In January 2012, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS TB and Malaria marks the end of its first decade and looks ahead to the next. The Global Fund has contributed to dramatic gains in health and development over the past decade: In ten years, millions of people have received treatment for AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria who otherwise would have died.

Bono, Bill Gates, Zachie Achmat, Gro-Harlem Brundtland, Bill Clinton, Milly Katana, Yoshiro Mori and Mphu Ramatlapeng speak about the impact of the Global Fund and what remains to be done.

This World AIDS Day, December 1, 2011, ONE and (RED) are coming together to launch a campaign to help deliver the first AIDS free generation since the virus was discovered 30 years ago. By 2015, we should be able to provide treatment to the 15 million people who need it, drastically reduce new infections, and end the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies. Together these three milestones could usher in “the beginning of the end of AIDS.”

The (2015) Quilt is a virtual “quilt” of personal expression and action that will allow millions of people from all over the world to join in this effort to deliver an AIDS free generation by 2015. Envisioned as a modern, digital echo of the powerful original AIDS Memorial Quilt, created by The NAMES Project Foundation in 1986 to memorialize and pay tribute to those who lost their lives to AIDS, the (2015) QUILT lets people create a panel that expresses their support for the fight against AIDS and encourages them to make a specific commitment that will help bring about the beginning of the #endofAIDS itself. Congratulations to the winner of the 2nd Bono Street Team Painting Print! The print raised $305.00 for the African Well Fund. The funds will help provide clean water and sanitation projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. There were 32 bids and 438 views!

This beautiful Bono Street Team Painting Print, created by artist Azalea Millet, was autographed by Bono on May 21, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. I donated the print as a gift to one of my favorite charities, the African Well Fund! This print was up for auction for the African Well Fund "Got Water" Fundraiser on Ebay.

R4: The Rural Resilience Initiative
Oxfam America and the United Nations World Food Programme have launched the R4 Rural Resilience Initiative to empower farmers and food insecure rural households with integrated risk management tools, including drought insurance, risk reduction, credit and savings. The R4 Rural Resilience Initiative develops long-term resilience to the growing challenges of food insecurity and climate change.

Learn the story of one village, Adi Ha, in Ethiopia where farmers are experimenting with the program -- one that lets them trade work for insurance against bad weather. Oxfam America has been following one farmer there for two years.

Hunger is the world's No. 1 health risk. It kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined.
One in seven people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight.
One out of four children in developing countries are underweight.
There are more hungry people in the world than the combined populations of USA, Canada and the European Union.
925 million people do not have enough to eat and 98 percent of them live in developing countries.
Women make up a little over half of the world's population, but they account for over 60 percent of the world’s hungry.
Undernutrition contributes to five million deaths of children under five each year in developing countries.

Bono, George Clooney, Jessica Alba, Idris Elba and more unite behind ONE's new campaign to help focus the world's attention again on the famine and food crisis in the Horn of Africa.

Drought is inevitable, but famine is not. The current crisis in the Horn of Africa is a man-made disaster that could have been avoided. But over the past few years, we lost the political will and public support necessary to stop the starving – and its causes. As a consequence, tens of thousands of children have died.

We've also missed the opportunity to help 200 million people from poor farming families lift themselves out of poverty. Communities in Africa can cope with droughts and natural disasters. But we need donors to put resources toward seeds, irrigation and teaching farmers new growing techniques. We need leaders to invest in early warning systems and national social safety net programs.

Congress can help keep America's commitment to farmers in developing countries by fully funding Feed the Future— a life-changing USAID initiative that is investing in long-term agricultural development and could help put an end to famine for good.

Every day humanitarian aid workers help millions of people around the world. The day recognizes the sacrifices and contributions of those who risk their lives to give others help and hope. It is also about inspiring the spirit of aid work in everyone.

Today, the most pressing humanitarian crisis in the world is unfolding in the Horn of Africa. Famine has spread in Somalia, including Mogadishu, and threatens to expand throughout the south. Edun Partners with Concern to Raise Funds for the Horn of Africa

Edun, the global fashion brand co-founded by Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, is partnering with Concern during the months of August, September and October to donate proceeds from the company’s profits to alleviate suffering in the Horn of Africa.

In August, 10 percent of the proceeds of Edun’s entire fall collection will be donated to Concern, with a further expansion planned during the months of September and October, when 100 percent of all proceeds from the sale of a specially designed EDUN/Concern t-shirt and the Poem Scarf will go towards funding Concern’s programs in the region.
