My Thoughts:

Everything Victoria Schwab writes turns into gold. I enjoyed A Darker Shade of Magic so I have high expectations for this one.

The story continues when Kell and Delilah parted after the debacle. Delilah ventured out and enjoyed her freedom; while Kell stayed with Rhy and continued his duties in the Royal Palace. Despite their heroic effort to save Red London, another darkness brews. Friendship will be tested. Will Kell and Delilah be able to save Red London the second time around?

The world-building is incredible! It will feel like you’re transported into a new world. I love how she intertwines the story like magic. Not only that her writing style is my cup of tea, every scene is like a gem. You will never get bored.

The character-building is amazing. There’s maturity among the protagonists which I like. You also get to see the story from different perspectives without giving away their true motives; it gives the story a sharp edge. There are new characters as well which makes everything stimulating. Book two will give light about who the main characters are. You will get to know them deeply which leads to attachments from the readers.

Delilah Bard is my favorite among the bunch. She’s free spirited and kick-ass. I love her personality. She’s not like any other heroines. She’s stubborn and unpredictable but in a good way.

As for the love-angle. Book one gave hints but it’s more on friendship. Now, book two will give you the real deal! Prepare for steamy scenes and shocking revelations.

Overall, Gathering of Shadows is another masterpiece from Victoria. Sarah J. Maas fans will enjoy this series. Action and Romance lovers will also love A Gathering of Shadows.

When will the registration be?
Daily registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Each guest will be asked to fill out the registration form upon arrival and will be given a festival ID/ pass which can be used for all the events in The Philippine Readers and Writers Festival from August 26 to 28. Venue capacities for each event are limited. Seats are on a first come, first served basis.

In earlier drafts, there was a lot of knitting imagery: knots, tangled wool, unraveling and recreating. After a while, it became too obvious and all the in-your-face metaphors were deleted. But here’s Cat trying to explain the most disturbing aspects of her situation via yarn.

If it helps, I see where I went wrong.

If I’d thought things through better, there might have been a different outcome. I might be a better person. Everybody might be singing show tunes in the shower.

But we’re stuck with what happened, all the twists and complications.

It’s like a basketful of tangled yarn from a sweater you had to unravel because you knit knots into it by mistake. But if you take that strand of yarn between your fingers, you can follow it all the way down to the place where it stops.

My Thoughts:

I’ve been a huge fan of Cassandra Clare for such a long time. And read her books from front to back. I always thought, what if she ventures out from the Nephilim series? She’s an amazing storyteller and can write any kinds of genre. After reading Lady Midnight, I was happy that she didn’t ventured away from her Angel series. This book is holy amazing!

The story started after the Great War where Cold Peace was established. Rules where bequeathed where Nephilim, Underworlders and Faes are forbidden to associate with one another.

The world-building is superb. It is intricate and easy to get lost into. Also, her writing style is what made me like her more. It’s simple and you get to see the story from different perspectives. I also love how she manages to create cliff-hangers in the end (So Cassandra). Now, I am impatiently waiting for the next book.

The character-building is also good. You get to see the characters growth/maturity throughout the book. You also get to see the story from different angles/perspective without giving away the twists. There are also many characters from the old series that will resurface every now and then.

As for the romance, it is well thought of. I thought it was predictable. But in the end, it’s actually one of those heart wrenching twisted moments –sigh- I don’t know why it was so cruel yet so good?

Overall, Lady Midnight is an amazing read. Loyal fans of Cassandra Clare won’t be disappointed.

My Thoughts:

I can explain this book in one word- BRILLIANT! This is actually my first book from Victoria and this won’t be the last.

Kell is one of the last of his kind that can weave magic through different dimensions. He is a traveler. The one who travels from one parallel world to another, but with that kind of power has its consequences. A sinister Kingdom wants something from him, and that something is far more evil than that Kingdom. Can Kell be able to evade the danger that lurks in every turn? Will he able to save all Kingdoms from the dark magic that consumes him as well? You really have to pick up this book to find out more.

The world-building is phenomenal. Victoria did an amazing job in making the readers comprehend the world she is making us to believe in. I find it easy to entwine myself into the story. Every pages and every turn is a spectacle. Truly, this woman writes well like she has magic herself. I sometimes comment great books as slow but entertaining. But this book is quick and engaging. I want more!

As for the character-building, it was hard for me to choose between Lila and Kell. I would say Lila is my favorite (After 5 minutes of thinking straight). Maybe because I was able to connect with her; she is human after all. She might be weak physically but her will is way stronger than Kell’s. Her thirst for adventure and lack of fear made her appealing. Kell on the other hand is the opposite of Lila. He is physically strong and powerful but not fearless. I would say they complement one another.

As for the love-angle, this book has little of it. But as I reader, I think there would be something between them soon. It may not be in this book but I am hoping it will be on the next one.

Overall, this book is well worth your reading time! Fantasy lovers would enjoy this too. If you are looking for an adventure with heart-pounding action then buy your copy now.

My Thoughts:

The final book of the trilogy, The last ever after continues where book 2 has left where Agatha and Tedros were whisked away to Gavaldon, while Sophie and the School Master were left behind in the woods. I'll take this opportunity to gush out on how awesome and glorious this book was! And it took me 9 hours straight to finish it (minus the toilet breaks!) The last ever after has sent me to an emotional roller coaster ride that after I finished, I actually felt quite exhausted from using up so much emotions in one day. But seriously, I LOVED THIS BOOK (even though it's aimed for middlegrade readers and I'm probably already too old for this. But I don't care!) Soman Chainani did a good job at magnifying the awesomeness of the series to the highest possible level. He definitely "Ended it with a BANG!" Unlike the first two books, there's more action, suspense, drama, angst, mystery, comedy and romance in this one. Yay! Sophie, while being the antagonist (and also the protagonist) of the story, you can't help but not hate her for her decisions and the things she did. You can actually relate with her inner struggles where she tries to prove that she's really good. That she only wanted a happy ending, just like her bestfriend, Agatha. And she found it in our very handsome and drool-worthy school master (who was described as someone who looks like Jack Frost, and who doesn't love him?!) Rafal (aka the School master), who is considered the master of evil in the story, is actually very human who only wanted to find love. His Never After. I find myself hating Sophie in some parts of the story, but at the same time, I'm also rooting for her so she can find her happy ending. Agatha has been my favorite character since the first book because of her strong and witty character, but in this one, she seemed weaker, probably because she spent most of the time questioning her self-worth and drowning with self esteem issues. Well, I can understand her, considering that her boyfriend, Tedros, is the most sought after prince and soon-to-be king of Camelot. I think it's pretty normal for her to feel inferior because of it considering that she has never thought of herself as a special girl. You'll see how much she struggles through this, but you'll also see her grow as she overcomes her fears. I've always been a fan of Tedros' and Agatha's love team that's why I'm super happy that they have more intimate moments in this book, sweet enough to have ants crawling all over me as I read. You'll see their struggles as a couple, and how they fight (which was very interesting to read!), and always make up in the end. As for the other minor characters, they were also given their own spotlights and you can't help but love them more. (With Cinderella being my favorite.) All their witty dialogues and snide remarks were really amusing, especially the fairytale puns. Oh! And the twists! I definitely didn't see them coming. Although I was able to predict some, the twist was just as surprising (like how it's supposed to be.) I'll stop now before I give too much away about the story. *winks* Overall, Soman Chainani did an excellent job weaving the perfect ending for an awesome trilogy. I'm gonna miss the school for good and evil and all the wonderful characters. Now that it's finished, I feel like there's a hollow emptiness inside of me. *cries* Because of this trilogy, Mr. Chainani has already made it on the top of my favorite author's list, and I'm definitely looking forward for more works from him. I give this 5 whales. Hands down.
