INSECT BITE

Symptoms – redness, slight swelling, and possibly some itch. Reaction to the sting can sometimes more pronounce: hoarseness, labored breathing, confusion, difficulty swallowing, and severe swelling.
Sometimes the reaction can be severe: possible closing of the airway and perhaps shock (cyanosis and a drop in blood pressure).

Causes – certain stinging insects in North America can cause reactions (honeybees, bumblebees, African bees, hornets, scorpions, fire ants, yellow jackets, wasps, spiders, centipedes, and ants). Of these, the honeybee, yellow jacket, and African bee are most dangerous.
Bee venom contains formaldehyde. Note: Each year, bee stings cause more deaths in America than snake bites.

Remedies

-	Pull out the stinger, if any remains. (Honeybees leave their stinger in the wound. It must pull out immediately; for it keeps pulsating venom into the skin.) Avoid removing the stinger with your fingers; use a knife blade to scrape it out, to avoid squeezing in more poison.

-	Do not scratch the area. Although it provides some relief, it can lead to a secondary infection. Instead, quickly apply a natural remedy to reduce the itch.

-	Drink as much yellow dock tea as you can or take Echinacea tea or in a capsule form

-	Ironically, either hot or cold, will lessen the pain, when placed on the area. Heat eases distress because it neutralizes a chemical, which causes inflammation. Cold also reduces inflammation.

-	A lengthy hot tub bath will help relieve abdominal pain that often develops after a bite/

-	A cold pack or ice pack on the area will help relieve pain.

-	To strengthen the body’s defenses, after being bitten, take B6 (50 mg) and pantothenic acid immediately after the bite, to help detoxify poisons and prevent allergic reactions. Thereafter, take one high-potency B complex tablet daily. Take vitamin C immediately; during the rest of that first day. Adding bioflavonoids to the C dosage increases the protection. Calcium reduces pain and lessens stomach irritation from the acidity of vitamin C.

-	Eat citrus fruits and green and yellow vegetables to boost immunity.

DIET and NUTRIETS

-	Take vitamin C orally to bowel tolerance (take as much as you can without producing diarrhea, which shows the excess being excretes). Take vitamin A (best take as carotene; carrot juice and green and yellow vegetables), vitamin V complex, and vitamin E (400 IU). Get plenty of bed rest and drink many fluids, to help flush the system. Clean the bowels with an enema once a week. Stay on a vegetarian diet – avoiding heavy starches, chocolate, excess sweets, and too many saturated or hydrogenated fats.

-	Go on a liquid fast (fruit juice and water is the best) for 24 to 72 hours and stay in bed as much as possible during that time. This will cleanse the system and prepare it for a nourishing diet. This also helps reduces excess weight. Take alternate hot and cold shower every morning and evening (or cool baths every evening). Drink distilled water with fresh lemon juice, plus 3 cups of goldenseal or Echinacea tea, each day.

-	A nutritious diet with adequate vitamins and minerals needed to correct the problems in the body, which led to the abscessed condition. Also good: garlic and kelp.

POULTICES

-	A slippery elm bark and lobelia poultice soothes and helps promote healing. Apply honey externally to the area. It is believe that honey destroys bacteria by drawing the moisture out of those sores. Applying chlorophyll water to the area several times a day will keep it cleansed.

-	Wrap a bruised, wet plantain leaf around the inflamed area. Keep it wet with plastic covering. Apply large, soaking witch hazel compresses to any swelling or inflammation.

-	On such open skin ulcers, you van also place herbal poultices – such as German chamomile, marigold, arnica, cliff rose, snakeroot, and/or witch hazel. Also helpful is red clover tea, carrot, and beet juice. Also good: burdock root, cayenne, and yellow dock root. Chamomile is widely used in Europe to treat leg ulcers. Tee tree oil is outstanding, but dilutes it.

-	Simmer several peach pits, wash the infected area with an herb tea, and apply a compress of the peach-pit juice.

-	Goldenseal, myrrh, and comfrey can make into a paste, which will heal almost any sore.

BURNS

Symptoms – there are first-degree burns (redness), second degree burns (redness and blisters), and third degree burns (the entire skin and some of the underlying muscle is destroyed). For third degree burns, immediately go to a doctor or an emergency room. Extreme is a fourth degree burn. Instead of oozing flesh, the area is dry and charred.

Causes – tissue damage to the skin because of heat, chemical, electrical, or radiation injury. First-degree burn: usually from sun or water. Second-degree burn: generally from hot metal objects, flamed contact burns, or severe sunburn. Third-degree burn: hot fluid burns, steam from a pressure cooker, electrical burns, or high-flame contact. Third degree burns are often not painful because the nerve has destroyed.

Remedies

-	First degree: mix equal parts of white vinegar with water and cover the burn surface, twice a day. Also, apply aloe vera, tea tree oil, or vitamin E oil locally. Tannic acid is use in clinics for surface burns that have begun to heal. At home, you can effectively use white oak bark tea; apply locally as a tea and wet compress.

-	Second degree: apply vitamin E oil or zinc oxide. Take vitamin C to bowel tolerance. Apply aloe vera after healing begins.

-	Third and fourth degrees: immediately take the person to the hospital. Do not try to remove clothing stuck to the burned area. Apply aloe vera after healing has begun.

BOILS (Furuncles, Carbuncles)

Symptoms – itching, mild pain, local swelling, often on the scalp, buttocks, face, or underarms. Within 24 hours, the boil becomes red and filled with pus. Fever and swelling of the lymph glands nearest the boil may occur. Boils are tender, red, painful, and appear suddenly.

Causes – boils are small pus-filled bumps. The medical name for them is furuncles. They are generally cause by a staph infection: hemolytic Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

In contrast, carbuncles are many-headed boils, which tend to combine and enlarge. They begin as a painful, localized infection, producing pus-filled areas in the deeper layers of the skin. Carbuncles are slower healing than boils. They both treated alike.

Boils are contagious. Do not let the draining pus, which contains both dean and live bacteria get on the skin elsewhere. When it spreads to nearby area, the result is a carbuncle. A boil on an eyelid is a sty.

Untreated boils tend to exude their poisons and disappear within 10-24 days. Nevertheless, give careful treatment; they are contained and less severe.

Keep in mind that if the body is trying to expel a poison especially sulfur through the skin, you may continue to have a string of boils for a time. The body is trying to cleanse itself of something bad. Inorganic sulfur in the body is especially prone to come out in skin boils,

Bed Sores (Pressure Sores, Decubitus Ulcers)

Symptoms – these are deep skin ulcers – especially found on buttocks, hips, sacrum, shoulder blades, elbows, and heels.

Causes – these ulcers form during periods of prolonged bed rest, as pressure continually applied to bony parts of the body. The bedridden elderly, the unconscious, and the paraplegic are those most likely to experience this problem. Such individuals generally have a high pH and are deficient in vitamins A, B2, E, and C, as well as zinc.

Bed Sores Prevention

Prevention is much easier than treatment. Removing the pressure at the first signs of redness usually aborts the sores. Use protective padding on the bed; massage the skin to stimulate the circulation. Avoid moist skin. Keep the skin dry and clean (especially avoid urine on the skin). Turn the patient regularly. Watch for signs of redness. Occasional sunlight to the skin is beneficial. Sponge bathe daily with a mild herbal soap never with harsh soaps. The bed must be kept clean and the sheet without wrinkles. Sheepskin bed covers help disperse weight more evenly. The use of air or water mattresses can be helpful. Loose-fitting clothing allows air to penetrate to the skin. I the patient can sit up, have him do it 3-4 times a day. Sometimes prop him up with a pillow. Massage the area with petroleum jelly over the pressured points.

-	Give a well-balanced, adequate diet. Give plenty of green and carrot juice. Give vitamins A (one-half beta-carotene), B complex, Vitamin C (1,000 mg), bioflavanoids, and vitamin E (400 IU). Also, copper (4 mg) and zinc (20 mg).
-	Apply vitamin e oil to the skin area
-	The Alternate Hot and Cold Compress is very helpful

Symptoms of Mitral Valve Prolapse: possible palpitations or chest pain is some children; but most cases are undiscovered until a routine physical exam. Diagnosis can easily make with a stethoscope. The heart sound is like click; and sometimes a murmur heard.

Causes: this is the most common heart abnormality in children and adolescents; it is usually first noticed in childhood. The mitral valve (which lets blood flow from the left atrium of the heart into the left ventricle) flops closed, making a “click.” If the valve does not close tightly, some blood will leak back, causing a murmur sound. Neither the clock nor the murmur generally causes much problem for the heart. Only 3.6% of those with this prolapsed also have other medical problems.

Natural Remedies for Mitral Valve Polapse

-	In nearly every case, the child does not need to especially protected or have physical activity restricted. Unnecessary diagnostic procedures are not need.
-	For one who has this defect, deep breathing exercises will help relieve stress.
-	Eat a nutritious diet, which is low in salt and fat. Do not overeat and keep the weight down. Every extra pound requires an extra 5 miles of blood vessels. Caffeine will induce palpitations.

Symptoms:	slow physical development, moderate to severe mental retardation, and facial features which are somewhat flattened. Ears are set low, tongue is large and furrowed, and hands are broad short and have a single (simian) crease across the palm.

Cause:	this called trisomy 21. Down’s syndrome occurs during fetal development; but this not inherited. The problem is an extra 21st chromosome. It occurs in 1 out of 700 live births. The risk increases greatly after the age of 34.

People with Down’s syndrome can, with care, live to old age. However, they are prone to Alzheimer’s disease, pneumonia, and other lung diseases.

Remedies

-	A nourishing diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts is very important, plus proper rest. Avoid foods containing gluten (wheat, oats, barley, and rye). Avoid sugars, refined foods, dairy products, tobacco smoke, and alcohol. Give him supplements in liquid form. The entire B complex is important for brain development.
-	Exercise is important, so oxygen get to the brain. Carefully plan an activity, which is need at an early age, to provide exercises to improve his motor skills.
-	Children with this problem tend to be very affectionate. Hold your child and show him love; and he will become even more kindly and affable. Involve him in whatever you are doing; encourage your other children to do the same.

Birth Defects – Congenital Infections

Symptoms: Varieties of problems to the infant include miscarriage, preterm birth, Illness at birth, and physical abnormalities.

Causes: most infections contacted by a mother during pregnancy do not affect the fetus; but some cross the placenta and cause harm. These infections are often brief, minor illnesses for the mother; and she may be unaware of them. However, chronic infections such as HIV may also pass on.

The effect on the baby depends on when the baby received it. In early pregnancy, the development of organs may disrupt and a miscarriage may occur. Infections in later pregnancy may result in premature labor and a baby who is seriously ill at birth. Infections may also transmit as the baby passes through the birth canal.

First part of pregnancy: in the first three months, rubella can produce heart abnormalities, (congenital heart disease), impaired hearing, and impaired vision. Toxoplasmosis, or cytomegalovirus, can cause miscarriage or malformations. The first can cause damage to the retina; the second is the leading cause of congenital deafness.

Later in the pregnancy: the above two diseases can result in preterm labor, stillbirth, and serious illness in the newborn. Listeriosis may cause miscarriage.

Chronic viral infections: which be transmitted include HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, and trichomoniasis. These infections do not always produce symptoms at birth; but they may cause acute and sometime fatal illness in the newborn. The risk infection is greater if the mother’s waters break prematurely.

Preventives

-	If people in your neighborhood are getting rubella, avoid extensive contact with others during the first three months of pregnancy.
-	To avoid toxoplasmosis, do not have a cat in the house; and do not clean cat feces.
-	To avoid listeriosis, do not eat soft cheese, pate, poorly cooked meat, or dairy products.
-	In order to avoid venereal diseases, do not practice unsafe sex.
-	Do what is needed to avoid hepatitis.
-	If you have HIV or active genital herpes, it is best to have delivery by cesarean section.

Infant Feeding Dos and Don’ts

From the beginning, give your baby a little water, gradually increasing the amount. Do not give orange juice or tomato juice until he is older. He/she is precious gift; so you want to give him/her the best of care.

At 3 months, begin a little blended food. By 9 months, the baby should be eating a variety of carefully prepared natural foods. However, in order to avoid food allergies, many experts declare that breast-feeding alone, with nothing else for the first 6 months, is best.

Do not give the baby any grains (wheat, oats, rice, etc.) until he is 6 months old. When the baby is 6 months old, dilute 4 teaspoons of whole-wheat flakes in boiling water until entirely dissolve, put through a fine sieve, and add to the baby’s bottle (if you are giving him a bottle by then). A little powdered oatmeal can also add.

When the first teeth appear, begin feeding wholesome simple foods in puree form (such as greens, vegetables, fruit juices, and gruels).

Do not give the infant cane sugar in any form. This can lead to fever and various ailments. Use malts sugar. Do not give honey or orange juice.

Do not give the infant meat. Feeding an infant meat, cane sugar, white-flour products, candies, or soft drinks causes him/her lose his taste for simple, natural foods; and it is responsible for rickets, scurvy, tonsil trouble, night terrors, anemia, and convulsions.
