Reneau Peurifoy released the new book, “Why Did God Give Us Emotion?” In his book Peurifoy tackles these questions. He addresses the four main aspects of emotions: the subjective nature of emotions, the physical side of emotions, the mental side of emotions, and lastly the spiritual side of emotions.

Emotions are hard to figure out…mysterious even. However, Peurifoy takes the enigma out, dissects it, and puts it into terms that laymen can understand.

I’ve always admired Mary at a distance until one day a good friend of mine, T. Suzanne Eller, introduced us at the SheSpeaks conference in North Carolina in August. Up until that point I could never muster up the courage to contact her to invite her to be a guest on Books A Latte. However, I chickened out…again.

My daughter, T accompanied me on this trip to the conference. Sometime during the teen portion of the conference, T met Mary. She won an autographed copy of Mary’s book Daisy Chain (the sequel is entitled Slow Burn). Well, on the entire trip home the name Mary DeMuth seeped from her lips more times than I can remember. I made the mistake of thinking that the excitement would slip away as time distanced her from the memorable occasion…NOT! This child gave new meaning to the word “relentless.” She would not allow me to wallow in my fear that Mary was too important to take the time to talk with me.

We met Mary in August and I didn’t interview her until November. Is T persistent or what?

I meet Karen at the 2009 SheSpeaks conference in North Carolina. She drew me in with her warm heart and we connected instantly.

During our interview Karen shared great tips on how to get and stay organized. Her book, The Complete Guide to Getting & Staying Organized, she touches on a myriad of areas from clutter to cooking and everything in between.

She gives me an awesome suggest to solve my issues with “the never ending pile of dirty clothes.”

We also talked about one of her other books entitled, A Life That Says Welcome. Karen explains to us that great hospitality isn’t about gourmet food and gorgeous decor, but it’s about your heart.

As the wife of a minister, sometimes we have unexpected company, this book gave me practical advice on how to be prepared. In one of the chapters in this book, Karen talks about how to decorate on a budget, she elaborates on the concept that less actually is more, and also how simplicity plays an important role in the warmth of welcoming.

I just had a wonderful interview with author of The Mountain Beyond, Terry Miller. He took the stiff professionalism out of the interview and replaced it with warm hospitality leaving a cozy atmosphere that soon overflowed with laughter.

Terry Miller is as vigorous as a youth half my age, let alone his age.

“Hoppy is gone! What will we do?”

My father replied. “Well, we just have to search for him.”

“Well, I’m sure he’ll turn up in due time.”

There it was, the final anticipation that he would come home! However, I didn’t buy it! Off to my room I went – dejected and devoid of all hope. The tears came quickly in the quiet of my room. Emotion, especially tears, was an expression of feelings that were not allowed in our household. As a matter of fact, this era did not support the outward showing of emotion period! It was the philosophy that, “Grown men don’t cry!” Why not?

Men were supposed to be strong, masculine, and reserved. Showing other emotions diminished that role. Tears were not to be shown. Hugs and saying “I love you” were rarely seen nor were they acceptable.

About the Author:

Terry Miller was born on August 25, 1939 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He grew up in a small town of Thurmount, Maryland during the 1940’s and 50’s. He was inspired to share this memoir dealing with the struggles of climbing life’s mountains; more importantly, the victories achieved along the way. It takes the reader though life’s experiences that evolve into personal growth lessons and lasting spiritual strengths.

Terry resides with his wife on a five acre country setting in Waxahachie, Texas with their horses and a “free range” dog named Smokey. Terry and his wife have four adult children and six grandchildren. He retired from a career in banking and is the Director of Pastoral Care in Waxahachie Bible Church.
