How well do we ever really know our spouses? Dani finds herself face-to-face with this question when her husband Ian disappears without a trace from their houseboat in Seattle. One moment he’s there, and the next he’s gone. No note. No explanation. No clue as to whether he’s dead or alive. Panic and disbelief soon give way to grief-either he’s been the victim of foul play (which is what the police assume) or he’s determined not to be found. But Dani won’t rest until she learns what happened to him. Her quest will dredge up dark memories from the past, and will force her to confront unpleasant truths about her relationship with Ian.

A very silly (not-too-scary) story about losing a beloved toy.

That summer night, the toys were left outside… . For the very first time, the Wonderdoll, the helpful wind-up robot, the thoughtful green dinosaur, and the rest of their plucky gang lie in the grass, gazing up at the stars. But one star seems brighter than the rest. As it grows bigger and bigger, the toys realize it may not be a star at all! Soon they’re venturing into the unknown, traveling by spaceship, where they meet a lonely alien in need of help, and some friends.

From ever-inventive, award-winning author-illustrator Mini Grey comes a hilarious and heartfelt new adventure: a motley group of toys left outside in the garden become true friends and brave heroes-in space!

In his international blockbusters The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol, Dan Brown masterfully fused history, art, codes, and symbols. In this riveting new thriller, Brown returns to his element and has crafted his highest-stakes novel to date.

In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces…Dante’s Inferno.

Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust…before the world is irrevocably altered.

Living with three strong-willed, highly individual Dachshunds can be equal parts entertaining, frustrating and rewarding. Just ask Matt Ziselman.

Armed with a fresh, creative voice that is unabashedly cranky one moment and profoundly poignant the next, Ziselman mixes hilarious canine stories, with heartfelt reminiscences from his own life, the results of which is a memoir of illuminating life lessons, courtesy of the three thoroughly Teutonic Dachshunds that he shares his life (and couch) with: Baxter, Maya and Molly. Seemingly mundane moments, like Baxter’s incessant, neuroses inducing staring, Maya’s inexplicable refusal to walk through the front door and Molly’s obsessive compulsive love for a torn and tattered blanket become, through Ziselman’s insightful eyes, a treasure trove of observations that any dog-lover will appreciate. In a market where Americans spend more than $40 billion a year on their pets, this work of razor-sharp wit and quiet tenderness will reach out and grab readers everywhere by the heartstrings and-quite possibly-their leashes.

HOUNDED wraps universal insights in hot-dog-shaped packages, providing true dog lovers with many knowing nods, honest belly laughs and an accurate, warts-and-all reflection of the fascination, wonder and love that they have for their dogs.

When a simple round of truth or dare spins out of control, three girls find it’s no longer a party game — it’s do or die.

It all started on a whim: The game was a way for Tenley Reed to reclaim her popularity, a chance for perfect Caitlin “Angel” Thomas to prove she’s more than her Harvard application. Loner Sydney Morgan wasn’t eventhere; she was hiding behind her camera, as usual. But when all three start receiving mysterious dares long after the party has ended, they’re forced to play along — or risk exposing their darkest secrets.

How far will Tenley, Caitlin, and Sydney go to keep the truth from surfacing? And who’s behind this twisted game?

Set against the backdrop of Echo Bay, an isolated beach town haunted by misfortune, Truth or Dare is a highly charged debut that will keep readers in suspense from beginning to end.

Shaken or stirred, on the rocks or straight up, every cocktail has a unique history. Bringing this rich lore to life, An Illustrated Guide to Cocktails showcases the often romantic origin of classic and modern mixed drinks and the fascinating characters who made them famous. From the crooked gangster who inspired the Jack Rose (a drink often served in Manhattan’s gilded Astor mansion during the Jazz Age) to the legendary Margarita (associated with the Tijuana dancer now known by her stage name, Rita Hayworth), the spirited blend of alcohol and alchemy is showcased on each beautifully illustrated page. The drink recipes include favorite classics (such as Old Fashion, White Russian, Sidecar) alongside forgotten standards such as the Blood and Sand. With guides to various spirits, suggestions for stocking your home bar, and mixing tips and techniques, An Illustrated Guide to Cocktails brings the marvels of mixology to every home bartender.

They are our neighbors, our mothers, our lovers.

They change.

When government agents kick down Claire Forrester’s front door and murder her parents, Claire realizes just how different she is. Patrick Gamble was nothing special until the day he got on a plane and hours later stepped off it, the only passenger left alive, a hero. Chase Williams has sworn to protect the people of the United States from the menace in their midst, but he is becoming the very thing he has promised to destroy. So far, the threat has been controlled by laws and violence and drugs. But the night of the red moon is coming, when an unrecognizable world will emerge…and the battle for humanity will begin.

When 26 Army nurses and medics-part of the 807th Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron-boarded a cargo plane for transport in November 1943, they never anticipated the crash landing in Nazi-occupied Albania that would lead to their months-long struggle for survival. A drama that captured the attention of the American public, the group and its flight crew dodged bullets and battled blinding winter storms as they climbed mountains and fought to survive, aided by courageous villagers who risked death at Nazi hands to help them.

A mesmerizing tale of the courage and heroism of ordinary people, THE SECRET RESCUE tells not only a new story of struggle and endurance, but also one of the daring rescue attempts by clandestine American and British organizations amid the tumultuous landscape of the war.

Nearly five decades ago, John le Carré became an international sensation with the publication of his third novel, The Spy Who Came In from the Cold. His last novel, Our Kind of Traitor, won unanimous critical acclaim and hit the New York Times bestseller list just as the Oscar-nominated film version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy introduced a new generation to his chillingly amoral universe.

A Delicate Truth opens in 2008. A counter-terrorist operation, codenamed Wildlife, is being mounted on the British crown colony of Gibraltar. Its purpose: to capture and abduct a high-value jihadist arms-buyer. Its authors: an ambitious Foreign Office Minister, a private defense contractor who is also his bosom friend, and a shady American CIA operative of the evangelical far-right. So delicate is the operation that even the Minister’s personal private secretary, Toby Bell, is not cleared for it.

Cornwall, UK, 2011. A disgraced Special Forces Soldier delivers a message from the dead. Was Operation Wildlife the success it was cracked up to be—or a human tragedy that was ruthlessly covered up? Summoned by Sir Christopher (“Kit”) Probyn, retired British diplomat, to his decaying Cornish manor house, and closely observed by Kit’s beautiful daughter, Emily, Toby must choose between his conscience and duty to his Service. If the only thing necessary to the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing, how can he keep silent?

Zade is the one motorcycle courier everyone knows. She’s as renowned for her unbeatable skills in navigating the city’s crowded streets as she is for her reckless lifestyle.

In a city with an ancient past, Dis knows the price previous generations paid as the harbor became choked with ships and cobblestone paths became paved streets. As the daytime dispatcher for Uptown Deliveries, Dis helps Zade navigate the city streets.

But all is not as it seems. Dis and Zade’s friends are dying one by one in accidents that shouldn’t be happening. A serial killer is stalking the streets. And in the boardrooms high above the streets, the city’s elite are setting into motion a sinister plan that will ensnare Zade and Dis and threaten the entire metropolis. As Zade and Dis uncover the conspiracy at the heart of the novel, they must face the city’s checkered, often brutal past.

Newly pregnant and scared out of her mind, Jill Smokler lay on her gynecologist’s examination table and heard the biggest lie she’s ever been told in her life: “Motherhood is the most natural thing in the world.” Now, the brutally honest and hilarious memoirist and blogger returns with more refreshingly candid, no-holds-barred stories and anecdotes about the harsh reality of motherhood. As much as she loves being a mom, there is nothing that Jill finds “natural” about getting up at 3 a.m. to quiet a crying baby, awkward play dates with other people’s kids, or even breastfeeding. Some other mommyhood myths she humorously debunks include: You’ll Be Back to Your Old Self in No Time, Boys Are Easier Than Girls, Being Home With Your Kids Is the Most Fulfilling Job in the World, Parenting Strengthens a Marriage, It Gets Easier, and many more. Including funny sidebars and helpful tips, as well as a “eulogy” to Jill’s pre-baby body, this witty and outrageously truthful collection is sure to make you laugh out loud—and perhaps even cry—in solidarity.

With the same zany humor of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Year Zero satirizes the online music industry and Internet culture with the story of a young lawyer who may be our only hope against aliens who realize they owe such enormous fines on their vast collections of pirated music that it would be a lot cheaper just to destroy the Earth.

One of the first Harvard MBAs to specialize in high tech, Rob Reid is a serial entrepreneur who has been involved in many Internet-related ventures. It all comes together in Year Zero, a pitch-perfect look at the intersection of the music world, Washington, D.C., and Internet culture. As young intellectual-property lawyer Nick Carter comes to discover when he receives two very odd visitors late one afternoon, the laws against illegal music downloads have an impact not just around the world-but throughout the galaxy.

What’s good stays good, no matter how much of a beating it takes. . . .

Victoria McQueen has a secret gift for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. On her dayglo blue Raleigh Tuff Burner bike, she makes her way to a rickety covered bridge that, within moments, takes her wherever she needs to go, whether it’s across Massachusetts or across the country.

Vic doesn’t tell anyone about her unusual ability because she knows that no one would believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself. And she knows it isn’t free. Each time she makes a trip across that bridge, a piece of herself is lost.

But Vic isn’t the only one with a special gift.

Charles Talent Manx has a way with children. He likes to take them for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the NOS4A2 vanity plate. With his old car, he can slip right out of the everyday world, and onto the hidden roads that transport them to an astonishing playground of amusements he calls Christmasland. Mile by mile, their journey across the highway of Charlie’s twisted imagination transforms his precious passengers, leaving them as terrifying and unstoppable as their benefactor.

Then, one day, Vic goes looking for trouble-and finds Manx.

That was a lifetime ago. Now, the only kid to ever escape his unmitigated evil is all grown up and desperate to forget.

But the end of one nightmare is just the beginning of another . . . because Charlie Manx hasn’t stopped thinking about the exceptional Victoria McQueen. He’s on the road again and he’s picked up a new passenger: Vic’s own son.

Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.

Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in. And The Program is coming for them.

The pages of Plum: Gratifying Vegan Dishes from Seattle’s Plum Bistro by Makini Howell burst with dishes as tasty and nourishing as they are colorful. Indulge in Tiramisu Pancakes, Grilled Black Plum and Jicama Salad with Radicchio, Habanero Yam Soup, Blue Corn Pizza with Pesto-Grilled Heirloom Tomatoes and Ricotta—even transitional raw recipes like Raw Tostadas with Spicy Strawberry Avocado Salad and Cilantro Relish. You will find chapters on fundamentals and techniques; breakfasts; salads and soups; small plates; tofu; tempeh & seitan; pasta; grains; and desserts. The best part is that everything happens to be vegan, and many of the recipes are also gluten-free and soy-free.

Seattle-based Plum Bistro opened in 2009 and has been committed to creating delicious and wholesome dishes that appeal to omnivores and vegans alike ever since. Now with the Plum cookbook in hand, home cooks will be inspired to craft their own healthful and vibrant vegan meals with fresh local food that brings family and friends around the table.

Fiery-headed Jemma Agromond is not who she thinks she is, and when the secrets and lies behind her life at mist-shrouded Agromond Castle begin to unravel, she finds herself in a chilling race for her life. Ghosts and misfits, a stone and crystals, a mysterious book, an ancient prophecy-all these reveal the truth about Jemma’s past and a destiny far greater and more dangerous than she could have imagined in her wildest fantasies. With her telepathic golden rats, Noodle and Pie, and her trusted friend, Digby, Jemma navigates increasingly dark forces, as helpers both seen and unseen, gather. But in the end, it is her own powers that she must bring to light, for only she has the key to defeating the evil ones and fulfilling the prophecy that will bring back the sun and restore peace in Anglavia.

In this irresistibly funny follow-up to the breakout bestseller Darth Vader and Son, Vader-Sith Lord and leader of the Galactic Empire-now faces the trials, joys, and mood swings of raising his daughter Leia as she grows from a sweet little girl into a rebellious teenager. Smart and funny illustrations by artist Jeffrey Brown give classic Star Wars moments a twist by bringing these iconic family relations together under one roof. From tea parties to teaching Leia how to fly a TIE fighter, regulating the time she spends talking with friends via R2-D2′s hologram, and making sure Leia doesn’t leave the house wearing only the a skirted metal bikini, Vader’s parenting skills are put hilariously to the test.
