Oh yes, it definitely is beneficial on a new site. Why? It enables your new visitors to subscribe to your blog in order to quickly access your new posts. Quick access is provided via an RSS reader or by an email notification of each new blog post you publish. Anything that will make it easier for your readers to join the conversation of your blog is beneficial.

They are more likely to become loyal readers and visit frequently. They are ready to listen to what you have to say and, therefore, decide to implement a way to come back again and again. Hopefully they will also contribute their own comments and stimulate the conversation, too.

One way to look at this is to view an RSS reader as a map to your blog so your business associates, colleagues, family, friends and acquaintances can visit your internet home aka your blog on the internet. When they’re ready to go visit your blog they only need to navigate to their reader.

Once there they can see the headlines and excerpts of updated posts from all of your blog and their other RSS subscriptions. They can quickly access the full post of the headlines or excerpts that grab their attention by simply clicking on the feed. What is the best way to go with podcasting? Are there really a lot of listeners?

As for the best way to go about podcasting? Truthfully I can’t say this is the best way as I haven’t delved into the world of podcasting myself. Not so sure my voice would make for good listening so this is one thing from which I’ve shied away. (My southern accent was once banned from backing up the receptionist when I was employed at a firm in Chicago. Naw, I wasn’t upset. ) I can, however, point you in the direction of the location of tools you’ll need for podcasting.

First, you need the tools to record your message and publish it. You can get free recording software from Audacity. Then you will need hosting space to store your audio file so it’s accessible to your audience of listeners. Second, yes, there are a lot of listeners. The trick is rounding them up and the best way to do that is to spend time on the internet socializing with others with an interest in your message(s). You also will need to use traditional methods of marketing offline such as, for instance, passing out your business card that includes a web address to your podcasts.

I use the term socializing because that’s really the best method in my opinion of marketing be it online or offline. You want to become active in the social circles, or networks as they’re more often referred to online, of those who share your interests. You can find social networks by searching on Google’s search engine using the search terms social network baby boomers or social network plus whatever term(s) best describe(s) you and your interests.

Once you’ve developed relationships with others, extend an invitation to those in your circle and also ask that they invite others to listen, too. Setup an email list that listeners can opt into if they so desire as a means of also getting your podcast out there. Subscribers of your email list can forward email messages received from you to those they believe will be served by the information you share. This will also help to grow your listening audience.

It’s never too late to get started. As a Baby Boomer I’m sure you have a wealth of information and a library of your own favorite music from a lifetime of experience and collecting to share that will be entertaining and/or helpful to somebody in someway so Go For It! Although I have the ability to connect my laptop to the internet using my Blackberry as a modem, I haven’t yet explored that feature. It’s now an item at the top of my to-do list.

So, how did I write this without power on my computer, you ask. By way of my Blackberry. Thank goodness for the Qwerty keyboard. Otherwise, I’d just have to wait until the power is restored to post this.

I typed it up using the Memo Pad on my BB and then copied and pasted this content into a “write post” window after signing into my blog admin via my browser on my BB.

Ahhh, wouldn’t you know the moment I finish preparing this for publication the power is restored. Gawd, I love power and technology.

Hey! I think I’m going to like the Thesis theme. I’ve been busy the last few hours exploring this new toy I got for my new blog. I do believe Mr. Pearsonified, Chris Pearson, did quite an impressive job of creating this robust and versatile Wordpress theme known as Thesis.

Why so impressive to me? Because it looks as though even I will be able to create and build a ♣visually♥ ♦interesting♣ blog that will hopefully dress up my words (hmmm…would an assortment of fonts help with that, too?). There’s even a kitchen sink in it! You’ll see it when you get yours.

Boomer Broads, you needn’t worry. You’re not going to have to bring home the blog bacon, fry it up in a blog pan, AND wash the blog pan. The kitchen sink is really more like a dishwasher because it automates things such as:

• adding media
• adding bulleted points
• pasting from Word
• using other languages
• using colors
• and unusual characters among other things.

Thank you, Mr. Pearsonified! I need all the help I can get to avoid dishpan hands with wrinkled skin and busted up funky looking blog posts!

I’m anxious to see if I can dress it with my Sunday blog best on Sunday, WAH or career blog attire Monday thru Friday, and the ultimate comfy casual blog outfit on Saturday with this theme. (Uh, no. Rein in those thoughts…bikinis are out.) So far, it looks like I’m still able to wear white. Well, it IS still before Labor Day.

Don’t you love new electronic and technical toys? I do. I can spend hours exploring, playing, and checking to see what the cause and effect is of all the bells and whistles on a new electronic or technical toy, and I’m always amazed. Power. Pure.D.POWER! I LOVE it! Especially the stuff that has it’s own version of a Hemi in it or a diesel, and I DO believe this theme does.

Now I’ve just got to learn the gear pattern so I can speed shift into high gear when I’m in the mood to play. Where’s the Jake Brake? I might need it.
