smile, “He is your brother.”

That one scene establishes why the charismatic, smart and brutal Reggie will never be able to break way from the schizophrenic, unstable and dangerous Ronnie. It’s sad that Helgeland, the Oscar award-winning screenwriter of L A Confidential, doesn’t think of making more of the excellent Wood.

Instead, it falls on Hardy’s hardy shoulders to convey the ties that bind and will unravel the Kray brothers. It’s a valiant effort no doubt, with Reggie and Ronnie two distinct people, even physically. However, but for that one scene with Wood, we have no idea how and where that bond was forged.

The only other actor with a role in their lives in the film is Emily Browning, playing Reggie’s wife Frances. As also the narrator of this story, she assumes this air of distance that is in no way justified by her arc in the role. It’s a very unsatisfying performance, with the reasons for her falling for Reggie clear but her growing disillusionment with him pretty forced.

Legend spends an inexplicable amount of time on that relationship, inter-cut by the Krays’ expanding business. Both Reggie’s growing love for Frances and his desire for acceptability as a legitimate businessman don’t go down well with Ronnie, who keeps repeating that all he wants to be is a “genuine gangster”.

The time spent on Frances drags Legend down, as does Helgeland’s determination to establish the genuine period nature of his film with his string of lovingly dressed men and women (none better than the hunky Hardy), sitting in clubs with great live music, and gloriously shot violence. The only signs of palpable tension as Reggie and Ronnie move from their second-rung gangster status in East End to the “greener pastures of West London” are, after all, between the brothers themselves. If there are not enough of those scenes, there are even lesser of Ronnie, the man perpetually on the cusp of madness — even if it is just revealing his gay status to a stunned American counterpart (Chazz Palminteri), or talking about the Utopian town he hopes to build in Nigeria.

An applause here for the young Taron Egerton too, as Ronnie’s toy boy who plays no mean role in pushing him to the edge.

Chitrangada Singh: 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz' is back on track

Chitrangada Singh and Nawazuddin Siddiqui's 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz' is back on the track and the actress is quite happy about it.

Filmmaker Pritish Nandy's son Kushan has got this unusual pairing -- Chitrangada and Nawazuddin -- for his comic thriller.

Reportedly, it hit a roadblock due to financial problems and the shoot was stopped. The film also faced a lot of resistance while shooting in West Bengal, following which there was speculation that Kushan had shelved the project.

"The coming year there will be two projects that I have. The dates of Nawaz went a little haywire... It was unfortunate, so Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is coming back on track. He is doing very well which is great," Chitrangada said at an event.

"The other project is 'Band of Mahrajas'. It is about a Pakistani singer called Billo Mumtaz, it is about her journey. There is a lot of presence of Taliban in Pakistan where lot of musicians are having trouble in pursuing it as the religion doesn't allow," she said.

Band of Maharajas is helmed by Girish Malik, whose directorial debut Jal bagged the National Award for Best Special Effects.

The Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi actress was talking at launch of Aldo, worldwide chain of shoe and accessory stores.

"For me between style and comfort I would choose style. When it comes to expressing yourself style is important. You should have your own style," she said.

"It should not be about wearing what is in fashion, it should be what you like.... Woman should do her own thing," she added.

Sajid Khan: Will need Rs.300 crore to make film on Rajinikanth

Radhika, star of films like Ahalya, plays a troubled employee, Shaheen, who confronts her boss (Shernaz Patel) after she is passed over for a promotion.

"You are judging me by my pregnancy not on my work," she tells Shernaz in one scene. Her boss responds, "I think you should focus on your baby and next year when you come back ofcourse we will consider you for a promotion. "I think I can manage both," an agitated Shaheen replies.

Many dialogues like "It's a management decision," "Clients need a senior architect who is around," "Nice jacket, lovely colour. It almost hides your bump," might perhaps sound familiar to many women, particularly from the service sector, where employees are expected to look their best.

Do you like films based on corporate rivalries? Are profound relationship dramas number one on your priority list? Can you not live without an edgy thriller? Well, then Hate Story 3 is NOT meant for you.

Aditya Diwan (Sharman Joshi) is a Mumbai-based millionaire who has fingers in many pies. He controls a cola company and owns hotels across the globe and decides to open a super-specialty clinic in tribute to his deceased brother. He is also married to his brother’s ex girlfriend Siya (Zarine Khan). Just when it looks like he has everything going for him, his whole life turns upside down.

Business tycoon Saurabh Singhania (Karan Singh Grover), who likes to stand at the edge of skyscrapers, makes Aditya an ‘indecent proposal’ which involves Siya, immediately triggering a war between the two. The attacks, counter attacks and many, many bathing scenes form the rest of the story.

The moment you see what is supposed to be a serious TV interview cutting to Siya’s thighs, you understand what to expect from director Vishal Pandya’s Bathe..err..Hate Story 3 — steam, steam and more steam. A good chunk of the film has been shot with the two heroines under a shower and the two really, really like using the geyser.

Did I tell you about the second heroine of the film? No? Ok, so Daisy Shah plays Aditya’s close ally Kaya Sharma, who has risen from being a receptionist to one of the top brasses of Diwan Industries. Just in case you’re wondering about her meteoric rise, one of her KRAs is seducing the rivals. And you thought working in the corporate sector is easy! She is most aptly named character in the whole film.

Before Hate Story 3, Daisy Shah was seen with Salman Khan in Jai Ho.

It doesn’t matter much to Kaya if her company is under immediate threats — she will lend an ear only after gyrating to some remixed tunes that sound like ‘sardi me garmi hai, poori besharmi hai’ and ‘jo bhi socha sapno me, aaj dikha de sab kar ke’. Through the course of the movie, she keeps undressing and getting under the shower, but she fails to hold a candle to Siya, as far as bathing scenes are concerned. Zarine has bathed more than any other heroine in recent times. Seems like a solid case of obsessive compulsive disorder.

As if two wildly swaying, lip-licking heroines were not enough, Karan Singh Grover also joins the party. Brightly lit images and super slow motion shots also come to their aid, and together they accomplish the task of making the bathroom the most important place in the film. Oh yes, before I forget, they like to keep an Isaac Newton book on the side table while doing… well, you know what — bathing!

Sharman Joshi tries really hard to infuse some soul in this 131-minute film, but there’s hardly anything in the script. The actor is granted the benefit of doubt. Karan Singh Grover did Alone before Hate Story, so he can’t be granted any leverage. Zarine Khan and Daisy Shah look great, but that’s pretty much it.

Hate Story 3 has more turns than a road in the hills. After a point, it becomes a futile task to figure out who’s chasing who. And that makes you wait for another bathing scene. Be glad that Pandya obliges us everytime.

Hate Story 3 can boast of some fast paced editing and cool tunes. However, as a Kumar Sanu fan, I am still scarred by the newer version of ‘Tumhe apna banane ki kasam khayi hai’. It’s actually the film’s sleek editing which manages to keep the audience on their seats till the end credits. Hate Story 3 fails to leave any impression.
