Collecting a 'Tick' involves going to a pub/bar/club and consuming an alcoholic beverage.
I will also rate each bar on 4 important criteria for choosing a place for a brew, Ambiance, Pretentiousness, Beer Range, Prices. This will come together to form an overall rating.
Ill post the full list at some stage soon, but upon extensive research, it has been discovered, that currently, there are 240 bars in Melbourne's CBD. Now, there are rules that govern what goes on the list and not, here are a few...

Bar must be in the CBD 'Grid' - Melbournians will know what this is about, but for those unititiated, the 'Grid' is bounded by Flinders St, La Trobe St, Spencer St and Spring St.

Alcoholic beverage must be consumed - You cant drop in and have a coke, or just poke your head in and say you've been there.

Bar must be in its bar setup - controversial one, but work lunches when the bar is actually a restaurant or sub-par eatery, does not count - make some effort.

My current tally is kickin' around at 90 out of the 240.
The 90th tick was last Wednesday night - Murmur Bar - nice, quaint - rating 6/10
Since starting this challenge, I have realised how hard this might be to complete...
I guess its along the line of Heath's Project 183 - btw, there is a link on there to Boofspace!

Snow Shenanigans!

A weekend at Falls Creek in Victoria's north east alpine region promised a lot... the best slopes in the state, staying in one of the best apartments, best location.... and alcohol.
In the end, who would have thought you could have such a wicked weekend without there being any sign on white stuff other than pieces of Vegas's regurgitated pizza after a big Friday night.
Zero Snow = Kids making their own fun. Given that I think Connex is the scourge of the earth, I thought he would never get it done. Props to him though, not only did he complete the task, but got plenty of mainsteam coverage from it.
Looking further into it, he has a list of 183 things to do before he's 30, which of course, got me thinking about putting together my own list. Yes Luke, it is your fault, damn you for having a birthday the night before a big race.

So we stumbled drearilly out of Quake's car, both Beeny and Quake bubbling with excitement - i know they were hiding their tiredness just to help me out - cheers, appreciate it...
In to the bike compound to set up our gear - ready and rearing for quick transitions. - if we only saw my tyre...
Then it was time wasting time. Beeny set off at a rapid pace - cruising through the swim, fairly lashing through the bike and caning the run, and he was done without breaking a sweat.
Quaker set off, knocked off the course beautifully and tagged the 'finisher', the 'anchor', The Boof.

Off he ran, almost awake by this time, crashes through the massive surf, battling a leg tearing rip, and getting kicked in the face by all and sundry. He breaks out of the water like the guy on the nutri-grain ad, tears up past the roaring crowd, jumps on the bike and runs it out to the starting point for the ride. Gets on the bike - it seems a little harder than normal to pedal, must be the burning legs from the swim, it'll pass - no big deal. 5km in and we are really struggling - maybe should have trained harder, but why is this large chick pedalling past me as if im standing still - i looked down at the front tyre - damn it, should have known. The bottom of the tyre struggling to move across the scorching bitumen, looking worse than a 100kg chicks muffin top when wearing size 12 jeans. So there it was all energy expended just trying to get this hunk o' junk across the line. We finally got there, jumped off it, and have never felt so free. Given the amount of energy I had to expend on the bike, the run was pretty good. Knocked it off and passed tons of people, it was always going to be the Boof's strongest leg. Ran through the finishing tunnel like a superstar, adrenalin pumping, high fives to Beeny and Quake and pipped the Channel 7 guy on the line - thats gotta count for something.

Sore for the rest of the week, but I can tick it off the list. But the frustration has given me renewed vigour to know I can do better next year, so if I can find team mates im in like Flynn.

Next stop - the 15km run for the kids. No tyres, no water, just the Man and the Road.
The Boof - out.

GCC07 - Update (finally!)

I know i've been slack recently, but sheesh, its hard to type on the laptop while im walking along seeing the stuff im seeing!

I left you last time on Everest, with a fairly decent view! Since then we have been through many countries, and picked up many experiences and stories to tell...

We went thru Tibet, then Myanmar, before getting to Phuket, Thailand. Man, ive never seen such a nice place ruined by tourists! Except for the time John Howard tried to play cricket...people were shot....anyway, Smshr wanted any excuse to pull out her Orange paint can...(she called it fake tan, but it looked more like she was the love child of the Red and Yellow Wiggles), so we walked along the beach, admired the white pointers...then sailed off into the sunset towards Vietnam.

Mezza decided to show us around, and proceeded to walk us around in circles, which made us vulnerable to passing from the other teams...the Turtles seemed to find a second, third or twenty seventh wind to head off into China before us...

So here we sit, with blisters bigger than Smshrs overdraft, and legs sorer than if they were chainsawed in the Schwarzer cup...

Where are we? 279th - walked 3083km - stay tuned

GCC07 - Conquered the World!

Everest, its Man's greatest challenge, clibing to the top of the planet we live on. It took us about a week, but we managed to scale the heights and crack what only a small amount of people have achieved.

We feel as if we are in peak physical condition, and are determinedly chasing down the leaders. The Top 100 is where we are aiming, and we are slowly making our way there. We felt as if we gained some ground on the climb and with a young team working together, we will get there soon enough.

We are now just on the outskirts of Tibet, getting ready to head alot further south. Where to? Stay tuned because regular updates will continue...

The turtles seem to have surges and falls, but its consistency that will be the game winner in the end. I just emplore them to make sure they dont burn themselves out too much, and not to focus on us as a team to beat....

The stiffs are really improving, and are doing it for the company, with one member being so ridiculously crazy that they ended up walking off on their team and hitting the 45000 mark trying to carry the other members. Just remember that one man cant beat a whole team...

Update: 232nd place, Ave: 11750

GCC07 - Pakistan

So out of the middle east and into Asia we trundle...improving steadily all the time. The Pigeons have taken flight and are brandishing their strawberry feathers to anyone who may cross their path. A three pronged attack from the Ezza family - Tezza, Mezza and Brezza... Mad Dog Madigan was disappointed that he had to change nicknames to be a part of the Ezza's but his leadership and motivation is helping the two tiny Ezzas to bring their passion to the fore.

Mr Ed has now officially sworn off apples for good after meeting the Witch from Snow White on the plane to Pakistan, no matter how much we told him, he said that he was still addicted to the sweet, sweet taste of the red apple that grows in faraway lands. So yeh, he passed out and had to wait for Smshr to kiss him and bring him back to life, only problem was that she had just finished her 43rd mars bar for the morning... and like the ad says "Mom says chocolate isnt good for horses......but you can have the rest of my milk....." So he was then rushed back to the medical facility strangely run by Eddie McGuire (he really is everywhere) where he was quickly nursed back to health by his long lost Aunty Atilla....

We got to Pakistan and a balmy 54 degrees celcius greeted us when we arrived.
Smshr had worn through her 98th pair of shoes, and was hoping that she would get a letter from the Queen when she got to her 100th, sadly all she got was a letter from the bank that her account was overdrawn from buying too many shoes....

Lilian, Boofhead and the others continue to work hard, with the steps slowly increasing, i have a feeling we might be headed somewhere near the himalayas, and Everest....but we will see.

News of other teams is not good, the Turtles lost one of their members for a week, and even with her return today, are still looking down the barrel of a gigantic deficit. No sign of any Pigeon pie as yet, seems that a turtles mouth is alot larger than its feet...The 'Stiffs' are going ok, although im getting unofficial reports that they want to take out one of their own, as some of the group are getting sick of carrying the others on their frail backs...The Globetrotters are still seething that one of their members has gone to India without them, so they are walking there to pick him up so he can help the team.

Update: 138th place average 12,208 steps per person per day

GCC07 - Qatar, Bahrain and UAE

Well, conditions and positions have definitely improved since the last post (No Anzac pun intended!), We found Mr Ed, he was chomping on Apples back in Egypt and got taken for a ride because they thought he was really a talking horse.... we are definitley glad he is back, and it means that the 7 of us now move alot faster than 6 of us, because we dont have to look for him.

With our enhanced speed and new found team spirit, we zoomed through Qatar, not even stopping to ask why it wasnt spelt with a 'U' after the 'Q' (they even teach that in schools in Geelong...), through and past the new F1 grand prix circuit in Bahrain and across the ditch to the United Arab Emirates, where we had a break wining and dining with a sheik and Eddie McGuire on an Emirates jet.

Sometimes speed can be hazardous to your health however, and with speed comes danger, just ask Mezza and Lilian, who were trudging along with such haste, that they walked right past the World Famous Qatar DFO, and missed the opportunity to go shopping while we were there... upon realising this they started blaming each other for missing it and a disagreement quickly turned into punches being thrown. Needless to say, the enforcer of the team Smshr, quickly diffused the situation by flexing her biceps, and the girls were frightened enough to cool down and keep walking.

But that is all behind us, as we travel towards India, plenty of speed to be had when we all sample the curries that await, should put a bit of a booster rocket behind us.....if you know what I mean.....

In terms of the competition, we have improved significantly, as a number of teams got bogged down in the desert, we have passed a couple of hundred teams since I last updated this, and are currently sitting in 172nd place, with an average of 11,042.

A great effort by all the team, and we all thankyou for your support from all the way back home in sunny (?) Melbourne.

By the way, the Walking 'Stiffs' are still somewhere up near the front, but I heard that they are struggling with their fitness, and are worried by our impending attack on their lead....the 'Tenacious Turtles' are now so far behind, that there is actually a team made up of real turtles that are now beating them! The EST Globetrotters are struggling after losing a member in India, so they are also in our sights. Stay tuned!

GCC07 - Into Iran

Quick update today, we hit Iran with our pigeon tails between our legs, the Turtles went straight past us and out of sight. Our GPS says we are catching them slowly but surely... We have an issue with one of our own, Mr Ed, who has been missing for 6 days.... hopefully he will catch up to us, as we cant trek along much further unless he re-joins the team.

There has been lost of motivational talk going on within the team, trying to get the numbers up and catch up to certain teams, the goal is Top 100, so we all need to push alot harder to take over the next few hundred teams.

Team place today: 592nd - Ave per person: 10,120

GCC07 - Egypt to Middle East

Well Egypt was about as much fun as a poke in the eye, but thats ok, there are still many weird and wonderful places to visit on our challenge.

Day 11 sees us reach the treacherous middle east, and we are all thouroughly looking forward to heading around this part of the world. More troubles for us on Day 9 as Smshr O'D lost our compass! Yes Bree, you are correct, we will never forgive you. Luckily the TBA team known as the Walking Sticks - maybe closer to the Walking 'Stiffs' by the look of them....anyway, they had a spare compass that they got from a Coco Pops box that they graciously gave to us as they swooned on past...apparently they had been playing possum for a while, letting all teams go past them then go on a power trip and zoom right past. Only problem was it cost us two of our blankets, so Tezza and Mezza were forced to sleep in the one sleeping bag until we got to the next destination. So we are now back on track, with lots to look forward to, hopefully we can catch up with the leaders at some stage, its all about endurance after all, we are waiting for some teams to lose interest... Plus we now have a decent reason to destroy the competition of the Walking Stiffs.

We also caught a glimpse of some tenacious turtles as we made our way out of Africa, they were somewhat of a motley crue, however it definitely gave us a hurry on when we saw them. Apparently they can be quite ruthless when they are wearing grumpy pants...

Either way, we forge ahead into the unknown, ready to knock down any competition we come across, our aim? Top 100 by next month.

Update: Currently 569th place out of 3369 teams, Daily average per person: 9675 steps

GCC07 - Walk the World

GCC07 - Global Corporate Challenge 2007 for those not in the know.... kicked off last week with much excitement and anticipation.

So the team, known as the Strawberry Pigeons - Big Bad Brendan Mad, Smshr O'D, Mezza, Tezza, Lilian, Ed and the Boof himself set off from a remote valley in Ethiopa on their way on the epic trek.

So 6 days in and we are making plenty of progress - walking across the vast African desert is arduous, but of course we still have 120 days to go, so things will get plenty worse before they get better.

Our first issue came with a sore toe from Smshr O'D who complained that her high heels were digging into her little toe. Some of us suggested that heels were not quite the appropriate footwear for a trudge through the desolate mountains of Ethiopia, but she insisted that she was ok to continue the rugged struggle to come.

We are hoping to avoid any significant injury or illness along the way, with reports that a rival team member had been crushed by a motorcycle only making the Strawberry Pigeons more wary.

So a long way to go - here is the current leaderboard, with the pigeons getting off to a solid, if not emphatic start, everyone knows that consistency is the key, tortoise and hare sort of idea...

And so it is that we continue our journey headed for the historic city of Cairo, place of riches, pharaos, and great big triangle shaped thingies made out of big rocks that look kinda cool..... keep visiting for travel progress.....

BoofSpace is Live!

Thats right, the Boof is in town, and he is live on the world wide tosser....i mean, web.

Here is where you can keep up with all the completely random bits of rubbish that happens in BoofSpace!

How much of it is true?
