Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has appeared in a music video with Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle, playing the role of a foreigner who woos an Indian girl.

The video shows the guitar-playing Lee miming along to a love song from the album “Asha and Friends” which was released this week.

Lee, who has a rock band called “Six & Out” at home, shot the video during Australia`s victorious Champions Trophy campaign in India last month.

Lee, 29, is preparing to spearhead Australia`s pace attack against England in the much-awaited Ashes series starting in Brisbane on Thursday.

“Other than cricket, music is my passion. When I was told I would be singing with a legend, I was glad,” Lee was quoted as saying in the Times of India newspaper.

The 73-year-old Bhosle was a Grammy nominee in 1997 and in a career spanning six decades has sung for 965 films. She is best known for folk-pop and cabaret.

“Lee sang well, he knows a few Hindi words and is a star,” Bhosle told reporters here.

Ashok Mehrotra, who directed the video, said: “Lee is cool headed and was a very focussed artist. We wanted him because he lends charisma and energy.

“It was a great experience, all done in one take.”

Lee said he had earlier turned down an offer from another Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, made when he visited Mumbai on his way home from Australia`s tour of Bangladesh in April, to play the lead role in a movie.

“I said `mate, I`ve had no acting experience in my life` and he told me that was OK, they could sort that out,” Lee was quoted as saying.

The appeal of Bollywood is clearly growing across the world and China is no exception.

In fact, a number of average middle-class Chinese families such as that of Hou Wei’s have grown up enjoying Indian cinema.

Twenty-four-year-old Hou Wei’s passion for Indian music has actually transformed his home into the site for a non-stop Bollywood hit parade.

Hou Wei says that she was first introduced to Bollywood at the age of four.

“I remember one very old Hindi movie called Awaara and another called Caravan made in 1971. These were the first movies for me. The first song I listened to was from Caravan. I remember Piya Tu Ab To Aaja ” said Hou Wei, Singer.

Hou Wei describes her first brush with the Bollywood song as nothing short of love at first sound.

“I don’t know why, but I felt that the song was beautiful, from heaven, and I wanted to learn it,” said Hou Wei, Singer.

Hou’s father, a classical Peking opera singer, says that he tried hard to encourage his young daughter’s passion for music.

“I am a Peking opera performer. I feel for music. Even I really liked Indian songs when I heard them. So from the time she was small, I encouraged her to develop interest in all kinds of music,” said Hou Lian Ying, Hou Wei’s father.

Hou describes Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Jagjit Singh as her favourite singers.

And her passion for Indian music has also helped her as Hou has become quite the local celebrity performing her Bollywood hits at parties, restaurants and even on local TV.

Bollywood’s young and talented director Karan Johar is all set to explore an untouched territory of filmmaking.

The director is planning to get into the world of animated filmmaking, which is still not much popular among the Indian audience. But at the same time Karan is taking care of the tastes of Indian cine goers.

He claims that even his animated flick will have all the ingredients like songs, emotions, drama and everything that you except from a Dharma production film. Suresh Nair is doing the writing part of the film. Karan wants to start the project early next year.

“Now, all I want is a good technical team,” says Karan.

Meanwhile, Karan is also working on his next feature film. He will also produce a romantic comedy to be directed by his assistant Tarun Manshukhani. The film is hopeful to go on the floors by June next year.

‘Guru’ leaves quite a classy impression. On one side there are some lovable songs like ‘Barso Re’, ‘Bin Tere’ and ‘Mayya’ while on the other side there is a track like ‘Jaage Hain’. Though ‘Ay Hairathe’ would invite mixed response, ‘Ek Lo Ek Muft and ‘Baazi Laga’ would have to depend a lot on the way they are presented on screen.

MUMBAI: Mani Ratnam’s Guru starring Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, R Madhavan and Vidya Balan, which was slated to release on 22 December, 2006, will now release next year on 12 January.

The publicist from Ratnam’s camp confirmed the new release date to Businessofcinema.com. “The release of the film has been postponed because the post production work is still in progress,” he said.

Incidentally, on 22 December (Christmas weekend) Priyadarshan’s Bhagam Bhag is also slated for release. What’s more, Bhagam Bhag’s release has also been postponed. Hence the Christmas weekend will now have no Bollywood film releases.

The worldwide distribution of Guru has been undertaken by Adlabs. Prior to Guru, the Abhishek - Aiswarya starrer Umrao Jaan too was released by Adlabs.
