The Boone County Democratic Central Committee is looking for an energetic, politically experienced candidate to administer the programs of and communicate with Boone County’s Democratic Party.  This is a professional position that often requires work on weekends and evenings.  During the campaign season, long hours and maximum effort are the norm.

The executive director must possess the requisite skill sets and experience to achieve success in the following areas: planning, leadership and communication, collaborative and collegial relationships, fund raising and membership development, volunteer recruitment and training, and management, financial and supervisory skills.

·        Salary $ 24000 to $30000 annually, plus incentives – subject to negotiation

VP Joe Biden

Vice President Joe Biden will be back in Missouri Thursday and Friday for the first time this year.  The Vice President visited both Columbia and Jefferson City during the 2008 campaign.

Biden will land at Whitman Air Force Base and have lunch with troops there before traveling to Jefferson City to discuss the stimulus package and what it means for companies like the ABB Transformer Factory.

Gov. Jay Nixon and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke will also be  joining Biden for the event in Jefferson City.  Those holding tea bags will be asked to leave them at the door.

Biden will conclude his visit to Missouri on Friday by visiting the University of Missouri-St. Louis to discuss college affordability. We are proud to have several of our local Democrats meet and participate in this educational forum and the other events closer to our area.

“The Democrats are missing out on a large potential activitist’s base of young professionals who are not able to be involved in current Democratic activities, such as Muleskinners”, said Brandon Costerison, local Democrat.  While they would like to be there, work precludes the extended lunch hour.

“Our goal is to provide these young Democrats with the opportunity to become involved politically, socially and philanthropically with the Democratic Party”, said Costerison.

“I get it.  Believe me, I get it,” he said, in knowing the difference between bailing out Wall Street and helping Main Street.

Three major program areas that the President believes will help to boost the economy and make our nation stronger are Renewable Energy, Health Care and Education.

Missouri is already helping to create jobs in road construction and bridge rebuilding.  Work on the Osage River Bridge at Tuscumbia was literally the first stimulus project in the country. Other projects remain “shovel ready”.

Speaking of the housing crisis, Obama said:

Regulations were gutted for the sake of a quick profit at the expense of a healthy market. People bought homes they knew they couldn’t afford from banks and lenders who pushed those bad loans anyway. And all the while, critical debates and difficult decisions were put off for some other time on some other day.

Noting that it is easy to “become cynical and doubtful,” Obama said he has learned that “hope is found in unlikely places.”

Now is the time for each of us to put our energies into hoping… and helping.

Barack Obama’s visit to Columbia on October 30 for an evening rally was the highlight of the campaign for Mid-Missouri Dems! It was held on the University of Missouri campus at the Mel Carnahan Quad off of Conley Ave between Hulston Hall (Law School) and the Reynolds Alumni Center. Twenty thousand appreciative supporters–and a few undecided voters–shared the thrill of seeing the next President of the United States.
