Information about the press:	Modern Bard wants to publish original works of fantasy. We read every submission carefully so we’ll know what potential each work has (rather than just checking if it’s easily marketable). We syndicate the content online, then sell printed copies, eBook copies, and audiobook copies of the work once it’s run has ended.
What type of submissions you are looking for:	At Modern Bard, we’re looking for fantasy stories with an original setting. (If your work is heavily drawing on Lord of the Rings or any table top RPG, it’s probably not what we’re looking for) Modern Bard is currently seeking fantasy that keeps intact the escapist feel everyone loves from the genre, but has a dark, gritty, and realistic feel. Our audience lies mostly between the ages of 17 and 30, but we won’t accept work that doesn’t handle it’s adult themes or situations tastefully (So as to avoid traumatizing any younger teenage readers). Religious themes are acceptable, so long as neither the religious or non-religious are portrayed as evil or close minded. We’re accepting short stories (nothing over 10k words), novellas (approximately 30k-50k words), and novels (between 80k and 125k words).
Information on Suggestions on Submitting:	Query First. Email us with a SHORT description of your fantasy story, and briefly explain your world’s setting and magic system. Attach an RTF file of the beginning of your book (no longer than 3k words. An ideal length is around 1k, however). If we are interested in your work, we’ll ask you to submit the completed manuscript for evaluation. Do NOT submit us a query email about an unfinished work.
