Katrina Kaifs Chikni Chameli leads to violence

Katrina Kaif's Chikni chameli has yet again triggered violence. In a recent incident in Mumbai, a family was beaten up brutally by a group of students who had gone to watch the movie Agneepath.

Reports suggest that a nine member family went to watch Agneepath at Movie Gem cinema hall. When the song 'Chikni Chameli' came on, few students got up from their seats and started dancing with vulgar moves in front of the family.

The family objected to this unruly behaviour that led to an argument. Though the fight calmed down at that point of time, the students remained angry and revengeful. After the movie got over, the family members got beaten up black and blue by the boys at the parking lot.

A complaint was lodged by the family members that led to the arrest of few of the assaulters.

Guess what was the most sarcastic joke in Bollywood recently? Nobody knew who the heroine of Agneepath was? That's because Katrina ‘Chikni Chameli' Kaif had done some big damage that Priyanka Chopra was finding hard to repair! Bipasha Basu's alleged relationship with co-star Rana Dagubatti couldn't bring the film Dum Maaro Dum more publicity than Deepika Padukone's hippie item number ‘Mit Jaaye Gum' in the film. After Malaika Arora Khan's sizzling Munni act in Dabanng threatening to overshadow her, Sonakshi Sinha will now have to face the heat with Chitrangada Singh's item number in her upcoming film, Joker! What's more? To revive interest in a film that has been a couple of years in the making, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has roped in his protégé Vidya Balan for an item number in his production Ferrari Ki Sawaari.

As you may rightly conclude, ‘item' is no longer a dirty word. The Chamelis, Munnis, Sheilas and Razias are having a kill at the box office and such is the power of the item number that A-list heroines are now nudging out the ‘dirty' item girl and churning out the oomph themselves. But the bigger the heroine, the greater is the drama associated with the item song. Here's discussing the Great Indian Item Number!

Was Madhuri Dixit the first item heroine? If you consider a fully clothed A-lister shaking a leg to fun lyrics, she probably was. Remember, ‘Mere Pyar Ka Ras Zara Chakhna' from the 1998 Amitabh-Govinda starrer Chote Miyan Bade Miyan? She was brought in to lift the film and she did so with great élan. Nobody remembers any other song from the movie. But her first real item number was way back in 1993. ‘Choli Ke Peeche' from Khalnayak even qualified as an item with raunchy lyrics and killer moves. Madhuri had it in her to do that sizzling dance and act too in the same film.

Sushmita Sen created magic too in the Karisma-Hrithik starrer Fiza (2000) with ‘Mehboob Mere'. Probably the makers thought that slotting Karisma and Hrithik as brother-sister would not work as much as a shimming Sushmita. They were right.

In 2002, much before her ‘Kajraa Re' act, Aishwarya Rai lent some item power to the film Shakti – The Power with Shah Rukh Khan in a song called ‘Ishq Kamina.' Somewhere down the line, however, specialists started being roped in for masala songs.

Malaika Arora Khan, Mallika Sherawat, Rakhi Sawant and Yana Gupta may have wowed audiences thereafter with their moves for a long time, but then the leading ladies of Bollywood realised that the three-minute item song was causing them more loss than they could have ever imagined. They were higher on the music charts, not to mention the most played in pubs and at parties. They had better recall value and they were more in demand at award functions which could easily fetch them more moolah than acting in a three-hour film.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA

Priyanka Chopra Obviously, the stance has changed from item-no-never to item-why-not. A case in point is Priyanka Chopra who clearly moved from a will-never-do-one to reportedly asking for a solo item song in her upcoming Priyadarshan film Tezz. Her earlier attempt to try an item was with Shah Rukh Khan in Billu which was overshadowed by Deepika's ‘Love Mera Hit Hit' and Kareena's ‘Marjaani' in the same film. To be composed by Sajid-Wajid, Tezz's item song is being reportedly designed to outshine ‘Munni' and ‘Sheila' which have set benchmarks (?) in this slot. But Priyanka is sure of what she wants to do and what she wants to avoid. She has recently refused to do an item song for Saif Ali Khan's home production Agent Vinod. Reason? Kareena Kapoor, of course. The actresses hate each other not just because of the stiff competition but also because of a certain Mr. Shahid Kapoor.

KATRINA KAIF

Katrina Kaif has established herself as a queen of this art. With ‘Sheila Ki Jawaani' in Tees Maar Khan, ‘Aaoji' in Bodyguard and ‘Chikni Chameli' in Agneepath, Kat has creamed the competition. Katrina has worked for the first time in a Karan Johar production and her debut is as an item girl! The trade is abuzz with reports that a film role is definitely on its way from Dharma Productions. YashRaj has also apparently decided to use Kat's popularity and her hold over the ‘ item'. After the fresh pairing of Aamir with Katrina in their Dhoom 3, the makers are said to be looking for an apt situation for an item number.

CHITRANGADA SINGH

Art film gal Chitrangada Singh enjoys doing commercial cinema so much that she agreed to an item in Shirish Kunder's next Joker. Asked about it, Chitrangada said, “It was a fantastic number — ‘Kaafirana.' Farah Khan was to choreograph it and there was no way I could have refused it. I have enjoyed doing this dance number.” It may have raised several eyebrows but it sure has generated a lot of interest.

SONAKSHI SINHA

So much interest that even Sonakshi Sinha's first ever item number in the same film is getting a tad overshadowed. While the girl is now saying that hers is not a typical item song. Her racy number in Joker is titled ‘Dance Karle English Mein' and has been choreographed by Farah Khan. She has reportedly said that it's only Farah's association with the song that's giving it the item tag.

VIDYA BALAN

As if The Dirty Picture was not enough, now Vidya Balan is ready to exploit her new-found oomph to enthral audiences with an item number in Rajesh Mapuskar's Ferrari Ki Sawaari starring Sharman Joshi. We hear that the director of the film Rajesh, along with his mentor Raju Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, thought Vidya would be the perfect choice for this song. As for Vidya's consent, who can refuse the man who gave her a break in this industry with Parineeta?

KAREENA KAPOOR

The actress is likely to be part of the project that well mark the return of the hit Shankar-ARR-Kamal trio.
Even as she's supposedly getting ready to shoot with the Superstar in Kochadaiyaan, it looks like the Chikni Chameli actress may also land a role opposite the Ulaganayagan. The latest buzz is that Bollywood hottie Katrina Kaif is being roped in for Aascar Ravichandran's magnum opus. His forthcoming venture with Kamal Haasan is said to be a film with the highest-budget ever in Kollywood. So will
Katrina choose both projects or pick one over the other is the big question.

A source reveals, "After finishing work on his dream project Viswaroopam, Kamal is all set to do a film for Ravichandran. The flick has been titled Thalaivan Irukkindran, and it will reportedly be made on a large scale in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam simultaneously. While Kamal, Prabhas and Mohanlal will star in the three versions, Hollywood superstar Jackie Chan will also be seen in an important role in this flick. Talks are on with a big Bollywood actress, supposedly Katrina, and if things work out, the film may be made in Hindi simultaneously as well." Interestingly, Thalaivan Irukkindran was the title Kamal had thought of for his earlier flick, Unnaipol Oruvan, in which he had shared screenspace with Mollywood star Mohanlal. The source further adds, "The makers are keen on getting director Shankar to direct this magnum opus. It looks like talks are on with A R Rahman as well to score the music for this largerthan-life movie." Shankar has directed the Ulaganayagan earlier in his Indian, which set the BO on fire. The two were supposed to work again in Endhiran, but due to some unavoidable reasons, the combination didn't work out. Shankar finally made the film with Rajini and the rest is history. But now, looks like the hit combo of Shankar-Kamal-ARR is all set to rock the screen again! And if Katrina joins this team, we are sure to see some fireworks on-screen.

Vidya Balan to pull off a Katrina Kaif

She raised eyebrows with her sultry outing in Ooh La La And now, Vidya Balan is set for a Lavani clash on the big screen. Even as Katrina Kaif gets rave reviews for her Agneepath item number Chikni Chameli Vidya is readying to take on Katrina in the traditional song-and-dance space.
Signed on to do an item number for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Ferrari Ki Sawaari, The Dirty Picture (2011) star has finally decided to do a Lavani-inspired song in the Sharman Joshi-starrer.
Interestingly, at an internal creative meeting, the makers pointed out that Chikni Chameli was also a Lavani song, which might lead to comparisons.
“But Vidya wasn’t worried. She loves Katrina’s energetic dance steps, but pointed out that she could take Lavani to another level by giving it a totally new twist,” says an insider from the unit.

While Kat’s number is high on sex appeal, Vidya will be doing an “aesthetic and less sensual number” considering the nature of Ferrari Ki Sawaari. “It will be an entertaining song, but the authenticity of the dance form will be maintained throughout,” says the insider.

To put her best foot forward, Vidya will rehearse for about three weeks with expert dancers, getting comfortable with the nuances of Lavani. The number is expected to be shot in a month.

When contacted, director Rajesh Mapuskar confirms: “Yes, we have finally short-listed a Lavani number for Ferrari Ki Sawaari.” Ask him about the clash with Chikni chameli and he laughs: “For us, the best part is that Vidya is extremely excited. As far as Katrina’s song is concerned, it only inspired all of us, including Vidya, to do better.”

The actor is pleased with the development, saying, “It’s exciting to be a part of the Ferrari Ki Sawaari team, where I will be dancing to a Lavani song.”

Amid rumours of SRK-Gauri's troubled married life, King Khan raised eyeballs when he kissed Katrina Kaif at the 18th annual Colors Screen Awards.

Katrina Kaif to romance Rajinikanth Now

Katrina Kaif has bagged the coveted role opposite southern legend Rajinikanth in Kochadaiyaan, being directed by none other than his daughter, Soundarya.

"It's true. We were very keen on Katrina. Two superstars together from the South and the North would create magic," a very important member of the film's production team revealed to Mumbai Mirror. "We've been negotiating with her for some time. She is shooting for Yash Chopra, and has assured us of her dates in the next few months."

When contacted, Soundarya confirmed the developments, saying, "Yes, we are indeed in talks with Katrina and we will let you know soon."

Katrina, who is busy shooting two back-to-back Yash Raj films - Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan, and an untitled one with Shah Rukh Khan - will accommodate Rajinikanth's dates in between her tight schedule. All other portions of the film have been shot, and only the ones with Katrina remain. Her dates will be worked out soon, and the film will then be complete, the member said.

"In Kochadaiyaan, Rajinikanth plays a king, a devotee of Lord Shiva. His love story with Katrina, their songs, will be shot on an epic scale," disclosed a very reliable source. A R Rahman, who is known to take his time over scores, has recorded most of the music, including the love song to be filmed on Rajinikanth and Katrina. "Rahman is bringing 130 musicians from Germany to record the background score," the source further revealed.

As for Katrina, it will be tough but she really wanted to work with Rajinikanth for the longest possible time, according to a friend.

The first look of Kochadaiyaan, which literally means, "the king with long hair", will be unveiled in the third week of January. Of course, Rajinikanth will sport long flowing tresses for the part... even if it means donning a wig...

Actor Katrina Kaif will be one of the few actors to have worked with the three superstar Khans soon.The year that has just begun,will see the actor as the leading lady, first in Ek Tha Tiger with actor Salman Khan, then with actor Shah Rukh Khan in a romantic film to be directed by Yash Chopra followed by Dhoom 3 with actor Aamir Khan. And the year already has started on a good note for 'Chikni Chameli' as the item song is creating a buzz. “I am happy that the audience has liked the song, and all that rigorous hardwork has come to use! It’s a good start I must say.”
Talking about working with all the three Khans, she says, “I got my first hit with Salman and have worked with him in four movies, including Ek Tha Tiger. He is a very dear friendand working with him is always fun. He keeps everyone on the sets happy with his pranks and jokes. Also I am close to his family as they have been a great source of support.” Ask her about Salman praising her dance moves in Chikni Chameli and she reacts, “Oh really! That’s great but I wonder why he didn’t tell me this himself, I would love to get feedback on my performances from someone like him who knows a lot about audience choice and preferences. Nevertheless I am happy he liked it.”
She further continues, “As far as me working with Shah Rukh, I am happy that I got this opportunity because I have always wanted to work with him. And being paired with him in a romantic film by legendary director Yash Chopra is like too good to be true. Shah Rukh is known for his romantic roles and Chopra has directed him earlier, so they know each other’s working style pretty well, hence I will have to be very quick to study it. I am looking forward to it.”
Katrina will be working for the first time with Aamir as well. They will be seen in Dhoom 3 for which Kat is heard to be undergoing rigorous training. “I will be working with Aamir for the first time too and I am super-excited about it. He is known to be a perfectionist and I look forward to learning a lot from him. Also Dhoom as a franchise, is known for its look and feel along with great stunts and bikes. And I like adventure and speed so it should be fun working on it,” she adds.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif Exchange Positive Comments About 'Chikni Chameli'

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif might not be dating full time, yet, but the "Chikni Chameli" item number had them talking about each other! Just recently, Katrina commented about what former flame Salman said about her musical routine.

According to Bollywood Life, Katrina Kaif was just recently helping to launch a new line of Panasonic air conditioners in Mumbai. She commented about the positive response she's been hearing for "Chikni Chameli," saying:

"The response to Chikni Chameli has been fun so far. It was hard work. It was very fast and it was not a style I was used to, but I took it as a challenge…I think we all went for it as a team and did the best we could. I am happy people are liking it."

Bollywood star Salman Khan, also a former romantic interest of Katrina's, always likes the item number. Katrina admits she hadn't heard from him directly about it, but when told of his praise, said:

"He has not told that to me but I think that's a great thing. He has a great taste in music and songs. So, if he likes it, then it's great."

Katrina also said she is pleased with how 2011 went for her. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif will very likely be big in Bollywood news in 2012 as well. They are currently working together on "Ek Tha Tiger," which is a romantic thriller film due out in August of 2012. The former lovers will have the lead roles in this one, making for a rather interesting dynamic. The fact they get along while working, and have good things to say about each other, could lead to more in 2012 if they should decide to rekindle their romantic relationship!

Katrina Kaif on being the most ‘Googled' personality of the year in India, her films and her fitness regimen

For almost a year Sheila has been on popular demand at all parties and hangouts. Before the popularity of the song can die down, Katrina Kaif is back, as ‘Chikni Chameli' this time in yet another foot-stomping, hip-shaking number that's on the play list in most party circuits. “Keeping up to the speed of the song was difficult. But once I got that right it was okay,” smiles Katrina, who recently completed eight years in the film industry. “The journey involved a lot of hard work. Small steps eventually added up. It's important to be consistent and do the best you can.”

With new faces making their debut in Bollywood ever so often, what is Katrina's message to youngsters who want to be part of the industry? “Make sure it's really what you want. Be patient and understand that things just don't happen overnight,” says the young actor. That's probably why she believes that making the right choices early in life lay the foundation for a successful future. “The outcome of your life is defined by the choices you make. Do what you feel is right.” Katrina is currently shooting for “Ek Tha Tiger” with Salman Khan. The action movie will see the usually demure heroine doing some action stunts. That apart, she has Yash Chopra's film with Shah Rukh Khan and the much talked about “Dhoom 3”.

Katrina has a lot, besides films, happening in her life. First, as the face of the Indian Barbie and now as the most Googled personality of the year in India, Katrina seems to be on a roll. “This makes me feel special. I am happy about it. You really need your fans' support,” says Katrina.

At the interview organised by Olay Natural White, for which she is the brand ambassador, Katrina also answered questions on her beauty and fitness regimen. “I always use products that I am familiar with...brands known to me since I was growing up. When you trust a brand you trust its products.” Sharing her fitness tips she advises that while working out its important not to get bored with your schedule. “I try and go to the gym regularly. As for skin care I keep it simple and use the same product in the morning and at night.”
