Celebrity tattoo stories

2012-08-06T08:54:00.001-07:00

Though Rihanna often experiments with weird hair-do and outfits, she has kept body art thing simple. The R&B singer has left a trail of stars going down from the back of her neck that seems to proclaim about her starry life. We are mentioning just one among the many (there are 10 more!).

Where can you find a daisy, a lotus and a lady bug? The answer is on Jessica Alba. The svelte beauty has got so many of such small neat tattoos. On her arm, we can find the word “Padma” (lotus) in Sanskrit.

Scarlett Johansson has a colourful little tattoo on her arm in the shape of a sun rising over the ocean with a star in the sky. She says the tattoo brightens her mood every time she looks at it. A simple one like her! We liked it.

Wonder why David Beckham has spared his face. The hot hunk has tattoos all over his body and he even confessed his addiction to them. The long list of Beckham's tattoo includes Victoria's name in Hindi, her portrait on his forearm, the names of his children...the list goes on. We are sure those playing on the field with Beckham are glad he wears a long sleeved shirt. Imagine the distraction it would have caused otherwise!

Like husband like wife...Posh Spice too is fond of tattoos. We can find a quote from Song of Solomon in Hebrew that reads: "I am my love’s and my love is mine, who browses among the lilies." Victoria thus sealed her love for her David with a tattoo. Posh, we never knew you had a religious streak.

She is the lady that makes people go gaga! Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta aka Lady Gaga has got only three tattoos... less compared to her fellow celebs. Gaga has quoted her favorite philosopher - Rainer Maria Rilke inside her left arm that reads: "In the deepest hour of the night, confess to yourself that you would die if you were forbidden to write." Go ahead Gaga, we would love to read your stuff.

How can we forget our own Saif Ali Khan. The dude has proclaimed the intensity of his feelings for Kareena by marking her name in Hindi on his arm. We all know from where the guy has got inspiration. Since marriage seems some time away, we wonder how long the tattoo will endure. All the best Saif!

Another prominent tattoo on her body is a face of her idol Marilyn Monroe on her right fore arm.

Uber sexy Megan Fox has got many tattoos on her body. An encryption on her right shoulder reads, "We will all laugh at gilded butterflies" - a line adapted from Shakespeare's 'King Lear'. The hottie, it appears, has a balanced view of life. She has a 'yin and yang' tattoo on her left inner wrist. The cutest of all is a poem inscribed beside her rib cage that reads "There once was a little girl who never knew love until a boy broke her heart." ...

Most things about Angelina Jolie make news. The metallic butterfly's body art is meaningful and interesting at the same time. She has the phrase "know your rights" tattooed below her long neck (quite apt for her rebellious nature). On the left side of her back, there is a prayer of protection, a Sanskrit blessing encrypted in Cambodian language in honour of her first adopted son Maddox. With more than a dozen tattoos to decorate her body

The RK tattoo (her ex Ranbir Kapoor's initials) on Deepika's nape remains her style statement even after she broke up with the beloved Kapoor kid. Though she is seeing Sidharth Mallya these days, Dippy has made it clear that "RK" is there to stay. Seems like she loves to cherish those good old memories

On her left arm, Sushmita has a tattoo that reads 'Temptation' with the T shaped like a dagger. Her right arm has a tattoo that says 'Glory to God alone'. Intrestinly, her favourite tattoo is that of a tiger cub on her lower back. Sush's latest tattoo reads, 'Aut viam inveniam aut faciam', which means 'I'll either find a way or make one." Sush explained that it's a dictum that she lives by.

Likewise, the actor, who was seen with Jackson in 'Ek Deewana Tha', inked his ladylove's name on his arm. It is apparently an open declaration about their love.

Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson, who have never spoken about their relationship in public, recently got their arms tattooed with each other's name. Amy got the ink job done in England and her tattoo reads 'Mera Pyaar Mera Prateik'.

Her tattoo reads 'Daddy's lil girl'. Priyanka has a special bond with her dad and she has taken time off to take care of him.

Irrfan's look in Spiderman

2012-05-09T17:48:00.002-07:00

The rebooted version of Spiderman series will have an Indian connect. Bollywood actor is all set to play the new super-villain Proto Goblin.

In an earlier interview, Khan had confessed his his initial reluctance to sign on for the Spider-Man reboot as he 'didn’t want to be part of this violent American fantasy,' and agreed to star in on one condition – he wouldn’t play either a masked villain or sci-fi monster.

Though his role will be an important one, it won’t require him to play the red-skinned, yellow-haired Proto-Goblin.

The Proto-Goblin, like many super villains, is a normal human being who morphs into an evil incarnation.

Irrfan is one of the few stars to have made it big in Hollywood. Right from his first film ‘Salaam Bombay’ where he had a small part to play. The film even went on to be nominated for the Oscars.

Meet Bollywood's army brats

2012-05-06T10:08:00.000-07:00

Neha Dhupia
Neha Dhupia became famous by doing some bold roles and for making statements like “Only Sex & Shahrukh Khan sell in bollywood”. But apparently there’s more to her. Her father, Commander Pradip Singh Dhupia rendered his services to the Indian Navy and she studied in Naval Public School & later Army Public School, Delhi. She won the Miss India crown in 2002. Guess her army background helped her in making bold moves and explore the unchartered territory. Despite her busy schedule, she still takes time out for the annual Navy Balls and judges the Navy Queen contest

Gul Panag

One of the fittest females around, Gul Panag also comes from an army background. Her father, Lieutenant General H.S. Panag, got posted all over India and also in places like Zambia and Lusaka which exposed her to various cultures which helped shape her multi-faceted personality. Her devil-may-care attitude was for all to see when she came riding a Harley Davidson for her own wedding. Talk about making an entry!

Rajeev Khandelwal
The last time someone who made it big in Bollywood from TV was Shah Rukh Khan. And then Rajeev Khandelwal (or popularly known as Sujal from TV) followed. Though he hasn’t been able to achieve the dizzying heights that Shahrukh did, he has managed to make a name for himself with films like Aamir, Shaitaan etc. His father is from the army - Col. C.L. Khandelwal (retired). Even Rajeev tried to join the army but got rejected because of his form. This is when he realised that maybe he should try his hand at acting, his childhood dream. His army background probably taught him to struggle hard and never give up and that’s what he did and managed to carve a niche for himself among the sea of struggling actors.

Sushmita Sen

The original diva, the woman of substance is how Sushmita is decribed and rightly so. She has never been the one to give into what people think and say and has always charted her own path. A quality probably instilled due to her confident & fearless army background. Her father is retired Wing Commander Subeer Sen. Sushmita won the title of Miss Universe 1994 and subsequently entered Bollywood. Though she wasn’t able to become as successful as her arch rival Aishwarya Rai, she definitely had her unique fan following & not only for her acting skills.

Preity Zinta
This dimpled beauty's father Durganand Zinta was a Major in the Indian Army. Her brother is also a commissioned officer in the army. She was a naughty brat when young but also led a disciplined life due to her army background. She stumbled into acting with an advertisement and hasn’t looked back since. She says that she is able to manage a variety of roles (Actor, producer, entrepreneur and Kings XI Punjab owner) because of her multitasking skills learnt because of the army background.

Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra made it really big by winning the title of Miss World 2000 which made her entry into Bollywood somewhat of an obvious choice and despite speculations, she didn’t disappoint. Both her father and mother come from the Indian forces – her father, Dr Ashok Chopra, and mother, Dr Madhu Akhauri, were both physicians in the Indian army. As with all army kids, even Priyanka travelled extensively from India to the US & back to India for her education which gave her a pretty good exposure to various cultures and helped shape her personality which was instrumental in winning the beauty pageant. And thankfully Bollywood got to experience that charm.

Shiney Ahuja
Well the males with an army background haven’t been as lucky when it comes to success in Bollywood. Shiny Ahuja hails from an army family & got his education in the Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan. He made a fantastic debut & was considered one of the promising stars given his acting prowess. But sadly all that went downhill when he was accused by his maid for sexually harassing her. The case is still going on and though he has made a comeback, it doesn’t seem that he will ever touch the same heights again. But given the fact that he must have imbibed qualities like courage & never say die attitude from his defence background, he just might bounce back with a bang!

Rannvijay Singh

Rannvijay is best known for his stint on TV – Roadies winner & now a judge. He also has an army background to boast of. Though he hasn’t been as successful with his Bollywood outing as he was on TV, he still has a lot of ardent fans (thanks to Roadies). The skills he imbibed due to his background were one of the key reasons of winning roadies, he says. Well, we couldn’t agree more.

Meet Bollywood's army brats

2012-05-06T09:53:00.004-07:00

. Anushka Sharma

When you think of army brats, the current hottest sensation from Band Baaja Baarat comes first to your mind. With her fit body & bindaas attitude, she looks every bit an army man’s daughter. Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma (Anushka’s father) served as a Major in the Indian Army. Originally from Garhwal, he was posted across the country. Due to this, Anushka studied in army schools in various cantonments. She graduated with specialisation in arts from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore and tried her hand in modelling after which she got her dream debut with Shahrukh Khan in Yash Raj Productions with 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. And as they say, the rest is history!

Celina Jaitley
Celina was born in Kabul to Colonel V.K. Jaitley & Meeta. Her mother was a nurse in the Indian Army and was an Afghan Hindu. Like her parents, she too wanted to join the army. Although she didn’t taste that much success in Bollywood, she is now content living with her businessman husband and taking care of her recently born twins.

Lara Dutta
This leggy lass who recently got married and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, also hails from an army family. Her father Wing Commander L.K. Dutta is now retired from the services though her elder sister still serves in the Indian Air Force. Her army background helped her learn skills like swimming and public speaking which helped her win the title of Miss Universe and these very skills help her now in Bollywood

Bollywood's married heroines

2012-05-03T09:33:00.001-07:00

Karisma Kapoor
Karisma ruled the roost in the 1990s but cut down on her film projects after marrying Delhi-based businessman Sanjay Kapur in 2003 to focus on her family. Last seen in the 2006 film "Mere Jeevan Saathi", Karisma, 37, hopes to return with a bang with Vikram Bhatt's supernatural 3D thriller "Dangerous Ishq", where she will be seen in different avatars

Madhuri Dixit
The Bollywood diva bid adieu to showbiz after marrying US-based surgeon Sriram Nene and shifted to Denver from Mumbai to start a family. After making a uneventful comeback with 2007 release "Aaja Nachle", the 44-year-old is set to create magic in her new innings with "Dedh Ishqiya" and "Gulab Gang". Vishal Bharadwaj's "Dedh Ishqiya" is a sequel to Vidya Balan's 2010 film "Ishqiya", while Anubhav Sinha's "Gulab Gang" will see her playing a female gangster.

Manisha Koirala
One of the most beautiful actresses of her time, Manisha is also reviving her career post-sabbatical and marriage. She played a cameo in Onir's National Award winning film "I AM", but now the 41-year-old will be seen in a full-fledged role in 3D horror movie "BHHOOoo.!", a sequel to Ram Gopal Varma's 2003 film "Bhoot". While "Bhoot" narrated the story of a couple in a haunted apartment, the sequel is about a six-year-old child named Allayna.

Sridevi
She was the queen and vacated the throne after marrying producer Boney Kapoor. Her goodbye movie was the hit family drama "Judaai". But now Sridevi, 48, a mother of two daughters - Jhanvi and Khushi - is making a comeback with "English Vinglish", directed by R. Balki's wife Gauri Shinde. In the film, Sridevi plays an Indian woman married into an American household, who enrols in an English learning programme to please her family.

Raveena Tandon
Post marriage Raveena, 37, didn't completely disappear from the scene and made her presence felt with movies like "Sandwich" and "Bbuddah Hoga Teraa Baap" as well as TV reality shows "Chak De Bachche" and "Chhote Miyan 2". However, she is now set to play a protagonist and her first such endeavour is "Shobhna's 7 Nights", in which she will be seen in a bold avatar.

Juhi Chawla
She is one of the few actresses who have been active even after marriage. The 44-year-old juggled both the roles - homemaker and actress. However, post-marriage, Juhi turned to offbeat films like "My Brother Nikhil", "Bas Ek Pal" and "I AM". She also worked in Punjabi film "Des Hoya Pardes". Now she is gearing up for the release of her new film "Son of Sardar".

Top 5 celebrity confidence tricks

2012-05-03T09:18:00.001-07:00

Celebrity confidence trick 1: Kim Kardashian embraces her big behind She’s got one of the biggest behinds in show business and she isn’t afraid to flaunt it. Kim Kardashian doesn’t worry about not being stick-thin, and embraces her curves instead. Our favourite reality TV star has faced criticism from the press and even her own sisters in the past, but she hasn’t let any of it faze her. Instead of going on a fad diet, Kim realised that she must embrace the curves she was born with and turned her derriere into an icon. The backlash against her bottom has since stopped, and Kim has become famous for embracing her big booty. Go Kim!

Celebrity confidence trick 2: Mischa Barton blanks out negativity Mischa Barton believes that confidence isn’t just about how you look; it’s about how you carry yourself and how you treat others. Whilst she has battled with body-confidence issues in the past, Mischa now believes that it’s human nature to be critical of ourselves, and that it’s better to embrace what you have than sit around worrying about what you don’t have - we think she’s hit the nail on the head. Whilst we spend our time admiring others’ confidence, we fill our minds with negative thoughts about ourselves and this does nothing for our own confidence. Blank out any negativity and fill your mind with positive thoughts about yourself. If this technique is good enough for Mischa, it’s good enough for us!

Celebrity confidence trick 3: David Beckham dresses well Being the world’s most famous footballer and one of the sexiest males, you might expect David Beckham to be pretty confident. In reality, he is so shy that he sought advice from pal Tom Cruise on how to be more confident. He hides it well, don’t you think? Beckham fakes his confidence through style.
