BNC TV - Interviews with Industry Innovators

The book industry is at a stage of rapid evolution and here at BNC, we're intrigued by the innovators who are finding ways to take challenges and turn them into opportunities. We want to know what shapes their decisions, what they think is most important now and where they see the industry headed.

Because we didn't think we would be the only ones interested, we've created BNC TV - Interviews with Industry Innovators. Our first interview is with Neelan Choksi of Lexcycle, the creators of Stanza.

With a number of publishers announcing plans to eliminate paper catalogues, it's a great time to look at creating an online system that works for the Canadian book market.

BNC Catalogue 2.0 is a BookNet Canada project that will allow publishers to create catalogues that are interactive and information-rich while providing booksellers and libraries with the means to make direct buys.

We are currently in the requirements gathering stage. If you are a member of the Canadian supply chain and you want to be involved, please contact us at catalogues@booknetcanada.ca

979 ISBNs Assigned in France

From the Book Industry Study Group

The first 979-prefixed ISBN registration group element, 979-10, has been assigned to the Paris-based French National ISBN Agency, AFNIL, according to a special announcement today by the International ISBN Agency. The global book industry is encouraged to pay attention to this news: it will lead to the appearance of the first 979-prefix ISBNs in the international book supply chain.

Commenting on the announcement, Michael Healy, Executive Director of the Book Industry Study Group and the former Chairman of the ISO working group that revised the ISBN standard, said, “This is an important announcement for the U.S. book trade. Any systems remaining in the U.S. book trade that process only the last ten digits of an ISBN will have to be updated to avoid the possibility of duplicates of 978 and 979-prefixed ISBNs appearing in our supply chain.”

For more information, please email us at biblio@booknetcanada.ca
