Hello fellas. I'm really sorry I've been offline all this time. Here comes the explanation:

In the past year, I started some new technical design studies, and I thought I could still carry on with particle edition as a full time task. However, in this second (and last) year, the amount of homework we've been assigned to do has dramatically increased. This, combined with a probably unhealthy emerging OCD, makes me waste a lot of time in visual details, leaving me almost no free time. I barely have enough to go out with my friends and carry on with my life itself.

However, I'm not abandoning particle edition, at all. I'll get back on particle edition as soon as I can (which is probably by March). See you then, guys, and thanks for staying interested!

Sorry guys, this time I won't say a word about particles, but will be talking about a quite important event in the design world. Organized by "Grupo Versátil" and my high school, "Salesianos Atocha", the meeting gathered several designers in Spain, in which they could offer a 25 minutes speech talking about whatever they wanted to.

As in, studying there and not helping would be an offense, given that videogame design is quite related to overall graphic design. So, I volunteered and joined the staff :D

I could even meet Ana Mesas, the woman that usually offers Adobe speeches in Spain. Well, I actually saw her previously, twice (Graphispag in Barcelona, and CS5.5 and HTML5 in Madrid's IMAX), so I went ahead and told her about that. Probably a stupid move but, that time was certainly the person I've fancied the most to ever meet.

That's it. Got to study for three exams next week, so I'm sorry about the delays regarding particles. I hope you understand it, will compensate for this ;)

Particle Stream - Another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ medic beam!?

No, I haven't run out of creativity. This idea actually happened by experimenting with some wrangler effects I was trying to set up. They pretty much ended like this, throwing lots of particles over the laser spot, and somehow I managed to recreate it for the medic beam, with a much more polished look. It even refracts! hint hint

For now, only the red medic beam is done. I'll have to do the Übercharge beam and then just port it to the blue team.

Oh, and by the way; I made a quick fix that allows the default blue medic beam to rotate just like the red one, might release it with this beam as well.

The effects some of you wanted, here for download :D

I'm really glad about the success this video has been for the TF2 Community. Despite the low visibility, it's clearly one of the coolest fragvids I've ever seen. And I've had a lot of luck by getting contacted by "decap", from whom I'd have ever thought that would even talk to me, in any sense. This applies to all you guys (bon, Leshley, longas, MightyMe, ATX, Flame, and a long etcetera) :)

Warning! Do not even try to use these effects in-game. Gibbing three to four enemies at once managed to crash my new PC (a brand, new high end one) so I do not encourage it. Plus, except for the trails and the explosions, the bloody gibs are consistency-protected. And even if you use them for rendering videos, they might make your PC crash if it's too old. And they might increase significantly your rendering times, depending mainly on your GPU/CPU.

Sorry for being inactive this time. I'm currently on exams, and all the time I spend with particles is almost entirely dedicated to the Operation Black Mesa mod.

However, I made some weeks ago a brand new medic beam, but couldn't prepare any cool video for it. Want to make one for me? In that case, add me to steam and I'll send you the .pcf file ;)

Succubi and daisies

Not much to say here. All who ever played Heroes of Might and Magic V will instantly recognize the succubus projectile here, as I tried to recreate it as accurate as possible, while retaining the cartoony TF2 style. Download them by clicking the image:

The other effects were made by illii (♥ω♥), I just helped her a bit with the daisies. She will use these for a cute, nice looking TF2 fragvid, so stay tuned to her! (no download link)

By the way, thanks for all the votes with the backgrounds/header images. I'll join a Graphic Design school, and the whole making of these grants a lot of experience. <3 you guys :D

All the developers have amazing skills and also are great guys. They've been working for a long time, and also there's a ton of work to do. Everything is really exciting, it's all I can tell you. I waited a long time before doing another medic beam effect. This one was specially difficult to do, and I finally had to cut out a nice "wannabe" feature: two wings that came out of the übercharge target. While it was really cool, the wings couldn't rotate as I expected, so they completely blocked the view for the medic's mate. However, I made a good marker to compensate that con, because it only shows up when your healee is moving, and never when he's standing (you'll see what I mean right when you test it :3)

Note: You can make it work for DX8 by renaming the file "medicgun_beam.pcf" to "medicgun_beam_dx80.pcf" with no glitches or anything!

Please, in order to use these effects, please read the next carefully.

Do not reupload the effects anywhere. I will personally track the link so it doesn't get down, and if it does I will reupload it by myself
If you want to show these effects to someone, don't give them directly the download link. Instead, link them to this blog, or this specific post if you need it.
Though it's not really necessary, I'd love to see your HQ videos, some of them are REALLY awesome Post them here as a comment!!

To install it, extract the zip file and place the content (the "particles" file) in your "tf" folder. If it already exists, you may have some custom particles installed. Make sure you have a copy of them if you decide to override the new files.

While the PLDX guys work on their tool so it goes alright, I made these effects out of boredom.

The nailtrails are a neat version inspired in one of my first releases. It grants a lot of help when aiming with the syringe gun AND it has proven to be very useful when avoiding these projectiles. The critical syringes have a twirling line along with some electricity. They're best used on high resolutions with antialias activated, because long distances make it croppy.
The same file works for both DX8 and DX9, I recommend to use it only if you have a big screen resolution and antialias activated, or else you will see a lot of bad edges.

The flamethrower effects are just some default flamethrower effects smashed up with team colored flames. They look fine enough and shouldn't drain too many FPS. The crit effects are also mixtures between team colors and default flames.

The hadouken you can see in the video is made of all the separate light beam effects I made into one. I also included separate versions, having "Black", "Orange", "Purple", "Teal", "Red" and "All-in-one" available in the download link. Only available for DX9 users. Renaming the file to "flamethrower_dx80.pcf" will make the airblast effect look bad (weird squares everywhere)

Despite the cryptic title, I didn't give up with the PLDX recording tool. I just finished it. And sent the effects to Aaron^Rip and Mats, the guys who are making the program and web themselves. When they tell me, I'll publish the promotional video here along with a download link for the PLDX tool and a separate link for those who only want the particles.

However, a while ago a guy called Sparkwire, who was an old FPSB Studio mate, asked me to give him my msn address so I could talk to a ~~Swedish~~ developer ~~(was he Swedish? I can't remember. I'm sure he's from the North of Europe)~~(never mind, he's german).
However, a week or two had passed and I didn't talk with anyone. Until today, when I connected and this guy, dopefish, talked to me. He spoke about Operation Black Mesa, a mod that tries to recreate the successful mod - Opposing Force, with all the advantages of the Source engine.
I took a look over the website and the project seemed cool. dopefish asked me to do some particle effects, so I signed up in their forum and made the application thread. Lets just hope they accept me, this mod seems something big, maybe as big as PLDX, or perhaps more or less, but in any case, it would be my second mod work (the first one is "Proyect - Z" in which I'm currently stuck because the leader blocked custom content and therefore, there's no way to see any progress). Anyways, thanks for reading. Please, you know you can comment out what you think ;)

Digital Watercolors

This is not particle related, but it could be interesting for some of you to know. It is a fairly realistic program that requires a tablet and a e-pencil, in which you can simulate angle, pressure and influx of "ink", similar to the Photoshop style, but recreating the magic of the water physics, its movement and such. Unfortunately, this program is still under development. You should really check out some of the videos it broadcasts, despite its low connection speed - it's totally worth it.
