Project 30. A drawing challenge,
and what being an artist means to me

I recently celebrated my 30th birthday. Looking back on the last year brought up a lot of thoughts and emotions. Last year I almost died in a head on collision on US19. I had a long and hard recovery after extensive injuries. I began looking for ways to keep my mind and dexterity sharp.

I began a 30 day drawing challenge, one drawing a day for 30 days. Well, it turned out I couldn't keep up with that pace but I kept at the challenge and followed the topics in order. The drawings turned out to be a wonderful outlet for me.

One year later I completed the 30 drawings and put together an art show that happened to be on my 30th birthday.

The show was a celebration of being alive, surviving,and my cathartic expression of the last year thru my art. It felt so amazing that I had finished this series of drawings and was putting it out into the world.

It got me thinking about how I define myself as an artist.

Wikipedia defines an artist as a person who produces paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby. I produce many mediums of art and I'm constantly seeking and finding new ways to create.I draw inspiration from life all around me everyday. I see lines and colors, tones and shades everywhere I go. I take notice of light and shadow and I see design in everything. I can take a well composed photograph, paint, or draw just as easily as I can blend the perfect

eye shadow combinations.

For me it's all about creation, no matter what form it takes. The drawing challenge sharpened skills in a medium I had been neglecting, but it's all transferable. My line art in some of the drawing challenges improved some of my makeup application techniques. The world to me is beauty-full and I like to capture the beauty I see thru my eyes as much as possible.

Wikipedia defines a makeup artist as an artist whose medium is the human body. Makeup is an art, yes, but its more than that. I love how makeup can make you feel great about yourself. I believe that confidence is the most beautiful thing a person can wear. It is my personal beauty philosophy that cosmetics aren't meant to cover up or change you, but rather to enhance and highlight your best features. This helps you to feel extremely comfortable in your own skin and allows you to be your most confident, radiant self. My passion is deeply rooted in helping others achieve that feeling.

From drawing to makeup I identify as an artist in more ways than one and just want to make the world a more beauty-full place. I have witnessed so much beauty in my 30 years of life and I'm so grateful to be here to see more. I have learned to never give up, never stop striving,

never stop growing, and let the beauty within you reflect the wonder of our outside world.

The Chronicles of Body Painting:

A narration of using the human body as a canvas throughout time

Body Painting has long been something that has fascinated me and for one reason or another throughout my life I have fallen into opportunities where I got to experiment with this fun and niche art form. It started with face painting as a child, became a party trick around the age of 18 and when I was 20-22 my former roommate and I would do it on a Tuesday just because! Later I got asked to do live body painting during concerts at bars and clubs. I eventually worked my way to body painting exhibitions in galleries, runway shows and now I am an artist for Eyes on You Tampa that does body painting for hire.

Its been quite a personal progression for me in this medium and recently I've become more and more curious about the evolution of the medium itself. So here's a little interesting chronicle I have put together about the origins and history of body painting. It is not a complete or thorough history as I am more beautician than historian, but it highlights the key chronology of body painting as an art form.

Unlike tattoo and other forms of body art, body painting is temporary, painted onto the human skin, and lasts for only several hours. As the first instances of the use of painting materials (ochre, manganese dioxide) by human ancestors predates the first cave paintings by tens or possibly hundred of thousands of years, some scholars assume that the painting materials were used by human ancestors for painting their own bodies.

Ritual Body Art

Body painting with clay and other natural pigments existed in most, if not all, tribalist cultures. Often worn during ceremonies, it still survives in this ancient form among the indigenous people of Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific islands and parts of Africa. In these ritual art forms we find body painting, tattoos, piercing, nose-ears-mouth plugs, Mehndi, henna and scarification. The place of body art forms in these old

cultures is very important.

It is a part of their social and spiritual life and is a main element in the important moments of the human life: Rite of passage ( Rites of passage are often ceremonies surrounding events such as other milestones within puberty, coming of age, marriage and death.)

It can represent:

your origin, your position, symbol of power, what you have reached and experienced, it can be like an ID card (Maori and Polynisia), it protects from evil forces, it shows bravery and beauty, can be an act of transformation, mourning, connecting with the spirits of animals or the earth, or a symbol of fertility. In the last 100 years in some countries like Japan it has been also connected with the mafia and crime.

Birth of a new art form

There's been a revival of body painting in Western society since the 1960s, in part prompted by the liberalization of social mores regarding nudity and often comes in exhibitionist forms. Even today there is a constant debate about the legitimacy of body painting as an art form. The current modern revival could be said to date back to the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago when Max Factor, Sr. and his model, burlesque performer and actress, Sally Rand were arrested for causing a public disturbance when he body-painted her with his new make-up formulated for Hollywood films.

Body painting led to a minor alternative art movement in the 1950s and 1960s, which involved covering a model in paint and then having the model touch or roll on a canvas or other medium to transfer the paint. French artist Yves Klein is perhaps the most famous for this, with his series of paintings "Anthropometries". The effect produced by this technique creates an image-transfer from the model's body to the medium. This includes all the curves of the model's body (typically female) being reflected in the outline of the image.

In the time around 1960, artists were searching for new ways of expression, new forms of painting, provoking and shocking. They wanted attention and they had a message

The work of the Actionists developed with, but largely independently from, other avant garde movements of the era who shared an interest in rejecting object-based or otherwise commodifiable art practices.

In these times body art performances and body painting are in one hand inspired by Fluxus and Happenig movements, where it is all about the moment of creating, sexual freedom and not the final result of the art work.

On another hand other artists like Verushka were creating beautiful images where the body melted with nature,became a part of the environment. The 1960s supermodel Veruschka is often cited as being many body painters' muse. Her images in the book Transfigurations with photographer Holger Trulzsch have frequently been emulated.

One of the main body art movements in this period was in Austria:

The term Viennese Actionism describes a short and violent movement in 20th century art that can be regarded as part of the many independent efforts of the 1960s to develop "action art".

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, published annually, has in recent years featured a section of models that were body painted, attired in renditions of swimsuits or sports jerseys.

In 2006 the first gallery dedicated exclusively to fine art body painting was opened in New Orleans by World Body painting Festival Champion and Judge, Craig Tracy. The Painted Alive Gallery is on Royal Street in the French Quarter.

In 2009, late night talk show Last Call with Carson Daly on NBC network, featured a New York-based artist Danny Setiawan who creates reproductions of masterpieces by famous artists such as Salvador Dalí, Vincent van Gogh, and Gustav Klimt on human bodies aiming to make fine art appealing for his contemporaries who normally would not consider themselves as art enthusiasts.

Also in 2009, New Zealand national airline Air New Zealand created a television commercial and a safety video, featuring airline staff (even CEO Rob Fyfe) wearing body-painted uniforms. It was part of the company's "Nothing to Hide" campaign, to promote its difference from low-cost airlines with its fully inclusive fares.

In 2010 Delta Faucet brand released a national commercial featuring men that are body painted to look like they are wearing clothing, and then using their new shower head, they rinse the "clothing" off.

Gotye's song feat. Kimbra "Somebody That I Used To Know" was a major hit in 2011 and the music video featured quite a showcase of body painting.

Body painters work frequently in the film arena especially in science fiction with more and more elaborate alien creations being body painted. Stills advertising also used body painting with hundreds of body painting looks on the pages of the world's magazines every year. With the continued success of body painting, this has led to publications on this art form and also Illusion Magazine which is aimed to painters for all abilities, showcasing work around the world.

Body painting has evolved immensely as an art form since its origins and continues to grow more popular and prevelant every year. There is no doubt that body painting will remain a solid staple in human culture, and an ever progressing, unique art form. It is one of my favorite creative outlets, and another level of make up artistry that I am increasingly passionate about.

If you do attempt to experiment with body painting on your own at home, please, please do yourself a favor and make sure you ONLY use paints that are non-toxic, and specifically designed to be used on the skin.

How I survived a near fatal crash that not only changed the way I view life, but also myself.

It's been quite awhile since my last post and many things have happened that made me question whether or not I would even continue with this blog. I not only missed this forum in my life but the inspiration it has given my own life and hopefully some of yours. I have never gotten this personal here before but for me to continue and start again I must speak my truth and expose a little about me.

At the beginning of the summer I was hit head on by a man going the wrong way down the highway at 60 mph. I was then struck by another car from behind, then hit a wall. I was cut out of my vehicle and rushed to the hospital. I do not have any recollection of this happening. What I do remember is fading in and out of consciousness in the ICU as a tube was being sewn into my collapsed lung, looking down at my gaping open, bleeding arm and seeing my tendon move then blackness...nothing for quite awhile.

I woke up out of surgery. I had broken my left toe, crushed my right thigh; which later became a 2nd hospital stay for cellulitis, broke 3 ribs which punctured and collapsed my lung, my right arm looked like someone had taken a knife to it with huge open lacerations and glass embedded everywhere, there were about 35 staples and stitches holding me together. My left arm was crushed:the top of the ulna bone broken, the radius shattered and the joint that holds them together broke apart. I had reconstructive surgery with a plate, pins and 30 staples to save my wrist. My chest was black from the impact of the airbag, I had a long laceration across my chest, and glass on/in my neck and scalp....
but I was alive.

Recovery has been long and hard (and its not over) and has caused me to examine life, myself, the body, beauty, health, the universe and every particle floating around me at this very moment on a deeper and very realistic level. We are fragile beings. People have a tendency to believe that we are human bodies having a spiritual experience when in reality we are spirits having a human experience in a body. We are only passing thru. When I was faced with my own mortality I was forever changed, however, tho I may have been poised to re-prioritize my life, soak in my loved ones and be grateful for the second chance I was given I had my moments of self pity, self doubt, and even vanity out of trauma.

Besides the immense pain and inability to move, there were things I never expected to affect me. I couldn't hold my daughter. My mother had to bathe and dress me. I couldn't shave any part of my body at all for weeks and weeks, I couldn't do my hair and had to wear bandannas, I couldn't even wear a bra for the longest time. Going out into public for follow up doctor's appointments was a humbling experience.

My left arm would never look the same, it would never match the right or look like the hand/arm I have always known. I didn't even know what had been done to it or how it looked for 6 weeks. I saw the x-rays first and was flabbergasted and when the post surgical cast came off for the first time in my surgeon's office I broke down and sobbed. I felt disfigured, mangled...I couldn't believe that it was truly my arm I was staring down at. The incision looked like a zipper with all the staples ripping straight thru my beloved wrist tattoos. When the staples came out of that incision I had another meltdown. That was not my arm!!

The trauma of what I felt was my disfigured arm was the biggest trigger in regards to my injuries. I never thought I would bend my wrist again, move my thumb even. It not only injured me but it bruised my vanity, at a certain point I had to tell myself that an altered (my word of choice) arm is so much better than no arm at all. I used to call it my bad or gnarly arm and now it is known as my bionic arm. I had a full on titanium plate as part of my bone forever now. Ironically, the hit song "Titanium" was big this summer and I took it on as my own personal anthem! I became fascinated that it was even possible to reconstruct my arm the way they did, I even had my surgeon doodle me what happened and what he had done in surgery (which he found quite amusing). If this had happened to me in another era I would've died and that was incredible.

The point is something that what I once saw as ugly and disfigured began to empower me-it became my strength in one of many proofs that I faced death and chose to fight my way back. My favorite scar is the keloid scar on the side of my ribs where the chest tube had been, it makes me feel like a warrior. It reminds me that life is fragile, but that I am stronger than I think and can overcome anything that does not kill me. It also reminds me that strength is sexy and beautiful is relative.

As I write this I still have shards of glass embedded in my arm, and will someday get a half sleeve tattoo to honor my bionic arm and lay closure to any feelings of trauma. Your hardest moments can be your most solid ground to stand on because they cause you to grow, to expand. The body can achieve what the mind can perceive and scars are proof of life. It feels good to be coming back into my own and to share my voice with you all once again.

Find the beauty in your own imperfections and the exquisite in what you perceive as flaws.

I am exceedingly proud of my sissypants!! I have watched her work so very hard for the last 4 years and this momentous occasion is only scratching the surface of whats to come for her blazing bright future.

Naked 2 Update

For all those bombshell beauties who had their hearts broken when the Naked 2 palette (released 5 days ago) sold out in 12 hours.....do not fret!!

You're lids will go from nude to Naked in about a month's time!

I have been informed from a reliable source that we will be getting them in store in late January. Sephora US/Canada and Ulta will be stocking them at that time. Bombshell beauties in Europe will have to patiently wait for the release in february.

I cannot wait to see these babies stocked on our shelves and to see the look of satisfaction and delight on client's faces when they get them. There is a reason these Urban Decay palettes have such a cult following...they're amazing!

The Naked Palette Sequel: NAKED2 has arrived!!! Urban Decay does it again

Get ready to be even more NAKED!

It wasn't enough to just get the first NAKED palette, which was instantly sold out everywhere.... Today, Urban Decay unveils Naked 2 ($50), the follow-up to the iconic Naked palette.

Housed in a taupe tin case, these 12 neutral shadows can be used to create a natural look, a dramatic evening eye, or anything in between — it's that versatile. Every shade can be worn alone or in combination with each other...the possible looks are endless!

I love that it comes in a tin which is much sturdier, and easier to clean!

Foxy

Foxy is not a new color for Urban Decay, however it is no longer available. It is a creamy bisque shade with a matte finish that is a perfect base color!

Half Baked

Half Baked is the only repeated color in this palette as it was also featured in the original Naked palette. It's no suprise to see it back as so many people claimed it as their favorite shade! It's a bronze gold, with a shimmery finish.

Bootycall

I love the names that Urban Decay comes up with for their shades. This is a shimmery cork shade - it reminds me a bit of MAC Naked Lunch. This would be a fun shade to highlight the inner corner of the eyes. This is a brand new shade, exclusive to the Naked2.

Chopper

I was stoked to see this shade in the palette as Kim K's makeup artist cites this shadow as one he uses in a lot of her looks. A copper shimmer with a fine silver micro-glitter, this shadow definitely has the wow factor. Chopper has been featured by UD before, and is available individually, however, I can see this being the 'Sidecar' of the Naked 2 Palette.

Tease

A gorgeous creamy, dusty brown with a matte finish and slight purple undertones, this will be a great crease color. It is new and exclusive to this palette!

Snakebite

Remember 'Smog' from the original Naked palette? Well this is basically it's Naked 2 palette equivalent, they are very similar - both dark bronze shimmers with a metallic sheen. It's a 'never-seen-before' shade, but like I said, it's like smog's sister.

Suspect

I really like this color - it's the perfect taupe-y toned neutral. It has appeared in the UD 'Rollergirl' Palette before, but isn't available as a single eyeshadow.

Pistol

Pistol is a the perfect mix between a grey and a brown, and has a nice shimmer finish. It's pretty unique - plus, it's a new shade from Urban Decay! I think this would be a great all over the eye shade, paired with mega lashes for an evening look.

Verve

Verve is a pretty oyster pearl shade with a high shine finish. I think it would be fun as a whimsical base color and would be a perfect highlighter as well. It has been featured before in the 'Rollergirl' palette.

YDK

This is one of Urban Decay's best selling shades in individual pot form and I can see why - it's a very easy to wear cool bronze shimmer! Blends beautifully with any other shade and compliments every skin tone. Love this color and so excited to see it featured in Naked2.

Busted

Busted is a more shimmery version of MAC Sketch. It is a dark plumb-like brown that would be great for the crease, or run under the eye for a smokey look. This shade is new, and exclusive to the Naked 2 palette.

Blackout

Blackout is a matte black and has appeared in previous palettes. It has good pigmentation and isn't too powdery. I was excited to see a matte black and is one of my fav features of Naked2.

Original Naked Palette is on top & NAKED Palette 2 on the bottom~

At first glance you might think they look similar, but the original NAKED has more gold and yellow and peach-bronze hues, where the NAKED 2 has cooler more taupe colors with some mild golds, matte colors, and more muted bronze colors.

The "original" Naked: has a lot more shimmers, and more golden-gold-bronze hues.

The NAKED 2: I am so loving that they added a matte black, and more matte colors-Tease, Pistol, and Verve are beautiful!

There is only one color repeat (half baked), and instead of mini primer you get a mini lipgloss. The brush is double ended with one side for application and the other for blending.

I love that the Naked2 comes with the dual sided brush and the Naked Lipgloss, which is a beautiful nude rose- amazing, everyday wearable color that looks gorgeous on everyone!

I have loved Urban Decay for years and when the original Naked palette came out I was floored at how versatile it was, I am once again impressed, as Naked 2 is a must-have for any bombshell beauty.

This would make a great gift for any make-up junkie, or for someone new to make-up as it is so easy to create pretty, natural looks. This palette is also- oh- so perfect for anyone who travels a lot or will be traveling for the holidays-you just take this baby along and you've got a myriad of looks in one compact palette.

I think Urban Decay hit the nail on the head with this one and I can only hope they decide to make it a trilogy!! Here's to a beauty-full (and NAKED) Thursday!! Happy December my lovelies!

Trend Spotting: LED (light up) Eyelashes!!
These are so sci-fi and something I would expect to see on Tron, Avatar, or the latest Lady Gaga video!

LED Eyelashes....Would You Wear These?

As someone who loves anything that lights up (I've been playing with fiber optic hair pieces for years) these excite me. I could definitely see myself indulging in these uber-cool, whimsical accessories. These would be great for Halloween or to add a little illumination to any "dress up"occasion!

Just think-you wouldn't need a flashlight to find your keys or a book light to read by at night.

These were created by artist Soomi Park... the LED Eyelash project is brought into the world from a simple question:

Why do women want larger and bigger eyes?

Sometimes, the desire for bigger eyes can become almost obsessive, and many women opt for plastic surgery in order to make their dream come true. Soomi calls this, the fetish of Big Eyes.

Visually Stunning Animated Short by Dali & Disney Set to Purity Ring's "Lofticries"

My sister put me in the know about a free album download this past summer from Stereogum called

...featured on it is this amazing track that caught my attention right away.

"Lofticries" by Purity Ring has become without a doubt my favorite song of 2011 thus far!

Recently, while trying to find out more about them and looking for music videos I discovered this breathtaking animated short set to "Lofticries".

Upon doing further research I learned that this video was a short film called "Destino" created by Salvador Dali and Walt Disney! Their collaboration began in 1946 and more than half a century later the film was completed.

The Purity Ring Remix is so perfect with it, it almost seems as if they were created in unison. Get ready to be inspired because this video is like a rare unearthed treasure and an effervescent breath of fresh air that couldn't be more perfect on this rainy day..

A purging of pet peeves (random stuff that gets under my skin)

Hello my bombshell beauties!

I am usually all about spreading the positivity and love around but today I need to vent a few things that really urk me. Maybe it's cuz I am PMS-ing or maybe I just need to purge a few random pet peeves to bring my good vibes back, but ever once in awhile you need to purge and vent to push the clouds away and bring back your sunny disposition (or my sunny disposition in this case).

My random pet peeves of the day (in no particular order):

People who drive Hummers in Florida. Why on earth would anyone need to drive a Hum-vee in Florida, a place that is below sea level in many parts. There are no mountainous ranges here. Are you on a convoy? Quick get in the hummer so you can escape the treacherous terrain and emanating threats of seagulls, fast food, and huge, paved 6 lane highways. Thank you for emitting 3x more pollution than any other vehicle on the road, and for taking up 1.5 parking spots. Unless you are in the military, on safari, or have 8-10 kids, I seriously CAN'T understand why you would ever own one of these ridiculous vehicles.
Anti-bullying Facebook status' posted by people that used to bully/tease me in high school This one gets me all the time. Why these people even requested me on Facebook I do not understand, or furthermore why I approved their request but it just kills me every-time I see some soapbox anti-bully message on the news feed from someone who mercilessly teased me throughout my formative years. Maybe they have grown and changed and see the error of their ways, sure. or maybe they just want to seem like really good people who passionately believe in the cause-either way I don't buy it and it bugs me.
People that get into the right hand turning lane that aren't turning. Especially when it's right before a light-ooooh this one bothers me so much. There is a reason why right hand turns are allowed at red lights. Thank you for making a 5 minute trip to the store take 20. get off your cellphone, turn down your bad radio, and pay attention to where you are driving, and the people driving around you. You may just end up saving yourself some time on your own commute if you actually plan ahead and route your drive in a way that doesn't affect aka annoy all those driving around you.
Oblong toilet paper holders. I mean really? who would design something that makes getting toilet paper off the roll near impossible. Dumb....just dumb.
People that post messages to God on their Facebook status. I'm all for believing in what works for you but seriously...If god isn't listening to you, he/she (depending on what you believe) certainly isn't logging into Facebook to see if you're giving it up to him/her on your status update.
Women who wear foundation that is 3 shades too dark b/c they think it makes them look tan. Who do you think you're fooling? If your neck is a light ivory and your face is orange beige you don't look tan, you look like you are wearing a mask. Foundation is supposed to disappear into the skin giving you a coverage that looks natural and doesn't settle on top of your face like acrylic paint.
last but not least... Women who over-punish their children in public b/c they are afraid people will judge them if their kid is crying, whining, or wailing. A few weeks ago I was shopping for my daughter in Gymboree. There was a little girl (couldn't have been more than 2 or 3) who was sitting by the checkout in nothing but a diaper while her mother tried clothes on and off of her in the middle of the store. The girl got cranky and embarrassed, and began whining. The mother looked around the store and then frantically decided to spank the little girl several times while yelling at her. This made her daughter cry even harder which prompted the mom to exclaim "do you want a time out?" hmmm...you think that would've been a nice option to offer BEFORE you spanked your clothing-less child in the middle of a store. I was so appalled I had to leave to keep from saying anything. No parent is perfect but toddlers are toddlers and sometimes they have to cry to express their emotions. That poor girl just wanted some respect and loving attention from her mother and all the woman could do was beat her bottom.

Everything you need to know to flaunt a flawless face!

I know a lot of Bombshell Beauties out there get mixed messages when it comes to complexion make-up. I am here to set the record straight and give you easy how-to steps. The first and most important part is having the right tools...i.e. products! You want to invest in a good concealer, foundation, and powder brush.

Benefits of Using a Brush:

More hygienic than using fingers
Gives skin a natural, smooth, professional-looking finish
Easier to blend products
Make-up lasts longer

My favorite brush to use for moisturizer, primer, foundation and even sometimes concealer is the Sephora Collection Foundation Brush #47

Sephora Collection makes a great 7 piece anti-bacterial brush set that is a steal at $60.
**Always remember to clean your brushes thoroughly every 2-3 weeks using brush cleaner or your favorite facial wash.

Now the key to achieving beauty-full make-up results begins with achieving beauty-full skin.

4 steps to beauty-full skin (the basics):
1.) Cleanse
2.)Treat
3.)Moisturize
4.)Protect

This means beginning your make-up application with a nice even application of the appropriate moisturizer for your skin, eye cream and some kind of sun protection. Many moisturizers have SPF in them now, which is great, however, I recommend that women get their sun protection in their make-up.

For any SPF to be its most effective it needs to be re-applied throughout the day and what bombshell beauty wants to put moisturizer or sun-block on over their make-up through-out the day?

Re-applying a pressed, loose or mineral finishing powder with SPF is much more realistic for the bombshell beauties' lifestyle. I recommend using your foundation brush to apply your moisturizer.

Next is PRIMER...

Now primer is something that professional make-up artists have been using for years to achieve flawless results for film, tv, runway, and print, but it is now coming into the consciousness of the public.

Bombshell Beauties here is 4 reasons why you should always be using primer!

It preps the skin acting as a barrier between your complexion products and your skin's texture
It hydrates & makes your make-up wear longer, so it doesn't disappear 1/2 way thru the day
It makes your product last longer, because it minimizes the appearance of pores and fine lines so, you use less complexion product.
Creates a smooth, flawless finish and the perfect canvas for your make-up.

**There are primers specifically designed for certain skin types & conditions, primers w/spf, primers that are color correcting, brightening, highlighting, and light diffusing and come in gels and creams.

Apply even layer, using foundation brush to the middle of the face and blend out to the perimeter.

Concealer:

It is always good to be mindful of what it is you wish to conceal. Whether it be dark circles, scars, blemishes, or hypo/hyperpigmentation concealer can help you fake a beauty-full complexion. This also helps you to see what treatment products you may want to incorporate into your skincare regiment to address the concerns you are want to conceal.

You need to know what kind of coverage you want as well. Liquid is a lighter coverage, whereas, sticks & creams are fuller coverage

*With a concealer brush, apply a concealer one shade lighter than your foundation to disguise under eye circles, or the same shade as your foundation to cover blemishes or redness around the nose, blend using short back and forth strokes

Choosing the right Foundation shade:

First determine whether you have a foundation undertone of pink, beige, yellow, or red.
Choose one shade you think might be close to your skin's color and apply a small dot or line of it along the jawline.
Next, do the same on either side of the first dot/line using one shade lighter and one shade darker.
Blend each in and see which one disappears into your skin the most.
(You can keep moving lighter or darker if you need to)

Foundation:

There are a wide variety of foundation products today that provide sheer, medium, or full coverage, and also offer other skincare benefits.

To pick the perfect foundation for you...you need to know 3 things:

Coverage Finish Formulas

sheer matte tinted moisturizer

medium natural liquid

full dewy cream

stick

wet/dry

cream-to-powder

mineral

* You also need to consider if you want your foundation to have any treatment properties for specific skin types & conditions. (Example: salicylic acid for acne prone skin)

If you have dry skin you're going to want to use a cream, as they tend to be more hydrating.

Oily skin might want to try a powder or mineral foundation for oil control.

You want to start in the center of the face using your foundation brush and blend outward. It is always best to gradually layer and build until you've achieved the desired amount of coverage.

Ahhh Finishing Powder

This step is going to set your make-up to wear all day. Many finishing powders also mattify (control shine), minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines, and treat acne concerns.

I love, love, love me a translucent powder. These don't work as well on deeper skin tones though.
Loose powder is for all skin types and provides a natural finish.
Pressed powders these days can come with a myriad of skin concern treatment options.
Cream based powder for max coverage & wet-to-dry powder for a matte finish

Use a Big fluffy powder brush tapping excess, then buffing powder into the skin using circular motions.

I discovered this article on Psychology Today and was delighted to find that I actually learned something! Most relationship how-to's are pretty canned and generic but I think this one really offers a fresh perspective. I was especially impressed with #'s 3, 6, 7, and 9!! This is a great read for anyone in any form of relationship.

I think it's easy to make things more complicated than they need to be. Here are some basic rules of the relationship road that will keep you headed in the right direction.

1. Successful relationships take work.

They don't happen in a vacuum. They occur when the couples in them take the risk of sharing what it is that's going on in their hearts and heads.

2. You can only change yourself, not your partner.

If you love someone and think that after a while he or she will alter behaviors you find uncomfortable, think again. If you want changes, put them on the table. so your partner knows what you need.

3. All arguments stem from our own fear or pain.

When upset occurs, check out what's going on inside of you rather than get angry with your partner. Truth is that we usually aren't upset for the reasons we think we are.

4. Understand that men and women are very different.

We're not from Mars or Venus; we're not even in the same solar system. Understanding and celebrating our differences will make living together more peaceful, interesting, and fun.

5. Honor each other in some way every day.
Every morning you have the opportunity to make your relationship sweeter and deeper by recommitting to your mate. Feeling respected and cherished by the one you love makes life much nicer.

6. Anger is a waste of time.

Anger is also a relationship killer, because it makes you self-absorbed and won't allow you to see the good. If you are annoyed with your mate, give yourself some time to calm down and then gently discuss what's going on for you.

7. Get regular tune-ups.

Go to a couples workshop, talk with a counselor, or read a relationship book together at least once a year. Even if you don't think you need it, you will pick up a couple of ideas, and the process alone will strengthen your connection.

8. Find a way to become and stay best friends.

For some this sounds unromantic, but for those who live it, most say it's the best part of their time together.

9. Be responsible for your own happiness.

No other person can make you happy. It's something you have to do on your own. If you feel it's your partner's fault, think again, and look within to find out what piece may be missing for you.

10. Give what you want to get.

Our needs change with time. If you'd like to feel understood, try being more understanding. If you want to feel more love, try giving more. It's a simple program that really works.

There are no guarantees, but couples who practice these techniques have longer and stronger relationships than those who are not proactive in their love.

Unexpected Household Ingredients That Should Be In Your Beauty Regiment

As a Bombshell Beauty-full woman I am always looking for products and ingredients to multi-task for me, and I am a huge fan of seeing instant results. As any woman on the go or mother will tell you, any product or technique that can save time is a must-have! Here is a list of some of my favorite household beauty tricks, that save time, work instantly, and use natural ingredients that you probably already have in your home:

One of my surprising beauty secrets is that while I have an array of beloved foamy, bubbly bath wash products, my favorite thing to wash with on an everyday basis is good old Honey. (I prefer the bear bottle kind because it's inexpensive and cute to look at.)

Honey should be in your beauty regiment for the following reasons: It is nourishing, hydrating, has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, it's all natural-no chemicals, parabens, dyes, or fragrances, non-irritating, and it smells and tastes amazing! Great for every skin type! Plus, nothing makes you feel like more of a goddess than pouring honey all over your body!

I know you're probably thinking..."doesn't it feel sticky or goopy?" Not when wet, it is silky and warming. I like to put a thick layer on my face and let sit for 3 mins while I wash my body, it warms the skin on the face, combats oil and leaves it soft, smooth and hydrated.

The reason it is so great for your skin is that when honey is used topically, hydrogen peroxide is produced by dilution of the honey with body fluids. As a result, hydrogen peroxide is released slowly and acts as an antiseptic. This is why it is my #1 choice for shaving with. It gives me no irritation or shave bumps, with a close, hydrated, smooth shave.

My 2nd beauty secret is Johnson & Johnson's No More Tears Baby Shampoo

This mild soap-free formula has been a household name for over 50 years. I discovered its secret life as a beauty must-have when I myself had a baby. This trusted, inexpensive product makes a great make-up remover! It is gentle on the skin, mild on the eyes, makes your lashes softer, and a little goes a long way so it's very cost-effective for the bombshell beauty on a budget.

Next is plain Avocado:

The avocado is a natural moisturizer. This is why I love to use it as a hand treatment. Avocado is rich in Vitamin A, C, E, iron, potassium, niacin, pantothenic acid, natural emollients and protein that make it the perfect ingredient for any moisturizer. Simply peel and mash a fully ripened avocado and rub it into the skin on your hands, palms, and fingers, especially focusing on the knuckles, and cuticles. Let sit for 5 mins. then rinse. You will notice instant results with smoother, naturally moisturized hands!

Lastly, time tested Vaseline:

Want to have no-frills look with very little eye make-up? Try combing some Vaseline lightly through lashes for a sexy, subtle sparkle. This is a trick used on many film and television sets to catch the light on camera. It is also something Lady Gaga has been seen doing in more than one music video, to create that wide open, "sad" eye look. It nourishes the lashes and creates a natural defined "wet" lash look, and it won't irritate the skin or the eyes. Pair this look with a bronzer and your favorite lipstick and you're ready to go with very little application time.

Simply turn on, wait 15 seconds, place the comb directly onto lash line above lashes, gently lift and comb lashes (don't wiggle) into the desired shape (as you would with a mascara brush), hold for one or two seconds, then release. Repeat across lashline until the desired effect is achieved. For extra impact, place at tips of lashes, gently push up and back, hold for 2-3 seconds, then release.

DIY TUTORIAL! Fall pumpkin decorations made from old recycled books

Have a bunch of old books lying around? Give them a new life by creating unique pumpkins, perfect for autumn and Halloween decorations. I just love this cute, rustic way to recycle old books

into decor for your home for fall!

There are a few different techniques that you can use to color the pumpkins, depending on how color-saturated you want them (and how much time you want to spend creating them ).

MATERIALS

Old paperback books
Sticks
Orange acrylic paint
Mixing container
Scissors or Exacto knife
Hot glue & glue gun
Sheet of paper
Leaves
Green jewelry wire

DIRECTIONS

On a blank sheet of paper, draw and cut out a pumpkin shape (keeping in mind the size of the book you will be using and that the book will need to be able to stand up, so keep the bottom flat). Pull the front & back cover off the book. Open the book to about halfway through, and then trace the shape onto the book pages. Use an Exacto knife(for straight cuts) or scissors(for a more rustic jagged cut, my preference) to cut out the pumpkin (you will have to work your way through the book doing this, cutting several pages at a time).

Once your pumpkin shape is cut out, it’s time to give it some color! Decide which method you want to use (if you’re making more than one, you may want to try a different method of adding

color for each one):

Dip the edges in orange paint. Take a paint brush with some orange acrylic paint and brush it across the edges of the pages. Water down orange acrylic paint to dilute it and put it in a large mixing bowl or other container. Test the orange color by dipping a sheet of paper in – add more water or orange paint to make it the color you like. Then, just close the book and dip the cut edges in.

You can dip as little or as much as you’d like – the deeper and/or longer the book gets dipped in the paint, the further the color will soak up into the pages. If you want the book pages to be entirely orange-tinted, dip the whole book in the paint (this produces a really cute look, but it took almost 2 days to dry completely!).

Once the book pumpkins are completely dry, Open the book so that the first and last pages and the core of the spine are facing up. Use the hot glue gun to glue a stick (the stem), into the top of the spine of the book. Zig-zag hot glue all the way down the spine, then just open the book completely so the pages are all spread out.

It’s time to make the curlies and leaves that will attach to the top. Use some jewelry wire to create little curly spirals that will also stick out of the top of the pumpkin by wrapping it around a pen or pencil (I used a stick), then just slide it off.

Put a drop of hot glue on the end of the wire and place it into the center where the stem is, arranging it how you like. I like to wrap it once around the stem.

Next, it's time for the leaves. You could cut these out of felt or paper, but I think it gives a more rustic, authentic feel if you use real leaves. For a personal touch choose leaves from your own yard. My back yard in the burg has an orange tree so I used leaves from that to make them "Florida pumpkins".

Now let the glue dry...and Voila! You've created adorable recycled pumpkin decor from old books. Arrange them together or separately in your home for fall cheer!

Garage Sale Adventures Part 2

A few hours cruising The Burg for Garage and Yard Sales and this is the bounty...

All this from about 7 or 8 garage sales. Now my method of garage sales is this: Dont expect much from each you have to hit up many, and dig! There's usually 95%junk and about 1-3 treasures to be found at each. MANY projects will be made with what you see here! The chairs actually came as a set of 4 for $5. The lamp was 2 (it will be deconstructed and made into 2 different lamps).

My Significant Other found this 1953 Smith Corona Typewriter for $15!! Quite a find!

I scored this massive amount of old lace for $2!! Seroiusly great deal!

All in all a great day, The weather in St. Pete today could not be more perfect. I am so happy with the finds but more delighted by the notion that finding treasure is still possible...even in your own backyard! Happy Hunting Everyone!!!
