So thanks to Manda, and us asking, of course, we now have stuff this week!!!

Tuesday, we'll be working on vamping up everyone's MySpace pages. So if you have a laptop, bring it, or else you'll have to wait for help.

Thursday we don't currently have an actual meeting planned, but we'll still get together. So Tuesday we'll talk about what we should do on Thursday.

Stuffs this week are-

ANIME ADDICTS on Tuesday (tomorrow). AT FIVE PM. Aaaaaaand... I don't know what we're watching. But come anyways!

And! *drumroll*

DDR! On Thursday the 7th, AT FIVE (pm of course), we have the awesome game Dance Dance Revolution at the library. Come play, and bring your friends, so you can kick their butt at it!! *cheers in the silence* No? Okay. Well, just come, and have fun getting tired. And we'll have color this time, cause I'm gonna bring the connector for my PS2. Yay!

I am rapidly becoming obsessed with some very cool Shojo Beat Mangas, and I was wondering if manga fell under the 'Anime Addicts' category... If it doesn't, there should totally be a club at Trails West devoted to manga. That may just be MY opinion, but I'm SURE Danielle and Celia would back me up on this (and Kevin, too, but he lives three hours away)- Jake, maybe, even. So can I, like, start a petition or something?? lol

Okay people, there are officially NO meetings this week. *heart attack* As such, I think that we should try and make our next meeting something extra special to make for our lack of fun-ness. If anyone else agrees, say "I" and we can figure out something to do. Personally, I think it'd be cool if we could all bring some kind of food to the meeting. Does that sound cool or competely lame?

Today for our meeting, we had a guest come from Downtown, by the name of Helma Hawkins. She works with Youth Services for the library, and she shared information about her involvement in various LGBT groups in the area. She mentioned PFLAG, or Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, as well as Passages. PFLAG is a support and education group, geared toward the friends and family of LGBT. Their website, www.pflag.org, displays information about what they do, and the other things they're involved in, like programs in your area.

And the other group mentioned, Passages, is an LGBD group in the KCMO area focusing on being a social, accepting place, and they also give information and support. Their website, www.kcpassages.org, gives the current meeting dates, as well as their mission statement and other information.

Helma also discussed the newsletter group, GLSEN, and helped our group with ideas for advocacy in our area.

We learned of a LGBT streetfair, PrideFest, taking place on October 1st. We also began to plan events for the month of October, which is LGBT History Month. We decided a party, perhaps a Halloween party for LGBTs, would be a good idea. We'll also give info about historic moments in LGBT history.

So that's the overall coverage of today's meeting. For anyone who missed it, or showed up late. Hope you can make it to the next meeting!!!

This is Michelle, asking you guys to come to the lock-in prepared with rockin' poster ideas. Celia and I will be working on a poster for DDR, but I think everyone should come up with some ideas for posters- TAC posters, or Anime, you know: one of the clubs. We can make a whole "core group" activity out of it. What do you think?

Hey everyone, this is Danielle!!! (shock, *gasp*, ooooh!)

I'm here to tell you what's happening tomorrow at our writer's club meeting (I can tell that you're excited) . To start off the meeting, we'll be doing another writing prompt-yayness! After everyone's done being forced to write whatever WE want (just joking) we'll let whoever wants to read their stuffs do it (hee hee-DO IT-hee hee). Moving on- when that's done with, we're all going to talk about, and then decide upon, whether we should start doing some book discussions and all that yummy stuff in our writing meetings. It'll be fun....I SWEAR (cue evil, maniacal laughter). All in all, that's our meeting for tomorrow- hope to see you all there!

We get to watch this anime called... uhh... *goes off to look* It's called 'Please Teacher.' There isn't an English website for it, but here's the info from animenewsnetwork.com - "Kusanagi Kei, a high-school student living with his aunt and uncle, has an encounter with a female alien. This alien is revealed to be a new teacher at his school. Later, he is forced to marry this alien to preserve her secrets. From there, various romantically-inclined problems crop up repeatedly." It's been previewed, and it actually quite funny.

Fun Idea For The Group

Alright, I heard about this from my mom, who heard about this from the radio. This was a story on NPR (National Public Radio), and it's about how adding Mentos mints to a 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke makes the soda explode like ten feet in the air. I just thought that this was the perfect thing for teenagers. It's exploding things, but it doesn't injure anyone, and isn't illegal. According to Manda, we're going to be talking about the anime part of our Japan Festival this spring break, deciding what animes to show and whatnot. We will also be coming up with rules for the cosplay contest.

Project:

Shiny Button Bracelets (Elastic bracelets with shiny button decorations)

To make one at home, you will need:

Enough 1/2 inch wide elastic to go around your wrist and overlap about 1/2 an inch; a selection of mother of pearl buttons or any flat buttons in preferred colors; needle and thread; scissors; at least half an hour of free time

Be aware that this project uses sharp needles, and there is a possibility of poking your finger and drawing blood.

Directions:
Thread the needle with about 2-3 feet of thread, and double it over before knotting the ends. Then overlap the ends of elastic and sew together, knotting when finished but not breaking thread. Begin to sew buttons onto elastic, taking needle up through one hole on button and down the other, repeating as much as needed. After adding 2-3 buttons, make knot inside bracelet , again not breaking thread. This is to prevent all your buttons coming off if the thread comes apart. Continue adding buttons until your bracelet is covered, then tie knot and cut thread. It may be necessary during sewing to tie off the thread and get more. Just rethread the needle and continue adding buttons.

Variations of project: Making a choker (using more elastic that can go around your neck); a belt (have enough elastic to go around your waist or hips, and don't sew the ends together, but add snaps or hook-and-eyes). Does anyone have any other ideas for this?

This was a pretty easy project, easy to understand and easy to do. I certainly had fun doing it, but what about you guys? Would we want to do this again, but with other button styles? Or maybe using a ribbon instead of elastic?
