I also shorted 200 shares of SBUX this morning at $23.05. Just trying to diversify a little bit here. With AMZN dropping so much I kinda want to protect myself on the downside, just in case. BBY got pummeled over the past week after reaching the high $45s. I wanted to reshort so bad, but I slept on it. I should’ve done it, since AMZN tanked…BBY was sure to follow.

That’s about it for now. I should probably email my trading buddy. He probably exited all of his longs, and is most likely short now. I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case.

B00gspace surpassed my goal of 10,000 users last week. We’re pushing 11,000 now. Pretty sick how far we’ve come. Word of mouth has been our biggest advertiser to date. We’ve also spent about $1,700 on Google Adwords so far. Maybe $2,500 total on marketing expenses. The good news is that we’ll definitely make that money back from the site, as the sales are going well. I’m still committed to the idea of spending all of the profits back into marketing for the first five years.

Now that I have the top 70% of links going through affiliate sites, we’re capturing the majority of the sales. By the end of the year, I think I’ll have a better picture of the profitability of the site. Next stop will be 100,000 users.

I was looking at Elfster.com, our closest competitor and here’s a chart of their traffic from Quantcast.com:

From what I gather, they have about 750,000 to 1,000,000 users on their site. They’re averaging about 80,000 unique visitors per day. Right now, we’re getting about 4,000 daily uniques per day. Here’s our chart:

From what I’ve read of the customer feedback, B00gspace is better than Elfster. Yes, I am biased, but I kinda have to be.

I’ve always believed that in order to start a successful business, you have to acquire the customers first. Once you get the customers, then you can do whatever the hell you want. Look at Twitter. They make nubbins, but their company is valued at billions. I just saw that Yelp was in talks with Google to be sold for half a billion and they only have revenues of about $30 million. Jesus, they’re being valued at nearly 17 times revenues. That’s sick. Groupon.com is valued at $250 million. Pretty sick.

Anyways, 10k customers is not much, but I’m pretty confident that we can get up to 100k by next year. We’re already close to 11,000 already, since last week. That’s a 1,000 new users in about a week.

Pretty exciting stuff. I’ll try to blog more about numbers once the holiday season is over. I don’t know about you guys, but I like reading about numbers from other companies because numbers never lie. By “numbers”, I mean revenues, expenses, profit margin, etc.

Remember that adwords campaign that I setup earlier in the year? Well, I just started running the campaign again in October, and damn, this thing has generated over $1,600 in sales already:

Pretty sick. I’ve barely done a thing. Just tweaked the adwords campaign a little bit, and let it run. This is the kinda money that I like making. Zero work, and the check just comes rolling in.

This is also the 2nd best year for Boogster, so things are going well on the business front for me in 2009. I’ll talk more about the businesses in the end-of-year wrapup.

Time to roll out and do some shopping. 7 days til Christmas. Don’t sleep.

My dumbass didn’t get the other person’s insurance information, so I am going through my own policy to get the work done first. I guess my insurance goes to the other guy’s insurance and tries to recooperate the money. I’ve never been in an accident before, so I was a little bit clueless as far as what to do. I did call 911, so the police has a full report of the incident.

I’m gonna be a little bitter if I even have to pay a dime out of my own pocket for this F’up. My car is already pummeled, that sucks enough. It’s gonna take 3 weeks to fix too. What a beatch.

Still haven’t done anything with my longs yet. Holding tight here. I may lighten the load soon. Will keep 100 shares of AMZN for the longer term though. The 200 day MA is hovering close on DIA, so I expect one more sweep the legs for the shorts, then perhaps an extended consolidation. Still looking for 1130 on the S&P. Nothing to do, nothing to see…just carry about my business until we get there.

Walmart has a 1GB text file of products. No clue how I’m gonna import all of those products into mysql. Pain in the ass. Not sure why they don’t just allow deep linking. A redirect url is the best.

I tried to figure out the Amazon Web Services API the other day. Spent probably 5 or 6 hours trying to figure out how this thing works, and f me, was it confusing. Maybe not really confusing, but they do some weird crap to their URL…some hash / encryption crap before you can get the xml response. WTF? I gave up.

Anyways, we’re up to 6200+ users now with basically only using Google adwords as our marketing vehicle. The sales are pretty slow though, compared to the online gambling side, at least. I mean, each sale at a site like amazon.com earns us anywhere from 4% to 10%…average is probably about 5%-6% because there are different tiers for different categories, like electronics and third party items. I would say most gifts average about $25-$40 bucks. Volume is definitely the key here. More users, more sales, then the 4% – 10% will add up. My plan is to put 100% of the profits back into marketing for the first 5 years. The good thing is that the site is pretty much self-sufficient. I do put a little work into customer support, but it’s not bad.

Anyways, it’s pretty exciting watching this thing grow. Who knows what will become of it, but I think the fun part is now. Turning nothing into something.

Onto the stock market. I added 100 shares of AMZN yesterday at $136.03. This stock is a beast. No joke. Usually I sell here, after such a strong run, but I am going opposite from now on (just like my sportsbetting). Fake left, go right.

Here’s what I’m seeing with AMZN:

Now, take a look at RIMM from 2006:

Similar breakouts from multi-year highs. I’m not going to go all “chart-stupid”, so make your own conclusions on the two charts.

I’m still sitting tight on my longs for now. I think we still have a few weeks left of the run. Regardless, I don’t expect this run to end on a dime. We’ll reach a high…do a little consolidation, then another wave will start. My plan is to ride this bitch up til the end of the year, then sit tight on my declining US dollars.

Time to roll out. Oh yeah…dumped $600 at Full Tilt a week or two ago, playingn $0.50/$1.00. WTF? I’ll post a chart some time. That’s about it. No sportsbetting for the past two weeks. Oh yeah…played in a $75 poker tourney in a firehouse last Friday. Busted out with pocket aces on a board of J-9-4-2, and the dude was holding J-8…caught his 8 on the river…bye bye. Luckily, I swapped 10% with my boy and he took home $1,000, so I ended up winning $15 in the tourney. Unfortunately, I lost $180 in the $1/$2 NL cash game, so another net loss. What the hell happened to my poker game? I think it’s time to hit up AC. OUT.

It’s an online directory of casino sites. On the left, they have the sites broken down by three different countries, USA Online Casinos, UK Online Casinos, and Euro Online Casinos. Then, there’s also a link of blacklisted online casino sites and online casino software reviews.

This site is a pretty standard online directory for online gambling related sites, including poker, bingo, and casino. I like the clean interface, simple design, and ease-of-use. I noticed that it has a google page rank of 5. I’ve never gotten into SEO with my sites, but I imagine that OnlineCasinoSuite.com gets their traffic from SEO. They also have a Gambling Forum and Casino Blog. The Gambling forum looks relatively new as it only has a few posts entered and the blog looks fairly new as well.

The best feature of the site is that they list all of the blacklisted online casino sites. There are so many scam sites out there these days, that it’s imperative to find out which ones are legit and which ones are not before making a deposit.

One thing that I wish they had more information on is for their online poker page. Looks like they’re just promoting Poker Stars at the moment.

I’m a poker affiliate, so that’s kinda something that I can relate to and talk more about. They also need to work on cleaning up all of their pages with the new web design, as I navigated to several of their pages and got the red border instead of the new blue border:

Anyways, check out OnlineCasinoSuite.com if you haven’t already. I’m sure that they will be reading, so any suggestions or comments would be great.

100 AMZN at $$118.65

200 DIA at $97.85

250 IWM at $57.50

250 QQQQ at $41.47

The general consensus seems to be that we’ll rally all the way up until the end of the year, then what happens after that is unknown. I’ll probably take some or all of my longs off the table if the S&P reaches the 1130 level. I don’t have any intentions of adding any more longs, nor will I be shorting any time soon. I might add a few short positions closer to the end of the year, but not now.

Lately, I’ve been kinda obsessing with B00gspace.com, the new website that I created a while back. It’s a secret santa / gift exchange website that I started in 2001, then paid someone to redo the graphics last year. I made a little bit under a $1,000 bucks with about 2000 users last year. This year, we’re at a little over 4000 users now. Hopefully, I’ll make a little more that I did last year. Enough to cover my costs at least. I’m spending about $35/day on google adwords right now. That’s gonna amount to almost $2,000 once the year is over.

Things have been going pretty well. My goal is get about 10,000 registered users by the end of the year. I think it’s doable. I think Elfster, our main competitor, has about 750,000 users right now. I’m a little biased, but I think our product is a little bit better. They definitely have a nice head start though. When I was checking for competition last year, there weren’t nearly as many players in the space than there is this year. All of the big name sites, like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, etc…have wish list features now. I don’t see these e-tailers as competition though because Boogspace is more like a social network type site, versus a place where people go to buy stuff.

I’ve been putting in a lot of hours working on the site. Adding new features, fixing bugs, etc. I’m having a lot of fun watching this thing grow. Kinda like how Boogster started. I remember making $65 the first month, then over $10,000 by the end of the year and that was only 6 months. It’s exciting seeing hundreds of people sign up every day. What will be more exciting is when the dollars start adding up.

So, I found this cool little program called StatsRemote the other day. God damn, I didn’t even know that a program like this existed. Basically, it logs into all of your affiliate programs and grabs all of the earnings information from the site and puts it into the program. I can just start the program up and BAM, all of the earnings from all of my affiliate programs show up in one little screen.

It’s got pretty much every single gambling affiliate program, and all of my non-gambling related affiliate programs like Commission Junction, Amazon, Linkshare, Google Affiliate Network, ebay, etc. I found that there are some problems with a few of the sites, but overall, it’s pretty money. I’m signed up on the 7-day free trial plan right now, but I think I’ll probably subscribe. Not cheap for sure. $29/month for a month-to-month payment plan, or $299/year. The coolest thing about it, is that you can have it send daily emails with stats updates, and have the stats file uploaded to an FTP server, so that you can access the stats information from anywhere, including my money iPhone. This program is gonna save me a ton of time because I normally logon to all of these programs (70-80 of them), manually, every day.

Let’s see, I’ve been playing a little bit of online poker lately. Mainly because I started betting on some NFL games, and I’ve been losing. Sportsbetting is the biggest scam ever. You just can’t win. I’ve dropped almost $500 over the past few weeks. I remember a few weeks back, I was down like $200 on NFL bets, and there was no night game because of the World Series, so I decided to try to get my money back on the baseball game. I put a cool hundo down on the Phillies +1.5 or something like that. They were doing good until Brad Lidge came in, in the 9th and gave up 3 runs. I don’t even watch baseball, but when you got a hundo riding on a game, you watch every second of the damn game. Damn Brad Lidge.

So I’ve been getting crushed on sportsbetting. I put a little on Couture last weekend, and I got so lucky with that fight cause Vera definitely won that fight. Hah. I wasn’t complaining though.

As for online poker, I deposited a little bit at Sports Interaction, and sure enough…-$800 just like that. I was getting some incredible bad beats though. I’m talking about hitting the second nuts on the river and getting beat by a turned quad, which was checked. A SHOW. I was playing pretty loose too, but definitely something fishy with what was going on. I ended up winning a little bit back on FTP and Stars, but still about -$700 for the past few weeks. I guess I’ve been due too, since I was going straight up for a little bit there:

The sad thing is that I knew that I was going to start losing too. Always happens. It’s funny how these poker charts follow the same patterns as the stock charts. Too bad I’m not good at analyzing either…hah.

Alright…gonna finish watching this Man U vs. Everton match. Don’t sleep on Ortiz vs. Griffin tonight. I think Ortiz is actually an underdog in this match, and I want to bet on him, which means that Griffin is probably the smarter bet. I may throw a mini-dime or two on Griffin. He’s -132. Also, Koscheck is an underdog to anthony Johnson, which doesn’t make sense to me, since Anthony Johnson is fairly new to the game, but again, I am going to use reverse psychology here and bet on Anthony Johnson. I’ll probably throw some coin on these two fights. I think Phil Baroni stinks, but I don’t put Amir at a 2 to 1 favorite to win over Baroni. I don’t think Amir has even won a fight since his TUF finale victory.

I’m out.

The WSOP main event final table starts at noon tomorrow. Bluff Magazine will have live audio of the final table starting at 3pm. It seems as though there’s been a lot of confusion in terms of dates because when I google “WSOP ESPN”, some sites say that the final table starts on the 9th, some say 10th, and I still can’t find exactly when the final table will be aired on ESPN. Pretty stupid if you ask me. They should’ve set the schedule a long time ago.

Alright, so it looks like they start on Saturday at noon, then the final two go back on Monday night at 10pm to finish the tourney. Then, on Tuesday at 9PM, the final table will air on ESPN.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4622909&name=poker

I’ve been watching the last few episodes of the WSOP on ESPN and this guy Darvin Moon seems like dead money to me. I think his lack of poker odds knowledge will eventually catch up to him. In one hand, he cold called 1.4 million chips with pocket Tens after a raise and reraise. Phil Ivey has a 1 to 6 chip deficit to Moon, so it’ll be hard for him to make a move without gambling a little bit. Jeff Schulman is a skilled veteran too, so I don’t think that he’ll be giving up his chips easily. From what I’ve seen though, he’s played pretty standard ABC poker, more to the tight side than not. Anyways…it’ll be interesting to see who takes away the multi-million dollar first prize.

So…I’m still holding onto my longs. I added 100 AMZN at $118.60 and 150 IWM at $58.01. I really feel as though I should take profits here, which means that we’re probably going higher, so I’m gonna sit tight. I think my buddy is still 30% long here, waiting to add if we dip lower. I will be quick to take profits if we continue higher over the next two weeks. I really want to end the year on a positive note, so I’ll sit out if I have to. Protect thy profits until the end of the year…that’s how I’ll be playing it.

Alright, gotta go. Don’t sleep on Fedor vs. Brett Rogers tomorrow night.

Netvibes is my primary RSS reader. I think it’s the best out there. It’s also my default site when I open up Firefox. Anyways, it looks like they’re coming out with a real-time feed thing called Wasabi. It sounds interesting. My guess is that it’ll be similar to Google Wave/Twitter/Facebook live feed. Seems like the all the big guys are going into “real-time” info…how do I grab a chunk of that change?

Anybody else gonna get this?

The Godfather of Poker: The Doyle Brunson Story

Doyle’s been talking about it on his blog. He said that he’s reluctant to release it, which means that there’ll probably be some juicy stuff in there. I’m gonna get it. I’d like to read about those stories of him playing high stakes poker back in the mob days.

So, I dumped out of all of my short positions yesterday. All in all, I think I made about $3k total. BBY, SBUX, QID, DXD, TWM…everything. After getting that email from my trading buddy, I went long these:

200 DIA at $97.68

250 QQQQ at $41.47

100 IWM at $56.83

Nothing big, just something to get me in the game. The McClellan oscillator closed at -350 yesterday. That is sick. Definitely an oversold extreme. I don’t have an exit plan yet, but I’m just gonna let it go and see what happens. Eventually, I will get back into my long AMZN/short BBY pair trade. I will also get back into my SBUX short. And I will continue to add IBKR every 10% lower. On top of this, VCLK is coming back down to my buy zone. I may add some shares today, since we dropped over 20% in the past two days due to an earnings shortfall. I like the stock and will be adding to my longer term portfolio. I’m looking at 1000-1500 shares. As a matter of fact, I just bought 300 shares at $9.7.

I’m not gonna go too crazy on the long side here. Just gonna start accumulating some stocks that I like for my longer term portfolio. In the next 6-12 months, I am expecting lower prices, so that’s how I will be positioning myself. More weighted to the short side than the long side. With some pair trades to hedge my short bets.

So, I switched mine over this morning. With the switch, all voicemails are transcribed and sent to me via text message. Also, all voicemails will be stored in my Google Voice account, even if I were to switch carriers in the future. Pretty cool stuff. I like keeping all of my data forever, so this is great for me. I’m gonna give it a few weeks and see how I like it. The only big difference is that I have to dial my own google number to get access to my voicemails now…instead of just going to the voicemails section on my iphone. Not a big deal though.

Here’s a pretty cool little video:

So, the McClellan Oscillator closed at -221.74 yesterday, which means that we’re in oversold territory. I don’t want to believe that we’re gonna pause here, but I can’t fight the indicator. At best, we will pause for the next few days, then continue the decline after the MO goes back up a little bit. At worst, we’re gonna short term bottom here and go back up to retest those highs. I am all short now, and have decent gains on my positions.

I have a strong urge to sell and take profits here today, but I’m usually wrong with my timing, so I’m gonna hold tight instead. Fake right, go left. That’s what I’m doing today. It’s like in sportsbetting, if I just take the opposite of what I really want to do, then I’d be a winner, all day.

My positions were meant to be swing trades, so I still like the downside over the next few weeks to few months. I may be wrong, but I gotta go with everything that I see and feel. It’s too easy to take profits here. Way too easy, which means that it’s probably wrong.

Having some problems with my audio and windows 7…trying to fix it now…looks like it’s a known problem with the IDT High Def Audio drivers…

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=win7Beta&message.id=2888

Still haven’t noticed any difference between win7 and Vista yet…not sure if it was worth it to upgrade…

So, before I went to the golf tourney yesterday, I put in an order to sell all 100 shares of AMZN at $111.28. It triggered pretty early in the morning, so I’m out of all of my AMZN for about +$2.8k. I guess it’s a lot easier to make money when the market is going up? I feel like I’ve been on the sidelines a lot of this year, but I guess I’m really picking and choosing my spots a little more.

I tallied up my accounts and here are the results so far:

+$5,381.71

+$7,201.13

+$1,027.60

-$1,865.26

-$126.56

Total is +$11,618.62 YTD. I think my biggest losing trade was that natural gas futures trade, which I made back from the natural gas ETF trade. My biggest winner was this AMZN trade that I just got out of. The year is not over yet though. I have a feeling that I’m not gonna get what I want from my current short positions, so I’m gonna keep a close eye on them and take profits when I get the opportunity to cash in.

Oh yeah, I added 200 shares of IBKR on Friday at $17. I’ll go all the way up to the thousand shares. Planning on holding for the “longer term” because I do think IB is one of the better discount brokerages out there.

Here’s a good read from an interview with Mark Zuckerberg:

Startup School: An Interview With Mark Zuckerberg

It’s nice to read about this guy who owns the largest social networking site on the planet, and how he got started. Like any business, he just did it…and Facebook is…well, Facebook, now…worth billions of dollars. That’s usually how businesses start. That’s how I started my business.

Waiting for UFC 104 to start. I think I’m gonna order it for $44.99. The card is not that great, but damn, I wanna watch the Lyoto fight….

Anyways, it took about 5 hours to install. I think it was mainly due to the hundreds of thousands of emails that I have on my computer. Apparently, Windows Live Mail stores all emails in separate .eml files these days. With Outlook Express, they stored it in one database file per folder. I also have about 50-60 gigs of mp3s.

The install process was pretty straight forward. I was upgrading from Vista Home Premium 32-bit. After Windows 7 finished installing, pretty much the only thing that didn’t work was my sound, but I went to the HP website and downloaded the audio codecs and was back in business within 15 minutes.

So far, so good. All of my apps are running fine. No problems with any other hardware. Everything seems to be golden. So, what’s new in Windows 7 anyways? I haven’t found much of a change…hah. Runs just like Vista…

“4:21PM Interactive Brokers misses by $0.11, misses on revs (IBKR) 19.56 -0.40 : Reports Q3 (Sep) earnings of $0.20 per share, $0.11 worse than the First Call consensus of $0.31; revenues fell 45.3% year/year to $272 mln vs the $297.6 mln consensus. Market Making segment income before income taxes decreased 47% in the quarter ended September 30, 2009 compared to the prior quarter and decreased 74% from the same period last year. Pre-tax margin was 49% in this quarter, down from 79% in the same period last year. Compared to last year, 2009 presented a less favorable environment for market makers due to tighter bid/offer spreads on option exchanges. We managed our risk by continuing to avoid counterparty risks and balance sheet exposure from illiquid positions by making markets primarily in exchange traded products that are cleared through central clearing houses. Market Making options contract volume remained flat during this quarter compared to the same period last year. Electronic Brokerage segment income before income taxes decreased 3% in the quarter ended September 30, 2009 compared to the same period in 2008 and was roughly flat to the prior quarter. “Ever increasing competition in the transparent, exchange listed derivatives markets continued to pressure spreads to never before seen levels in the third quarter… These ultra low transaction costs in exchange listed products will inevitably be followed by higher trading volumes and better customer performance.”

Definitely not good numbers, for sure. I got out a few days ago at $20.70. Good thing because it traded near $18 in after hours. I was looking to get back in sub-$18. I will probably add a few shares tomorrow, as I still like the company, despite the earnings disagreeing with my stance. Maybe 200-250 shares sub-$18, then I’ll just scale in the rest.

On a good note, AMZN blew away numbers. Beat estimates by 12 cents per share and guided upwards for the 4th quarter. Apparently, the Kindle has made a ton of milestones becoming their best selling item. If there’s one thing that I don’t like about Amazon, it’s their Kindle. I don’t have one. I don’t plan on owning one. Nor will I ever pay $250 for one of those damn things. Why would I want to pay $250 for a Kindle, when I can buy a netbook for the same amount and do a million other things with it? Don’t get me wrong, I buy everything from Amazon, but if they focus all of their attention on the Kindle, then I think it will ultimately hurt them. In a very short time, there will be a million e-book reader clones out there. They are trying to mimic the iPhone, but the problem with the Kindle/e-book model is that e-books can be made available to other vendors as well. iPhone Apps are unique only to the iPhone. that’s where the two models differ. And I would say that difference is HUGE.

I have 100 shares of AMZN from $82.99. I won’t be greedy on this one. I have a nice gain already. I’m probably going to dump out tomorrow morning. We’ll see. If I sell out of it, I will be completely short…which is not what I really want. I need some protection…

Here’s a nice read:

Sean Parker: Twitter/Facebook Will Soon Dominate The Web — Not Google.

Sean Parker, one of the cofounders of Facebook thinks that social networking sites will dominate the future of the web, and not Google. Hard to imagine, but it makes you wonder.

Alright…let’s see what tomorrow brings.
