Fever by Lauren DeStefano Signing

I had a blast at my first book signing the other night. I got copies of both Wither & Fever (signed).

I went up early and asked for "One of each, signed please" Lauren was really sweet and laid back. She made a seriously social clod like myself relax and enjoy the experience. I reminded her of our brief Twitter convo during CT's first bad snowstorm in October & I was shocked that she remembered-remembered it. I felt kinda special *cheezy grin* I know she talks to like a gazillion fans. I am a total wall flower so for sum1 to remember my random convo w/them in a 140 characters or less is pretty cool to me. lolz.

The crowd was pretty small. I was kinda shocked actually. New Haven is a HUUUGE place and there a ton of colleges around & a lot of teens/young adults. Her fan base basically.

There were a few 16& unders, a few 16-22's, and quite a few 30's on ups. A lady who had to be in her 60's sat by me and asked me to grab her a book off the table. She said she was a huge fan. That was pretty awesome. Lauren's fab story goes waay beyond it's Young Adult genre classification.

One cute lil gal about 13 or 14 asked quite a few great questions. She asked Lauren if "Rhine was going to die when she turns 20?" Lauren laughed and said "You're baaad!" we begged her and sighed in disappointment when she wouldn't answer..

She told us the final sentence for FEVER was written on a receipt that was in her pocket while she was the train. It came to her and she jotted it down and BAM it made the cut. I was so tempted to read it!

So, my husband drove a few authors to signings when he was in Florida and said they lasted a long time.

He thought Lauren's Mom was the Barnes & Nobles manager! He saw her directing the signing so it was an innocent mistake.

He asked her about the length of the signing & a few book questions.

After the reading I pointed to her & said "That's Lauren's Mom", he turned red & told me the story.

When I took my pic with Lauren we told her the story & we all laughed about it.

She also told us Barnes & Nobles refused to give her Mom a copy of Fever a day early. Her Mom said to the big manager "But I am her Mother", They thought she was trying to pull a fast one for an early copy..lol..

We looked around B&N afterwards & had a nice, pleasant, night.

He liked Lauren, thought she was a "cute kid". lolz. She is 27 but looks younger! I said she was 23.

She is really nice too. It's genuine too. She really cared about our questions and comments.

I can't WAIT for another signing! This was so fun for me.

Daily Gifts of Grace: Daily Devotions by Women of Faith REVIEW

I received "DAILY GIFTS OF GRACE: devotions for each day of the year" to review.
While I do not associate myself with any specific religion, I am spiritual.
I have learned about many different spiritual beliefs, and apply them to my life. It works for me.
I received this book in the mail from "THOMAS NELSON PUBLISHERS" via "BOOK SNEEZE" and their blogger program. They (Thomas Nelson) seem to be one of the leading publishers for
religious/Christian reading materials.
The book is quite pretty and has a really neat magnet that closes the flap. It also has a small ribbon attached as a place marker.
It appeals visually.
I read through a few different months to get an overall feel for the book and its message. I did not find it overly preachy, God was not jammed down my throat uncomfortably, there were were no messages of burning in Hell and a vengeful God striking down the sinners, etc.
That relieved me immensely. I have read such things before that were in the self help or similar section.
It is lighthearted, spiritual, and insightful. There is a Bible quote that accompanies each devotion. You don't have to look it up, it is an option. Although I assume most do look it up.
The writing itself was well constructed and easy to understand. I found no glaringly obvious grammar mistakes.
Some reviewers slammed the book for being too light and not in depth on the religious front. There are books like that out there, this book doesn't need that to make it good. Thankfully it is not intense, it would of scared me away.
If you're looking for a good, spiritual, light on the gloom and doom aspects of religion, insightful, relates to everyone, women's devotional, then this is the book for you.

It's FINALLY here, and guess what? I am hoping *fingers crossed* there is some cool swag, like bookmarks & that I am able to get an extra copy of FEVER signed for a giveaway. Depends upon how generous hubbys wallet is ;) The first 2 books are late Valentines Day gifts (I wanted this so I waited for my gift until now) so IDK but I will buy it if I have to. You awesome bloggerz are worth it :)

The suit is thrown out of court further fueling Jimmy Ray’s rage. Bambi had been more than satisfied with her bonus, letters of recommendation and praise from the Alcott clan.
When Jimmy Ray fails to return home from the bowling alley that night, a series of events unfold that shocks the entire Alcott family and their extended members.

REVIEW:
A murder mystery normally has a certain "feel" to it. That is why I usually shy away from them.
As I began this one I was quickly drawn into the world of the Alcott sisters & their father, who reminded me of a 92 year old Jack Tripper (Three's Company), had the show gone on until Jack was 92 that is .
Chocolate drives these women, literally. From a Cocoa colored Bentley, to the hot chocolate drinking chillax sessions the sisters share, to their "paychecks"; their family business is Alcott Chocolate.
It comes time to put Pops in an nursing home (one of those extremely posh ones btw) & Pops is MORE than happy to go.
All seems fine until tragedy strikes. In the form of a murder.
This is where the story really takes off.
This story is incredibly engaging. This is the first time a murder mystery has made me chuckle so much and frantically turning the pages to learn more.
As I was trying to figure out "who dunnit" I was nearly distracted with the antics of the sisters and their supporting cast.
When you're convinced you know who it is, you're proven wrong.
I honestly do not know how Ireland did it, but she was able to make a multi faceted story flow so smoothly.
Every single character in this story added more layers to the mix, without making it a hot mess.
This story is set in the South & it certainly shows in the Sisters attitudes & ways.
Lila Mae, Madge, and Dorothea are the coolest, quirkiest, most diverse set of characters I have come across in quite awhile.
They are all so very different, but each one of them is so easy to fall in love with.
Despite the extreme wealth there is not a pretentious bone in anyone's body.
You feel like they are true down home Southern Gals who wouldn't bat an eyelash if they were brought to eat at a bar with saw dust on the floor.
The author also works astrology into the story & makes it work. You did not feel as if the story line were going off into left field or too kooky.
Parts of this story reminded me of the movie "Soul Food". Absolutely delicious meals were introduced into the story line in such a way you felt as if you were there. A bonus would of been a "scratch and sniff", especially of the hot cocoa & the delish sounding chicken dish!
A huge bonus is the recipes at the end! I am definitely checking those out myself this week.
Overall, we have a murder mystery that is so much more. There is honestly something for everyone no matter your genre preference.
So kickback, grab a cup of cocoa, & be prepared for a genuinely good time. With such a diverse cast of characters that keep you on your toes, and your funny bone tickled, who could ask for more?

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

It’s kind of dangerous to ask this question of a writer because we can blather on and on

because we just don’t know how much or little information you want, so here’s all about me.

I’m the CEO of Artistic Origins Inc, a 100% woman-owned technical writing service and

publishing company that has been doing business since 1995. I’m an award winning self

published author (The Puppy Baby Book and Mastering Your Money), screenwriter (several

winning scripts), technical and creative writer with extensive experience researching, organizing

and scheduling projects. Projects are on time and within budget.

I have been a technical writer since pencils were invented, working with companies such

as Compaq Computer, HP, Waste Management, British Petroleum (BP), Shell International

Exploration and Production, S & B Engineering and Construction, Gas Turbine Maintenance

LLC, Ruggles Green, Lonestar WinDebt and Safety Shorts International creating procedures,

user guides, software, repair, operating, maintenance/service manuals, PowerPoint slide shows,

training and marketing materials.

I’ve been writing stories since attending summer camp around the age of seven. To date I

have five completed novels (science fiction and contemporary), 15 completed screenplays (one

optioned in 2009) and as many scripts in various stages of completion, three short scripts, and

five Reality TV concepts.

The Puppy Baby Book was a finalist in the 2001 Independent Publishers Book Awards

Competition, Mastering Your Money won the New England Book Festival’s ebook category

12/2008, and Plan B was just announced a finalist in the Table Read My Screenplay script

competition 4/2010.

I consider myself the organizational Queen of the Known Universe.

2.What do you do when you are not writing?

Huh? What do you mean by “when you’re not writing”? Giggle… read, watch movies,

read, go to the movies, dinner with friends, play with Midnight, my cat, read, talk, email, text, FB,

Tweet, Linked In, create seminars and workshops, attend to my critique group (in its 19th year)

which means more reading. Then there’s the day job… I’ll stop here.

3.If you had to go back and do it all over, is there any aspect of your novel or getting it

published that you would change?

No. I love the novel the way it is. I would have published it much earlier, but I believe

in “everything happens in its own time”, so no point in kicking that around.

4.Can you tell us about any upcoming books or projects in the works?

Projects: I’m in the process of completing a gigantic webinar for people who have always

wanted to write a book, or have written a book and it’s hidden in a drawer, or someone who is in

the process of writing one. Nuts and Bolts Guide to Publishing an Award-Winning Book will

decrease the learning curve of most would-be writers. It is scheduled for Feb. 28, 29 & March 1

Books: I’m three chapters into book two of the Hot Chocolate series. Bitter Chocolate will

be just as funny with an equally incredible plot and characters. You’ll meet Benny, Chewie, Jingo

and Carmichael. Everyone else will be there (except for our poor, dead Jimmy Ray) so don’t

worry about missing someone.

I also hope to finish editing my big futuristic book The Last Dog. My test readers loved

the first draft. It’s a huge book but I’ll be cutting it down and hope to have it as an eBook this year.

If you’re a dog lover, or just a family person who would do anything to protect your family, then

you’ll love this book.

5.What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

Hhhmmm. I don’t have a favorite chapter. I guess the most fun I have had was with

creating the characters and the funny situations they found themselves in. It was laugh-out-loud

writing when Lila Mae and Madge were thrown into a tizzy, along with Amelia when they were

discussing if it were too early to get a drink. Amelia pretty much says it as she sees it so they

commenced to go to Smokey’s.

6.What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

About 15-20 years ago I received a reject letter from someone who flat out told me that I

had no writing talent whatsoever, especially in the comedy genre. If I could remember who wrote

that I’d send him a link to all the 5-star reviews that practically shout that the book is a laugh out

loud read. But, at the time I received that letter, I ALMOST QUIT writing because I was

devastated.

7.What has been the best compliment

A lot of people feel that they could sit down and have a conversation and a cup of hot

chocolate with my characters because they know them so well. Also – no one (so far) has been

able to guess who the murderer is before the reveal. I had one tour host tell me she ALWAYS

guessed these things by the mid point and she was so happy and thrilled that she was left

guessing to the end.

8.Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?

You bet. Follow your dream. Get rid of anyone who does not support your dream, who

criticizes or tries to humiliate you for your writing. Find and join a critique group of like-minded

writers. If you can’t find one, create one. Never give up, and always have fun with your writing.

9.What sort of Starbuck’s coffee would your characters order? Simple coffee, complicated

soy-non-fat-extra-espresso-half-caff-nightmare?

They’d actually try to sell their own version of café mocha to Starbucks. Mine/the Alcott’s

is 110% better than what I’ve had at Starbucks. My secret is Whole Foods Organic 365 Hot

Chocolate. Depending on my mood and the time of day, I could mix decaf, French roast,

Columbian, etc. The 365 organic HC is so much better than anything out there.

10.If your book were made into a movie, who do you picture playing each characters part?

The best A-list stars available. I don’t have anyone firmly in my head. I’d rather see who

is cast, and I’d love to have conversations with each and every one of them so they understand

the characters quirks.

11. Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Please help me get this wonderful book to the best seller’s list! Spread the word about

RIP WHITNEY HOUSTON:
When I was a little girl "The Greatest Love of All" came out & that song inspired me, it carried me, it kept me goin on days when I did not want to keep going.
No matter my phases in life; hippy, goth, punk, rap girl, etc. Whitney ALWAYS stayed consistent in my musical wardrobe.
I would listen to my Whitney's Greatest Hits Mix Tape & just jam out & think of that guy I loved or broke up with or wanted, life in general.
Last night I put "Greatest Love of All" on as soon as I heard of her death & it made me cry.
I have never seen a talent or voice like that in my years on this earth.
48 years old.
I pray it was NOT due to drugs or alcohol.
She had the voice of an Angel & The Devil wouldn't leave her alone.
RIP beautiful lady. Much love to your daughter & family.

The Mers by Ami Blackwelder Blog Tour

Mira always knew she was different. Growing up with Mers, she never quite fit in. When Mira breaks the rules and takes Niren with her across the border dividing Ellis Island and New Jersey, the border dividing two vastly different worlds, she thought the journey to find out who she really is would be an easy one.

REVIEW:

I must admit "The Mers" was quite different than what I normally read, but when the author presented me with the opportunity to review it, and I was then able to get on the tour with "Bewitching Tours", I hopped on it.

I adore dystopians & mermaids are cool. I have never read a mermaid book, until now (have another for review in my box as we speak) that is.

I did not know what to expect upon cracking it open..

This is the East Coast of the future, a horrible flood overcame the Earth & over the years humans began adapting physically to the flooded earth to survive.

These obviously radical physical changes instilled fear in the "normal" humans & a terrible war ensued.

The Mers, despite their gills & webbing, have extremely beautiful skin, hair, eyes, features. They are coveted by jealous humans.

The Mers were forced to live in exile on Liberty Island while humans remained everywhere else. Mers forbidden to go over the border.

We have Mira, a strong, rebellious, idealistic, teenager who knows her looks make her different than her brethren, yet she is not treated different.

Nerin, a true Mer, is her BFF & is in love with her too.

She trusts him with her life & secrets.

When she reveals to him she's planning on border hopping to get some questions answered he will not let her go alone.

If caught a war would most likely ensue & he could be killed or worse.

The Mers is a sweet mix of fantasy, dystopian and romance. They all balance themselves out so one is not more dominant than the other.

I appreciated that. It drew me into the story after I was hesitant to read it.

I loved the world The Mers lived in. It was quite descriptive & blended what would be a typical mermaid world & human world into one.

It reminded me a little of a seaside village like Mystic, Connecticut.

The relationship between Mira & Nerin is a typical teenage one. It's not overly complicated & pretty predictable.

Not to make them sound boring, but Nerin loves Mira & she wants to deny her feelings for him, he stands by her side despite dangers, etc.etc.

It's not as shallow as I make it sound, but it has been done before, with a few different twists to make it original to this story.

Their reactions to the city "over the wall" are sweet, naive, & innocent. Very refreshing.

The main characters were well developed, I appreciated the integral role Nerissa, (Nerins sister) played in the story. She "fit in" she was not forced upon us.

The supporting characters were colorful & added to the story without overwhelming me.

Overall this was a delightful book & I am happy I gave it a shot.

Finding a suitable crash pad each night is essential. You will need to locate a shelter that will keep you away from the elements. In an urban landscape you can find everything from abandoned buildings to trash dumpsters. Be as far as possible from rioting mobs , and the uglier the better. Look though the eyes of the unsavory characters you wish to avoid. If it looks warm and inviting from the outside, it will be coveted by anyone walking by. Graffiti, broken and boarded up windows, lots of trash lolling about, and overgrown greenery are a good indication the location will not be looted for food or life forms. Looters and mobs will be one of your biggest problems. They are hungry, confused, scared, and desperate. They will do anything. You want to be as far away from them as possible, but if you happen to get caught up with them, act as they do and give them what they want. You just may survive if you play your cards right.

If you find yourself in in the wilderness and cannot find a vacant cave, fig a shelter in a tree, or slap together a small lean to using fallen branches, moss, leaves, and whatever else you can find to make it warm, waterproof, and inconspicuous.

Hello readers: I was watching the local news last night & a library by my house has the absolute COOLEST new thing in their lobby *drumroll pleaze* the "ESPRESSO BOOK MACHINE"
This little honey will take your work of art & make it a fully bound & printed book!
Obviously you can use this for many things. I thought about printing out the poems I wrote, stories to your child, stories to you from a special person, that book sitting in a file in a box in your closet, etc.etc.etc.
IDK the cost, I do know it does cost a few bucks to get the show on the road.
You need at least 40 pages to start, it will give you a hardcover too.
I am posting a few links so you can get the deets for yourself.
I think I will go to Darien Library & check this baby out. Darien Library here in Connecticut is the first & ONLY library in the USA to have the "Espresso Book Machine" in it. Even Yale Universities library doesn't have it! & that's a swanky joint!

When a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Get your affairs settled, pets walked, food made, fave shows set up on DVR, because once you begin reading you will NOT want to stop, for anything.
I have heard mixed things about John's other books (Looking for Alaska & Paper Towns) so when presented with the opportunity to read this I have to admit I was NOT expecting such a phenomenal novel.
As with all new books I get, I skimmed a few pages, unlike the OTHER books I did NOT stop "skimming" until it was 430am!

I wish I could emotionally detach & look at this book & review it constructively. This story will do everything to your emotions, BUT make them detached.

Hazel & Augustus are teenagers, obviously destined to be lovers & best friends, and meant to die long before they normally should.
A cruel twist of fate drags them together. The Cancer Kids Support Group.

Before you think this will be a dreary & sad book bout cancer & kids that die from it, please think again. While cancer is in their lives it has not taken them over. We are not bored to tears with medical lingo & incessant chatter of chemo & it's side effects.
A few medical conversations take place, but they add to the story not control it.

As we live through their eyes & become immersed in their story we cheer for them. We know there will be no unrealistic "OMG THEY FOUND A CURE FOR THIS RARE CANCER" moments & I respect the author for not insulting our intelligence by even leading us to think it is possible.

We want Hazel & Augustus & their friend Isaac to live the best life they can, while their health allows it.
We want to support them & be there for them. That's all we can realistically do.

Isaac is a mutual friend, also from Cancer Kids Support Group. His story line adds depth to the overall story. He shows us how these kids act when a "cure" for cancer doesn't always mean a stereotypical happy ending & how sometimes sacrifices must be made to save a life.

It's easy to see how friendships forged under these circumstances are so strong & true, as fleeting as they may be. They truly learn to take it one day at a time & to appreciate ALL life has to offer. From a sunrise to petting a kitten to playing a video game with your best friends.

Hazel is taken on a vacation with Augustus that changes her life in so many ways it makes you dizzy with emotion.

I was introduced to what seemed to be a strong supporting character & his role was chopped to hell. Peter Van Houten, the alcoholic author they went to Amsterdam to visit. His role confused me a bit. I understood where John Green went, at the end of the story, but Peter Van Houten could of been a stronger, stable, side character. He was such an integral part of the story & was kinda wishy washy when it came down to it.

The other small gripe I had was that these young kids had "Dawson's Creek" syndrome. Sometimes they spoke a bit too mature for even bright 16 & 17 year old kids.

Despite a few small "fly in the ointment" type annoyances this novel had me engrossed from beginning to end.

Hazel & Augustus (Isaac's too) parents were simply awesome. They were what you would imagine a family in their position to be like. Staying strong together in front of their child & crying like helpless babies together behind closed doors, waking up & doing it all again. I liked that, I liked seeing they were human & felt the stress & helplessness & unfairness of it all. It was real. Too real.

This novel will definitely invoke strong emotions in us all. We will rage at the cruelty of cancer yet be glad for every single moment of happiness Hazel, Gus, & Isaac have. Together & apart. Isaac was a supporting character but he really struck a chord with me. I keep mentioning him because IMHO he WAS the strongest of them all.
We think we know where each character will end up, but we don't. John Green has truly crafted a story that will play itself out in your memory long after you close the book.

came upon these quite by accident, just stalking round the blog o' sphere a few minutes ago & BAMMO! I saw these beauties & the drooling & I must have's began!
The price may be a bit high BUT look at them! We pay more than 85$ for UGGS & these are def not "UGG" to look at!
They would make awesome gifts for that special Best Bookish Friend (or me ;) , daughter, loved one, yourself even.

Everneath by Brodi Ashton Tour & Review

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . .

Cover: This cover is absolutely gawgeous! The red dress swirling in the wind & how the wisps of fabric turn into plumes of smoke on the ends is fabulousity.
I love how she is walking through smoke clouds too. Sheer genius.
It tells me nada about the book BEFORE I read it BUT after reading it I can see how it applies. 3 outta 4 stars.

REVIEW: I signed on for this tour quite late & was grateful when I was accepted. Hollow Tours is to thank for today's review & stop btw.
I was afraid the back & forth storytelling would spin me round & round.
LUCKILY I WAS WRONG!
Becks waking up after 100 years in Everneath (6 months in our time), after being fed on by an "Emotional Vampire" named Cole, the entire time was indeed rare.
Normally humans do not survive such an ordeal so intact.
Upon waking from her century/6 month long "Soul Colonic" she was blessedly intact (for the most part) much remained hidden, lost, or a mystery soon to be uncovered.
She was sent back home after refusing Cole's invite to remain by his side & become like him.
The only caveat was she had to use the next 6 months to say goodbye. She was doomed to return to "The Tunnels" until her demise.
Cole has other plans for her however.
Her sudden re-appearance was not one filled with tears & joyful homecoming hugs from her friends & the love she left behind, Jack.
It was met with disdain & suspicion & cruel rumors.
Not only was she a truly changed young lady she had MUCH to make up for in a short amount of time.
While the story revolves around Becks & Jack & Cole, Becks family & friends play strong supporting roles.
I do wish I could have seen more of her family repped however. As a family unit they went through so much & their story really added the "potatoes" to the overall "meat" of the story. It would of been nice to hear more from the sidelines.
Many keep referencing a Greek Myth when reviewing this, Persephone & Hades.
I quickly re read the cliff notes of it & must agree, I see it's STRONG influences in Everneath.
Becks does NOT want to be like Cole. It would be the easy way out, rule as Queen VS the alternative: "The Tunnels". To many it would be a no brainer.
Becks impresses me with this. She wants to hang onto humanity despite the rather dyer circumstances she is about to face.
She sadly had to learn the hard way. I thought I would be faced with a cry baby/whoa is me type but I was not.
She took responsibility for her actions & worked like an adult to rectify her situation.
She went through a "mourning period" where it seemed she was resigned to her fate & life was as it was. I was glad she grew a pair & got over it.
As for being Team Cole or Team Jack..Hmmmm..IDK. Yet.
I won't lie, I was not drawn into & head over heels by the end of Chapter 1. It did take me a few chappys to get into the heart of the story.

The writing was beautiful & flowed well. The jumps between the time periods were smooth transitions & not choppy messes.
The characters were human (well..) & FLAWED. Yes. FINALLY. REAL PEOPLE. Luv em!
IF she had returned home to flowers and balloons and a freaking party I would of chucked the book out the window! I would of deleted it actually, not chucked my tablet out the window. errr...

Overall, despite a rough start I got into this decadent little gem. I will be stalking for the follow up & praying it is not too far behind.

To say this is an Y.A. Novel is to mean it literally. While it was very well written & entertaining, it is undoubtedly going to appeal to young men between 10-18 (adults too) more than young ladies & women. That's just MY opinion however. Some young ladies & women may love it to pieces.
As we begin book 2 in this series, we have seen Colt go from typical teenage boy believing Aliens were comic book fodder, to being the key player in an intergalactic (soon to be) war.
Having lost his parents in a not so typical car crash, he is full of questions & dealing with the grieving process.
When the US Government decides he is to be the "IT" Man in their war against the upcoming Alien Invasion, he is sent to C.H.A.O.S, a school where he will train to be the ultimate soldier in this war against the Aliens.
His 2 best friends join him there, Oz & Danielle.
It seems as if he is being (quickly, too quickly to be realistic) groomed to not only be a student at C.H.A.O.S but to be the successor to the C.H.A.O.S Directorship.
That does NOT sit well with others.
There seems to be humans who are not quite on board with this surfer kid becoming their shining beacon of hope. They will stop at NOTHING to end Colt. Their reach is far & wide. Colt needs to be very wary of whom he trusts.
Join Colt & his friends on their journey together to save the world.

Jon Lewis's book is filled with a descriptive & imaginative story-line & characters.
The story flows well on it's own (in case you missed book 1 in the series you would never know it, but do read it if you're a fan) & barely misses a beat from chapter to chapter.
Not only are we introduced to an amazing world of the future, we are taught valuable lessons along the line. This book is NOT religious or preachy at all, you will easily read through the few small parts where Colt's faith is mentioned & not feel as if it swallowed up the story-line. Just the opposite, the parts are sweet & add to Colt's character growth.
His 2 best friends are strong supporting characters. They would definitely be missed were they not included.

All of the libraries around my house have free book bins & I saw Twilight & Eclipse (paperbacks, kinda beat up) in one of them so I grabbed em, then I heard the library on Madison Ave. may have New Moon & Breaking Dawn ( I know too good to be true huh?) So I hightailed it across town to get there & sure enough there was New Moon but not Breaking Dawn. I was more than grateful at this point. I ended up getting Breaking Dawn on a book swap site.
It was kinda cool how in how in one day I got 3 of the series for free when I had not one of them. Now I ALWAYS save my books for those same book bins. Who knows maybe that copy of Fallen or the 3rd Vampire Academy book is what someone was looking for.

Young Bridgett Pickwick-Buchanan (33) has been a widow for 4 years. Still in mourning for her husband, some members of her family decide it's time to "move on" & shake off the "Widow Weeds".
Bridgett is as hippy as hippy gets (in this generations meaning of the word anyways). Dreadlocked & "Green" as a Cucumber, she is dedicated to making the world a better place. Saving Mother Earth from us one flower at a time.
When her beloved Uncle's health begins failing him, it is now up to her to sell their family estate, to the most eco friendly person possible.
In walks J.C. Dirk from Atlanta, who is not only handsome (of course), but seems to be as eco friendly as a Southern Conservative Rich Man from Old Money could be.
J.C. has a few secrets of his own motivating him, when it comes to buying the Pickwick Estate from the granola crunchin pretty Bridgette he will stop at nothing to be the "perfect" candidate.
As the story goes on we find out a few juicy secrets about the Pickwick family history.
At the same time Bridgette's belief in God & prayer helps her immensely. This is not a shove it down your throat, overly religious book, either.
This book is definitely Not my usual read, but I gave it a shot, and was pleasantly delighted with what I found.
Bridgette's view of how to save the earth & of life in general, reminded me of a young me. Dreadlocks & all! Although mine were hardly dreadlocks, because I had to wash my hair they turned into little "twistys", but I tried..lolz..
This is sweet story that I would consider to be a Christian Romance-Lite/Fiction.
Some parts were predictable, one made me mad (if you read it you will know when you get to it), some were sweet, inspiring, thought provoking.
Overall a decent read if you're looking for something light & sweet & easy.
I found out when I was done this was book 3 in a series & now I want to read the prior books. This stands alone, the others were not required to understand this books ins & outs.

"Lucky", my kitty who went to kitty heaven yesterday morning. She had severe kidney failure. She was 7-8 years old. I wrote a memorial to her here.

"Wow! Only ten? Our barbaric overlords must not have gotten very good grades in their high school English classes. I think they're just a little sore about it. Oh well! If it was my responsibility to save the future of humanity from cultural desolation, I would choose...

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. This is a classic of world literature and a must-read for, well, anyone, of any age. It's one of my all time favorite books.

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Because I think a little apocalyptic humor might rouse the spirits of our poor post-doomsday survivors.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Sure, it won't have its six preceding books to back it up, but if you don't know the gist of the story by now – where have you been hiding?

Crossroads by Mary Ting. The romance is feel-good and inspiring, and will hopefully kindle the flames of love amongst our weary survivors.

Thirteen Reasons Why from Jay Asher.

Bram Stoker's Dracula will be a valuable asset for aspiring writers to grip the essence of the paranormal in their work.

Romeo and Juliet. I don't think this one needs too much of an explanation.
Morrigan Michelle and Misty Carmony's Blood and Magick: Betrayed will provide a fast paced (and romantic) thriller so our dystopian survivors can indulge themselves in a healthy dose of fantasy.

And when the time comes to get down to business, let's go with V.I. Lenin's The State and Revolution and Reason in Revolt by Ted Grant and Alan Woods."

INTERVIEW WITH MARLON:

Have you ever regretted killing off a character?
Yes, and readers of Wandering Stars will see this in the sequel, Silvernight. This character was relatively minor in the first book, but I really liked him. He had personality. There were so many directions he could go in – when I killed him I felt like I was cutting off a real person's life before it was his time.

How do you remain sane while going through the writing & publishing/marketing process?

How do I remain sane? I don't! My fiancée is a great with helping me keep my head on straight when it comes to executing marketing plans.

Have you ever seen yourself in a character in a book/movie you have read/watched? What book/movie? What character? Why?

I saw some of myself in Joe Hill's Heart Shaped Box, in the form of Jude, a rock star haunted by a spirit bent on avenging the death of his old girlfriend. Sometimes I saw too much of myself, in fact. I'm not an aging heavy metal front-man and I have no intention of ever being one, but I think we can all identify with being haunted by the mistakes of our past.

Has the dog ever eaten your manuscript?

No, but pretty close! I got a puppy last month and, while I was away, she ate several important documents left by the computer stand – but thankfully, leaving alone the three pages of my untyped manuscript that I left out.

What's the loveliest thing you have ever seen?

On July 7th, 2008, I got off a Greyhound bus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and saw my girlfriend's smile in person for the first time. Previously it had been a long distance relationship since I lived in Florida. Nothing has been able to top that since.

Have you ever seen a ghost? Visited a "haunted place" on purpose?
No, and yes.

Would you sleep over at a friends home that was roach infested (your car broke down, snowed in, etc.)?
Only if the roaches knew how to fix my car.

You have to pick 4 movies to survive the upcoming apocalypse, what movies do you pick?
It's A Wonderful Life, Slumdog Millionaire, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Queen of the Damned.

Advice for aspiring writers/artists?
Don't try to shoe-horn your craft into what is currently popular. If you love to write hard science fiction but you're writing YA romance instead because it sells better, you're squaring the circle. Trends change. Create what your mind guides you to create. I write YA because I love it, and I'll keep on writing it even if its popularity fades.

Life advice/home spun wisdom you live by?

Be your own police, priest, parent, whatever you want to call it. Build a moral code for yourself, using your own judgement, and follow it scrupulously. Remember that you're a part of society and that the goal should be to leave this world a better place than it was when you entered it.
