http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNb2-ZB5Vhw

The WSOP main event final table starts at noon tomorrow. Bluff Magazine will have live audio of the final table starting at 3pm. It seems as though there’s been a lot of confusion in terms of dates because when I google “WSOP ESPN”, some sites say that the final table starts on the 9th, some say 10th, and I still can’t find exactly when the final table will be aired on ESPN. Pretty stupid if you ask me. They should’ve set the schedule a long time ago.

Alright, so it looks like they start on Saturday at noon, then the final two go back on Monday night at 10pm to finish the tourney. Then, on Tuesday at 9PM, the final table will air on ESPN.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4622909&name=poker

I’ve been watching the last few episodes of the WSOP on ESPN and this guy Darvin Moon seems like dead money to me. I think his lack of poker odds knowledge will eventually catch up to him. In one hand, he cold called 1.4 million chips with pocket Tens after a raise and reraise. Phil Ivey has a 1 to 6 chip deficit to Moon, so it’ll be hard for him to make a move without gambling a little bit. Jeff Schulman is a skilled veteran too, so I don’t think that he’ll be giving up his chips easily. From what I’ve seen though, he’s played pretty standard ABC poker, more to the tight side than not. Anyways…it’ll be interesting to see who takes away the multi-million dollar first prize.

So…I’m still holding onto my longs. I added 100 AMZN at $118.60 and 150 IWM at $58.01. I really feel as though I should take profits here, which means that we’re probably going higher, so I’m gonna sit tight. I think my buddy is still 30% long here, waiting to add if we dip lower. I will be quick to take profits if we continue higher over the next two weeks. I really want to end the year on a positive note, so I’ll sit out if I have to. Protect thy profits until the end of the year…that’s how I’ll be playing it.

Alright, gotta go. Don’t sleep on Fedor vs. Brett Rogers tomorrow night.

Damn, I wish Rampage would come back to fight Rashad. I’d love to see him beat the F out of Rashad. Rashad is one of those people that would rub me the wrong way as well. He is a straight up boogster.

Netvibes is my primary RSS reader. I think it’s the best out there. It’s also my default site when I open up Firefox. Anyways, it looks like they’re coming out with a real-time feed thing called Wasabi. It sounds interesting. My guess is that it’ll be similar to Google Wave/Twitter/Facebook live feed. Seems like the all the big guys are going into “real-time” info…how do I grab a chunk of that change?

Anybody else gonna get this?

The Godfather of Poker: The Doyle Brunson Story

Doyle’s been talking about it on his blog. He said that he’s reluctant to release it, which means that there’ll probably be some juicy stuff in there. I’m gonna get it. I’d like to read about those stories of him playing high stakes poker back in the mob days.

So, I dumped out of all of my short positions yesterday. All in all, I think I made about $3k total. BBY, SBUX, QID, DXD, TWM…everything. After getting that email from my trading buddy, I went long these:

200 DIA at $97.68

250 QQQQ at $41.47

100 IWM at $56.83

Nothing big, just something to get me in the game. The McClellan oscillator closed at -350 yesterday. That is sick. Definitely an oversold extreme. I don’t have an exit plan yet, but I’m just gonna let it go and see what happens. Eventually, I will get back into my long AMZN/short BBY pair trade. I will also get back into my SBUX short. And I will continue to add IBKR every 10% lower. On top of this, VCLK is coming back down to my buy zone. I may add some shares today, since we dropped over 20% in the past two days due to an earnings shortfall. I like the stock and will be adding to my longer term portfolio. I’m looking at 1000-1500 shares. As a matter of fact, I just bought 300 shares at $9.7.

I’m not gonna go too crazy on the long side here. Just gonna start accumulating some stocks that I like for my longer term portfolio. In the next 6-12 months, I am expecting lower prices, so that’s how I will be positioning myself. More weighted to the short side than the long side. With some pair trades to hedge my short bets.

Google Voice can now manage your cellphone’s voicemail (video)

So, I switched mine over this morning. With the switch, all voicemails are transcribed and sent to me via text message. Also, all voicemails will be stored in my Google Voice account, even if I were to switch carriers in the future. Pretty cool stuff. I like keeping all of my data forever, so this is great for me. I’m gonna give it a few weeks and see how I like it. The only big difference is that I have to dial my own google number to get access to my voicemails now…instead of just going to the voicemails section on my iphone. Not a big deal though.

Here’s a pretty cool little video:

So, the McClellan Oscillator closed at -221.74 yesterday, which means that we’re in oversold territory. I don’t want to believe that we’re gonna pause here, but I can’t fight the indicator. At best, we will pause for the next few days, then continue the decline after the MO goes back up a little bit. At worst, we’re gonna short term bottom here and go back up to retest those highs. I am all short now, and have decent gains on my positions.

I have a strong urge to sell and take profits here today, but I’m usually wrong with my timing, so I’m gonna hold tight instead. Fake right, go left. That’s what I’m doing today. It’s like in sportsbetting, if I just take the opposite of what I really want to do, then I’d be a winner, all day.

My positions were meant to be swing trades, so I still like the downside over the next few weeks to few months. I may be wrong, but I gotta go with everything that I see and feel. It’s too easy to take profits here. Way too easy, which means that it’s probably wrong.

Having some problems with my audio and windows 7…trying to fix it now…looks like it’s a known problem with the IDT High Def Audio drivers…

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=win7Beta&message.id=2888

Still haven’t noticed any difference between win7 and Vista yet…not sure if it was worth it to upgrade…

So, before I went to the golf tourney yesterday, I put in an order to sell all 100 shares of AMZN at $111.28. It triggered pretty early in the morning, so I’m out of all of my AMZN for about +$2.8k. I guess it’s a lot easier to make money when the market is going up? I feel like I’ve been on the sidelines a lot of this year, but I guess I’m really picking and choosing my spots a little more.

I tallied up my accounts and here are the results so far:

+$5,381.71

+$7,201.13

+$1,027.60

-$1,865.26

-$126.56

Total is +$11,618.62 YTD. I think my biggest losing trade was that natural gas futures trade, which I made back from the natural gas ETF trade. My biggest winner was this AMZN trade that I just got out of. The year is not over yet though. I have a feeling that I’m not gonna get what I want from my current short positions, so I’m gonna keep a close eye on them and take profits when I get the opportunity to cash in.

Oh yeah, I added 200 shares of IBKR on Friday at $17. I’ll go all the way up to the thousand shares. Planning on holding for the “longer term” because I do think IB is one of the better discount brokerages out there.

Here’s a good read from an interview with Mark Zuckerberg:

Startup School: An Interview With Mark Zuckerberg

It’s nice to read about this guy who owns the largest social networking site on the planet, and how he got started. Like any business, he just did it…and Facebook is…well, Facebook, now…worth billions of dollars. That’s usually how businesses start. That’s how I started my business.

Waiting for UFC 104 to start. I think I’m gonna order it for $44.99. The card is not that great, but damn, I wanna watch the Lyoto fight….

Anyways, it took about 5 hours to install. I think it was mainly due to the hundreds of thousands of emails that I have on my computer. Apparently, Windows Live Mail stores all emails in separate .eml files these days. With Outlook Express, they stored it in one database file per folder. I also have about 50-60 gigs of mp3s.

The install process was pretty straight forward. I was upgrading from Vista Home Premium 32-bit. After Windows 7 finished installing, pretty much the only thing that didn’t work was my sound, but I went to the HP website and downloaded the audio codecs and was back in business within 15 minutes.

So far, so good. All of my apps are running fine. No problems with any other hardware. Everything seems to be golden. So, what’s new in Windows 7 anyways? I haven’t found much of a change…hah. Runs just like Vista…

“4:21PM Interactive Brokers misses by $0.11, misses on revs (IBKR) 19.56 -0.40 : Reports Q3 (Sep) earnings of $0.20 per share, $0.11 worse than the First Call consensus of $0.31; revenues fell 45.3% year/year to $272 mln vs the $297.6 mln consensus. Market Making segment income before income taxes decreased 47% in the quarter ended September 30, 2009 compared to the prior quarter and decreased 74% from the same period last year. Pre-tax margin was 49% in this quarter, down from 79% in the same period last year. Compared to last year, 2009 presented a less favorable environment for market makers due to tighter bid/offer spreads on option exchanges. We managed our risk by continuing to avoid counterparty risks and balance sheet exposure from illiquid positions by making markets primarily in exchange traded products that are cleared through central clearing houses. Market Making options contract volume remained flat during this quarter compared to the same period last year. Electronic Brokerage segment income before income taxes decreased 3% in the quarter ended September 30, 2009 compared to the same period in 2008 and was roughly flat to the prior quarter. “Ever increasing competition in the transparent, exchange listed derivatives markets continued to pressure spreads to never before seen levels in the third quarter… These ultra low transaction costs in exchange listed products will inevitably be followed by higher trading volumes and better customer performance.”

Definitely not good numbers, for sure. I got out a few days ago at $20.70. Good thing because it traded near $18 in after hours. I was looking to get back in sub-$18. I will probably add a few shares tomorrow, as I still like the company, despite the earnings disagreeing with my stance. Maybe 200-250 shares sub-$18, then I’ll just scale in the rest.

On a good note, AMZN blew away numbers. Beat estimates by 12 cents per share and guided upwards for the 4th quarter. Apparently, the Kindle has made a ton of milestones becoming their best selling item. If there’s one thing that I don’t like about Amazon, it’s their Kindle. I don’t have one. I don’t plan on owning one. Nor will I ever pay $250 for one of those damn things. Why would I want to pay $250 for a Kindle, when I can buy a netbook for the same amount and do a million other things with it? Don’t get me wrong, I buy everything from Amazon, but if they focus all of their attention on the Kindle, then I think it will ultimately hurt them. In a very short time, there will be a million e-book reader clones out there. They are trying to mimic the iPhone, but the problem with the Kindle/e-book model is that e-books can be made available to other vendors as well. iPhone Apps are unique only to the iPhone. that’s where the two models differ. And I would say that difference is HUGE.

I have 100 shares of AMZN from $82.99. I won’t be greedy on this one. I have a nice gain already. I’m probably going to dump out tomorrow morning. We’ll see. If I sell out of it, I will be completely short…which is not what I really want. I need some protection…

Here’s a nice read:

Sean Parker: Twitter/Facebook Will Soon Dominate The Web — Not Google.

Sean Parker, one of the cofounders of Facebook thinks that social networking sites will dominate the future of the web, and not Google. Hard to imagine, but it makes you wonder.

Alright…let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Now, I’m holding:

500 DXD at $32.37

750 TWM at $28.50

750 QID at $22.99

-500 BBY at $37.65

-750 SBUX at $20.49

100 AMZN at $82.99

I’m only long one stock, which may not be the best idea, but I’m picking a side here. I don’t have any plans to buy anything else as a hedge against my shorts. Just gonna let it go and see what happens.

Here’s what my trading buddy had to say last week after he sold out of his long position:

“Funds managers under invest so they want to put money to work but stocks are expensive now if SP is able to earn $60 per share Q1 next year. With 20 multiple, I think it may do 1200 in next 2 –3 months but may heading to a shadow pullback in next few weeks as manager funds try to push down the stock to take a ride until year-end.”

I had to read that a few times myself. I’m not quite sure how he knows what the “funds managers” are doing. Maybe he reads Barrons or something. Hah.

Alright…on to more important matters. Time for some golf. Beautiful day outside today. Might be the last of them with the Cold coming soon.

For bigger movies that I may perhaps want to watch a little bit later, I can just copy them wirelessly to my 1TB NAS to stream later. I’m finally putting this 1TB NAS to work. It’s been sitting there for months, pretty much unused. For $99 at Amazon, this Asus is everything that I’ve wanted. Now, if I can only get the remote control codes to work with my Logitech Harmony remote, then I’m all set.

As for me, I am still sitting on my positions. I dumped out of all of my long IBKR for +$2.1.k or something like that. I’ve been holding 500 shares for a while now, at a price of $16.40. 25% gain. I’m gonna look to get back in sub-$18.

I just sold half of my AMZN long for about +$615. The other half, I am holding from $82.99, so I’m up about $1500 on that puppy.

Still holding my TWM and QID shorts here. 500 of each. I just added 250 shares to each, giving me a total of 750 shares a pop. Definitely losing on these positions, but they’re not too bad. -$800 on one and -$1500 on the other, so far.

Yeah, it’s usually a zero sum game when you’re hedged. Still holding BBY and SBUX shorts. SBUX has actually been sitting pretty tight despite this recent runup, which tells me that if the market falls…SBUX should be one of the first to go. I like this for the “longer run” anyways, so I’m gonna try to hold for a little bit. Same with my BBY short.

That’s really about it for now. I am net short now, and not quite sure how I feel about that. The McClellan Oscillator definitely formed a bearish divergence, so there’s no doubt in my mind that we’re nearing a turning point here. The MO doesn’t lie. It just doesn’t. This is an intermediate term trend change, so we’re looking at 1-2 months minimum.

Prices are going higher, but MO is making a lower high. It just doesn’t add up. We’ll see. Gotta stick to my plan though. Just don’t overextend myself, just in case I’m wrong.

So, I’m thinking about buying this Asus O!Play HD TV Media Player:

It’s very similar to my Western Digital Media Player, but the main difference is that it has a RJ45 jack in the back for gigabit ethernet. I’ve always hated copying the big files to my USB flash drive and bringing it to my WD media player, so this will alleviate this problem. I’m a lazy bastard. That and I like to get the latest technology. It’s only $99 anyways. No loss either way. It’s gotten some pretty good reviews so far.

Time to peace out. US vs. Costa Rica tonight. Don’t sleep, even though the game is meaningless. Wish I were going, but I am not…DAGGER.

Let me tell you, their instant coffee was very noticeably different. As a daily coffee drinker, it was a pretty obvious choice which cup contained the brewed cup. I will also say that no regular coffee drinker will switch over to their new and possibly more profitable instant coffee line. Especially since they were selling the stupid packets for a buck a pop. Three packets for $2.95 and 12 packets for $9.95. That’s a show. Short SBUX son.

Just got a call from one of my non-stock trading random buddies asking me what he thought he should be buying here. I told him what I was doing, asked him what his time frame was, and how much capital he had. Then, I told him that the “smart guys” were buying here until the end of the year, then sometime early next year, they were expecting a more substantial decline in the markets. I also told him that I was somewhat hedged with some pair trades, told him the stocks that I was in, and gave him some ideas on what to do with his money. I told him that if he thought the market was going higher from here, then just play some index ETFs like SPY, DIA, QQQQ, etc. He wanted something a little more risky, and asked me what I thought about GE. I don’t watch GE, so I had no advice for him there.

Anyways, what I’m getting at is, randoms are starting to get on the bandwagon again. Last time this happened, it was not the end of the surge, but definitely nearing the end. I think this reinforces the idea of the “smart guys” in saying that the market will probably go higher into the end of the year, but most likely, we are nearing the end of the surge. Then again, I feel as though I have been saying this for weeks now.

Shark Tank. Anybody watch this show? It’s on Tuesdays on ABC. New startup companies get on this show to try to solicit money from 5 successful, somewhat famous, self-made multi-millionaires. These business owners are usually just getting started with their business and need some capital to push their product to a new level. Usually, the new business owners ask for somewhere in between $50k to $500k in funds in exchange for a small percentage of their business. Some of the business owners are already successful with their business, while others are on the show just for the stupidity of their offers. I don’t know…it’s a pretty cool show. Some of the these guys have some really great ideas and others, not so much. And of course, the show’s 5 hosts seems like they’re always trying to get an edge on their deals. I guess they didn’t get to where they’re at by giving money away…

So, I emailed my trading buddy this morning…here’s what he had to say:

“I think we will have 5-7% down on Oct but that’s all. At this point, I don’t see any big correction until early next year. I am going to go long for 40% in next hour.”

Then, he added:

“I would like to see it holds 1042. That will give the base to run for 1130. “

By “it”, he means the S&P. I am obviously weighted to the downside at the moment. I did “cover” some positions this morning. Dumped my SRS, FXP, DXD and covered my short currency positions. Also, I added a few positions:

Long 100 AMZN @ $91.47

Long 570 SE at $18.82

Now, I’m holding the following:

500 IBKR @ $16.40

100 AMZN @ $82.99

100 AMZN @ $91.47

570 SE @ $18.82

-500 BBY @ $37.65

-500 SBUX @ $20.44

500 TWM @ $29.45

500 QID @ $23.51

10,000 SIBE at $0.3765

That’s about all for now. I’m gonna try to tally up my profits and losses for the year so far. I’ve been slacking on that. I think I may be down a little bit, but I’m not sure. I’ve been kinda slacking on that lately.

Time for a little golf. I won’t be doing anything more today with my positions. Let’s see if we hold this 1040 level today, then I’ll decide on what to do next.

I added 500 shares of DXD yesterday at the close. I am obviously biased towards the downside, which doesn’t look like it’s going to come. Maybe we’ll end the year with another surge. I think I may add some longs tomorrow, which doesn’t seem like a great idea to me now, but I think I need to protect myself a little bit. The good news is that my two longs are actually doing good…AMZN and IBKR. So, I guess buying good names and hedging with my short term bearish stance may work…

Kimbo vs. Roy Nelson tonight. Can’t wait for that fight.

Newegg had $2.1 Billion in sales last year, but do you know what their profit margins were? 1.4%. Holy crap. I didn’t realize that companies with profit margins so low could survive.

What shocked me even more was Amazon’s 3.3% profit margin. Amazon usually has the best prices, very comparable to Newegg’s prices. Since I’m an affiliate of both companies, I know that Amazon has one of the best commission deals out there. They go up to about 8% on normal electronics purchases. Up to 20% on special items. From what I can remember, Newegg only offers 1 – 1.5% of sales to affiliates. I know that Amazon does not partner with cashback sites like Bing or Fatwallet or whatever, but Newegg definitely partners with these cash back sites.

What I’m getting at is, I am short 500 shares of Best Buy. I’m trying to justify my position by showing how low the profit margins of these online electronics retailers are. If Newegg is at 1.4% profit margin, and Amazon is at 3.3%, then I really don’t understand how Best Buy can compete with these guys, especially when their operating margins are probably much higher. I know that Best Buy marks up their prices due to the increase in operating margins, and I’m sure that their customer base is probably a little bit different than the online shoppers, but still, in my opinion, shoppers always gravitate towards lower prices. I haven’t bought anything from Best Buy in a long ass time. Not even a DVD. And especially not a LCD TV or something as expensive as that.

So, I think the verdict is still up in the air at the moment, as far as the market going higher or lower from here. The “good guys” that I follow are raising cash here, still net long, but definitely not going short. They are waiting for the next dip to buy, which may or may not come. The “bad guys” are as excited about the markets as ever, waiting patiently to “get some more”. Waiting to buy here after almost triple digit gains from the lows in a lot of stocks. Due to the bearish divergence in the McClellan Oscillator, I am expecting a near term pullback from here. No clue how long it will last, but from past history, it won’t be a quickie. I am still long a couple of names (AMZN & IBKR), but net short with GBP, EUR (currencies), TWM, QID, BBY, SBUX and I just added two oldies, but goodies today: FXP and SRS, 500 shares a piece. IF the market is going lower, I suspect that these battered names will surge higher, especially if there is panic. IF the market looks to get stronger from here, then I will just add to some of my longs. I’m looking at 7-Eleven (SE) and Apple (AAPL).

I hope that the market goes lower from here, but who knows, the market always seems to f*ck with peoples minds, including mine. Some people seem to have that sense of patience. I don’t. I’ve been holding onto this currency trade for a few months now and I’m only down a few hundos on the trade, but I am losing patience. It makes it a little easier when I am out playing golf and not watching the markets, but when I am sitting here watching, all I want to do is to tinker with my positions. Anyways, I’m gonna give my positions a little bit of space and time here, as I always seems to do better when time is on my side.

Kimbo vs. Roy Nelson on Spike TV tomorrow night. This has got to be the most hyped TUF fight ever. In a still picture which someone took from the promo video, Kimbo lands a straight punch right to Roy Nelson’s jaw, so who knows…maybe Kimbo makes more than just a “mean steak” on TUF.

Two female poker players on The Amazing Race this season. Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle. I don’t normally watch this show, but I’m drawn to it now just because I want to see what these two “poker players” are all about. Same with Dancing With the Stars. My boy, Chuck Liddell, is on it, so the show is on my tivo. Kinda silly, but I can’t help, but watch.

Champion’s League games on today. I want to see the Barca game, but it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be on TV. I’m gonna have to hit up Channelsurfing.net to see if I can get it streaming to my comp.

Army Ten-Miler this coming Sunday. It’ll be my second time running it. I’m definitely not as prepared as I was last year, but I think I’ll be okay. I ran 8.5 miles on Sunday and I was HURT-ING. As a matter of fact, at mile 6, I was running along a path parallel to the potomac and a little kid, no more than 5 years old, was waiting for me to come up next to him, so that he could “race me”. I didn’t realize what he was doing at first, but as soon as I got next to him, he sped off to his dad, who was waiting by a bench about 50 yards down. I couldn’t catch him because I was really HURT-ING. I couldn’t catch a 5 year old kid. What a show. Next time, I will just trip him up and call it a game.

Last year, I ran a 7:57/mile. I think I’m just gonna try to finish it this year with an easy pace, but knowing myself, I’m probably gonna push myself as hard as I can. Unfortunately, I don’t know if my body will do what my brain wants it to do, so we’ll see. I’ll be very content with an 8:30/mile pace. Strugglin. I just created my playlist for the run:

O.A.R. – Toy Store

Iron & Wine – Love Vigilantes

Pink – Please Don’t Leave Me

One Republic – Come Home

Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye

Weezer – Say It Ain’t So

Jason Mraz – I’m Yours

Joshua Radin – Brand New Day

O.A.R. – About an Hour Ago

Coldplay – viva La Vida

Crred – One Last Breath

Survivor – Eye of the tiger

Big Audio Dynamite – The Globe

I know, some of these picks are little bit suspect, e.g. Pink, but I swear, I do not like men. At least I didn’t put any Taylor Swift on my playlist. I just need some music to keep my mind off of the running. You’re not even supposed to bring a music device with you, but so many people brought ipods last year, I’m saying F IT. It sucks running without music. All good, it’s ONLY 10 miles.
