Nerissa Garcia, Isay as she is fondly called by her classmate-founder of Books For A Cause (BFAC), Ramil Sumangil, collected old books and magazines from the Champagne Edition Condominium (Pasig City) where she works, and donated to BFAC

.

Over Isay's choco-baon and some laughter, they discussed and strategized further on how she can possibly collect more books from the area where she works.

Ramil occasionally meets with his high school (1982) batchmates from St. Pius X Institute (SPXI), Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija and excitedly discusses his book advocacy to everyone.

Just recently and in time for his nth birthday, Tess Gatan donated several BFAC patches which Ramil sports in his caps and select t-shirts.

A Barong Tagalog was also donated by the batch in a mini-reunion arranged by Isay to be with their ever-beautiful classmate, Laureta Bangayan who took her annual vacation from her work in Dubai.

HELP SAVE A LIBRARY

2012-06-09T17:08:00.010-07:00

Books For A Cause (BFAC) helps in bringing precious knowledge to every Filipino by way of helping in building libraries in the remote areas of the country.

It currently aims to renovate its first community library in the remote barangay of Baloy, Cuyapo,Nueva Ecija.

Baloy Community Library opened on January 19, 2012. Barely a few months, termites started to attack and leaving the shelves and some books eaten up due to its old and un-finished flooring and walls where termites come in...

Please click below to save a library.

Fundraising Ideas

Objectives:

To be able to -

1. Repair the old and unfinished floor where termites passes through. Tiles would be the best solution;

2. Repair / replace the old wall on one side. It is partly made up of old plywood. We aim to concretize it;

3. Repair the existing bookshelves already and partly eaten up by termites. New bookshelves would also be a solution;

4. Finally purchase tables and chairs as the existing old table and chairs were just borrowed and are being pulled out when needed by the owner, thus leaving the library with no tables and chairs;

5. Add more ceiling fans as the sole fan is not enough to ventilate the whole area, leaving children perspiring while studying;

6. To be able to repaint the interior and the whole structure, in-and-out to be more conducive to learning and be more attractive to the children and the whole community, thus attracting more "learners" to come and serve its very purpose as house of learning.

Only then could we bring in more books for our children - our next generation.

It needs our help.

PLEASE HELP SAVE BALOY COMMUNITY LIBRARY!

I Love To Read.. Yes we really do :)

San Juan is a remote barangay, 16-rough-long-road-kms away from the town proper of Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija. It has been raining for the past few days and the night before and the road has literally become muddy. The Team needed to transfer to a passenger jeep from the Cuyapo town proper to the venue.

The books needed to be transferred to a PUV sent by the barangay officials as the road is not passable by cars anymore due to muddy road brought about by the bad weather

The entourage almost got stuck and really gave the community folks and men of the team a hard time pushing the vehicle to finally reach its destination.

Sir Teo (in red shirt) of CTI helped in pushing the jeep . . .

The barangay folks to the rescue!

The Team finally got to the venue and met the waiting community by 10:00 AM.

A total of 110 pupils from Day Care Center, and Preparatory up to Grade Six levels benefited from this activity.

BFAC volunteers also joined the group, namely Teacher Fatima Sumangil Molina, Film Director Carlo Alvarez and Ms. Charmaine Belarmino of Alcazar Films.

Teacher Carlo Manalac of the DepEd's Alternative Learning System also joined the gift-giving activity.

Of course, this event would have not been successful without the full cooperation of the school faculty led by Teacher Claro Cleto, and the Local Government Unit led by Barangay Captain Dasalla.

All things work together for good.

To GOD be all the glory.
